Fifteen people have died following a collision between a minibus taxi and car on Saturday evening on the N2 at Canelands, KwaZulu-Natal. A Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Quantum collided head-on. KZN emergency medical services said that both vehicles caught fire after the accident. According to Arrive Alive, the exact number needs to be confirmed by a forensic investigation. Four survivors were transported to nearby hospitals by paramedics. A team of investigators and

forensic experts has been assembled to establish the cause of the accident, according to KwaZulu-Natal transport, community safety, and liaison MEC Mxolisi Kaunda. Visiting the scene of the accident on Sunday, Kaunda said he had instructed law enforcement officers to clamp down on reckless drivers. “Yesterday (Saturday), we launched an integrated safety plan which focuses on high law enforcement visibility in all hazardous spots in the province. We are going to clamp down on drinking and driving, speeding, unroadworthy vehicles, and

unlicensed drivers,” Kaunda said. Kaunda visited the survivors of the N2 crash and sent his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He called on citizens of KwaZulu-Natal, particularly road users, to work closely with government to reduce road accidents. “We will win the battle against fatal crashes if we work together and speak in one voice that road crashes should not be part of our lives. Let us all join hands and ensure that each one of us abides by the rules of the road,” said Kaunda.

Noble Leaders Foundation in collaboration with the iLembe District Municipality hosted a highly successful Councillors Appreciation Event at eBandla Hotel on Wednesday, 05 December. This inaugural

event was the initiative of Mr. Emmanuel Ngcobo, founder of Noble Leaders Foundation with the intention of not only appreciating the selfless sacrifices made by councillors within our district but was also intended to inspire the making of noble leaders of this lifetime.

Ngcobo cited that councillors are pillars of our communities. “Despite the many challenges councillors face, as an organisation we felt that it was befitting to recognise the work done and appreciate the efforts undertaken by our councillors in building and transforming our communities”, said Mr Ngcobo. The Councillors Appreciation event ironically was held a week after the iLembe District Municipality was awarded the Best Performing District Municipality in the Province. ILembe District Mayor, His Worship the Honourable Cllr Siduduzo Gumede addressed all in attendance and re-iterated to councillors that such an achievement is possible only by the dedication, commitment and hard work of both municipal officials and councillors working within communities. “As councillors we need to first and foremost understand that we are on borrowed time. Our communities borrow us limited time for us to be their representatives in council and to serve as a bridge between them and council. This

therefore means we are servants of our communities and not their masters,” said Gumede. Noble Leaders Foundation acknowledged the great leadership demonstrated by Honourable Cllr Gumede and his contribution in uplifting the people of the district. The event saw councillors from all four local municipalities honoured for being noble public leaders with awards being given to some of the oldest and youngest members. Councillors were encouraged to undertake their magnanimous roles entrusted to them by the people with excellence and efficiency, delivering service to the people in ways that will bring radical change and upliftment. According to Noble Leaders the event which will become an annual event has become a milestone in the positive journey of changing lives within communities and a catalyst for inspiring leaders to rise up once again from within our district to have a global impact such as the likes of our very own Inkosi Albert Luthuli.

This year has definitely been a great one with a preparation total of 326500 meals, 108000 came alone from our four big feeds which we had for the year,

where we prepared and distributed 108 pots and served 27000 meals, 218500 were from our weekly cooking's where we prepared and distributed 4000 plates a week. This has been a great achievement and although this may seem like a daunting task, with the help of our dedicated volunteers and sponsors we were able to reach our goal of providing nutritious meals to

thousands of underprivileged children in our community. Your donation does more than feed hungry tummies, your support changes lives. Your generosity fuels bodies and minds. Nation Builders partnered with the Ballito Clinic on 30 November 2018 in reaching out to the community by hosting talks in lieu of World AIDS Day and the 16 Days of Activism for abuse against Women and Children. Dr Nivasha Naidoo, a volunteer at Nation Builders delivered an informative talk about managing HIV through a

healthy lifestyle and chronic medication. She advised all patients at the clinic to take preventative measures in an effort to avoid the spread of H I V. D r Naidoo encouraged those present to offer assistance to those living with HIV and AIDS in an effort to remove the stigma associated with the condition. Loshini Mohanlal,

Community Project Manager at Nation Builders delivered an inspirational talk on 'Breaking the Silence on domestic violence against Women and Children'. She provided practical steps for women and children to implement in an effort to get assistance and protection from perpetrators. Nation Builders, a non-

Child molester A 26 year old man is in custody following the sexual abuse of a 6 year old. According to the aunt of the victim she was approached by a group of children who informed her that the child was bleeding. The aunt checked and questioned the child who was too afraid to say anything. The child eventually confessed that she had been sexually abused by the neighbour who promised her chips to keep quiet about the incident. Police were informed and the child was taken for treatment. The culprit will seek bail this week. Careless leads to careless A woman who took her vehicle to a Ballito carwash was surprised when she received a call from the manager enquiring about her KIA R10. She was informed that a person claiming he had been sent by her had in fact stolen her vehicle. Video footage gave police vital clues and they began to question persons of interest. His friend gave police incriminating evidence and this led to the arrest of Thabane Majola (28) of Klaarmatr. The culprit will seek bail this week. Very violent A 28 year old Groutville

woman who was on her way to court for a restraining order against her boyfriend was almost killed by the violent man. She alleges he accosted her and her sister at a local petrol station and assaulted her. Her brother was contacted and the assailant left. The boyfriend again attacked her with a knife. An understanding security guard locked her and her siblings inside the store. Thembinkosi Ndlovu (39) is due back at court on the 29 January 2019. Traveling criminals Lindelani Mthiyane of Kranskloof alleges that he and two friends were approached by two youths who threatened them with a firearm and demanded cash. On finding no cash they assaulted Joseph Mngomezulu and Luzako Boni and threw food from the stove over them. Both youths were doused with paraffin and Mngomezulu was set alight and had the flames put out a short while later. Both culprits fled and a few days later the victims spotted them. Aided by the community Njabulo Hadebe (37) and Mduduzi Mthembu (28) were overpowered and handed over to police. They faced charges of attempted murder, robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Both will seek bail this week.

There is nothing more exciting and intriguing than the longest format in the "gentleman's" game. Gone are the days when 5 days of boring cricket ended in the inevitable draw.
