waDukuza successfully held the KwaZulu-Natal disability games over the weekend. The games are used to raise awareness about health issues facing people with disabilities such as obesity, depression and cardiovascular diseases due to them not doing physical exercises and not having enough support to enable them to participate in competitive sport. MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Bongi Sithole-Moloi has applauded the disability sector for their commitment to doing things for themselves instead of relying on government and others. Sithole-Moloi was speaking at the conclusion of the KZN Provincial Disability Games at Stanger High School in KwaDukuza, Ilembe District on Saturday, 10 November 2018. Police in KwaZulu-Natal are making an appeal to women in the province to be alert at all times and not fall victims to con men who target them for their hard-earned money. According to KZN SAPS Spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, there are criminals who target older, widowed or divorced women, pretending to want a relationship with them. “They would then influence them to resign from their

Women have fallen victims of such modus operandi and it is not easy to investigate cases where there has been an agreement of exchange of cash in a romantic relationship,” she said. New strict rules proposed for drunk drivers

The Road Traffic Management Corp (RTMC) is pushing for tougher action against those arrested for drunk driving including making them spend at least seven days behind bars before they can be considered for bail. In a new policy proposal to the
department of justice, the RTMC asks that driving under the influence (DUI), speeding and reckless or negligent driving be reclassified in terms of the Criminal Procedures Act. The RTMC wants the department to change DUI from a schedule 2 to a schedule 5 offence, which would mean that motorists arrested for it would

At present, many of those arrested for DUI can be granted bail by the police within hours of being taken into custody.

LIFESTYLE WALK: Seen are the ANC members in ward 29 embarking on a Healthy Lifestyle Walk on Saturday, 10 November 2018
By Xpress Reporter
The African National Congress, Ward 29 branch in the General Gizenga Mpanza region held a Healthy Lifestyle Walk on 10 November 2018. The aim of the event was to help members of the community understand the benefits of walking 40
minutes a day. Community members and ANC supporters came in their numbers to take part in the walk which originated in Dube Village to Charlottedale ward 29. Convener of the walk and Secretary of the branch, Dumisile Luthuli cited that as people age, they become
more vulnerable to chronic diseases. She said that as the ANC in ward 29, they are trying to prevent those diseases. “Walking is one of the recommended ways to maintain and improve your health, as the ANC in ward 29 we used this healthy lifestyle walk to raise
awareness against opportunistic diseases. We also pledge to continue working together with our people to make everyone understand the benefits of walking,” said Luthuli. She also urged KwaDukuza residents to make it their daily routine to walk 30 minutes each day.
attempted murder and kidnapping was opened at Newark police station for investigation. Police worked around the clock to find the suspects. Four males aged between 19 and 43 were arrested two months ago and taken to court where they were remanded in custody. Police investigations continued and it led to the arrest of Masinga who had fled the area. The accused had suspected the victims of committing crimes in the area but no cases against the victims could be found. KZN SAPS expressed that acts of vigilantism will not be tolerated in this province and people are urged to report criminal activities to the police who will investigate and arrest the suspects.
On 9 November 2018, Thandiwe Nomusa Masinga (49) appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court facing charges of murder, attempted murder and kidnapping. She was remanded in custody until her next court appearance on 14 November 2018 with her accomplices. It is alleged that in May 2018, the accused and her four accomplices went to a house in Bulwer Farm in the Newark policing precinct and took two males with them. They were assaulted with bush knives, wooden sticks and stabbed with spears. Lungisani Buthelezi (18) succumbed to his injuries and another victim (20) managed to flee with serious injuries. DA stands with the people of KwaDukuza The KwaDukuza Crime March is an opportunity for the residents of KwaDukuza to vocalise and show, in a symbolic way; their extreme unhappiness with the local KwaDukuza SAPS and the police service in general. The people are tired of being subjected to an unprofessional police force that allows rampant crime to throttle KwaDukuza. That is why we the Democratic Alliance (DA) are standing with the people of KwaDukuza and by marching with the people of KwaDukuza and we committed to holding the police and the National Police Minister responsible for what they do and don't do. The DA will not rest until they come and answer the people of KwaDukuza with regards to the shocking statistics of a 1,4 % conviction rate for serious crimes. We are fighting with the people and we need you to stand with us at SADTU Park on Saturday, 17 November 2018 at 10am.

R18.1 million rollover rejected by National Treasury Despite numerous calls by the DA to spend grant allocation within the financial year or outer years if the projects were spread over several years the KDM failed miserably and took things for granted that funds not spent in the financial will automatically be rolled over in the next financial year. A hard hitting letter to KDM by National Treasury states “Your request to roll over unspent amount of R18. 1 million into the 2018/19 financial year by your municipality is NOT approved. The rejection is with respect to the Integrated National Electrification Programme.” said Malijeng Ngqaleni Deputy DirectorGeneral: Intergovernmental Relations. In terms of the Municipal Finance Management Act strict guidelines are set out. It was noted zero expenditure against grant and also included rollover from previous financial year in the tune of R8 million was not fully utilised. Rollover of rollovers are not supported in terms of circular 91 of the MFMA. This has dealt a heavy blow for KDM in completing the projects with electrification. Although Eskom is cited as delaying the process especially rural areas you cannot have a situation when little or no progress is made in utilising the grant allocation. This is a wake up call for KDM and the accounting officer the MM cannot be happy with this outcome. Turnaround strategy to utilise all grant funding must be put in place and there should be consequence management if Executive Directors are found wanting in their line of duty. Worst still is to return R15 million to the National Treasury before end of the month. In normal circumstance grants returned are re-allocated to better performing municipalities. What a loss to communities waiting for service delivery? Cllr Madhun Sobram Sing Ward 17 DA Caucus Leader KwaDukuza Municipality Ilembe District Municipality

TVGB, who have dominated the local volleyball scenes in the maiden year, once again were crowned the Moon & Sons sponsored KwaDukuza Volleyball Association season closing volleyball knock out volleyball champions played at the association courts at Stanger High last Thursday. They took on a very determined Sunbrook squad who had beaten them earlier in the pool round robin stages. This set up the clash of the
titans between the Shakaskraal based TVGB and Stanger Heights Sunbrook. The final lived up to expectations with fireworks displayed on the courts just a day after Diwali. Favourites TVGB were made to dig deep in their reserves against to overcome a determined Sunbrook outfit bolstered by the boisterous support received by the crowd. TVGB held on to win the first set 25-22 with Nolan Govender superior in
attack blasting the ball to all parts of Sunbrook's court space, At the turn of the set, Sunbrook came out with super firepower match the Shakaskraal lads all the way. The second set was a real humdinger and evenly poised as both teams matched each other in all departments. Sunbrook secured the second set 28-26 to level the sets at 1-1 and push the game into the final decisive set.

Shanlin Pillay, playmaker was superb for TVGB throughout the tournament and combined well with outside hitter Govender as they took a slender 8-6 lead at the change of courts. Thereafter, TVGB never looked back as they secured the final set and championship winning 15-11. Another new club, Heights under the tutorship of experienced Neren 'Bob' Reddy and Sandhir 'Tin Boy' Jugmoham surprised most when they took on the experienced Darnall United for a podium finish. Darnall gained first advantage hammering the debutantes 2511. Heights returned the favour in the second set with surprise 25-10 win. They then pushed Darnall all the way in the final set, losing out to Darnall 12-15. Tournament Director, Revy Harryprasad thanked Devan Chinnakoo from Moon & Sons for his generous sponsorship. KDVA will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at the Quartz at 7pm to finalise arrangements for the annual presentation evening.

stride to the crease and immediately stamped his authority on the game putting the Dawnheights bowlers to the sword. Big hitting coupled with the small boundary resulted in the scoreboard rattling along at a healthy rate. Preshen fell to the veteran Nikilesh Misra. Thereafter wickets fell at a regular rate. Morningside closed their allotted 20 overs on a respectable 172. Dawnheights got off to a disastrous start with a wicket of the 1st ball. Thereafter wickets continued to fall. Captain Comfort Shange brought some much required stability to the innings with Ishan Kalia. The departure of Comfort (51) saw Nikilesh Misra join Ishan Kalia who continued attacking the bowlers. Ishan
ended on 72 not out (8 huge sixes). Misra fell 2 runs short of the total. DCC won the match with 3 overs to spare. In the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Challenge league fixture against Phoenix, Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat. Tight Dawnheights bowling saw Phoenix lose batsmen in each of their first 2 overs. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals which saw the run rate being kept lower than Phoenix would have liked. At 34/7, Phoenix were reeling with Keane Govender taking 4 and Ishan Kalia the other 3. A lower order partnership for the 8th wicket took score to 67. Their innings closed on 73 with the last wicket falling to Raj who ended with 3 wickets. Dawnheights lost their opener in the third over and was joined by Avishkar Ramduth and together with opener Dlamini set about the chase. Avishkar was out on 8 and which brought Raj to the crease. Raj and Dlamini (43 not out) secured the victory just before lunch was called thereby completing a great double for Dawnheights.
iLembe's winning start to season continues...
iLembe continued their excellent start in the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union 50 over Challenge league beating Verulam by 143 runs this Sunday. Their impressive victory was on top of their opening fixture against Harlequins a fortnight ago. iLembe won the toss and decided to bat first. I. Sher (8) was the first wicket to fall in the 5th over. C. Shange and Y. Ismail began the task of steadying the ship as the pair put on 68 for the 3rd wicket before Ismail fell to T. Mali for 26. Pillay was next to go in the 20th over for a patient 41. The rest
of iLembe batters got starts stacking up the 2's and dispatching the bad balls to the boundaries. S. Logenathan (29), skipper Z. Ali (22), R. Mhlongo (14) and veteran Bilal Ismail (12) help iLembe to post a moderate but competitive 207 all out in 47.5 overs. The chief destroyers for Verulam were L. Moodley (4/38 in 9.5 overs), K. Shivai (3/24 in 8 overs) and T. Mali (2/22 in 10 overs). Chasing 4.14 runs to the over was gettable but the iLembe bowlers were on a mission to take no prisoners. Aaron Pillay removed both openers, R. Singh and K. Baijnath for 5 and 6
respectively. A. Singh was then Pillay's next victim when he was caught for a duck by N. Yousaf. Pillay was bowling as if possessed when he had K. Sivai caught behind by Y. Ismail for 3 in the 12th over. With the score on 39, S. Sadayen also wanted to get some action trapping the only batter to post double figures, P. Appanah for 23. The next 5 Verulam wickets fell for just 23 as they were bowled out for 64 in 19.2 overs. Super strikers Aaron Pillay (6/38 in 9.2 overs) and S. Sadayen (4/25 in 10 overs) were the destroyers-inchief as they blew away the opposition.

KDAC awards function Dhan's Auto/Singh's Firework produce thriller
New executive elected by KDAC for 2019
PRO of KDDA, Ajen Singh receives a cheque of R3500 from Management and staff of Strini Motors
The much awaited Strini Auto Spares sponsored KwaDukuza Darts League clash between arch rivals Dhan's Auto Darts Club and Singh's Fireworks Darts Club produced the anticipated fireworks as Dhan's Auto held on by tooth to win 5-4 at the Quartz Sports Bar. The start of the first team game (1001) was slow with Singh's taking full advantage of Dhan's wayward darts. Singh's took a 1-0 victory winning the event. In the second game, Singh's could not produce the same resilience as they failed to close with Dhan's Auto clawing their way back into when the levelled the scores 1-1. By this time it seems Dhan's motors were warming up like a diesel engine when they forged ahead 2-1.
With the doubles game (701), Dhan's made their intentions clear as the pairing of Justin Naidoo and Vasa Rungasamy extended the lead to 3-1 after they defeated Meersing Sobram and Ajen Singh. However, Singh's were not going to be left back as the duo of Sanjay Singh and Dennis Govender proved too powerful beating Dhan's duo of Charlie Pillay and Navern Coopsamy to reduce the scores to 3-2. With 4 singles games (501) remaining, the results could have favoured any team. Sobram gave Singh's first draw beating Justin in the first singles to level matters at 3-3. Rungasamy then stepped up a gear for Dhan's accounting for Padayachee to give Dhan's a slender 4-3 lead. Singh's were not
about to cave in as Singh beat Coopsamy to level scores at 4-4 once again. The game came down to the wire in the last game when Charlie took on Dennis. Charlie was in no mood for defeat as he outscored and outplayed Dennis to give Dhan's Auto a memorable hard fought 5-4 victory. Charlie Pillay booked himself into the 180 Cup to be held later this month by scoring 171 (three triple 19) In the other game played, Red Gold Darts Club trounce Quartz Darts Club 6-3. Meanwhile, Management and staff of Strini Motors handed over their sponsorship of R3500 for the league to KDDA. KDDA thanked Strini Motors for their generous sponsorship.
BEYOND THE TOUCHLINE It was a good weekend for South African supporters of rugby and cricket. At the Stade de France in Paris, this time it was the turn of the Springboks to get a last-gasp win over the hosts with a try by Bongi Mbonambi. It was a good come-back by the visitors who were trailing the Tricolors by more than 20 points at one stage. But the tactics employed by the coaching staff backfired and a game-plan revolving around Faf de Klerk's boot and a blunt instrument smashing the French up front never came off. A plan B is necessary and adjustments need to be made. And it just, only just, saved them the embarrassment of defeat at being bullied by a French pack much lighter than the Boks'. A different mind-set will have to be employed against their next opponents, Scotland and Wales, over the next fortnight. Down under, the Proteas clinched the ODI series with a convincing 40 runs win over the Aussies in the 3rd and deciding contest at Hobart after narrowly losing the 2nd game by 6 runs. It was their most complete performance of the series, finally clicking with both bat and ball for their first series win in Australia since 2009. Skipper Faf du Plessis (125) and Man-of- the-Match, David Miller (139), set the platform with a magnificent 4thwicket partnership to take the Proteas to their highest ODI score (320). Thereafter, in spite of Sean Marsh's century, the fast-bowling
trio of Steyn, Rabada and Ngidi, with an accurate display of deathbowling, ensured that the Aussie batsmen would be restrained from reaching the imposing target. They now play a one-off T20 international on Sunday before returning home to participate in the much-publicised MSL which begins on Friday. The first match in Durban is on Sunday between Durban Heat and Cape Town Blitz. The eyes and ears of the football fans were focused on the Manchester derby and this time round the "noisy neighbours" emerged victorious 3-1 in a convincing display. The welloiled City machine dominated throughout and did not allow United to cause any upset as it did in April. It kept its unbeaten record and leads the table with 32 points followed by Liverpool (30) and Chelsea (28) who also remain unbeaten after 12 matches. Lying at the bottom is Fulham with 5 points. In the ABSA Premiership, league-leaders Orlando Pirates were held to a 0-0 draw by Sundowns in a match high-lighted by the fracas that took place on the sidelines. This result left Sundowns 5 points behind Pirates (23) with 3 games in hand. Kaizer Chiefs were also held to a 0-0 draw at home by Chippa United. Propping up the log table are the two KZN clubs, Maritzburg United and AmaZulu with 8 and 4 points respectively. They will
have to improve drastically to avoid being involved in a relegation b a t t l e towards the end of the Jayce Singh is a former season. sports administrator and Patron of the KZNCU The last word. The shenanigans by the respective benches in the Orlando Pirates versus Sundowns match once again brought the game and the PSL into disrepute. Not only were the players involved but also the coaches, the assistants, other backroom staff and hangers on. Even a supporter of one of the clubs was able to get to the technical area without being detected or stopped by the Security staff. This is unacceptable at a match of this magnitude. The behaviour of the protagonists is unpardonable. No matter how much tempers may be frayed, responsible personnel of the clubs cannot allow anarchy to prevail. If this prevails, then the future of SA football is skating on thin ice. In my humble opinion, there are too many people in the technical area which causes unnecessary interference in what is going on in the middle. Perhaps the officials of the PSL can look into this and come out with a solution. Otherwise, the chances of a repetition are always imminent. Until the next time, have a happy sporting weekend.
KwaDukuza hosted their annual awards evening and general meeting over the weekend. Athletes who performed outstandingly for the club were honoured on the night. 3 athletes completed the gruelling Comrades Marathon. Danny Sewmungal, Roshan Chalithar and Rajen Padayachee clocked in before the cut-off point. Incidentally, Chalithar in the process of completing the event, completed his tenth Comrades and received a green number by the Comrades Marathon Association. Dedicated runner and leader of the pack, Nikeyi 'Iron Man Jawaan Maarbeel was honoured by the
