ANC celebrates 105th year in existence Continued from page 1 majority of whom are poor and marginalized,” said Zikalala. The troubled ANC looks to mend its broken walls following a surprise defeat in some of the metros at the hands of the opposition parties in last year's Local Government Elections. “We urge our branches everywhere, even those in the farming communities, to remain vigilant and continue to be very vocal about incidents of abuse and violation of human rights. We also call on all of you comrades to continue exposing those who perpetually try to reverse the gains we have made in our pursuit to achieve nonracialism and a just society,” said Zikalala, explaining the importance of remaining unified against others parties and 'rotten potatoes' within the ANC. Jacob Zuma had only arrived to 'listen' but after a plea from the crowd, he made a

statement and thanked the ANC supporters for their continued support for the party and acknowledged that there is a lot that needs to be done in order for the party to regain trust from the people. “ANC is a tried and tested organisation that has faced many difficult challenges in its life and succeeded. The ANC is aware of challenges within the party at branch level and these will be remedied,” said Zuma, before concluding his short address by saying that party members must put the ANC above all else and alienate those who seek to drive a wedge among comrades. Furthermore; this rally was also used as a platform to celebrate the life of local ANC stalwart, Chief Albert Luthuli since it has been 50 years since his mysterious death; General Gizenga Mpanza; King Shaka ka Dinizulu and O. R Tambo, whom the ANC dedicated the whole of 2017 to.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: President Jacob Zuma accompanied by his wife Gloria Ngema-Zuma and their entourage arriving in KwaDukuza.

KwaDukuza echoed this notion by saying, “The visit is in line with keeping with the DA commitment to a two state solution, where Israel and Palestine exist side by side. As the DA places itself as an alternate government and winning the hearts and minds of more South Africans it is imperative to work with more international Leaders across the world. We have a constitutionally protected right to freedom of movements and cannot be

dictated by ANC foreign policy. The right to freedom of movement, Freedom of association is enshrined in the South African Constitution. Too many times lately the Democratic Alliance and its leaders are being hamstrung in their efforts to engage on a global basis with other democratically elected entities and organs of state.” Attempts to get a comment from the ANC in our region yielded no results.

Leaders of the Democratic Alliance and African National Congress have crossed swords once again, this time following DA leader Mmusi Maimane's visit to Israel. This was followed by a statement issued by the ruling party saying “The ANC together with other progressive organizations and forces are not surprised by the DA's visit to Israel and to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. At a time RESTAURANT when the world is & TAKE-AWAY increasingly standing up against Israel's illegal Special Pakistani dishes prepared on a traditional charcoal fire settlements, including STANGER: 93 Chief Albert Luthuli Street • Tel: 032 551 5136 / Cell : 083 439 7709 the United Nations Full 1 Full Chicken Security Council, it is a Tikka Burger + Chips Chicken with Salad/ pity that the DA is ONLY Sauce / Roti’s endorsing the Israeli regime instead of condemning its violations of • Bombay Crush • Kheer • Soji NOW INSTOCK international law”. According to the ANC, the DA's visit to the State of Israel has fueled allegations that the official opposition party is funded and controlled by 'Apartheid Israel sympathizers' seems to be true. On the other side of the coin, the DA said Mmusi Maimane “Went there (Israel) to discuss how South Africa can play a more constructive role in bringing the parties together (Palestine and Israel) for peace. He also went there, as a person of deep faith, to visit some of the most important holy places that are of spiritual meaning to him” Councillor Madhun EACH Singh of the DA in

Not all doom and gloom in Ilembe Municipality This is my first ever letter to the editor but I feel compelled to write this as I hope it will help other people in the community. I was without water for 5 days as my account was under query due to a burst water pipe. Because the account was under query I was not paying my water bill which was totally wrong on my part as I should have paid some amount. Hence, I was blocked from purchasing water. At Spar, I was told that I was blocked, and met a 71-year-old lady who is living with her son. She was also blocked, and told me that when she went to Ilembe, she was told to pay 30% of the bill, which amounted to R3200. She did not have the money, hence she had no water for 12 days and was still blocked. On Monday, 9 January 2017, I went to see Mr Ravi Vallan. As usual, he was totally professional and caring. However, my query was still on hold and he asked me to go upstairs to see someone in higher management. I met a lady in the foyer, and with a warm and pleasant smile she asked, “How can I help you?” It turned out that she was the Municipal Manager, Nonhlanhla Gumede. I explained my situation to her and she listened, even though she has such a busy schedule. It was clear to me that this lady was passionate about her job and was willing to go the extra mile to help the people of Ilembe. What is important is that she informed me that people can come to Ilembe and make a payment plan even though they don't have the 30%. She then took me to the Manager of Revenue, Desmond Gumede, who was a total professional and went out of his way to help me make a payment plan. If the 71-year-old lady I met is reading this, please go to Ilembe and they will help you. What I have learnt from this experience is that we are at times negative and say negative things about Ilembe without engaging with them. I received totally professional service, even from Sonto Sibiya, a Credit Control Clerk. Those of you who are blocked, go see them, they are there to help you. Yashin Tewary Playsport 365

Proteas equipped for life after Abbott Their success may have come on a Wanderers strip that made batting extremely difficult, but the performances of Wayne Parnell and Duanne Olivier in the third Test against Sri Lanka suggested that the Proteas have enough in the barrel to move on from Kyle Abbott. Parnell picked up match figures of 6/89 while Olivier, on debut, went home with 5/57 to show for his efforts. When one considers that Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel are also on the mend and expected to return at some stage, then the immediate future of South African

fast bowling looks bright. There is no doubt that the loss of Abbott hurt and he was at the top of his game when news broke of his Kolpak deal with Hampshire, but that blow opened up a couple of new opportunities that were taken with open arms this past weekend. The entire build-up to the third Test had been marred by Kolpak deals - Rilee Rossouw and David Wiese also confirmed that they would be leaving South Africa and South African cricket needed a boost. It came in the form of 16 wickets in one day as the Proteas secured a 3-0 series win over Sri

Lanka on Saturday. The strength of the opposition combined with the favourable conditions will ensure that nobody gets too carried away, but the all-seam attack of Parnell, Olivier, Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander was exciting. Domingo, like skipper Faf du Plessis, was very impressed with what he had seen from Parnell and Olivier. Steyn's recovery, meanwhile, is on track and he is still expected to be available for the Test matches in England in July while Morkel is still recovering from his back injury.
