SA covid-19 stats South Africa recorded 1 757 new confirmed Covid19 cases on Monday, along with 50 new confirmed deaths. According to Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize, the cumulative number of confirmed deaths is 55 260, “Today, 50 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 4, Free State 30, Gauteng 6, Kwa-Zulu Natal 0, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 8 and Western Cape 2 which brings the total to 55 260 deaths. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients. The cumulative recoveries now stand at 1 526 638 representing a recovery rate of 94, 5%,” said Mkhize on Monday. “Phase two vaccination rollout proceeded reasonably well today, notwithstanding some challenges experienced in the respective provinces, of which load-shedding and violent protests in the Free State were the most impactful. Although most of the sites were able to proceed, a large number of vaccinations were captured on paper and the numbers are still being reconciliated. In addition the numbers vaccinated at old age homes still need to be captured. We will therefore allow for this reconciliation over the course of the next 24 hours and will announce the numbers vaccinated in phase two as from tomorrow. In due course we will launch a public facing dashboard that will publish the numbers near real time,” added the Minister.

Stanger Manor Primary saga continues…. By Xpress Reporter
KDM says “uneven” road is not dangerous
was the electoral officer, and I am aware there are objections. But I cannot comment any further than that”. He in turn referred the Xpress Times to a Dr Mthembu from the Department of Education's iLembe District Office. At the time of going to press, numerous attempts to contact Dr Mthembu for comment had drawn a blank. And the KZN Department of Education had not yet responded to queries regarding this matter. Some of the parents who attended the meeting on the 8th said the electoral process had been without any wrinkles. Many are puzzled as to why the two former SGB members, who were also present at the meeting, still want to remain as part of the SGB. It's common knowledge that the Department of Education is conducting a forensic investigation against the school, following serious allegations of impropriety which allegedly happened under the watch of the previous SGB. It seems rather strange that these STANGER LASER HAIR REMOVAL members still desire to GET YOUR HAIR FREE BODY NOW! continue to serve the Diode painfree laser school.
Just when the community of KwaDukuza thought the problems besieging Stanger Manor Primary School were over, out comes another crisis. Well, this one comes in the form of an objection to the election of the new School Governing Body, which took place on the 8th of May 2021. Xpress Times has learnt that two members of the erstwhile SGB have lodged an objection to the electoral process, citing some alleged “irregularities”. The new chairperson of the SGB, Theven Naidoo, confirmed during an interview with the Xpress Times recently that the new SGB had heard that “there were objections”. He however couldn't elaborate, referring the matter to the electoral officer on the day. The electoral officer, Mr H Naidoo, has also declined to comment, except to say that, “Yes I can confirm that I

MESSY: Community activist Rishi Pooran points out a huge section of Farewell Drive that was dug out while work was being undertaken on Townview Drive.
By Xpress Reporter
KwaDukuza Municipality is happy with an uneven road that has just been “rehabilitated” to the tune of R3.4 million! That is, if the response by the municipality's spokesperson Sipho Mkhize to media enquiries regarding this matter is anything to go by. The multi-million rand re-paving project has just been concluded last month. However the road still looks like it has been left derelict for centuries! Motorists are decidedly not impressed at all. And correctly so. The road in question is Townview Drive, which runs all the way up to Glenhills in Ward 13. Glenhills community activist Rishi Pooran took our reporter on an inspection in-loco last week, and our reporter's first (and second) reaction, was one of “absolute shock”. Millions of rands of ratepayers money appear to have been poured down the drain, literally so. At the intersection with Farewell Drive, a huge chunk of the road has been dug up. Pooran says the contractor dug up the road; and yes, you guessed right…..it was left unrepaired! “I've alerted the municipality's civil engineering department, and the executive director sent out someone to investigate. The guy that was sent over did not provide
any solutions. I was surprised when he told me that as human beings, everybody is allowed some errors. “Well, in my opinion, this is a very costly error, and at the ratepayers expense,” Pooran stated. However Mkhize has shifted the blame for the Farewell Drive fiasco to iLembe District Municipality. “Ilembe dug that section to repair their pipe that was leaking on the 15th of last month; job card was received to repair that road. It was about the same time that we were expecting Jamjo to start on site therefore it made sense to give that (task) to Jamjo to repair the area in question. Upon repairing it was discovered that the material had excessive water content and was heaving. This would have required the contractor to excavate, dispose the heaving material and import a new layer. This is now outside the scope of rehabilitation. It then needed a Cq to address that matter. SCM processing have been done we (are) now waiting for appointment but again it should be noted that based on inspection done yesterday, the pipe is still leaking,” Mkhize stated. So, there was no “human error” after all! And the mess that was made of the roadwork doesn't end there.

Up the road, well past Glenhills Primary School, about a thirty metre section on the left hand lane, the road takes a dangerous dip. This clearly makes for extremely hazardous driving conditions. Again, the contractor has left the site without re-doing this huge section. “Instead, the municipality decided to shift the speed hump from its original position under the street light, and erected it where the depression is more pronounced. My question is, who are they trying to protect?” Pooran said. Mkhize was once again ready with a rejoinder. “The intention was to erect it under a street light but it was too close to a drive way and the property owner complained. We then had (to) slightly move backwards the location of the speed hump,” he said. About the dangerous uneven road surface, Mkhize had this to say: “The uneven road that is being referred to, has been inspected a number of times by walking and driving over it. We haven't found anything that is making it for dangerous driving conditions keeping in mind that there is a speed hump that slows down traffic”. However motorists using the road do not seem to share Mkhize's sentiments.

Ramaphosa calls for efforts to dissuade Gaza escalation
President Cyril Ramaphosa is calling for greater efforts to dissuade the escalation of the latest deadly conflict in the Gaza Strip. This comes as Israeli security forces and Palestinian militant organisations continue to launch attacks against each, resulting in the death of hundreds of civilians, mainly on the Palestinian side. President Ramaphosa warned this week that unless the “illegal occupation of Palestinian land by Israel”, was addressed, there would never be peace in the region. He decried what he termed the denial of the right of Palestinian people to selfdetermination. “The sight of men, women and children being evicted from the homes their families have lived in for generations
DE-ESCALATION: President Cyril Ramaphosa is calling for de-escalation of hostilities in Palestine
brings back painful collective and personal memories for the majority of South Africans of forced
removals and land dispossession. “For all who believe in equality, justice and human
rights, we cannot but be moved and indeed angered, at the pain and humiliation being inflicted on the

Palestinian people; for it echoes our own. “Israel's actions are a violation of international law. They show a total disregard for successive United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions that call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian land and for the fulfilment of the rights of the Palestinian people,” Ramaphosa stated. The latest violence was sparked by an Israeli court decision to evict a group of families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in East Jerusalem to make way for Israeli settlements. According to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) at least 40 children have been killed in Gaza since 10 May. Over half of them were under 10 years old. “The senseless and continued Israeli bombardment of Gaza will have devastating consequences for more than two million people who have been suffering under an illegal Israeli blockade for 14 years. As is always the case,
it is civilians who will bear the brunt, with their homes and livelihoods destroyed. Every effort must be made to dissuade both sides from further escalation, and to end the violence that is causing fear, death and misery on both sides. We call on all parties involved to show restraint, to respect human life, and to cease the current hostilities,” stated President Ramaphosa. The president also reaffirmed the stance of the people of South Africa to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine in their quest for self-determination, and in their resistance against the deprivation of their human rights and the denial of their dignity. “As citizens of a country that was able to turn its back on race-hatred and bloodshed and build an inclusive society rooted in human rights for all, it is our collective hope that the people of Israel and Palestine will follow a similar path; that they will find each other, and that they will find peace,” he concluded.
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE WATER SERVICES BYLAWS NOTICE By Xpress Reporter
Umphumulo Hospital in Maphumulo is one of the first Covid-19 vaccination sites, as Phase 2 of the vaccine roll out begins this week. This was revealed by KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu SimelaneZulu, during a media briefing held on Sunday night to unpack details of the second phase of the vaccination which commenced on Monday. The briefing involved health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize as well as the health MECs from all provinces and their HODs. Simelane-Zulu said the department would be “scaling up” the vaccination programme before the end of this month, as more Pfizer vaccines become available. The second phase of the vaccine roll out will see the remaining healthcare workers being inoculated, and people over the age of 60 also being given the jab. The department is in the process of registering the elderly in order for them to be vaccinated. In this regard, more vaccination sites would be open. In a statement issued late last week, Cabinet, which has since approved the extension of National State of Disaster until the 15th of June 2021, called on people 60 years and above to register on the Covid-19 Electronic Vaccination Data System. “Cabinet was briefed about the slight increase in COVID-19 infections in the country and the application of necessary response measures to curb the spread. Cabinet reminds all South Africans to continue adhering to non-
pharmaceutical health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 of continuing to wear masks when in public; maintaining social distance of at least 1.5 metres; always wash hands with water and soap or use a 70% alcohol-based hand sanitiser; and avoiding unnecessary travel and stay home,” Cabinet said in a statement. People without online access or a smartphone can register through SMS by dialling *134*832*your ID number#. If you do not have an ID number, dial *134*832#. Registration can also be done through the COVID-19 WhatsApp number by sending “REGISTER” to 0600 123 456. Citizens must ensure they enter their correct cellphone number and residential address to be able to receive information on the vaccination programme, when necessary. Those with no access to technology, can also register at their nearest vaccination site or with the community health workers who will visit various communities. The registration is essential for people to participate in the vaccination programme and allow traceability for purposes of medical follow-up should such be required in the future. You do not need data or airtime to access the zero-rated SMS and WhatsApp registration services. Those who encounter challenges whilst registering can call the COVID-19 hotline: 0800 029 999.

Exceptional display by LTSF veterans The Lower Tugela Soccer Federation (LTSF) over 50 veterans' team, combining stalwarts from yesteryear was again displayed exceptional football skills when they participated in yet another tournament of veterans from other areas this past Saturday at the Buffelsdale grounds in tournament. There were six teams that participated and they were drawn into two groups of three teams each. LTSF were drawn into a group that comprised of Tongaat A and Durban combined. A spirit of great camaraderie once again prevailed throughout the tournament. Although displaying exceptional footballing skills, it was unfortunate that the local LTSF team failed to qualify from the group. In the first game, LTSF came up against Tongaat who beat LTSF via a penalty after their player handled the ball in the box. In their next group game they once again lost to Durban by a solitary goal. For a team that hasn't been training and playing together, LTSF Veterans were not embarrassed at all and did exceptionally well. The tournament was eventually won by Verulam.

the squad that shut down the club's training ground. Less than a week later, Guardiola's men travelled to Chelsea with just 15 senior players available due to positive cases. Despite the adversity, City produced to that point their best performance of the season, sweeping the Blues aside with three goals in the first 34 minutes.
Manchester City, 2020/21 Premier League champions
Manchester City are Premier League Champions for the fifth time in 10 seasons, underlining their status as the dominant side in English football. A third league title of Pep Guardiola's reign was anything but a foregone conclusion in the early months of a season like no other, played out almost entirely in empty stadiums because of the coronavirus pandemic. City stumbled in the early weeks of the campaign but found their groove in midDecember to streak clear of the chasing pack and wrap up the title with three games to spare.
defensive record in the Premier League. However, within 48 hours of the Foxes running amok at the Etihad, Ruben Dias arrived to end Guardiola's defensive woes. The Portugal centre-back not only brought his own mix of physical power and poise on the ball, but brought out the best in a revitalised John Stones as they formed a solid partnership. In the 10 Premier League games they started between December and February, City conceded just two inconsequential goals in taking a maximum 30 points to seize control of the title race.
home to West Brom. “I felt this is not the team I can recognise myself.” The Catalan went back to the drawing board with his staff, while captain Fernandinho called a crisis meeting among the squad. “We had to come back to our game, move the ball quicker, do more passes, stay in position, run less with the ball, do it together. We don't have a specific player to win games, we have to do it together,” Guardiola later added. A 21-game winning run followed to not only build a huge lead in the title race, but keep City on track for a treble.

Fortress Anfield falls Victory at Anfield was one of the few Premier League feats that had been achieved by City since the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008. Liverpool's title defence was already crumbling-after a 68game unbeaten at home in the league stretching back nearly four years, Brighton and Burnley both won at Anfield prior to City's visit. City did not just end an 18year wait for a league victory at Liverpool but did so emphatically with a 4-1 win thanks to a combination of sumptuous attacking play and two huge errors from Red's goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Man United feel the pressure Liverpool's capitulation left Manchester United as the only contenders t stop City, But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men felt the pressure as soon as they became title contenders. A 2-1 win at Fulham on January 20 took the Red Devils top of the table, although City had a game in hand to overturn a two-point deficit.

Pitso Mosimane, manager of Al Ahly applauds fans after victory over Sundowns
Pitso Mosimane walked off with the bragging rights and an early advantage as his Ah Ahly side recorded a 2-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in a CAF Champions League quarter-final clash in Cairo on Saturday. Sundowns started the game brightly and held large portions of possession in the opening stages of the first-half. Al Ahly though, showed that they possess quality and carry a constant threat as they scored against the run of play in the 23rd minute through Taher Mohamed. The attacker collected a diagonal ball on the left flank before bending a long-range strike into the far top corner. Sundowns again started the second-half the stronger side and were unfortunate not to grab an equaliser as Al Ahly goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy pulled off two impressive saves. The home side then doubled their lead late in the half in the 89th minute as Shalabi took advantage of a Dennis Onyango mistake to give the Egyptian Red Devils an important first-leg win.
