their prices accordingly to the dismay of citizenry. A petrol price decrease of 8 cents on Friday, 31 May 2013 would not do much to augur a decrease by business and industry and bring joy to the populace. The situation is now at a level were the ordinary person has tightened their belt without breathing room and fuel prices burning a hole through their pockets simultaneously. The Department of Energy's latest projection is based on international oil prices against the rand exchange rate documented from the end of June 2013 to 2 July 2013 which translates to a 61 cents price increase on 7 August 2013. The South African Fuel Retailers Association (Safra) assures motorists that fuel retailers will not be profiting from the price increase enacted last week Wednesday and in August 2013. According to the Automobile Association (AA) of South Africa the

following are great fuel saving tips: Check your tyre pressure; service your car regularly; reduce drag: remove external fixings such as bike racks and / rails; use high quality fuels: reduces consumption of fuel; turn off your Air-conditioning; lighten your load: carrying unnecessary weight means engine works harder and that means higher fuel consumption; avoid stop / start driving: simply lifting off the accelerator earlier and gently slowing down will improve fuel economy; avoid excessive idling; ease off the accelerator: by changing the gear at: 2500 rpm for petrol vehicles and 2000 rpm for diesel fuel consumption is optimised; avoid short journeys and change down a gear: when driving on a steep hill, do not labour the engine at low engine speeds. ransportation in the form of minibus taxis and general motor vehicles are crucial to the way of life to citizens and businesses within the KwaDukuza region. However the latest petrol price hike could be too much to take. According to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) if the petroleum price continues to increase then transportation costs will soar. The CSIR also says that “South Africa is very vulnerable to transport costs.” The price increase, last week, of 84 cents brings the cost of a litre of 'unleaded 95' to a record R13, 23 inland, according to the Automobile Association (AA). A litre of diesel costs around R12, 20. Local motorists will be paying R12, 86 for a litre of 'unleaded 95' petrol and around R11, 90 a litre for diesel. The knock on effect will be felt most by the man on the street, consumers, retailers and the transportation industry. The African National Congress (ANC) Branch Electoral Team (BET) from the Chris Hani branch embarked on yet another door to door campaign in the Quba area on Saturday, 06 June 2013. The team consisting of the BEC members and volunteers went from house to house telling people about

Many issues were raised by the community members and the teams were recording everything that was said. Looking at some of the issues, the BET has decided that they will be

Two policemen, in the space of four months, have been charged for raping two 13-year-old girls in separate incidents according to the South African Press Association (SAPA). The first incident happened in Mamelodi, north of Pretoria, were a 48-year-old warrant officer (out on bail for two other child rape cases at the time of his arrest) faced a charge of rape that occurred in April. The officer was out on bail on two child rape cases in KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, and in Mamelodi East. The girls in the two cases were aged eight and 12-yearsold. According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), the teenager's guardian asked the community police forum (CPF) to talk to the girl when she refused to do chores. 'People are sound asleep when intruders strike because their lights are off at night and this is not a good idea' advises Mathura. • Half of the crime committed is due to negligence of citizens not heeding police warnings. Mathura said the SAPS will take a hard line. “We will not tolerate this and we will name and shame those who indulge in the dead of night.” The KwaDukuza SAPS will be monitoring dark areas very closely. The SAPS strongly urges house and vehicle owners to leave their lights on at night as this will be a deterrent and go a long way in assisting the police in the unlikely event of a crime taking place. Townships pose a challenge as Colonel Mathura points out that improper road and bushes make it difficult to navigate and locate. Here again citizens need to make sure that house numbers are clearly visible. Constable Sbusiso Khumalo strongly urges citizens to come to the police station for assistance with community watch forums. Khumalo also issued a warning to motorists to be aware of robbers throwing acid on a would be victim's face. With regards to CCTV Cameras and the footage of robber's faces being admissible in Court, Khumalo advised businesses to place their cameras strategically.

On being refused entry, he pulled out a tomahawk and began hacking at the fencing causing a large enough gap for him to enter. Gazu called for back-up and Benni Mpama Buyile (32) of Mega Force Security was charged with damage to property and trespassing. He is due back a court on 28 August. Whom to trust Murugas Pillay of Indian Village is in a dilemma. He alleges that he was given R250 by a friend to purchase cigarettes. On his way he met another friend and an argument broke out between the two. He alleges that the friend slapped him and in the fracas he lost some of the cash. He returned to his friend and explained that he was attacked and some of the cash was lost. He returned R180 to him and was brutally assaulted by his friend. Indran “Clinton” Sivalingum (27), a manager at a large retail outlet is due back at court on 28 August. End of the road A crime spree by an errant 19year-old youth has come to an abrupt end. Thandiwe Nduli alleges that she was accosted by the youth at Ntshawini who grabbed her cellphone and fled. She managed to obtain his identity. A week later Hlengiwe Sikhakane alleges she was held up by the youth who threatened her with a scissors and fled with her bag containing earphones, cash and her identity book. Last Tuesday, Nkosi Ntuli alleges that the youth threatened him with a knife and fled with his cellphone. This time the community managed to apprehend Mthokosisi Ndlovu (19) and handed him over to the police. His first two victims identified him as their attacker. Perseverance and dedication has its rewards!

Local resident, Thivendri Naidoo has achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a qualified educator after years of hard work and determination. Naidoo worked at Hesto Harnesses as a Process Coordinator while studying part-time through the University of South Africa (UNISA). She recently graduated Cum Laude in her Bachelor of Education. “I love kids and I have always been determined to become a teacher. I believe that success depends on the extent of the determination within you,” she said. She added that she owes her success to her family, friends and her previous management at Hesto Harnesses.

DEDICATION: Thivendri Naidoo (third from right) believes that hard work, dedication and determination are the keys to success

Sun Centre to equip citizens with counseling skills The Sun Centre is a voluntary organization assisting recovering alcoholics and drug addicts and their families. It has been absent in the campaigns against drug abuse for some time. That is about to change when the AFM Central Tabernacle Church in Stanger Heights lends its support to the fight against drug abuse. The church has its own counseling programme and it has earmarked work among suffering addicts as one of its premier social

interventions. A large number of the Sun Centre members belong to the church. The Sun Centre and the church will be running a counseling service from the church on weekdays between 9am and 12 noon. In its planned extension, the church is to house a fully equipped rehabilitation clinic with beds for 12 patients. This should be completed in 2014. The Sun Centre will run the Clinic. “Embracing the SMA Health and Wellness Day” Thank you for your much-valued sentiments embracing the SMA Health & Wellness Day. It was a momentous & successful day, just and rich reward for the assembly of devoted men, women, and children imbued with the spirit of care, giving, and service to the community. It was a revelation to observe the many young schoolgirl and schoolboy volunteers cheerfully going about their various tasks with such vigour and dedication. A heady scene, indeed! As for armchair critics - derriere critics!! Should one really care? But there must be various kinds of negative critics - based on the degree of virulence!

Khumalo wafanisa lomkhuleko nokwakwenzeka ngesikhathi iqembu le-ANC libunjwa ngonyaka u-1912. Lapho athi khonanangalelolanga kwakuhlangenwe endlini yesonto. Wachaza uMnu Mandela njengeshoshozela loshintsho. Wathi ungumuntu onesiphiwo sokucabangela kakhulu abanye abantu ukudlula yena uqobo. Wanxusa abantu ukuthi nabo kuyomele bazijwayeze lokhu. USodolobha waKwaDukuza uKhansela Ricardo Mthembu wathi kuyajabulisa kakhulu ukuba nomholi onjengoMadiba. Umholi bonke abantu abaye bafise ukuthi kuthiwe ngowabo. Watshela umphakathi ukuthi kwakungewona owokugcina lomcimbi kodwa isekhona eminye ezolandela nefuze lona. Washo ukuthi zikhona ezinye izinhlelo abanazo ezizokwenziwa emawadini ahlukahlukene ezibandakanya ukuzibophezela ngemizuzu noma ngamahora ambalwa ukwenza ushintsho emphakathini. Umkhuleko waphetha ngentshumayelo kaMfu Vusi Dube webandla i-Ethekwini Community Church nobuye abe yilunga lesiShayamthetho KwaZulu-Natal, owashukumisa izehambeli ngentshumayelo yakhe eyayidle ngamancoko neyayibhekiswe kakhulu entsheni.

Shop 11, George’s Centre (opposite Stanger Manor Secondary)

Cell : 083 543 5450

Charissa Thumbasamy officially launched her Coffee Shop last Tuesday at Shop 11, George's Centre in Stanger Manor. She unveiled the name of the Coffee Shop as Daniel Rose at the launch in honour of her parents and also to show gratitude to both her parents. Her parents, whose names are Abel Daniel Thumbasamy and Ruby (Rose) Thumbasamy, were surprised, quite emotional and taken aback by Charissa's choice of names. The guests at the launch were kept entertained by Fine Tunes from Durban.

Congratulations! Wishing Charissa all the success in her business venture.

Straight TALK ISMAIL ASMAL Cell: 0832558337 Email: iasmal687@gmail.com

A promise you make is a promise you should keep! This week's talking point is one of deep anguish and is certain to prod the memory of all those who are afflicted by what's written. A few decades ago a dear friend was in an embarrassing spot of self-inflicted financial distress. The pressure was too much to endure and he just had to confide in a senior family member, who noted all the details of his predicament and promised to ease his financial burden. Alas! It was not to be! This man, who came in the guise of a good Samaritan, caused more embarrassment and anxiety for my friend. He told all other family members of his circumstances and the rest is left to your imagination. He broke his assurance and in the process compromised my friend's dignity! I'm sure many readers have had similar encounters. We have all heard candidates

canvassing for elections, who have promised to move heaven and earth for voters, if voted into office. They also promised to return after four years to solicit your vote again. A similar incident faced a much admired man in our town, who, in his youth, used to be seen running and exercising around Stanger, meeting and greeting people with a broad smile and handshake. This heroic man put his life on the line and took a bullet which left him with a marked limp and the inability to engage in physical exercise. This was done to save the life of the wife of a wealthy man, who told him that he would 'sort out any medical expenses that would incur.' After a few months our fearless hero is still waiting for that pledge to materialize. Worse still, is that he is now saddled with huge medical

Egypt seeks end to crisis with quick elections (Reuters) - The streets of Cairo were quiet on Tuesday morning but Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood movement called for more protests later in the day, raising the risk of further violence. Under pressure to deliver a rapid timetable to restore democracy, Adli Mansour, the judge named head of state by the army when it brought down Mursi last week, decreed overnight that a parliamentary vote would be held in about six months. That would be followed by a presidential election.

bills and legal fees, for which he was forced to take a loan and pay off the huge debt. Many people have also been victims of family who tell young people, 'Don't worry my boy/girl, your dad is dead but we are here, we'll care for you if y o u h a v e a n y problems...yak, yak, yakkity yak!' as they ruffle your hair and embrace you. Dear readers if people tell you, 'Don't worry', you should start stressing and gnawing your nails, because all that is a pack of lies!!' My message is that if you make a promise to anyone, whether in a moment of intense emotion or whether you really meant it, keep to your word and see out your pledge. Don't raise your hand to donate to a worthy cause in a moment of euphoria because when it comes to the delivery hour you will have deep regrets and renege on your promise. To you dear sir who made this promise to pay the hero that saved your children's mum; after you read this column, do the right thing. Perhaps you are unhappy that he saved your wife and you had to postpone your plans. All said and done, we should try to follow the motto of the famous Dion store, 'A promise we make is a promise we keep.’

Venezuela's Maduro offers Snowden a home ( A l J a z e e r a ) Ve n e z u e l a n President Nicolas Maduro said his government has received an asylum application from US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden and the fugitive must now decide if he wants to fly to Caracas. “We have received the asylum request letter," Maduro said on Monday from the presidential palace. "He will have to decide when he flies, if he finally wants to fly here.” Over the weekend, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia all offered political asylum to Snowden, who has spent more than two weeks stranded at Moscow's international airport while waiting for a country to give him sanctuary.

Canadian oil train disaster almost wipes out town (ABC) - At least 13 people have been confirmed dead and 50 people missing in the devastating oil train accident that happened in Quebec, Canada, on Saturday, 6 July 2013. The town of Lac-Megantic, east of Montreal, was consumed by fire when a cargo train parked uphill from the town broke free, barrelled towards it and derailed. The 73car train carried up to 1 million gallons of crude oil that ignited when the train derailed, causing a fireball that engulfed the town. Investigators said they are still working to locate the missing people. The bodies that have been found were burned to “just bones,” said police.

A man walks into a bar and sits down next to a man with a dog at his feet. "Does your dog bite?" "No." A few minutes later the dog takes a huge chunk out of his leg. "I thought you said your dog didn't bite!" the man says resentfully. "Well, that's not my dog.” From his death bed, the husband called his wife and said, “One month after I die, I want you to marry Samy.” “Samy! But he is your enemy!” “Yes, I know that. I've suffered all these years; so let him suffer now.”

Maama Salmah With Magic Ring & Muzigo Oil He Showed Me My Enemies

A few days back, Naicker testified about the wonderful Maama Salmah not to just sit but also tell the whole world about her. I was referred to her by a friend called Andria who booked an appointment. He charged me R100 to read my fortune. He told me my names and showed me almost everything going on in my life LIVE IN THE MIRROR. I was showed that my business had fallen and my wife had left for another man in German for 12 years. Maama Salmah cast a spell for me & later made arrangements & she came back. We are so happy together now and my business grew after I was helped by Maama Salmah. She is accurate, down to earth & a honest person to deal with. I had tried many but none could help and I must say Maama Salmah the grace of God. Maama Salmah who assisted my husband after 18 years, whose penis wasn’t working with a small size, poor erection, one minute ejaculations and not strong. She discovered a lot of witchcraft and cleansed him in 30 minutes and with in 2 hours the penis was perfectly enlarged and up to now there is no change it is permanent. I Sandile from Matatiele now based in phoenix recommended Maama Salmah as nice, safe and saves money with time. “ I still believe Maama Salmah is the only one who assisted my wife Lorah to decrease her breasts and increase her hips and bums in the last 4 years ” Kingsley S. From Musgrave

Dr Sheik

With Powerful Duwa’s And Magic Sticks

It was in 2012 when my life was not good, all my children were always getting sick day after day. Demons were making noises in my house and my bosses were not happy with me and yet I was working very hard. I was forced to go for help although I did not believe in healers. Sheik Feeyaaz wrote me some arabic words on the paper and also gave me a stick and said “call me when you’re fine” I used them as he said but just after two days my bosses just promoted me and increased my salary and as I am talking now my children are fine and all the demons ran away from m house. There is nothing I can tell all of you apart from rushing for help from Sheik Feyaaz. Runesh, Newtown, Stanger. There used to be rumours from people saying that no one can win lotto and casino by the help of the magic stick. One Sunday I was not busy at all then decided to go and prove to myself. I called Sheik Feyaaz and he told me to go and see him on the spot because he was not occupied. He gave me the Magic Stick and said that I must play when it is in my pocket. I won some R25000 for the first time, and then I asked him I can play lotto also. He told me go back and said that I must write down 21 numbers sets from my heart, he consulted his spirits and came up with the final numbers. I played lotto and I magically won R3.4 million and now I am a big business man with a very beautiful life. Long live Sheik Feeyaaz the man who brightened my future. Abdul - Noor, Stanger Heights. Sheik Feeyaaz works Monday to Sunday at his own house. Do not call your problem a heavy one because Sheik Feeyaaz’s spirits see it as a walk over

Julian Wilson Crowned Mr Price Pro Ballito Champion

Australian Julian Wilson, 24, (Coolum Beach, QLD) has won the ASP Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito, defeating Jordy Smith, 25, ( C a p e To w n , Z A F ) i n a memorable Final at Willard's Beach on Saturday July 6, 2013. Stop No. 3 of 8 on the ASP Prime Series culminated with the most anticipated match-up of this year's competition - event standouts, Smith and Wilson, living up to expectation with inspired performances in front of a capacity crowd. “I'm really happy to get the win!” Wilson said of his 18.93 to 16.70 victory over Smith. “It's my third time in Durban and I've gotten a good result each time. I really enjoy spending time here, it's a great place with friendly people where I feel warm and comfortable. It definitely helps with my results.” While Smith assumed an early l e a d t o p u t Wi l s o n i n a combination situation (needing a combination of two scores) with his 7.67 and 8.83 (out of ten) scores, it was Wilson's high-risk approach that was rewarded. Knowing he needed something extra-ordinary to take the win, Wilson put everything on the line, completing an extremely critical Alley Oop aerial maneuver to score the first perfect 10 of this year's competition.

Following up with a 8.93 slob grab reverse aerial maneuver, Wilson cemented his win over the local favourite and was chaired up the beach as the deserved 2013 Mr Price Pro Ballito Champion. “Jordy put the pressure on me at the start but there were plenty of opportunities and I just had to flip the heat and put some scores on the board,” Wilson said. “That was the first time I've landed that air in a contest and I had to do something because I had my back against the wall. I'm stoked I could pull it off and come away with the win.” Wilson is the second Australian to win the event since Chris Davidson (AUS) in 2008 and has pocketed R407 500 (US$40 000), rocketing to World No. 1 on the ASP World Rankings. Smith had a dream run through to the final with flawless performances and perfect scores as he defeated Aritz Aranburu (EUK) in the Quarterfinals and Stu Kennedy (AUS) in the semi finals. Unfortunately for Smith it was not the dream finish he'd hoped for, nonetheless pocketing R207 500 (US$20 000) and assuming the World No. 2 position. “It was an honour to surf in the final against Julian, I'm just sorry I didn't win it,” Smith said. “Julian stuck that air and it was amazing. Crews advanced from World No. 39 to World No. 27. “I'm really happy to get all the way to the Semis and to surf against Julian,” Crews said. “Jordy and Julian have been standouts all event and there's not much you can do when they've got you. This is a big result for me and I hope to continue my run and get a bunch more results to make the tour next year.” Kennedy suffered a case of nerves against Smith in their semi final match up. Feeling the pressure against the local favourite, Kennedy went for big

turns but was uncharacteristically not able to stick them. The Australian was defeated in a combination situation. Kennedy rockets from World No. 53 to 31 and will be looking to climb the ladder in the hope of qualifying for the WCT in 2014. The Mr Price Pro Ballito enjoyed six days of action packed world-class surfing as Willard's Beach delivered great waves and capacity crowds. The action continued with the Free Music Concerts on the Beach at Salt Rock and more exciting Festival activities at the Mr Price Pro Ballito Beach Festival on Sunday.
