SOCIAL CRIME: Penny Dhaver who is Senior Social Work Manager of Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza says there is a need for awareness and crime prevention programmes
By Xpress Reporter
C
ommunity stalwart and well known Stangerite, Penny Dhaver and her parents became the latest victim in an alleged syndicate armed robbery that happened in her Oceanview residence on Monday, 9 September 2013 at around 7:35am. According to Dhaver two black youths entered her family's premises by climbing over the fence. “At 7:30 am my dad opened the gate for the domestic worker. The domestic worker spotted the two intruders in our carport hiding behind my Dad's car. She screamed as she saw them armed with a knife and a gun,” said Dhaver. Dhaver, the Senior Social Work Manager of the Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza added that one intruder had a knife whilst the other brandished a firearm. Penny's father allegedly took on the assailant with the firearm when
divine intervention occurred. “My dad tried to fight them when one of the criminals fired the gun at my dad but the gun jammed. “My dad was pushed and he sustained serious head injuries. He was lying in a pool of blood while I stood terrified,” said Dhaver. With her Dad semi- conscious the assailants moved onto her mother and then pointed the firearm at both Dhaver and her mom. Her Mom's rings were forcibly removed by the youth. “The other criminal went into my bedroom and stole money from my wallet. This made these criminals go away,” she said. As they were leaving they allegedly banged the door on Dhaver's hand, injuring her. According to Sooraj Maharaj from K9 Security, they managed to apprehend one of the suspects after KwaDukuza SAPS interrogation of the first suspect, which they allegedly apprehended, gave up his syndicate partner.

“The suspect my officers apprehended was wanted for seven counts of house breaking in the Oceanview and Stanger Manor areas.” The K9 Security Team apprehended the one of the assailants that attacked Penny and her family on the same Monday evening. Penny Dhaver said: “We are living in a dangerous community. We are not safe in our own homes. The community needs to beware of these criminals and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves from these sadistic criminals.” “I would like to thank the KwaDukuza SAPS, K9 Security Services and my neighbours for their support and assistance. There is a need for awareness and crime prevention programmes in t h e c o m m u n i t y, ” s a i d Dhaver.

Helpful youth A patrolling police officer was surprised by what he found when he was stopped by a group of youths in the Newtown area. It is alleged that they had apprehended a youth who had four multi-plugs valued at R327.00 in his possession and was unable to give a reasonable explanation as to how he came to be in possession of the plugs. The group decided to take him to the police station when the patrolling officers arrived. The plugs did have a shop-tag on them and this will assist in follow-up investigations. Eugene Ngidi (33) was granted bail and is due back at court on 8 November.
Not so innocent Sandile Buthelezi of Shayamoya area near Glenhills claims he became the victim of a person claiming to be a victim. Sandile alleges that he was approached by the man who was in the company of another person. The culprit questioned him about a chain for sugar cane and began to assault him. As he still denied knowledge of the chain, the culprit took him to his house where he continued to beat him up with a large knob-kerrie causing injuries all over his body. Innocent Sthuli Zulu (25) is due before court on 21 October.
A dagga party Police acting on a tip-off approached a house at Groutville on Sunday morning. They found several youths on the premises enjoying a midmorning dagga party. The owner of the house was identified and the house was thoroughly searched. They found a container with 60 parcels of dagga as well as rizla paper and a pipe used for smoking dagga. Vincent Khumalo (28), a cleaner at Groutville clinic, admitted to selling the drug to earn an extra income. He was granted bail of
Money and shebeens Babo Manqele's lust for beer has left him swollen faced. Babo alleges he went to a local shebeen at Groutville on Saturday evening. A large group of revelers had gathered and he spotted an old friend from whom he had borrowed money. An argument broke out and he was allegedly head-butted and had a glass tumbler smashed into the side of his face causing multiple lacerations according to the doctor's report. Eric Mduduzi Gumede (38) is expected in court on 22 October in connection with the attack.

ZERO TOLERANCE: Seen are the members of the Crime Prevention unit who send out a stern warning that drug dealing will not be tolerated
A real headache Three men appeared in court last week on a charge of theft. Paul Mthetwa alleges that he and a group of friends returned home after a booze party at about 3am. Later that morning when he finally awoke, he found his Samsung Tablet missing. The friend who was responsible for taking the tablet, Siyabonga Mntambo (21) pointed out Sakhile Mpanza (25) as the person he sold the item to. Mpanza pointed out Amir Majeed (38) as the person he sold the tablet to for R1200. All three culprits were charged and are due back at court on 27 September.
The KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Crime Prevention Unit held numerous 'stop-and-search' operations last week. The team targeted Ntshawini, Groutville, Charlottdale, Gledhow and KwaDukuza railway stations and recovered a total of 110g of dagga on Thursday, 12 September 2013. On Wednesday, 11 September, a female was arrested for being in possession of 31 parcels of dagga at the KwaDukuza taxi rank. Members also recently held a stop-and-search at the Gledhow intersection. The driver of a white Mazda LDV was arrested and charged for being in possession of 115 straws of whoonga.
KDM Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu commended the men behind the operation, saying that the unit is sending a message that it is now intensifying its action against crime. “The successful arrests speak of the fact that we are ready for an organized programme that will intensify such operations in a bid to curb illegal substance abuse,” he said.

KDM launches education campaign to bolster standards
By Xpress Reporter
Four KwaDukuza schools have entered the quality L e a r n i n g a n d Te a c h i n g Campaign in a drive to improve the standard of education. The Department of Education together with the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) launched the programme at Shakaville (Ward 18) following concerns on the perceived discrepancies existing between learners, educators and parents. The schools that have been prioritized by the Department in KwaDukuza include Ts h e l e n k o s i S e c o n d a r y, Mavivane and Mbozamo Primary. The programme will help to ensure that there are clear

communication lines between educators, learners and parents.
KDM Mayor, Councillor NR Mthembu has welcomed the
programme, applauding the Department of Education (DoE) for its relentless efforts to ensure that learners in KwaDukuza receive the best that government has to offer. “An education which lacks the parent-educator involvement is the heart of failure in this institution. As a local sphere of government, education has been our key function and it is our duty to ensure that we go the extra mile to ensure that the work of government in this country is of the highest standard,” said Mthembu. Mthembu believes that the programme will have a positive spin-off for the rest of the schools in KwaDukuza. “If we work together, this
campaign would bring about a total reform in the institution of education and has a potential of becoming a runaway success in the future of education in KwaDukuza,” he said. Ward 18 Councillor, Pinkie Mdletshe-Mbambo emphasises the need to strengthen the weak links in education. “We need to strengthen the relation between the learner, parent and teachers. We hope this campaign will usher in a new dawn of quality education, we cannot say it's game over for some of the disruptive things that have been destabilizing education in these schools but we have to subject the programme to yield positive results for a prosperous society,” she said.

Dstv has launched its new PVR decoder, the Explora, which offers a number of improvements, enhancements and welcome tweaks over its predecessors, even if it isn't a revolutionary new technology. First off is the improvement that all PVR users will appreciate is the extra space. The Explora has a 2TB hard drive which is capable of recording 220 hours of high-definition television, or 150 series episodes or 100 movies. The extra space also means DStv is able to offer more within its on-demand service. A cool spin-off of the increased capacity is a "series-stacking" option within Catch Up, (a facility that will allow you to literally catch-up with episodes that may have been missed) which makes two episodes of a series available within the same time frame. A selection of up to 30 movies will also be available via this on-demand service. The Box Office selection is also getting a boost, with up to 20 new release titles available. The Explora will allow subscribers to access certain additional features in future, including online content. The user interface has also changed. The Explora is available at the Manees stores at a special price of R2, 399 and the HD PVR decoder will also be sold at a special price of R1, 399 (includes a FREE DSTV Walka). All customers are welcome to view the Coconut Explora at our Ushaka Mall store for a demonstration. All specials start this Saturday, 21 September 2013 and runs until the 21 October 2013.

Two minute management course Lesson One An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing?" The eagle answered: "Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit, and ate it. Management Lesson - To be sitting doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up. Lesson Two A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy." "Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree. Management Lesson Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there. Lesson Three A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold; the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realise how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him. Management Lessons - (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy. (2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend. (3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

To spank or not to spank? discipline begins at a tender age at home by parents, who themselves went through the process. I believe that we should lead by example so that we can avoid crucial problems at a later stage. Having said that, given the track record of our government, how can they be in any position to instruct us on discipline? All those scandals they're involved in (Gupthagate, The Manase Report, Nkandlagate, the controversial Arms deal, the extravagant, decadent lifestyle of ministers, other unsavoury actions)is enough evidence to show us that they are not qualified to tell the community(us ordinary mortals) how to run our households. If one goes back a few years ago, it was this very government that took away corporal punishment from schools and on the extreme end, abolished the death penalty. I am a firm believer in the maxim, 'Spare the rod and spoil the child.' Just look at how our young people have turned out! It is a common characteristic in schools today to have youngsters carrying knives, guns, drugs and other dangerous weapons. Every parent should
understand that disciplining children, ensuring healthy, children is a God- given right, wholesome habits. Rules and a n d a l l m a j o r r e l i g i o n s guidelines must be set and acknowledge this. I think we all children should be reminded grew up receiving the good, old- when they get out of hand. The fashioned hiding in our own manner in which a parent homes. My view is that if a child chooses to discipline his child is refuses to listen and does things his decision. There are other which are distasteful, then he methods that can work, but d e s e r v e s a h i d i n g . spanking is very effective, Unfortunately today, parents because the maxims, 'a burnt have to come down to a level child dreads the fire' and 'once where they have to reason with bitten, twice shy' still triumph. If children as a way of finding you have reared your children punishment. It seems that the without any form of punishment parent and child have become and you are proud of the end equal. The end result is that result, then accolades to you. many children have grown up My view is that government has without showing respect and no right to interfere in what goes find it awkward to fit into a on in our homes. They must normal society. I'm not for one apply very strict disciplinary moment suggesting that we beat methods to all the crooks that are the child so badly, up to the point simply siphoning the economy of serious injury or death. Nor with their excessive, profligate are we supposed to leave any lifestyle. Our country would marks on them. That is ABUSE have been much better if some and I will personally report the members in cabinet would have incident to the authorities if I been given a few hard smacks come across such a case. when they were young! I'm not condoning physical abuse but I'm concerned about Keep your thoughts flowing the rate at which discipline is and the letters rolling waning. With Samuli Powder TRUE STORY
Vanessa (40) - Musgrave. We would like to inform the world that it really works as we won the money in Suncoast casino using Mama Madina’s Samuli powder . We first heard about Mama Madina last year but we couldn’t believe it first until last month when our aunt went to her and her life changed after she won a lot of jack pots at suncoast casino. My husband and I were very deep in debts our house was almost going away by the banks our cars were already repossessed, so we decided to try Mama Madina’s Samuli powder we booked an appointment and went to her. She charged us and read out our fortune, we were so surprised when she told us every thing, she even touched the days we met and the reason why we were failing in life. She prayed for us and gave us the samuli powder to use. We began by playing the machines and later went to the tables. Everyone was looking at us. We were winning, we won a lot in the casino. Now that we have money our lives have changed. We paid of our debts bought a new house and now we opening new businesses. We testify out of our faith that Mama Madina has served us all in our family, she is God sent. We regard her as our family mother. Our children are back to good schools. If you are in the same situation don't waste time and money on others just go to Mama Madina she will change your life.

In response to letter that appeared in a local paper I have dealt with the ladies of the Telkom KwaDukuza office for over 10 years now and as of yet no problems have been encountered on my part. Believe it or not, my favourite person there is Seetha to the extent that I only wait when she is available. When I read the article in the local newspaper, I was shocked when I saw Seetha's name. I want to highlight how efficient and helpful she is. When I wanted internet for my daughter, Seetha explained to me in layman's language what was best for my family and saved me hundreds of rands. I am grateful for her advice when I needed cellphone contract upgrades over the years. Because of her I took a Blackberry when I was scared to get one. I want to give a big thank you to the ladies of Telkom KwaDukuza on a job well done. Continue the excellent work.

PSL weekend round up By Xpress Reporter
SuperSport United saw their 100 percent winning record come to an end over the weekend, while surprise team AmaZulu jumped to second on the Absa Premiership log following the latest round of action. Matsatsantsa were held to a 1-1 draw and were denied the chance to make it four wins out of four this season by Mpumalanga Black Aces. AmaZayoni looked on course for even more at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit after Mabhuti Khenyeza (45) had put them
ahead in first-half stoppage time. David Mathebula earned the visitors a point 11 minutes from time when he headed in a Mame Niang's flick on the draw moving Cavin Johnson's side to 10 points. Usuthu were now just a point back after they inflicted a first defeat on Moroka Swallows in Durban. Bongani Ndulula's crisp finish after 23 minutes was enough for the hosts to claim a 1-0 win at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs claimed victories that moved them up to fourth and fifth respectively. The
Students, another club that had played a game fewer than the leading pair beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0 on Friday night with Robin Ngalande (51) scoring the only goal. At FNB Stadium on Saturday, goals from Knowledge Musona (37) and George Lebese (75) gave Stuart Baxter's under-fire side a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United. Platinum Stars, one of just four sides yet to be beaten this term along with SuperSport, Sundowns and Wits, are in seventh spot after a third draw of the campaign at eighth placed
Free State Stars. University of Pretoria and Lamontville Golden Arrows were up to ninth and 11th respectively sandwiching Aces after both won for the first time in 2013/14. In the capital, debut goals from Geoffrey Massa (16) and Atusaye Nyondo (18) saw Tuks to a 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic. Further north, Philane Shange (62) and a Thanduyise Khuboni (70) penalty helped Golden Arrows outgun Polokwane City 2-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium with Prince Hlela (80) scoring a consolation goal.

Many years back before I meet this powerful spiritual Maam Rashim, there was no happiness in my life because my husband cheated on me. In fact he later separated from me too & left the Sandile & his wife kids with me to suffer, I visited priests, gurus & healers for help. (4 days after prayers) Money was wasted without any results. Luckily I saw testimonials on a local TV station about another man whose son Maam Rashim had saved from drugs & alcohol abuse. I paid R200 for consultation. He accurately read my fortune & told me all my problems without me mentioning a word. He even used a mirror to show me real-faces of people who were trying to pull me down. Maam Rashim performed a special prayer for me, cleansed me from bad-luck and also gave me powerful love-crystals plus a special ring (to fix my financial problems) Four (4) days after prayers my husband was back home asking for forgiveness. Am happy we are in love again after 5 years. Like me all my friends I have been referring to him also got guaranteed results in few days. Contact Maam Rashim

of time that saw KSST the game slip through their fingers. With the 2013 Champions Cup a few days away the question on the KSST fans' minds is how well is their favourite team's preparation for this year's national show piece. Sounding out a few people in the know this newspaper was reliably informed that the team has made a weekly journey to an indoor venue in Durban to be coached by Zain Ally, an FIVB Level 2 coach who has a proud record of notching up several wins at national competitions especially at the school and provincial levels.

Among the men's contenders for the lucrative purse is Stanger youngsters, KSST who can boast of a creditable 4th place in the 2012 Champions Cup in the Mother City. Eliminating Gauteng's Super Kids in a breath-taking quarter final encounter that went down to the wire (3-2) the Stanger lads squared up to tournament favourites, University of Western Cape (UWC) in the semi-final. According to an insider stalwart, Damien Peters, Cameroon Singh, Sherwin Daniels and Lionel Jali are in reasonably good form, but their 'Achilles heel' is in their power hitting position. “The team needs the services of another recognised power hitter to twin with Cameron if they have any hope of progressing past the group stage,” said a fan. However, it is common knowledge in the provincial volleyball circles that KSST has not reached the podium as medallists for the current season and with R100 000 up for grabs as prize money the competition will be fierce and strong.
