he world's icon, Nelson Mandela, passed away peacefully on Thursday night (8:50pm) at his Houghton home in Johannesburg surrounded by his wife, Graça Machel and members of his family. He was 95. In a televised speech to the nation, State President Jacob Zuma said that Mandela would receive a state funeral and that flags will fly at half mast during a 10 day mourning period. Tata Madiba's official memorial was at the FNB Stadium in Gauteng on Tuesday, 10 December 2013. His body will lie in state at the Union buildings from the 11 13 December 2013. iLembe ICT Manager wins award

The iLembe District Municipality Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Manager Khanyi Ndelu walked away with the ICT Services Award at the second annual awards held at the Durban City Hall recently. Ndelu, who joined iLembe in January 2012, said this was the first time she had been nominated for an award. “I'm not really into competitions or anything of the sort so being nominated on its own was an honor for me. It's great to be recognized for the work one has been doing for the past 11 years in a predominantly male dominated field,” she said. Before joining the iLembe family Ndelu worked as a Deputy Director of Contracts and Information Systems for the Department of Water Affairs. “I was there for three years and before that I was a Deputy Director Information Technology

Everybody is talking about Mandela's legacy and the lessons that can be learnt from this world icon. Thabo Mbeki also said that the question of leadership will be critical and come under question. Sadly the honesty, trust, integrity, uprightness, decency, respectability and other wholesome values that he espoused will quickly disappear now more than ever before. Madiba was there as a moral conscience and a beacon of hope of the ANC. Our esteemed current leadership said in Bryanston Church at Sunday night's vigil that we should 'uphold the high moral standards and values that Mandela espoused'. That is a bold statement indeed, but truth be told, it may not materialize, what with all the scandal and controversy that presently surrounds him. Unfortunately he is not adequate enough, and any comparison between himself and Nelson Mandela will be very, very embarrassing and quite honestly, inappropriate. It seems now that the only objective of the current leadership is to enrich themselves at the taxpayer's expense, get tangled in one scandal after another and shove into the background all that the global icon espoused. Many thousands of cabinet ministers, councilors, mayors and other office bearers owe their livelihood to this gigantic personality, Nelson Mandela, as they are on the government payroll for the rest of their lives. It makes one wonder whether some ministers and Madiba belonged to the same party and if they shared the same values. Our hope and prayer should be that our country continues to respect, uphold and promote the admirable values that Madiba fought for. You fought and won your battles, Madiba. Now it's time to see if your lessons were well taught! Keep your thoughts flowing and the letters rolling

The Stanger Siva Temple dedicated its Sunday service on the 8 December 2013 to the memory of Nelson Mandela. Various speakers praised him for his love for all people and his never say die attitude. During the prayer 27 lamps were lit to signify the 27 years Mandela spent in prison. In Hinduism, the lamps represent the transition from darkness to light in this sense it represents the struggle that Mandela went through to help liberate South Africa. Mr SV Naicker in his speech stated that the day wasn't about politics but the man who created democracy and brought about a

peaceful transition to freedom for all people in what was to become known as the “Rainbow Nation” and reconciliation. Manee Padaychee said that the greatness of the man, who spent 27 years of his life in prison for the people of this country, made him a global icon and the most revered person of his generation. In years to come men will wonder how such a man of flesh and blood walked this earth According to Dan Naidoo, Nelson Mandela was a son of South Africa who later became the Father of the Nation and owing to his ideals of non-violence and compassion for all be it the oppressed or the oppressor her became the Father of the world at

He had faith in God and faith in this country to bury Apartheid and start the process of democracy. “Our Mandela, a great man and a super soul.” To keep his teachings and memory alive: forgive ,make peace, bury the past and work with “enemy”. Kwadukuza and areas close by also hold a special bond with the Iconic leader as the ANC held numerous secret meeting in Kwadukuza, New Gelderland and Groutville during the time of the struggle. Other prominent members of the ANC like E.B Mohamdy, Chief Albert Luthuli, Ahmed Kathrada and others also held secret ANC meeting in the area. The last trip Mandela made before being captured at Howick and sentenced to imprisonment on Robben Island was from Stanger to Johannesburg. In a meeting held at Mamma Luthuli's house in Groutville in 1995, Mr Naidoo who was the Mayor at the time had the privilege of meeting the great man in person.

The Sunfoil KZN Cricket Coaches Association (SKCCA) has elected its first committee. Last month, members of the Association gathered at Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead to vote for their first committee. The formation of the Coaches Association Committee will ensure that the Coaches Association runs smoothly and the members are properly qualified with at least a CSA Level 1 cricket coaching qualification. A voting procedure took place with 8 nominees on the ballot. Once the votes had been counted the following committee members were appointed; Steve Belluigi (President), Knowledge Vilakazi (Vice President), Mo Mather (Treasurer), Gayathree Bhoola, Nqoba Allan Langa, Jay Naidoo (ex officio) and Yashin Hassan-Ebrahim (ex officio). Jesse Chellan, CEO of Sunfoil Dolphins commented, “Coaches form the backbone of any sporting organisation. They are the driving force in growing and improving the game. KZN Cricket congratulates the new committee and pledges its support.” Steve Belluigi, President of SKCCA said, “The professional coaching structures are well organized and KZN's most qualified coach has done his level best to educate qualified coaches with regard to the very latest scientific developments in the game, but the amateur structures were not formalized creating a situation whereby they were not represented at the highest decision making level of the Union. Our first step was to create these structures and I am honoured at having been elected President thereof. “As with any teaching profession, the quality of the output is mostly dependent on the quality of the input. The duty of the KZN Cricket Union is to ensure that the input is of the highest quality available and it has chosen the Sunfoil KZN Cricket Coaching Association to achieve this objective. Quality output will follow naturally” he added. These are its major objectives, as enshrined in its new Constitution: • To provide a forum for the continual enhancement of cricket coaching. • To promote cricket coaching in all communities with specific focus on those who have been historically disadvantaged. • To enlighten coaches in all aspects of the game. • To create regular opportunities for the advancement of coaches. • To propose and recommend coaching standards and governance to the KwaZulu Natal Shop 1B Ushaka Mall Cricket Union.
