Life sentence for KwaDukuza murderer By Xpress Reporter

On 12 December 2017, the Durban High Court sentenced Luthando Mnyamana (37) to life imprisonment for murder and fifteen years for business robbery. His sentence came after the Judge heard how he

killed Mzwandile Dimane (32). According to KZN SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, the victim was at his business premises when the accused allegedly entered the local tuck-shop in the Ntshawini area and demanded cash on 1 January

2017 at 18:55. “He took cash, cigarettes, airtime and shot Dimane. He was declared dead at the scene and the accused fled the scene. Charges of murder and business robbery were opened for investigation at KwaDukuza SAPS. Intensive investigation was

conducted and the accused was traced and arrested in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape where he was hiding. “During the court proceedings it emerged that previously the accused and the deceased were involved in a fight, the accused was defeated and he did not take

it well. He planned to attack the deceased at his tuckshop. The accused made several court appearances and was sentenced,” said Gwala. The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major

General Bheki Langa praised the investigating team for making sure that the accused is locked behind the bars. “This sentence will also serve as a warning to all those who are taking the law into their own hands, that crime does not pay,” he said.

KwaDukuza conman, Ahmed Omarjee has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars. Omarjee initially stood trial on 14 counts of fraud amounting to R23 million but was formally charged on 11 counts of fraud amounting to about R16 million. According to national media outlets, Ormajee was recently transferred from Westville Prison to C-Max in Kokstad after he was found in possession of a cellphone which he allegedly used to secure a favourable pre-sentence report from a social worker. Omarjee was arrested last year for forging documents citing that he had a tender to provide submersible water pumps to the Newcastle Municipality and required investors to invest in the project

KDM Deputy Mayor, Dolly Govender lauded the partnership and also cited that it will go a long way in ensuring a safe environment for tourists and citizens of KwaDukuza. “We are currently in an ideal situation to have this launched at this point. Hopefully this will be an ongoing partnership because we also have Easter. Now we won't have a challenge of saving lives” said Govender before adding that KwaDukuza attracts a lot of t o u r i s t s , particularly beachgoers during the festive season. “A lot of people will be coming to our beaches. People from d i f f e r e n t provinces, our

Spring Tide safety warning from NSRI

NSRI are urging extreme public caution around the coast over this coming week with the NEW MOON SPRING TIDE which peaks on Monday the 18th December. NSRI is urging public awareness about Spring Tides to highlight safety around the coast and general safety to bathers, anglers, paddlers, sailboarders and boaters around the coast with the new moon Spring Tide now upon us beach bathers and shoreline anglers are most at risk. Swim at beaches only where lifeguards are on duty and obey the safety instructions of the

twice every month, at full moon and at new moon. It brings a higher than normal high tide and a lower than normal low tide, causing stronger than normal rip currents. Rip currents are caused when the water reaches the shoreline in waves, and sea currents retreat back into the sea - this is achieved in rip currents (a river of water retreating through the incoming swells back out into the sea). What to do if caught in a rip current: Bathers should not panic. Stay afloat by treading water (moving your arms and legs in

lifeguards and only swim within the safe swimming zones lifeguards mark (using their red and yellow flags). Children should have responsible adult supervision around water. Anglers fishing along the shoreline, particularly along rocks on the shoreline, are at greatest risk during the Spring Tide where incoming waves during the high tides engulf higher than normal over rocks. Anglers should not turn their back to the sea and should be vigilant and cautious of the wave action at all times while fishing. Spring tide happens

circular movements). Don't try to swim against the current, as it will only cause you exhaustion, and let the current sweep you out to sea. But at your first opportunity, swim parallel to the beachfront until you are free of the rip current and then use the incoming waves to get back to shore. It might assist your cause to scream for help and wave to alert people on the beach to raise the alarm that you are in trouble. The next Spring Tide is the Full Moon Spring Tide on 2 January.

KwaDukuza SAPS and KDM wish all who will be spending their holidays within the jurisdiction of KwaDukuza a happy festive season. The members of the public are urged to enjoy responsibly especially when it comes to public amenities like parks and beaches. Bringing alcoholic or any other liquor into the public amenities as per the bylaws of the KwaDukuza Municipality is prohibited. 8(1) Liquor and food and 20(a),(b) and (c) Offences and Penalties. Any person found in possession of liquor shall be liable to a fine determined by a Chief Magistrate of the magistrate's court. Let us all enjoy the holidays and be safe with our families in KwaDukuza.

Christmas Party at Child Welfare

DIY projects for your home

On 29 November 2017, Santa Shoebox of Ballito, provided gifts to 400 children at the Welfare Centre. This was a Christmas party for the children that also culminated in the 16 Days of Activism program. The children were provided with snacks. Five Social workers conducted an awareness programme on child abuse, neglect, child trafficking and holiday safety. The programme educated children on child abuse prevention and the resources available in the community to assist victims of child abuse. The Board of management and staff of Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza place on record their sincere appreciation to the representatives of Santa Shoebox for their generosity and for the joy and Christmas cheer they brought to the children.

the kitchen, living room and guest bath, but skip projects in less trafficked areas like your master bedroom. Next, pick projects that are fast, easy and low cost, but will have high impact. You've undoubtedly heard it before, but it's worth saying again - paint, paint, paint! Repainting a room is one of the fastest, easiest and most costeffective ways to make it look better. Most rooms can easily be painted in a day or less, even if you're going all-out and doing the ceiling and trim as well as the walls. Speaking of paint, a fresh

coat in an eye-catching colour can make your front door look new and inviting In kitchens a n d bathrooms, replace dated or worn faucets. Install a new showerhead i n t h e bathroom, and add a new s h o w e r curtain. A new light fixture in the dining room can brighten the space and enhance the festive atmosphere. A little more effort Some projects may take a little more effort, but their payoff can be even higher. If you're feeling ambitious and are eager for a project that will really knock the in-laws' socks off, you can get rid of that old grungy carpet. Whether you choose to refurbish the wood floor under the old carpet, or install new carpeting, you can rent the tools you need, such as a floor sander or carpet stretching tool.

Tell us more about the pageant as well as your role in it. Miss Eagle South Africa is a woman empowerment contest that uses the beauty with brains and purpose platform to empower young women and encourages development and growth within themselves as well as in their communities. My role in the pageant is presently a Miss Eagle South Africa brand ambassador representing KwaZulu Natal. As brand ambassadors we engage in various charity events making differences in the less fortunate lives in our communities and surrounding areas. We are also required to build our personal brand name and leave positive footprints in all engagements that we participate in. What is required of you as a contestant? As a brand ambassador we have to carefully carry the Miss Eagle South Africa brand name with pride, dignity and respect in all our activities. We are on our journey of self development and leaving a positive impact on other lives.

What advice do you have for aspiring young models? I would encourage every young aspiring model to believe in themselves. With the right attitude, discipline, dedication and consistency they would definitely achieve all that their heart desires. Most importantly they should be themselves. Be limitless and follow your dreams, nothing is impossible.

It's the holidays and for most South Africans, that means eating lots of eating followed by weight gain and a New Year's resolution to lose weight. But why not take a healthier approach to what we eat during this holiday season and beyond? According to a recent website survey, about 18 percent of people say it's hard for them to eat healthy because they don't want to stop eating their favorite foods. The good news is you 189 Mahatma Gandhi don't have to. Street, Stanger You can still 032 552 4150 enjoy your 084 314 4555 favorite occasional TV Unit indulgences, b u t i n moderation. It's all about being mindful of what you

eat. Mindless eating is consuming food just because it's there. It's eating while distracted watching TV, working at a computer or texting on our smartphones. It's eating for emotional comfort instead of for hunger. Simply put, it's not paying attention to what we eat which can lead to being overweight and even obesity. When you pay attention to what you're eating, you can make small changes that make a big difference. Here are some tips toward a more mindful approach: • Control portions. Especially during the holidays, know that you'll have more opportunities to eat festive snacks and desserts. You don't have to deprive yourself, just eat smaller portions and less often. • Eat when you're hungry. Just because the clock says noon doesn't mean you have to eat. If you're not hungry, wait until you are just don't wait until you're famished because you might overeat. Also, don't eat

just because the food is available. • Plan. Prepare healthy snacks throughout the day. If you tend to get hungry between meals, bring along a 200calorie, whole grain, high-fiber snack. Fiber keeps you feeling full longer. • Slow down. Enjoy each bite and put your fork down while chewing, then take a drink between each bite. This gives your body enough time to trigger your brain that you are satisfied (not necessarily full). • Pay attention. Do not eat in front of the TV or computer, or while standing in the kitchen or talking on the phone. When you do these things, you're more likely to lose track of how much you've eaten. • Use technology. As we continue to become increasingly distracted by modern technology, our focus on health can fall to the back burner. But it doesn't have to be that way. “We can actually use our smartphones and other electronic devices to help us,” said Platt, a volunteer with the American Heart Association. “There are now apps that manage food records, count calories, help you track what you eat and even provide guidance on healthy food choices at the grocery store and restaurants.” • Keep a food diary. Write down everything Golden Pearl Ladies Punjabi you eat, look at it, then identify why you ate it was it hunger, stress, boredom? Then look for areas you can make adjustments and incorporate healthy changes. “Keeping a food diary is really key Kids Wear to awareness,” Platt said. “Most people are surprised at all they've consumed when they review what they've eaten.”

The reality of Christmas

Matthew 1: 18 25: “V18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. V19: Then Joseph her husband, being just a man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. V20: But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. V21: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. V22: Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet saying, V23: Behold, a virgin shall be with child and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. V24: Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife V25: And knew her not till she had brought forth her first born son: and he called his name JESUS.” The birth of Jesus Christ presents to mankind the impeccable work of God the Father as humanity and deity worked harmoniously to fulfil the prophetic declaration found in Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” The birth of Jesus is the manifestation of heaven's authority, power and purpose displayed on earth. The celebration of Christmas does not find its substance and completeness in external activities and emotions. It is the realisation that a Saviour, a King was born to save humanity and reposition man to his original relationship with his maker. The birth of a Saviour was to alter the course of mankind from death and decay to one of everlasting life. It brought with it the elements of love, joy, peace and goodwill. The arrival of Jesus as Saviour reconfigured the destiny of mankind. It facilitated a continuous fellowship with Emmanuel (God with us). The spirit of Christmas brings with it undeniable hope and unassuming love. All of this made available to humanity by the birth of Jesus Christ. As we celebrate Christmas, our primary focus must be on Jesus, for it is only then that the reality of Christmas can be experienced. That awkward moment: • When you realize your tall girlfriend is only dating you because she's using your t-shirts as crop tops • When you get dumped by a 'Rasta' and seeing a mop brings back memories • When you have trust issues and your girlfriend posts 'I Love God' on Facebook and you think that it could be short for 'Godfrey'

thing in common: they should both be changed regularly… and for the same reason.

this Christmas • Teacher: "If I gave you 2 cats and another 2 cats and another 2, how many would you have?" Johnny: "Seven." Teacher: "No, listen carefully... If I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?" Johnny: "Seven." Teacher: "Let me put it to you differently. If I gave you two apples, and another two apples and another two, how many would you have?" Johnny: "Six." Teacher: "Good. Now if I gave you two cats, and another two cats and another two, how many would you have?" Johnny: "Seven!" Teacher: "Johnny, where in the heck do you get seven from?!" Johnny: "Because I've already got a freaking cat!" • Teacher: "Kids, what does the chicken give you?" Student: "Meat!" Teacher: "Very good! Now what does the pig give you?" Student: "Bacon!" Teacher: "Great! And what does the fat cow give you?" Student: "Homework!" • A child asked his father, "How were people born?" So his father said, "Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on." The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now." The child ran back to his father and said, "You lied to me!" His father replied, "No, your mom was talking about her side of the family." • It was two o'clock in the morning and a husband and wife were sleeping when suddenly the phone rang. The husband picked up the phone and said, "Hello? (paused for a few seconds) How the heck do I know? What am I, the weather man?" and slams the phone down. His wife rolls over and asks, "Who was that?" The husband replies, "I don't know. Some guy who wanted to know if the coast was clear tonight.” • I wonder what my parents did to fight boredom before the internet. I asked my 17 brothers and sisters and they didn't know either. • Politicians and diapers have one

• A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?" The survey was a huge failure. In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant. In China they didn't know what "opinion" meant. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant. In South America they didn't know what "please" meant. And in the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant. • A Zimbabwean, a Nigerian and a South African are sitting in a bar in Beria. The Zimbabwean finishes his beer, throws his glass into the air, pulls out his pistol and shoots the glass to pieces. “In Zimbabwe,” he says, “we have so many glasses that we don't have to drink with the same one twice.” The Nigerian, obviously impressed by this, drinks his beer, throws it into the air, pulls out his AK-47, and shoots the glass to pieces. “In Nigeria,” he says, “we have so much stolen money that we don't have to drink with the same one twice either.” The South African, cool as a cucumber, picks up his beer, downs it in one gulp, throws the glass into the air, whips out his .45, and shoots the Zimbabwean and the Nigerian. Catching his glass, setting it on the bar and calling for a refill, he says, “In South Africa we have so many illegal aliens that we don't need to drink with the same ones twice.” • Baby Bear, sitting in his little chair at the table, looks at his little porridge bowl. “Who ate my porridge?” he sobs. Pappa Bear looks at his big porridge bowl. “Who on earth ate my porridge?” he demands angrily. Mama Bear sticks her head through the kitchen door and shouts, “I haven't made the porridge yet…THE POWER IS OUT!” • To the people who used to steal our pens, erasers and pencils at school, how is your stationery shop doing? • Anything can happen at school, but the Maths teacher never gets sick. • When granddad was 65 he started running a mile a day to keep fit. He is now 70 and we have no idea where he is. • Why can't bicycles stand on their own? They are two tired. • If you get cold, stand in a corner. They are usually around 90 degrees. • I recently bought some shoes from a drug dealer, I don't know what he laced them with, but I have been tripping all day.
