Two drown near Zimbali

Mandeni inventor “flying high”

By Xpress Reporter

Two people have drowned and two others were injured on the beach near Zimbali north gate. According to Chris Botha of Netcare, paramedics received a call regarding a drowning incident. “Reports from members of the public indicate that the

mother and two daughters got into difficulty and dad went in to assist and also had to be rescued,” said Botha. He added that life guards raced to their assistance and pulled them back to the beach. “Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that two adults had tragically died, a twenty three year old

girl was in a serious condition and a girl aged around 16 was in a critical condition. “After the patients were stabilised, medics airlifted the critically ill patient to a specialised hospital while the other patient was transported by Netcare 911 to a local hospital for the care that she required,” he said.

Umgeni Water rubbishes rumours By Xpress Reporter

The hard hitting and psychologically battering drought situation that has plagued most Ilembe residents, have seen various rumours do the rounds. One in particular was that the Ilembe District Municipality

(IDM) was in arrears with Umgeni Water and is allegedly why water was stopped. An Umgeni water official said: “Umgeni Water can confirm there is no outstanding debt owed to Umgeni Water by iLembe District Municipality. iLembe District Municipality has been and remains up to date

with payment.” He added that Umgeni Water and iLembe District Municipality continued to enjoy cordial relations, to the extent that iLembe District Municipality “continues to remain a loyal customer and stakeholder.”

Councillors find Umvoti River impeded By Xpress Reporter MASTERMIND: Mbambo Mkazimulo (19) of Mandeni is a modern day inventor

By Xpress Reporter

Mbambo Mkazimulo (19) from the Mandeni Local Municipality is a gifted inventor with an impressive array of engineering skills. The unemployed Maths and Physics former Grade 12 learner showed off his model radio controlled airplane flying

car hybrid and a car that goes on water. Armed with photocopies of Popular Mechanics style blueprints, he showed future projects that he has planned. “They call me mastermind because I build working models and I love creating pieces of art like birds,” he said. He says that he looks up to Renaissance inventor, painter Leonardo Da Vinci.

Some KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) councillors from various political parties have proven to be proactive than reactive with regards to doing their investigations on the drought. Cllr Andrew Gopaul of the Democratic Alliance (DA) claims that “the Esnembe River that feeds into the

Umvoti River is impeded.” “I visited the river and found that water was being held back due to obstruction,” he said. When asked to elaborate, Cllr Gopaul referred to illegal sand mining and alleged trenching by farmers. “Ilembe officials are my witnesses to what happened as they took pictures,” said Cllr Gopaul. Another KDM councillor

along with Ilembe officials allegedly found anomalies in Glendale in the form of sand mining. Investigations are taking place. Ed's note: The community should pay attention to illegal sand mining that result in water supply problems. If you do find illegal activities taking place, you can call the authorities directly and report the would be criminals

KwaDukuza Civic and Ratepayers' Association Continued from page 1 crisis. The seven person interim committee includes: HR Mohammedy, D Moodley, M Sambiah, PR Govender, Y Nakooda, S Pillay and C Moolla with powers to co-opt. The meeting centered on the Golf Course Development and the plethora of issues both simple and complex. The Democratic Alliance (DA) Councillor (Cllr) Ebrahim Kolia and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Cllr Moosa Motala were vocal with mentions of key words like “billions”, “gastronomical”, “ratepayers”, “fraught” and

more. The free for all atmosphere saw many ratepayers give their thoughts on the matter of the Recreation and Country Club Grounds also being included. A mutual feeling by way of nodding heads in a “no” fashion was witnessed when one man stood up and said “who gave sporting bodies permission to accept Double Ring Trading's proposal without consulting the public.” The KCRA is already

FREE WATER COMMUNITY ARE WELCOME TO COLLECT BORE HOLE WATER FROM 18 SECOND STREET, NEWTOWN, STANGER

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his future plan for Africa at the third India-Africa Forum Summit in New Delhi on Thursday, 29 October 2015. Describing the two regions as bright spots in global economy, Modi said that various development priorities of the South Asian country are aligned with Africa's vision for its future and New Delhi is ready to take adequate measures in order to support

Notice

the “dark continent”. South Africa along with other nations are reported to benefit immensely from this future plan by Honourable Modi. He announced $10.6 billion for Africa in cheap credit and grants. He told the Summit: “To add strength to our partnership, India will offer concessional credit of USD 10.6 billion over the next five years. This will be in addition to our ongoing credit programme.” The PM further announced that India would sanction another USD 600

million for Africa as grant assistance and a part of this grant would be used for 50,000 scholarships over the next five years. While the India-Africa Development Fund will receive USD 100 million, the India-Africa Health Fund will get USD 10 million. Amid the denigration of the Indian community of KwaDukuza and KwaZuluNatal by Phumlani Mfeka, India and South Africa are in it for the long haul. Both countries share struggle legacies, partnerships such as

BRICS and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) since 1997. The Indian Ocean Rim is a region comprised of the states whose shores are washed by the waters of the Indian Ocean. The region is home to about two billion people. It is a region of much cultural diversity and richness - in languages, religions, traditions, arts and cuisines. The countries of the Indian Ocean Rim vary considerably in terms of their areas, populations and levels of economic development.

VILE: KwaDukuza residents have expressed their frustration regarding the repulsive state of the Theunissen Road area (near KwaDukuza Clinic) due to an alleged burst sewer pipe. According to a community member, the burst pipe was repaired, but the sewage is still on the road. “The pipe has been repaired, but the place has not been cleaned. It is really unhygienic,” she said.

It is alleged that the truth came out only after the 13-year-old victim's mother took her for a virginity test in the Lindelani area where they reside. The woman discovered that the girl was not a virgin after she lied about her status. She finally gave in and admitted to being in a sexual relationship with her boyfriend. Popiza Khanyisile (36) pleaded guilty and was given a fine of R3000 or 3 months imprisonment.

Whoonga spree The first day of November saw a good number of drug arrests in the CBD area. Scholar Siphamandla Ndlovu (20) of Tshelenkosi School was arrested with 13 tablets of ecstasy; Njabulo Ngoma (27) also of Shakaville was found in possession of 1 piece of cocaine; Simphiwe Wela (27) of the infamous railway houses had one straw of whoonga; Blessing Maluleka of Melville

girlfriend. She alleges that in July his ex came to his premises and damaged furniture as well as her clothing. She reported the matter to the police and there was a delay in arresting her. Last week, the ex went to the former boyfriend's house with a friend, dragged Dladla out of the house and assaulted her. This time, police arrested Thobile Khoza (19) and charged her on both cases. Khoza is expected back at court on 11 December.

Animal lovers’ fireworks campaign

Crime riddled CBD A routine check on an inconspicuous incident revealed much more than what police bargained for. The officers allege they spotted a man behaving suspiciously in the CBD. When he spotted them, he quickly crossed the road but they managed to catch up with him. On searching his bag, he tried to flee but was stopped. He had hair products he claimed he had bought at a local supermarket. A follow-up was done and he quickly changed his story claiming that his wife had bought the items and gave them to him. He could not provide a name nor a telephone number for his wife. Siyabonga Mnconyana (28) of Maphumulo was charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property and is due back in court this week to apply for bail.

Glittering Maths awards evening The Lower Tugela Maths Association (LTMA) hosted a glittering awards presentation at the KwaDukuza Town Hall on Wednesday, 4 November 2015, honouring the top mathematics achievers for 2015. In August, the LTMA hosted an inter-school Top 20 (using cards and the four basic operations to arrive at a desired outcome/result) and Math-aMove (using dice and the application of addition, multiplication, division or subtraction to move towards the finish line) competition for learners from grade four to seven. Significance of Diwali Diwali is the most popular of all Hindu festivals. Swami Sivananda once said Diwali may have come and gone but the hearts of many people are as dark as the night of the new moon. How true that people are racing for material accomplishment and ignoring spiritual development which is the ultimate purpose of every Hindu in God-realisation. Let us adjust and make meaningful contributions to the upliftment of society. Diwali marks the victory of good over evil. Deepavali means an array of lights and signifies the victory of brightness over darkness'. It is through the light that the beauty of this world is revealed and experienced. To Hindus darkness represents ignorance and “light” is represents spiritual knowledge like compassion for fellow human beings, empathy, kindness and understanding. The lighting of diyas (clay lamps) symbolizes the destruction of evil forces wickedness, violence, anger, injustice, oppression and suffering'. The lighting of lamps also in a way helps us to pay obeisance to God for the attainment of good health, wealth, knowledge and peace. Diwali is celebrated for many different reasons but the best known to all Hindus is that it marks the return of Lord Rama, King of Ayodhya, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman from a 14 year exile and a war in which he vanquished the “demon” King Ravana. On Diwali, the goddess Laxmi a symbol of prosperity and is worshipped for peace and happiness. Gifts and sweetmeats are shared, followed by the lighting of firecrackers. Hindus must maintain their rich legacy and cultural identity. This festival underpins the ideals of caring, sharing and understanding. Diwali celebrations transcends the barriers of race, gender, creed, socioeconomic factors and status. An African proverb says: “The sun of yesterday may have set, but its light will enlighten our future days.” On behalf of the Shree Hanuman Temple Group of Stanger Manor we wish all Hindus a blessed Diwali. Use fireworks with extra care.

POLI Ingredients 2 cups all purpose flour 250g cold butter, grated ½ cup cold milk 1 tblsp. cider vinegar a pinch of salt

BURFEE

Ingredients: 200g Milk Powder 1 tin (225g) Milk Cream or Condensed Milk ( Normally it has sugar in it, so do not additional sugar or add very little) 1/8 teaspoon Choti Elachi (Cardamom seeds powder) 100 grams Sugar (to taste)

out and let it stand for 5 minutes to cool down. 5. Add the sugar ( if you have used the condensed milk then do not add sugar or add only a little bit) 6. Once again put it in micowave for two more minutes. 7. Take a flat plate or tray, roll the mixture on it flat. 8. Let it set for 2 - 3 hours, put it in the fridge. You can sprinkle some Kewra water or Rose Water before putting it in the fridge. 9. Cut diagonal or square shapes as desired.

Method: 1. Mix the Milk powder and the Milk Cream in a microwave safe bowl. 2. Put the bowl in a microwave for a total time of 6-8 minutes. 3. Make sure that you take out the bowl out after each 2 minutes, stir it and put it back again to heat. 4. After heating it for 7-8 minutes take it

Tip: Do not be guided by the clock do not wait for exactly 2 minutes before you switch off the microwave (as explained in step 4), just stop the microwave the moment the milk tends to rise, let it cool and then heat it up again. If you overheat is then the Burfee will come out like Rock Salt.

If you need a less fat variety of this recipe then use the Skim Milk Powder and Fat Free or Reduced Fat Milk Cream or Condensed Milk. This is a quick and Easy Recipe for making Burfee

The Xpress Times team wishes all Hindus a blessed and peaceful Diwali Xpress Diwali Competition winners

Happy Diwali : BEST WISHES: The learners of Hilltop Pre-School wish all Hindus in the community a Happy and joyous Diwali today.

Coconut Biscuits (Eggless) 1) Pre-heat the oven to 320 degree F or 160 degree C for at least 10 minutes. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it. 2) Take all purpose flour, corn starch and coconut in a bowl. 3) Mix well till it gets incorporated. 4) Soften butter and powdered sugar in another bowl. 5) Beat it till it gets light and smooth. Then beat in vanilla and coconut extract. 6) Add flour mixture. 7) Mix it with wood spoon or spatula till it gets crumbly texture. 8) Then using your hands, knead into a dough, it will be little dry but still it will come together. 9) Start making smooth balls of about 1 inch diameter. I got 13 balls out of it. 10) Arrange them on cookie sheet, don't worry about the space they won't spread much. 11) Bake into preheated oven for 32-35 minutes. By touch, it feels firm and it starts to get brown from the bottom. If it does not brown then increase the temperature to 350 degree f or 180 degree C for last 2 minutes. 12) Let them cool into sheet for 10 minutes, if you see bottom will be light brown like this. 13) Then remove it to the cooling rack to cool completely.

TAKING WATER TO THE COMMUNITY Thank you for water As we all know we are all faced with a major concern and that's the water problem. It is very difficult for us to handle this situation as some of us have to come to work. The worst is when we sleeping, that's when the water flows through our taps who would have thought .I just want to thank all the members who are helping us with the supply of water (underground water). I am sure that the community and myself really appreciate it for your good deeds. Thank you once again for your helping hand at times like this. May God continue to bless you good Samaritans! Shanti Singh Windy Heights

Water crisis - Thank you As we set deeper into the water crisis in KwaDukuza, I personally think we need to recognize the volunteers that are distributing water. A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers. This is an example of the wonderful people who live in KwaDukuza. Thank you for your hard work and your passion in serving your fellow citizens. We never could have asked for a more dedicated band of volunteers and words cannot express how grateful we are as a community. It is a pleasure and a privilege to know that you are ready to serve at a time of need. Thank you for your inspiring dedication and tremendous example you are setting in our community. Words cannot convey our gratitude for your tremendous service. The credit for your good deed firmly rests, in the saying, “Service to man is service to God”. And we will always remember that, Volunteers don't necessarily have the time, but they have the heart. Thank you. Sandeep Oudhram

“Water free of charge to the community” A casual Saturday afternoon conversation about the needs of the people has resulted in a group of concerned brothers from the Muslim community of KwaDukuza (Stanger) gathering up whatever resources were available and distributing water free of charge to the community. Utilising a combination of vehicles and trailers with water tanks the community effort began on Saturday, 31 October 2015 with a distribution of 3000 litres of water to the residents of Lindelani and Shakaville. The gesture of goodwill was well received and a decision was taken to expand the efforts

further. Armed with a team of dedicated volunteers, together with a few sponsorships from companies that manufacture 5lt & 20lt plastic bottles as well as 20lt buckets the effort gathered momentum. A few private individuals with boreholes that had potable (drinking) water offered us the use of their resources to fill the containers that were received free of charge. On Tuesday evening (03 Nov 2015) we held a general meeting with the Muslim community to report back on the efforts thus far and address the sustainability of this project. Various concerns and suggestions were received and will be implemented in our action plan going forward. By Sunday evening (08 Nov 2015) we have distributed in total approximately 180 000 litres of water to the following areas : Lindelani, Shakaville, Upper Stanger Manor, Glenhills, New Guelderland, Shayamoya, Happy Valley, Ntshawini, Lloyds, Stanger Hospital, Warrenton, Highridge, Mhlabatini, Doesburg, Sunny Park, Northlands Park, Kwadukuza CBD, Old Age Homes, Darnall, Doctorskop, Doringkop, Rocky Park, Newtown, Lot 16 and Hillview. Whilst our efforts cannot replace the work that our municipality is doing to alleviate the current crisis we sincerely hope that we can supplement their services to the community. To the individuals and businesses that have helped us thus far in our project we sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts and your reward is from the Almighty only.

We salute the KwaDukuza Muslim community In our time of drought, The Stanger Muslim Community, has rallied around the community irrespective of race and religion and has delivered water to all areas of Stanger. Over 200 000 liters of water has been distributed to those in need due to the genorisity of the Stanger Sunni Mosque committee. This project will be ongoing until the drought ends. We thank those that have generously supplied their vehicles and time to distribute water as well as those individuals who grant the public access to their boreholes. Hats off to all who are involved in this community driven project. In our time of crisis what is the Ilembe district municipality doing to assist us in Kwa Dukuza? Where are all the ward councillors and what is their long term solution to this AS MITHA

A mouse was having a very bad time. She could find no food at all. She looked here and there, but there was no food, and she grew very thin. At last the mouse found a basket, full of corn. There was a small hole in the basket, and she crept in. She could just get through the hole. Then she began to eat the corn. Being very hungry, she ate a great deal, and went on eating and eating. She had grown very fat before she felt that she had had enough. When the mouse tried to climb out of the basket, she could not. She was too fat to pass through the hole. "How shall I climb out?" said the mouse. "Oh, how shall I climb out?” Just then a rat came along, and he heard the mouse. "Mouse," said the rat, "If you want to climb out of the basket, you must wait till you have grown as thin as you were when you went in!”

Barronet was run out for just 2 runs bringing in J. Botha to the crease joining H. Naicker. Botha did not last long as he was clean bowled by Rautenbach for 3. Thereafter, wickets tumbled at regular intervals with the last 7 wickets going for just 32 runs. Rautenbach took the last three wickets for ducks as Harlequin were bowled out for 78 in the 24th over, giving iLembe a 22 run win.
