Continued from page 1 learners in primary schools through their “Dress a Child “Campaign. Mthembu said that n 2014, KDM is hoping to double the number of learners that will be supported and dressed. “During 2013/2014, we will be working very hard to ensure that our Ward Youth Forums are stronger, functional and aligned to the work of our government,” he said. The proposed launch of the Youth Council will ensure that there is a better coordination and communication between the Local

Youth Affairs Sub-committee and youth forums. The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), the Minority Front (MF), the National Freedom Party (NFP), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the African National Congress (ANC) were in favour of the budget except the Democratic Alliance (DA). Responding to KDM House Speaker Councillor Thulani Khuluse's statement: “The DA has never supported anything that supports the poor,” Councillor Madhun Sing issued a statement of

his own… “The remarks from the ANC are most unfortunate accusing the DA of not being for the poor. We fully support redress, reconciliation, diversity and delivery for all the people. “The DA raised very pertinent issues regarding Budget and tariff increase which we did not support. “This did not go down with the ANC and they launched a cheap political attack on the DA creating a wrong perception. We will not bow down to political pressure,” said Sing.

Community outrage Two men appeared in court on a charge of kidnapping and murder. It is alleged that a group of 7 youths “arrested” Philani Mdladla whom they allege had given a knife to a person who stabbed another person who died as a result of his injury. The group located the deceased whom they assaulted and doused with petrol before setting him alight. Qiniso Ngobese (23) and Mandla Chonco (41) will apply for bail this week. Share and share alike A man caught up in the middle of two women is really in the midst of a war. Phindile Mbhele alleges that she and her boyfriend were asleep at her house. At about midnight she was called by the other girlfriend. When she went to speak to her the woman damaged several window panes. The woman insisted that the boyfriend spend the rest of the night with her. Rachel Gugu Mthembu (40) has been charged with malicious damage to property and is due back at court on 22 July. The price of helping Gift Skhakane is being accused of pointing out persons involved in a murder case to police. He alleges he was approached by Mpumelelo Shandu (35) who confronted him about this rumour. An argument broke out and Skhakane alleges that he was threatened to stay away or be killed. He made it clear that he was unafraid of these threats and left. However, as he departed, he alleges that Shandu cocked his firearm and threatened him. Shandu's firearm has been confiscated and he is due back at court on a charge of pointing a firearm on 26 July. The girl is mine As the popular hit song by Michael Jackson belted out, a despondent lover sought out his girl at a local tavern last Saturday at about 8:30pm. She was in the company of his neighbour and this infuriated Thomasi Ngwenya. After requesting his girlfriend to accompany him home, an argument broke out. At this stage the neighbour drew a knife and stabbed Ngwenya twice on his back and chest. Surprisingly, his girlfriend partook in the attack and he fled. Michael Dlamini (31) is expected back at court on 15 July 2013. So easy The frequency of violence against unarmed victims is scary. Simphiwe Ntuli of Ntshawini alleges that he was approached by two youths at his house last week. They enquired about R100 they allege they lost at a local tavern. The surprised Ntuli denied knowledge of the cash and both youths assaulted him. As a result of the attack he received several stitches. Thulani Nkosi (22) was arrested whilst his accomplice is at large. He is due back at court on 15 June.

Coastal Breakdown shifts into Top Gear!

What a privilege it was to be part of the top gear festival this past weekend. When organizers of this hugely successful event needed towing services they contacted Coastal Breakdown after a personal recommendation from the chairman of the Natal Towing Association as a company with an excellent reputation and fleet of tow trucks that can be put on show but more importantly perform under the most extreme circumstances where time and professionalism was under the microscopic scrutiny. Sash and his team were called upon to assist throughout the weekend and were kept very busy as racers were put to the test along a very challenging street circuit. " It was an honor to be chosen by the event organizers and the Stanger community should be proud that a Local business is rated so highly by the regulatory bodies in our province" said Sash Nair.

Hospice celebrates dads

By Xpress Reporter

The Dolphin Coast Hospice Association (DCHA) celebrated Father's Day on Wednesday, 12 June 2013. Dads of the DCHA were honoured and treated to an entertaining day, with Guest Speaker, Mr Zaf Khan who inspired and reminded the dads about their important role in society.

direct impact on education. “With the cold season, that has exposed poor families to colds, these families remain vulnerable to contagious diseases as they don't have the financial muscle to afford, this has serious ramifications to education,” she said. The KDM Mayor welcomed such efforts from the committee and he also says that everyone has a role to play in society to overcome the plight of poverty. “It is important that we work together to fight poverty, this shows that government is hard at work despite the limited budget that is allocated to us every year. This comes as I have just delivered my budget speech, highlighting all our plans for the next financial year where I indicated the role that we will be playing as a municipality working together with provincial departments to alleviate poverty,” said Ricardo Mthembu. He said that KDM will continue rolling out the provincial flagship programme Operation Sukuma Sakhe to reach out to all victims of poverty.

According to her mum, Manisha, the 7-year-old learner is coping well with her illness and has the full support of her family and her educator, Mrs S Pillay. This Friday, 21 June 2013, the school will participate in the “Denim for Diabetes” campaign, an initiative by Diabetes South Africa where learners wear an item of denim in exchange for a donation of R10. The aim is to raise awareness amongst learners and educate them about Diabetes.

PRESS WORLD Making the world local

NASA selects more women astronauts CNN: NASA has selected another generation of astronauts to travel to new destinations in the solar system, including an asteroid and Mars, and for the first time in its history half of the new candidates are women. Four out of the eight candidates are women, “making this the highest percentage of female astronaut candidates ever selected for a class,” the US space agency said. New astronauts will begin with a two-year general orientation training and a flight mission to low-Earth orbit afterwards. “We have great female candidates in the pool this year. The selection is about qualifications. It has nothing to do with their genders,” said Jay Bolden of NASA.

Indonesians rally against fuel price hike Al Jazeera: Thousands of protesters have rallied across Indonesia against government plans to hike the price of fuel, with police in one city firing tear gas to stop hundreds storming the local parliament. Indonesia's parliament on Monday approved budget amendments that will pave the way for the government to announce the first price hike since 2008. Demonstrations were held in the capital Jakarta and other cities to coincide with the parliament session that approved compensation measures for the poor that the government had demanded before it would agree to cut fuel subsidies. Fuel prices have long been a flashpoint issue in Indonesia, with economists arguing that huge government subsidies are damaging Southeast Asia's top economy. Millions are opposed to lowering the payouts, which keep down the cost of living.

Most people make babies out to be very complicated, but the truth is they have only t h r e e m o o d s : 1.Just about to cry 2. Crying… 3. Just finished crying. I always wondered why babies spend so much time sucking their thumbs; then I tasted baby food. When those directions on the side of the Pampers box say, 'holds 6-12 pounds' they're not kidding! The worst feature of a new baby is its mother's singing. People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one.

“Mama Fati with Musiru Powder and Magic ring” My friends were visiting different casino after one to another but they were not winning and interesting amount. One morning I was walking on the street and I had people talking about the miracles performed by Mama Fati. I kindly asked them to also give me her contact then I went there to her office and see Mama Fati. She gave me Magic Ring and said that I should put on my right hand when I reach casino, I surprisingly win R37000 on my first day and I went back to enquire if I would play lotto for better amounts. She told me to use the same Ring, to put Magic Ring under my pillow to enable me dream of the lucky number. It shocked me when it perfectly happened and I had the number in my head in the morning. I later filled in my numbers in the lotto forms and I managed to win R4.3 million rands. I will never forget the happiness I had after winning that much. May God bless Mama Fati. I had suffered for so long without a smile in my face. Like my husband was turning against me as the business he had opened for me was going down and all my customers had run away from me with my money. I decided to go and look for help from Mama Fati. Former Stangerite and Europe football analyst Vinni Luckraj, currently a Football analyst for Sky Sports in London, took time off his busy schedule to attend his sister's wedding in KwaDukuza this past weekend. The Class of 1993 Stanger Manor Secondary School learner and Opta Index employee explained what his job is all about. “I collect sports information using computer software on football players from various leagues in Europe,” said Luckraj. He said that he collects data of teams and players from the English Premier League (EPL), the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, the Spanish La Liga and the Eredivisie Dutch league in Holland. He explained that the data obtained from each player

involved how many kilometres the player covers from a match to his overall career to major football clubs needing statistics to make informed purchasing decisions. The ardent Liverpool supporter and central London resident attained a degree in International Sports Marketing from the University of Johannesburg (formerly Rand Afrikaans University) and spent two-and-a-half years in Johannesburg working for the SABC Sports flagship soccer program 'Laduma' behind the scenes. The self confessed football fanatic says that he 'eats, sleeps and breathes football.' He also says that he has been absolutely influenced by the sport and that 'you don't need to be a player' to live your passion, 'you must look at the business aspect as well.’

KSST Sunbrook through to semis of Ralph Reuben Memorial KO Cup

Sunbrook will take on KSST in the semi final of the Ralph Rueben Memorial KO Cup

It was no surprise when tournament favourites, KSST and social league's Sunbrook secured places in the semi finals of the Ralph Reuben Memorial knock out Cup being hosted by The Stanger and District Volleyball Association at the Association courts last Thursday. Sunbrook will be up against KSST in the semi final.

In the preliminary rounds, Preston came from a set down to beat a highly charged up Manor Old Boys. MOB took the first set 25-21 before Preston regrouped and won the next two sets 25-22, 15-12 to move into the quarter finals against Sunbrook. However, Preston could not maintain that momentum and went down 12-25, 15-25 to Sunbrook.

KSST on the other hand raced to a convincing 25-11, 25-12 victory over social league outfit, Darnall Action Sporting to book a place in the quarter final against yet another social league team, Cool Leaders. KSST once again showed their prowess with a convincing 25-14, 25-15 win over Cool Leaders to secure a semi final berth against Sunbrook. Sunbrook will pose no major threat for the tournament favourites. Meanwhile, Virgo, who ply their trade in the social league ranks cage competitive league outfit, Randsons a rude awakening as they went on to secure the first set 25-21. However, once Randsons discovered their rhythm they quickly overturned the first set and romped home to a 25-14, 15-12 win to move into the quarter final. They will now meet S&S in the quarter final next Thursday. Grove End were also in for a rude awakening. After romped home with a 25-14 win against Titans, Titans were all rage in the second set beating their more illustrious counterparts 25-20. However, Grove End trounced Titans 15-4 in the final set to set up a quarter final clash against Teachers Style. The winners of the Randsons/S&S and Grove End/Teachers Style will contest the second semi final for a place in the final.

F1 races in Monaco and Canada done and dusted By Xpress Reporter For the FIA Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco on Sunday, 26 May 2013, we take our cue from the Telegraph's coverage and their synopsis: • Nico Rosberg wins Monaco Grand Prix 30 years since his father Keke did the same; • Red Bull's Vettel and Webber second and third; • Race delayed with red flag after big Maldonado crash; • Felipe Massa crashes at Ste Devote again, safety car out; • McLaren pair Button and Perez clash again and • Mercedes at centre of technical row over tyre test. The Monaco Grand Prix is undoubtedly the most prestigious race on the Formula One calendar. There is the Le Mans 24 hour race and the NASCAR Indy 500 that also has a huge worldwide following, however the Monaco F1 race still takes centre stage with it's street circuit heritage

and ties with the royal family. The Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal on Sunday, 9 June 2013 was all about Red Bull Racing driver and triple world c h a m p i o n , S e b a s t i a n Ve t t e l ' s dominance. Sky Sports F1 tweeted during the race that 'by the time the race had hit its halfway point, Vettel had lapped Kimi Raikkonen, the man who, at the time, sat in second place on the F1 World Championship leader board.' The German driver, just 25-years-old, picked up his 29th career victory, and first in Canada, to maintain his lead in the Drivers championship overall. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) took second position in 14.4 seconds behind Vettel and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) took third 15.9 seconds behind Alonso.
