“Winds of change” at beleaguered Manor Primary
CHANGE: Pictured (L to R) are the new chairperson Theven Naidoo, new treasurer Sooraj Maharaj, the new deputy chairperson Dino Moodley, and additional member Patrick Mdlaka. Absent from the picture are additional members Sicelo Ngcobo and Michelle Moodley.
Continued from Page 1 However Naidoo says, “We are anticipating that there will be an official handover, because that is the correct procedure”. The deputy chairperson Dino Moodley said one of their foremost projects would be to introduce new technologies to enhance the culture of learning. He said the school was planning to introduce what he termed a D6 School Communicator, a standalone application designed to simply school-parent communication. One of the parents who was present at the meeting, Siyabonga Wonderboy Mathenjwa, expressed confidence in the ability of the new SGB to bring about meaningful change to the school. “The elections went smoothly. We have every confidence in the new SGB members. We are certain they will take the school forward, and we look forward to the school
becoming a much better centre of learning for our children,” Mathenjwa said. Another parent who was also present, Rivaan Kennai, was happy with the overall electoral process. “Dr Mthembu (Dept of Education) was also present at the election, making sure that everything was above board. The electoral officer did consult Dr Mthembu for guidance to my knowledge the election was fair and all above board,” stated Kennai. The election of the new SGB has also been welcomed by Vishal Singh, another prominent parent at the school, who said, “Obviously it was a struggle. But our wish is for the new members to drive the school in the right direction”. The new treasurer Sooraj Maharaj assured parents that all members of the SGB were available at all times to assist with any school related queries and possible problems.
Uproar over fibre cable installation The installations of Fibre Network in Ocean View ward 16 in KwaDukuza have been met with heavy criticism from residents this is due to the disruptions
caused by the digging up of driveways and yard boundaries. KZN Fibre Company begun installations on the 1st of May and the project is set to be completed
in the next two months. On Monday 10 May 2021 Xpress Times lines were flooded with calls from irked residents stating that installations have damaged
the boundaries of their yards and driveways. One resident who asked to remain anonymous said residents were not informed prior to the beginning of the project,
however when Xpress Times reporters went to the site, Supervisor of the project Mpilo Xulu dismissed claims that residents weren't informed, “Letters were

issued through post mail boxes and also engaged with the Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality,” said Xulu. One resident said also mentioned that he's worried that the sidewalks won't be reinstated to a better condition when the project is complete. Attempts to verify the allegations made by the residents, ward councillor Jenifer Vallan was contacted unfortunately she said she was in a meeting, and at the time of going to press she had not responded to the questions posed.

New R15m testing centre for Ndwedwe By Xpress Reporter
The New Dawn is about to become a reality for the people of Ndwedwe in iLembe District. Ndwedwe Mayor Nkosinathi Chili recently announced a ground-breaking project to develop a new vehicle registration and licensing facility for the area of Ndwedwe. The project will cost a whopping R15 million! The new testing centre will be located in Ward 06, near Bhamshela taxi rank. Mayor Chili was accompanied at the sod-turning ceremony by councillors, traditional leaders and businesspeople from the area.
It will be first time for the area of Ndwedwe to have its own vehicle registration and licensing centre. Community members were elated at the news, and said the need to travel to Verulam for this service would now be eliminated. Mayor Chili said this project would create approximately 200 job opportunities for the local community, including driving instructors and examiners, administrative staff as well as the cleaners. He added that emerging local entrepreneurs would also benefit hugely from this project.

Traditional healer sentenced to three life imprisonment A traditional healer was sentenced to three life imprisonment on three counts of rape. He was sentenced on 28 April 2021 by the Ulundi Regional Court after the court heard how he took advantage of a 15-year-old girl and raped her. According to Colonel Thembeka Mbele on 12 December 2018, a 15year-old girl was taken to a traditional healer in Mahlabathini area by her parents to seek traditional healing, “The traditional healer was trusted by the parents of the victim with the hope of healing the girl but was brutally raped repeatedly by the man they
trusted. Sfiso Emmanuel Mngadi (40) started raping the repeatedly and would record everything on his cellphone,” said Mbele. “The victim's aunt went to the traditional healer last year and she caught the accused busy viewing the recording on his cellphone last year. That is when a case of rape was reported and registered at Mahlabathini SAPS. The docket was transferred to Ulundi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. The accused was placed under arrest and tried in court,” added Colonel Mbele.

Former District Speaker “goes into hiding”
072 786 2511
ROYAL FEUD: Prince Thokozani Msweli (Zulu) of the AmaZulu Royal Family.
By Xpress Reporter
The controversial Prince Thokozani Msweli (also known as Thokozani Zulu) has reportedly “gone into hiding” for his own safety, following an altercation at the AmaZulu Royal Palace in Nongoma, on Friday night. Prince Thokozani, as he is now popularly known, is the former Speaker of iLembe District Municipality and former KwaDukuza Ward 24 councillor. He is also the former regional chairperson of the ANC in the General Gizenga Mpanza Region, and a resident of
Ntshawini. Prince Thokozani sparked c o n t r o v e r s y a t KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace soon after the reading of the Will of the late Regent Queen of the AmaZulu Nation, Shiyiwe Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu. In her Will, the late Regent Queen named her firstborn son Prince Misuzulu Zulu, as the new King of AmaZulu, following the recent passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu. Prince Thokozani, in his capacity as a member of the AmaZulu Royal Family, raised his hand at the meeting,

ostensibly with the intention to question the late Regent Queen's Will. He was however harshly silenced by the traditional prime minister of the AmaZulu Nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, sparking an altercation at the royal palace, which saw Prince Misuzulu being whisked away to safety by security personnel. In an apparent reference to Prince Thokozani, Prince Mangosuthu later issued a statement which reads in part, “Not a single member of the SAPS reacted when, following the reading of the late Regent's will, someone with dubious legitimacy stood up and began creating a stir, refusing to heed instruction that he be seated. The situation very quickly became tense, and members of the Royal Protection Unit were forced to whisk the King away”. On Saturday, SABC News reported that Prince Thokozani had since “gone into hiding” for his own safety. Members of the Royal Family later confirmed this report. On Saturday evening Prince Buthelezi announced that Prince Misuzulu had already been installed into the throne as the new AmaZulu King. Buthelezi however admitted that he was aware there were still members of the Royal Family that intended to legally challenge the late Regent's Will and the subsequent crowning of the new King, Misuzulu KaZwelithini. Meanwhile, the community of KwaDukuza has reacted with shock to the news of a high profile local resident and political leader suddenly grabbing national headlines in this unfolding royal drama.

According to evidence led in court, Mthembu and Sithole were in a relationship and at some point, he suspected her of having another affair. On the day of the incident, he drove to her house and they argued for some time. Later that evening, he strangled her and wrapped her body in a comforter. He put her body into her car and drove to a sugarcane field where he dumped it. The body was discovered three weeks later. Natasha Kara, the regional spokesperson for the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in KZN said that after Sithole's disappearance, a missing person's case was opened and everyone who had interacted with her prior to her disappearance had to make statements to the police. She said police became suspicious of Mthembu and subsequently arrested him after he contradicted himself in his statement. The State Advocate, Dan Magwaza led the evidence of Mthembu's friend who testified that Mthembu had confessed to him that he had killed Sithole and also he had asked him for assistance to dispose of the body.

Ninety-six South African men and women representing eight Districts will compete for the prestigious Men's and Women's titles and the historic Presidents Cup at the O'Neill Ballito 55th South African Surfing Championships. The annual competition is the longest running surfing tournament in South Africa and Africa, and one of the longest running National Championships in the world. First held in 1965 at Kommetjie in Cape Town, the contest attracted a handful of surfers from Durban, Cape Town and Port
Elizabeth. It was won by Natal, with the iconic Durban surfer George Thompson clinching the first of his four National titles. As surfing in South Africa grew, more surfers and teams participated in the SA Championships, hosted by different venues each year. The event included an Open division for Men and Women, as well as a Junior and Masters Division. Up until 2001, the KZN team dominated the SA Championship, winning the Presidents Cup 30 times with Western Province winning it on six occasions. This year's event will feature eight District teams, six men and four women, featuring a total of 96 competitors. These surfers would have competed in a series of trials within their Districts in order to be selected to represent their District at the national level. The Western Cape Districts are Cape Town Surfriders,

Nelson Mandela Bay Surfriders and Buffalo City Surfriders will represent the Eastern Cape and the KZN Province will feature host district Ilembe Surfriders as well as eThekweni Surfriders and Ugu Surfriders. “Surfing South Africa is stoked to be associated with the Ballito Pro in the form of our annual South African Surfing Championships. The 55th edition of this iconic event is particularly important as it determines the South African M e n a n d W o m en ' s Champions and decides which District will take home the coveted Presidents Cup. Surfing South Africa is proud that despite the tough year the World and South Africa has endured, we are able to celebrate our 55th National Championship in Ballito for the first time. We are grateful to the KwaDukuza Municipality for putting their faith in us and we are confident that the athletes who have been competing in selection trials in order to be included in their District teams will embrace the opportunity to sample Ballito's famous surf.” Robin de Kock General Manager, Surfing South Africa. The surfing competitions will be supported by a tailor-made festival programme within the Ballito and KwaDukuza region presenting the region's best experiences and entertainment programme featuring music, arts, recreational activities and hospitality within the beautiful natural environment of the North Coast.
Ramaphosa: A robust media is more critical than ever
ROBUST: President Cyril Ramaphosa says the media has a responsibility to support democracy.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on all South Africans to safeguard media freedom. This comes on the back of South Africa joining the rest of the world in celebrating World Press Freedom Day, which is commemorated annually on the 3rd of May. Ramaphosa warned that the growing trend of using social media to intimidate journalists, in particular female journalists, cannot be tolerated. However the president noted that South Africa was lucky to have a robust media that was able to report without fear of favour, about those in power. “The South African media has played a pivotal role in uncovering much of what we know today about the true
extent of capture of the state by self-serving, corrupt individuals and entities. They sustained their reporting even in the face of intimidation, disinformation and attacks on their person. “If the media is to remain true to its responsibility to support democracy, our journalists must continue to report without fear or favour on issues of the day. Their sustained coverage must include gender-based violence, crime in our communities, and social ills like substance abuse. Our media should provide accurate and impartial information, enabling the public to make informed decisions, to access opportunities and to improve their lives,” Ramaphosa stated.
He further warned that journalists themselves had a responsibility to safeguard the sanctity of their profession. He urged journalists to never allow themselves or their platforms to be used to settle political scores. “When media disseminate stories that are inaccurate or that they know to be false, the public loses faith in them. It is in the best interests of all who love this country and wish for it to succeed that our media is supported, and not hindered in its work. “As society, let us continue to work together to jealously safeguard our country's media freedom. It was hard won, and without it, we cannot hope to flourish,” he said.

Wishing the Muslim community...
'Those who are not content with a little will not be content with a lot?
Eid-Ul-Fitr; a Unique Festival Time of Joy for Muslims Muslims throughout the country will celebrate the auspicious & joyous occasion of EID-UL-FITR, either on Thursday (13/05/2021) or Friday (14/05/2021), upon sighting of the moon, which culminates the end of the Holy month of Ramadaan. Eid -ul Fitr is a unique festival. It has no connection with any historical event nor is it related to the changes of seasons or cycles of agriculture. It is not a festival related in any way to worldly affairs. Its significance is purely spiritual. It is the day when the Muslims thank GOD ALMIGHTY for having given them the will, the strength and the endurance to observe fast and obey His commandment during the holy month of Ramadhan. This day, in Muslim world, brings rejoicing and happiness. The rejoicing is not, however, at the departure of the month of Ramadhan; it is the happiness which man feels after successfully completing an important task. So far as the passing away of the month of Ramadhan is concerned, Muslim religious leaders of the early days of Islam always felt profound sorrow when it came to an end, as they felt that they were being deprived of the spiritual blessings which were associated with the month of fasting. Eid-ul -Fitr is related to such a month of blessings, because it is on this day that the strict restrictions of the preceding month are lifted. Unfortunately, in some places, this resumption of the normal activities is misinterpreted as a licence to indulge in activities prohibited in Islam, like gambling, etc. Fortunately, such trends are not common yet; but such people should be made to understand the significance of Eid -ul-Fitr. Religious observances of the Eid-ul-Fitr are designed to

offer thanks to GOD ALMIGHTY that He helped us in accomplishing the aim of Ramadhan. Surely, it would be an affront to GOD ALMIGHTY if anybody, after thanking Him for completing that spiritual training, goes right away sinning against Him! Had such person known the meaning and purpose of Eid-ul -Fitr, he could not have indulged in such un-Islamic activities. Eid-ulFitr can be interpreted as a three-fold blessing: First it provides one more occasion for the Muslims to thank God ALMIGHTY and remember His blessings. Secondly, it affords an opportunity of spiritual stock-taking, after the month of Ramadhan. A Muslim can now ponder over the strength (or weakness) of his will power; he can see, in the mirror of Ramadhan, what were the strong (or

weak) points of his character, because under the stress of fasting, the hidden qualities (or evils) of human character come to surface in such clear way which is, perhaps, not possible otherwise. Thus a man gets a chance of self-diagnosis of the traits of his character, which probably no one else may ever detect. Thirdly, it enjoins the well-to -do persons to share a portion of what they have with their poor brethren. On the eve of Eid-ulFitr, a Muslim is obliged to give to the needy food-stuff at the rate of a prescribed weight, on behalf of himself and of every member of his family, including servants and guests who were sheltered under his roof on that night. It would certainly be pleasing to God ALMIGHTY if we did not forget these lessons after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Incidentally, here the difference between religious and materialistic outlooks becomes sharper. Religion exhorts a man to give, by his own free will, a share of his wealth to those who are less fortunate, and to give it for obtaining the blessings of God ALMIGHTY. Materialism teaches him to snatch from others whatever they have got without any regard to the moral or ethical questions involved. Thus, the religion tries to strengthen the highest qualities of the human character; materialism strives to make him the slave of the lowest animal instincts degrading him to the level of the beasts. On this day, special prayers are held the world over, between sunrise and noon, when the Muslims assemble, in large congregations, wearing their best dresses standing shoulder to shoulder, demonstrating for everyone the universal brotherhood which is another distinguishing feature of Islam --- the religion of God ALMIGHTY. Let us re-dedicate our life to the cause of humanity, which is the best way to demonstrate our love of God ALMIGHTY. Let us resolve that our energies, in the coming year, will be directed towards strengthening a society based on mutual respect, brotherly love, and universal understanding. Let us decide that, in the coming year, we will build a social order which would bring not only the material benefits, but also the spiritual satisfaction. We pray that Almighty God guide us to recognise Truth for what it is and give us the strength to follow it, and we pray that He guide us to recognise falsehood for what it is and give us the determination to keep away from it while we rejoice, we remind ourselves that there can be no occasion, no moment so joyous, that we forget our peoples' great sacrifices around the world especially those of our orphans and victims of wars in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Kashmir, Afghanistan and Rohingya and the innocent prisoners suffering torture and humiliation in worldwide detention camps. We also ask God Almighty to rid our country and the world over of this so called Coronavirus that we are plagued with. The Xpress Times would like to wish all Muslims Eid Mubarak.

PADAYACHEE BROS. Importance of Zakat in Islam Zakat is a beautiful concept that is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam. In terms of meaning, the word Zakat is taken as “purification” and “growth”. However if one wants to look at the actual definition of Zakat in light of Islamic teachings then it is defined as an obligatory act for every wealthy Muslim in which he or she has to give a calculated amount of his/her wealth to needy people that have been described by the teachings of Holy Quran and hadith. The amount that has to be given has also been told and those who are the worthy receivers of Zakat have been pointed out too. Zakat is regarded as a means of purifying one`s belongings or wealth. According to the teachings of Holy Quran, giving of Zakat is very important, and those who don't follow the commands of GOD Almighty related to Zakat will have to face serious consequences. The importance of Zakat can be judged by the fact that in Holy Quran at numerous locations it is mentioned that “…and establish regular Salah and GIVE regular Zakat…” Zakat in Islam At 70 places in the Quran, GOD Almighty commands that Salah and Zakat co-exist. Both Salah and Zakat are different forms of worships in Islam. The former has to be done physically while the latter has to be performed financially. Those Muslims who are alert towards this duty have been promised great outcomes, but those who show negligence towards it will have to suffer heavy losses. In the case of Zakat, clear instructions have been provided about the people upon whom the observance of this duty has been made compulsory. Below mentioned are the qualities, which if present in a Muslim, make him eligible to give Zakat. The Muslim man or woman has to be adult, fully conscious and in his senses. He should be free, not a slave. He or she has to own a specified amount of wealth that has been described by the Holy Prophet PBUH. A thing that needs to be
082 495 4673
mentioned is that Zakat is not considered for items that are required for personal needs like clothes, furniture etc.
Ostrinex Neil Singh (ex-Neil Signs)
At the end of every year Zakat has to be given means the person should be possessing that specified amount or property equal to it for at least a year. If a person has Gold 87.48 Gram or Silver 612.36 Gram, then it becomes compulsory for him to pay Zakat. The next important thing is that to what kind of people Zakat should be given. This has also been explained in detail by GOD Almighty. In the Holy Quran it is mentioned that: “Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer (the funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to truth); for those in bondage and in debt; and for the wayfarer: (Thus is it) ordained by GOD ALMIGHTY, and GOD ALMIGHTY is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.” The importance of Zakat in Islam can never be underestimated, so it is best that every wealthy Muslim should fulfill this duty.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa and India have submitted a joint proposal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the waiver of intellectual property related to the development of Covid19 vaccines. This effort, according to Ramaphosa, in premised on the need to facilitate wider access to affordable and effective vaccines. Writing in his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa said the two countries (SA and India) were arguing for the waiver of certain aspects of the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). He said the idea was to scale up local production of the life-saving Covid-19 vaccines. The two nation's effort had gained support of more than 100 countries. He said the United States was the latest super-power to express support for the proposal. He said this would add momentum to the ongoing negotiations. “The enforcement of intellectual property rights is critical to research and development and innovation in the quest for human progress. But our position as South Africa is that such a waiver is necessary at this time. It is temporary and is in direct response to

TTM beat Chippa United to lift first-ever trophy in Nedbank Cup final
Man City's title party delayed by Man United
Augustine Kwem of Chippa United challenged by Lehlohonolo Nonyane of Tshakhuma
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) lifted their first-ever trophy in their maiden campaign after defeating Chippa United in a narrow 1-0 win in the Nedbank Cup final at the Free State Stadium on Saturday. Midfielder Ndabayithethwa scored
the decisive goal of the game as TTM defied the odds and their overwhelming league form to bag the R7 million in prize-money. TTM took the lead somewhat against the run of play in the 27th minute thanks to a deflected longrange effort by Ndlondlo. Both teams failed to trouble goal for the remainder of the first period as Ndlondlo's strike proved the difference at the break. Chippa looked to hit back in the second-half and went in search of an equaliser as they increasingly threw bodies forward. Despite their best efforts, the Chippa United onslaught was kept at bay by the TTM defence.
