Strong stance against abuse of municipal workers Continued from page 1 Provide services to the public. KwaDukuza Municipality is in nature, a non-sexist and non-racial institution that believes in freedom of all citizens, regardless of race gender, creed, age or social backgrounds,” stated Cllr Govender. She further warned that intimidation of municipal employees would not go unchallenged. But the deputy Mayor also had equally strong words for municipal workers who failed to abide by the principles of Batho Pele (People First). “We are joined here by various stakeholders, including organized labour, SAMWU and IMATU who have expressed solidarity with us in condemning aggressive behavior inflicted against those who are employed by Council. We have been
apprised by these organizations about some of the most serious cases that have affected our workers,” she said. The following are some of the most recent cases that have been reported by municipal officials who have allegedly been maltreated by members of the community: · Mr. Xolani Mkhize who is a meter reader in Ballito fell victim to the perpetrators of such acts. He was held at gunpoint by a local resident and in a separate incident, he was intentionally brutalized by dogs as he was executing his normal duties. • Ms Sharron Pitts who is a Senior Clerk in Salt Rock was assaulted by a resident, two weeks ago. “In our beaches and in our offices, our employees are harassed in various ways. These are some of the most serious cases that we have

heard in the past involving abuse of municipal staff. Some members of the community are making it very difficult for our employees to deliver services to the communities. This needs to change. We have observed
that most of these incidents are closely connected to human indignity, disrespect and the violation of the Constitutional Bill of Rights. “We are calling of the SAPS to take the necessary steps
against those who have abused state employees through emotional intimidation and we will in future, rally against those who appear before court for harsh judgments,” the Deputy Mayor concluded.

Reaction officers “too strong” for armed suspects

Three suspects were arrested for attempted armed robbery in the Blythedale area on Tuesday, 1 November 2016 at around 4pm. According to a G4S Spokesperson, a response officer received a call from a client who claimed that there were 4 suspicious males in the area. “The client informed the officer that a suspect was at her gate, demanding that she let him in. He was also calling out to the other 3 suspects.” “When the officer approached them, he asked them to lie face down, and called for back-up. One of the suspects jumped up and tried to restrain him, another suspect attempted to disarm him, while the third pointed a firearm at him,” he said. He added that one of the suspects was shot by the officer, and all four managed to flee. “The response officer and

back-up officers gave chase, and noticed a suspicious white bakkie carrying school children parked in the area. The officers asked the children to exit the vehicle, and discovered the suspects hiding inside. “The wounded suspect was found hiding underneath a boat trailer in a client's premises. Three of the suspects were arrested, and the fourth suspect fled with a firearm in his possession. The driver of the bakkie was also arrested,” he said. Two firearms, a cellphone, keys, allen keys, gas canisters, and a bottle of liquor were recovered. KwaDukuza SAPS Communications Officer, Johannes Khoza commended all security officials for their rapid reaction. “We appreciate our security companies for responding swiftly. We also urge residents to be vigilant, especially now that we are approaching the festive season,” said Khoza.

Motorist hijacked on N2
Guard injured in cash heist
A “sanitary” donation for Ashville Primary girls

By Xpress Reporter
A security guard sustained an injury during a cash-in-transit heist at a local supermarket on Wednesday last week. According to KwaDukuza spokesperson Warrant Officer Johannes Khoza, an unknown number of suspects confronted the security guards who were about to deposit money into an ATM. Khoza said a shot went out and one of the guards sustained a slight injury. The suspects went off with an undisclosed amount of money, he said. At the time of going to press, police were still investigating and no arrests had been made.
A man was hijacked on the N2 highway near the Zinkwazi off-ramp on Sunday, 6 November 2016 at around 6:40am. According to KwaDukuza SAPS Communications Officer, Johannes Khoza, the man was traveling in his vehicle when a white VW Polo pulled up alongside him and ordered him to pull over. “The suspects then pulled out a firearm and fired two shots. They then accosted the man and drove into a sugarcane field where he was assaulted and robbed,” said Khoza. He added that the suspects drove off in the VW Polo with the victim's cash, cellphone and credit cards. “A case of attempted murder and armed robbery has been opened.”
Congratulations
GENEROSITY: 'Frendz in Deed', a group which was founded by KwaDukuza businesswomen, distributed sanitary towels to the girls of Ashville Primary School. Sarah Bee Khan (Frendz in Deed) thanked the members of the group and the public who made the project possible. “This is an ongoing project and I am happy to say that the Stanger Women's Group will also be assisting us in this venture,” she said. Khan also places on record her thanks to Mrs Mani Bodasingh for her encouragement and help. Seen are Sarah Bee Khan and Shanitha Singh of 'Frendz in Deed' handing over the much needed sanitary towels to Ashville Primary girls. Looking on are educators, Ms J Naidu and Mr AK Diplall
DA makes political inroads The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the ILembe Constituency has analysed the 2016 local government elections. The party was happy with the outcome especially in the KwaDukuza municipal area against targets set before the elections. Frank and open discussion took place and conceding lot of work still needs to be done in rural areas while capitalising on the urban vote. As part of the reclaim project, wards 16, 13, 19, 28, 17, 6, 22 and 21 are all considered winnable wards for the
2019 and 2021 elections in KwaDukuza. The DA has won four wards while it lost Ward 16 to the ANC and won Ward 21 from the ANC. It is the second biggest party in KwaDukuza with 11 councillors plus one in Mandeni and one in Ndwedwe. In KwaDukuza the ANC holds 36 seats while the opposition combined have 21 seats which make up 37% with the ANC enjoying 63%. “It's possible to unseat the ANC in
the next local government election through a coalition of opposition parties. Coalition government is becoming a trend in South Africa. The winds of change are blowing and the people of our beautiful country deserve a better government putting the interest of the country first, creating jobs, stopping corruption and providing better services,” said the campaign manager, Cllr Madhun Sobram Sing.

Taxi operators suspend wildcat strike By Xpress Reporter
The members of the Stanger taxi owners Association (STOA) who embarked on strike action last week have agreed to suspend their strike, while negotiations with taxi body SANTACO get underway. Thousands of taxi commuters were left stranded last week Tuesday until Thursday morning, after STOA members embarked on strike action, over internal conflicts within the association. According to highly placed sources within the taxi organization, the operators decided to “park their vehicles”, following an internal dispute over the manner in which taxis were allocated routes on which to
operate. Sources said a senior official of the association, has been sidelining many taxis when it comes to the allocation of vehicles on the lucrative long distance routes. When our reporters visited the taxi rank last week, the striking taxi operators said they were not permitted to speak on record, but referred the Xpress Times to the Chairperson of iLembe Regional Taxi Federation, Mr BM Mkhwanazi, w h o s a i d negotiations were still ongoing to
resolve the matters under dispute. Meanwhile, angry commuters have lambasted the taxi operators for failing to communicate the decision ti go no strike. One commuter
charged, “Every time we approach the busy holiday season, there must be some of trouble with the local taxis. It's really frustrating that these taxi people think they are a law unto themselves”.

Simple: a few mango leaves, and a pot of water. Here's how: First take 10 to 15 tender mango leaves, then boil them in a glass of water and leave them to stay overnight. In the morning filter the water and drink it on an empty stomach. For best results

Kidney Stones To: Dr Sbukiwe Patrick Dlamini & The Staff of Skulpat Wellness and Health Centre. I am an adult African male person aged 69 years, living at Maqumbi Reserve under Maphumulo Municipality in KwaZulu Natal Province. Professionally, I am a retired School Principal who last served the government in 2013. Many thanks to the above Wellness and Health Centre for the finest work done. Instead of being in the theatre to remove kidney stones, which was diagnosed on the 17-11-2015 from a private hospital in KZN where I was admitted as a patient. It is said that there were three closely related stones and they would have to be removed. Prior to my operation, I immediately requested my assigned doctor to grant me a temporary pass-out to my house. In consultation with the above Wellness Centre after using his [Dr Sbukiwe P. Dlamini] medication the stones disappeared completely from my system. Actually the largest stone measured 5mm in size. However I felt no pain nor discomfort in using Skulpat Wellness and Health Centre's diagnostic tools with their medication. On my return to my private hospital in question, on the 26-03-20 16 it was then discovered that there were no longer any stones in my body. Evident to this, are hospital reports from Ultrasound findings. It was noted that both kidneys were normal in position, size and outline. No hydronephrosis, hydroureter, renal calculi nor focal renal mass lesions noted. All these, were in black and white on the Hospital findings. Meaning that I narrowly escaped the so called “the stones operation” as the results I was officially discharged from Hospital. Really, I have every good reason to say “Thank you Skulpat Wellness and Health Centre for once again saving my life. Wishing you, Long Live Dr Sbukiwe P. Dlamini and save many more lives out there with a smile. Thank you Wellness and Health Centre Mr Bongani Gwamanda
