ILembe welcomes corporate culture launch ILembe District Municipality launched Corporate Culture concurrently with a Prayer with its councillors and officials last week Thursday 7 March, with the objectives to improve work ethics and prayer following consistent deaths that occur at this Municipality. The iLembe District Municipality saw the need for the event with the intention to inspire and boost the morale in order to deal with forms of emotional and psychological trauma due to this unfortunate situation that is currently facing the municipality, and improvement of work ethic, dedication and commitment. The purpose of the event was unpacked by iLembe Municipal manager, Mr Geoffrey Kumalo. He said corporate culture is a good strategy that will instil Batho Pele principles among municipal officials and councillors.
“In order to fulfil the municipal vision we are obliged to share values, attitudes, standards, and beliefs that characterize members of this organisation and define its nature. Institutionalisation of corporate culture is not an event but it must be in our blood system,” said Kumalo. In her welcoming remarks, Deputy Mayor of iLembe District Municipality, Cllr Dolly Shandu took to the podium and told attendees that the municipal vision cannot be fulfilled without prayer. “As we are one big family, prayer must be held quarterly to reignite our commitment and work ethics in order to deliver our core function services to iLembe citizenry,” said Shandu. The roll of honour which was conducted by Manager of Human Resources, Mr Ntokozo Nzuza in respect of those employees who passed away was followed by a
prayer item. Prayer and the word of God was conducted by Inter-faith religions, namely, Islam prayer by Faruki Mohammed and Christianity prayer by Pastor Thanda Zulu. The Inter-faith religions prayed for peace and stability in the country, social ills, prosperity through effective and efficient work ethics, and free and fair national and provincial elections. The second session of the event was the launch of corporate culture. His Worship the Mayor of iLembe District Municipality Cllr Siduduzo Gumede congratulated significant improvement in service delivery since the year 2016. He further emphasised cooperation and good governance amongst managers. “As the municipality has launched the corporate culture, a
committee must be established and perform duties impartial and with no fear. The committee must help the employees become engaged in the process, and create strategies to implement and embed ethics at work,” said Mayor Gumede. The last session of the event was the signing of the Service Charter by three parties which are municipal Unions leaders, South African Municipal Union (SAMWU) and Independent Municipal Trade Union (IMATU)), political leadership - Mayor of
iLembe Cllr Siduduzo Gumede and Management - Municipal Manger, Geoffrey Kumalo. The Service Charter seeks to improve service delivery programmes, reinforce the partner's commitment to service delivery improvement for the benefit of all citizens, enhance performance, ensure effective, efficient and responsive municipalities, professionalise and encourage excellence in local government, clarify the rights and obligations of each of the parties.

South Africans should brace themselves for further fuel price increases in April, says the Automobile Association (AA) commenting on unaudited mid-month fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund. The AA said: "The projected basic fuel price increase is being billed as 98 cents for petrol, 70 cents for diesel and 63 cents for illuminating paraffin." Increases to the fuel levies will push the prices at the pumps even higher when they come into effect in April. "With the addition of the increases to the levies, our outlook for April sees petrol increasing by R1.18 a litre, and diesel by 90 cents a litre. There are no levies added to illuminating paraffin," said the AA.

ANC engages with locals in ward 20 By Thokozani Mnguni
Provision of RDP houses, access to education, improvement of existing infrastructure and job creation were the talking points at Etete Hall, on Friday 16 March when the African National Congress in the General Gizenga Mpanza Region engaged with residents. The meeting was part of the party's trail campaigns for the upcoming General Elections. In the vanguard it was the acting chairperson in the region, Khonzuyise Ngidi, accompanied by deputy secretary of the ANC in the province, Sipho Hlomuka and other regional officials. Ngidi cited that the rejuvenated ANC has made its mission to eradicate corruption in all government departments and urged the fully packed hall to put their trust in the party. “The work that has been done by the ANC is visible but we recognise that we still have a long way ahead of us, therefore we urge you all to vote ANC in May. As leaders that represent progressive movement we commit ourselves to the upliftment of the lives of our people,” said Ngidi.
Standard Bank to close 91 branches Last week Standard Bank issued a statement saying that a total of 91 branches will be closed as the bank opts for a digital banking offering for consumers. The vast majority of these branches will be closed by June 2019. Approximately 1200 jobs at Standard Bank will be impacted, “These changes will impact approximately 1200 jobs. Ngidi stressed that ANC lingers to grow each day, despite relentless criticism from opposition parties, and that they're confident that the ANC will prevail in the upcoming elections. “The ANC has strong faith in South African people and we pledge to speed up the process of service delivery,” concluded Ngidi. Present to support the campaign, ANC deputy secretary in KZN Sipho Hlomuka mentioned that people are the pillars of the ANC and it's imperative to vote ANC in the election in order for the party to keep on

Outraged residents alleged that the ANC has failed to accommodate the elderly residents who were part of the liberation struggle during apartheid. In conclusion, residents applauded when it was announced that phase 2 of Etete Housing Project is at implementation stage. The party apologised for the delay, saying they were waiting for a go ahead from the province.

Celebrating Human Rights Day
SOUTH AFRICA: Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on 21 March
By Xpress Reporter MEETING: Smiso Dlamini speaking to the fully packed town hall during the ward delimitation education and awareness meeting last week.
By Xpress Reporter
KwaDukuza Municipality in partnership with Municipal Demarcation Board held a ward delimitation education and awareness meeting at KwaDukuza Town Hall on 13 March 2019. The main purpose of the meeting was to inform, empower and make aware MDB stakeholders and members of the public about the ward
delimitation process towards the 2021 local government elections. Unpacking the process of ward demarcation, Smiso Dlamini cited that every five years, the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) delimits wards in metropolitan and local municipalities for electoral purposes prior to the delimitation of wards. “The MDB encourages full participation of everyone
during the ward delimitation process. The MDB will appreciate the support during the ward delimitation process. The success of MDB's work is dependent on efficient collaboration with all stakeholders including municipalities, provincial departments, responsible for local government, traditional leadership, political parties and members of the public,” said Dlamini.
South Africans commemorate Human Rights Day annually on 21 March in honour of the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in our country. This day is an opportunity to reflect on progress made in the promotion and protection of human rights. The aim of this day is to promote respect for human rights, promote the protection, development and attainment of human rights, and to monitor and
assess the observance of human rights in South Africa. On 21 March 1960, the community of Sharpeville and Langa townships, like their fellow compatriots across the country, embarked on a protest march against pass laws. Campaigners gathered at police stations in t o w n s h i p s n e a r Johannesburg where they were dispersed by police. At the Sharpeville police station a scuffle broke out. Part of a wire fence was trampled, allowing the crowd to move forward. The police opened fire,
apparently without having been given a prior order to do so. Sixty-nine people were killed and 180 wounded. In apartheid South Africa this day became known as Sharpeville Day. The democratic government declared March 21 Human Rights Day to commemorate and honour those who fought for our liberation and the rights we enjoy today. We commemorate Human Rights Day to reinforce our commitment to the Bill of Rights as enshrined in our Constitution.

Public notice Water quality out of range notification Please note that Umgeni Water is currently experiencing challenges with the package plant at the Maphumulo waterworks which is compromising the final water quality at the plant. Umgeni is unable to meet the agreed turbidity Standard of 1 Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU) for the Maphumulo system. Initial assessments undertaken at package plant indicated that the possible cause is the high raw water turbidity combined with the high algae counts currently present in the raw water being abstracted from the Imvutshane Dam. It must be noted that the package plant process cannot

effectively treat raw water turbidity currently being experienced due to inherent limited processing capability. The plant is currently producing final water at a turbidity that is averaging between 1 and 3 NTU. The main plant's final turbidity is currently within the SANS 241 range i.e. 1 NTU, which indicates no abnormality. Umgeni is currently in the process of investigating the package plant processes in terms of further optimisation to achieve the required SANS standard. Please note that the failure for turbidity is currently not a health risk

Terror attack on two mosques in New Zealand The death toll in the New Zealand mosque shootings rose to 50 on Sunday after police found another victim at one of the mosques, and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said bodies of those killed would begin to be released to families for burial. Australian Brenton Tarrant (28), a suspected white supremacist,

killed 50 people and wounded more than 30 during Friday prayers at two New Zealand mosques in the country's worst ever mass shooting which Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern condemned as terrorism. Thirty-one injured victims remained at Christchurch Hospital on Monday, where officials said nine were in critical condition. A four-year-old girl at a children's hospital in Auckland also remains critical. The gunman broadcast live footage on Facebook of the attack
on one mosque in the city of Christchurch, mirroring the carnage played out in video games, after publishing a "manifesto" in which he denounced immigrants. Tarrant was charged with murder on Saturday. He was remanded without a plea and is due back in court on April 5 where police said he was likely to face more charges. Friday's attack was the worst ever peacetime mass killing in New Zealand and the country had raised its security threat level to the highest.

Condolences to families of NZ terror attack First and foremost, with a heavy heart; we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre terror attacks in New Zealand that died during prayer on Friday, 15 March 2019 at the hands of the Australian terrorist and white supremacist, Brenton Tarrant. The heinous and demonic series of acts perpetrated by this individual resulted in 50 fatalities and scores of New Zealanders being injured as well. This death penalty deserving act needs to be punishable to the maximum extent that the law permits. We must remember Abdul Aziz, a father of four, who confronted the terrorist and hailed as a hero. Pakistan is set to bestow a governmental award in his honour. Cllr Vernon Pillay KwaDukuza

Diet, Exercise and Sleep For years your doctor, your mom and your friend who goes to the gym multiple times a week have probably been telling you to eat better and exercise more. It's all you hear on television, in the newspapers and on talk radio. New doctors and dieticians usher in new diets, new fads, and so you've made some lifestyle changes cutting back on your fat and sweets intake, and doing some cardiovascular exercise a few days a week. Despite all this, you still feel burned out, can't drop those extra pounds, and don't have the energy to greet each day with enthusiasm. What are you missing? The third piece of the puzzle: sleep Though the exact mechanisms of how sleep works, how sleep rejuvenates the body and mind is still mysterious, one thing sleep specialists and scientists do know is that adequate sleep is necessary for healthy functioning. Research shows that all mammals need sleep, and that sleep regulates mood and is related to learning and memory functions. Not only will getting your zzzs help you perform on a test, learn a new skill or help you stay on task, but it may also be a critical factor in your health, weight and energy level. Sleep problems and obesity: interacting epidemics Millions of people have sleep apnea, a sleeprelated breathing disorder that leads individuals to repeatedly stop breathing during sleep. Not only does sleep apnea seriously affect one's quality of KWADUKUZA YOUTH ORGANISATION (KYO)

sleep, but it can also lead to health risks such as stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure and excessive daytime sleepiness. Sleep apnea is often associated with people who are overweight weight gain leads to compromised respiratory function when an individual's trunk and neck area increase from weight gain. These interacting problems of weight gain and sleep apnea make it difficult to help oneself off the slippery slope of health problems. From a behavioral perspective, those suffering from sleep apnea may be less motivated to diet or exercise daytime sleepiness lowers their energy levels and makes it difficult to commit to an exercise and/or diet program which would improve both their weight and sleep apnea. Sleep deprivation may also inhibit one's ability to lose weight even while exercising and eating well! Getting in shape: how sleep and exercise do a body good Though research shows that exercise is certainly good for one's body and health, properly timing exercise is necessary to maximize the beneficial effects. For example, a good workout can make you more alert, speed up your metabolism and energize you for the day ahead, but exercise right before bedtime can lead to a poor night's sleep. All the jumping jacks in the world won't make up for a night of tossing and turning! Sleep experts recommend exercising at least three hours before bedtime, and the best time is usually late afternoon. Diet and sleep: a healthy helping of the right stuff Are you someone who needs a fresh cup of java to coax you out of bed in the morning? Or perhaps you prefer an afternoon jolt from the cola vending machine? Or maybe you're more the candy bar type in any case, you're not alone. In fact, lack of sleep creates a vicious cycle the more tired you are, the more caffeine you'll consume to stay awake during the day; but the more caffeine you consume, the harder it'll be to fall asleep at night. For those individuals who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), commonly known as acid reflux, diet and sleep go hand-in-hand. Those individuals with GERD often suffer from nighttime heartburn, and are more likely to report having symptoms of sleep problems/disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, daytime sleepiness and restless legs syndrome than those who don't have nighttime heartburn. Food is also related to sleep by appetite and metabolism. This link between appetite and sleep provides further evidence that sleep and obesity are linked. What it all means: how diet, sleep and exercise affect you By now you probably realize that health is complex if one part of the body system suffers, you're likely to see consequences in other areas of your life. Though diet and exercise are critical components of healthy lifestyles, it's also important to remember that sleep is inherently linked with how we eat (and how much), how we exercise (and whether or not we lose weight), and how we function on a daily basis. Getting the proper amount of sleep each night is necessary to face the world with your best foot forward. Sleep will help you on the road to good fitness, good eating and good health.

There was an overwhelming response to the Basa (Baptist Association of South Africa) youth concert at the Stanger Manor Baptist Church park on Friday night with more than 300 people attending the event. Glenhills Revival Church, Manor Baptist, Jehovah Shalom, Philadelphia, Risecliffe of Chatsworth, Saints Cornerstone and Shakaskraal enthralled the crowd with a variety of gospel songs. Mikhayla of Tinley Manor wooed the audience with her scintillating dance moves on the stage. The skits performed by Stanger Baptist youth and Manor were of a very high standard. Guest artist Darrien Samuel of Chatsworth, who is expected to release his album next month, had the crowd roaring for more with a rendition of two of his songs from the album.

World Oral Health Day (WOHD) is a far-reaching global oral health campaign. It is a platform for the public, oral health community, and policymakers to help reduce the overall oral disease burden. WOHD is celebrated on 20 March every year; the day was first declared by FDI in 2007 and first officially celebrated in 2013. It is the culmination of a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness on the prevention and control of oral diseases. It is an international day to promote good oral health for everyone and empower individuals to maintain a healthy mouth at all ages. Why celebrate World Oral Health Day? Most people will suffer from an oral condition in their lifetimes. Many of these conditions can be avoided with increased awareness, support, and funding for prevention, detection and treatment programmes, which is what World Oral Health Day is all about. FDI encourages all member National Dental Associations, governments, non-governmental organizations, media and other entities to participate in WOHD to develop community, national, regional, and global activities to improve oral health.

THANKS ALOT MAMA ALISHA I am Salashnee from Shakaville Stanger. I’m here to thank Mama Alisha for helping me sell my property at a reasonable price. I was a proud Mother of 3 kids and was happily married. But my life turned upside down in 2014 when I lost all my 3 kids and their father in a road accident. I survived because I was at work that day. Since then I have panic attacks, My families memories were killing me and I decided to sell the house in 2015. Many people used to call come see the house but they don’t come back up to when I went to MAMA ALISHA after reading about her in the newspaper. She came to the house , blessed it and told me she will do the rest at her place of work. I was surprised when just in two weeks a buyer was found and I was given a reasonable amount of money.
