Hamba Kahle Comrade Ricardo Musa Mnyandu

It was with a sense of numbing shock that news of the tragic death of Njabulo Ricardo Mthembu was received by the community of KwaDukuza and beyond. The former mayor of KwaDukuza Local Municipality passed away on Wednesday, 08 July 2020, following a short illness. At the time of his death, Mthembu was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature, where he chaired the portfolio committee on cooperative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta). He was also a member of the provincial executive committee (PEC) of the African National Congress, in which he had also risen to become the member of the provincial working committee (PWC), which is responsible for the day-to-day running of the ruling party in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The late former mayor was without a doubt on a rapid upward political mobility as he had also been recently elected as the provincial spokesperson of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal. His appetite for community activism, as

expounded upon by KwaZulu-Natal Premier and ANC p r o v i n c i a l chairperson Sihle Zikalala, was insatiable. Just recently, Mthembu had founded a c h a r i t y organization, known as the Njabulo Ricardo Charity Foundation, which provided much needed relief to v u l n e r a b l e c o m m u n i t y members in the area of KwaDukuza. KwaZulu-Natal Premier and p r o v i n c i a l chairperson of the ANC, Sihle Zikalala described the late Mthembu as “a dedicated exponent of people-centred development”. Zikalala said during his political career as a councillor and later as mayor, Mthembu had worked tirelessly to better the lives of the people of KwaDukuza and to fast-track economic growth. “We have lost a true hero (of the people). As the coronavirus spreads through our country, the reality is that it could affect any business. In order to mitigate risk, Stanger SUPERSPAR has implemented several safety protocols, including: 1. Staff health screening takes place daily whereby a digital thermometer is used to record the temperature of each and every staff member to identify any potential symptoms very early and take the necessary action to avoid any contact situations. Anyone displaying symptoms will be sent home immediately and advised to seek the necessary medical assistance. This also applies to suppliers and external delivery staff. 2. As per government directive, wearing of face masks is mandatory by all staff, suppliers and customers. 3. The entire store, including all service areas and backup areas, is deep cleaned on an ongoing basis by specialised service provider, Multiserve, using antibacterial, food-safe chemicals accredited by the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications.

This includes all till points, offices and store backup and preparation areas. 4. Cleaning and sanitisation of countertops, surfaces and any touchpoints, such as card machines, is taking place with alcohol-based wipes or solution on a continuous basis throughout the store. 5. Alcohol-based hand sanitiser is available for staff and customers at the store entrance, service departments, all till points and other locations throughout the store and centre. 6. Hygiene trolley wipes are available at the entrance of the store, trolleys and shopping baskets are deep cleaned on an ongoing basis. 7. Cashier screens are in place at every till point. 8. As per the Disaster Management Act, a store selling essential goods must ensure the regulated social distancing of customers. In accordance with this, the directive from The SPAR Group SA is to allow one person per 8m2. Customer count is monitored hourly to ensure compliance and we ask our customers to please respect the social distancing directives. 9. Social distancing floor markers are in place behind all till points and at the entrance of store in order to

encourage and remind customers about social distancing protocol. 10. Staff are being issued with vitamin tablets on a monthly basis.. “At Stanger SUPERSPAR, we always strive to provide exceptional customer service, top class products and excellent value for money. Ramaphosa addresses nation on risk-adjusted lockdown On Sunday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will remain on level 3 of the risk-adjusted lockdown, but regulations will be tightened to ease pressure on the country's healthcare system and slow down the spread of Covid-19. Ramaphosa announced that following consultations with the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), cabinet had decided to ban the sale of alcohol with immediate effect. A curfew will also be introduced between 9 pm and 4 am. Only those who would be working during that time will be allowed to be out of their homes. Family visits will remain banned and public parks will be opened, but only for exercise but not for public gatherings. The national state of disaster has also been extended to August 15.

Ramaphosa said the pressure on the country's healthcare system was too high and these extreme measures were needed to ensure that the country's hospitals deal only with coronavirus cases and not alcohol-related trauma incidents. South Africa's ambassador to Denmark Zindziswa Mandela has died. The Department of International Relations on Monday confirmed the death of the daughter of late struggle icons Nelson Mandela and
