rganizational renewal and restoration of unity were the main themes at the weekend as the ANC in the General Gizenga Mpanza Region held a successful regional elective conference. Delegates at the conference, which was held at Stanger High School, elected new five office bearers (regional leaders) and 20 additional members of the regional executive committee (REC). The elected officials have been given a mandate of renewing and uniting the organization towards meeting its intended goals of building a more united and stronger ANC that fulfils its commitments of realizing the national democratic

society. As was widely expected, Vusi Mavayi Mthethwa emerged as the new regional chairperson, with Bheka Dlamini getting the nod as deputy chairperson. Former speaker of iLembe District Municipality Siphesihle Zulu was elected as the new regional secretary, with former Maphumulo mayor Matozi Khuzwayo-Dlamini coming in deputy secretary. Long serving regional treasurer was reelected into the same position. “The regional conference is held at a particular interval were delegates are given an opportunity to elect leaders with a view of advancing the work of the ANC so that it may live up to its promise. The conference guides the ANC towards a more strategic direction were the internal organizational strengths and levels of democratic

hegemony gets tested,” the ANC said in a statement. The elected officials have a huge task of consolidating organisational unity and renewal for economic growth and transformation of society, true to the 08th Regional conference theme. The 340 delegate strong conference will tomorrow, make further deliberations on policies and programmes, and will name additional members who will be emerging to Regional Executive Committee (REC). The conference was opened by ANC provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala who emphasized organizational unity and renewal amid dwindling support for the ruling party.

Cllr Nhaca stated. She was speaking at the KwaDukuza Town Hall last week Tuesday, where she handed over ten wheelchairs and 50 walking sticks to people living with disabilities in KwaDukuza.

Kwa-Zulu Natal Women's Network Champion, Brigadier F Bantham, who encouraged members on parade to be safe while working the operation as they work together to sweep in arrests. Road blocks were set up in the Kwadukuza area, together with KDM, vehicles were stopped by members and searched thoroughly, a total of five fines were issued out to vehicles at the road block for not being road worthy vehicles. The Road Block also distributed 200 brochures on Festive Season Safety Tips and Home Safety Tips to drivers who passed the Umvoti Toll, to ensure that

members of the Community adhere to these safety tips and remain safe during the Festive Season. The second phase of the Operation Basadi, took the teams into areas of KwaDukuza, the teams successfully brought in arrests for dealing in liquor without a valid license, and arrests for being in possession of drugs. The final phase of the operation took all of the members to a Tavern in the Thembeni area, Brigadier Bantham took charge as the members were surrounded by the community, preventing the members from raiding the Tavern, the operation however, continued, recovering liquor being sold

without a licence, with a value of approximately R50000, and arresting another suspect for dealing in liquor without a licence. The operation created a high visibility in the Kwadukuza area, as the convoy of over 15 marked police vehicles and blue lights decorated the streets and CBD of Kwadukuza. Kwa-Zulu Natal Women's Network Champion Brigadier F Bantham expressed her gratitude to all members of the Province of Kwa-Zulu Natal for being a part of the SARPCCO Operation Basadi and for being a part of the 'clean up' operation which took place in Kwadukuza.

Local ladies attend high profile conference By Xpress Reporter

One of KwaDukuza's prominent humanitarians Amy Naidoo recently attended a highly inspirational women's conference that was hosted by Princess Nosipho Mthembu, and facilitated by Cogta Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. The conference was held at the High Calling Global Ministries in Durban, on the 9th of December 2021. It was

organized by the African Religious & Traditional Leaders Council. With the theme “Uniqueness of the Women”, the conference featured a great number of influential speakers, drawn from the government sector, the religious sector and the institute of traditional leadership. Naidoo was accompanied by her best friends, Ms Zamo Dladla and Ms Sally Rabichand.

“The conference was about the roles that women played in society, families, religious groups and business. It deliberated on the strength and resilience of women to overcome almost anything. It also encompassed issues of gender based violence, and how women need to help each other and empower each other,” Naidoo stated. She added that the event gave honour and recognition to the many women who were part Unbeatable Quality & of the Prices on BIRD FEED struggle

Vital beach safety tips By Xpress Reporter HAPPY CHRISTMASS: Bright Kids crèche and day-care wishes everyone a merry Christmas.

Christmas Day, celebrated on December 25 in Catholic, Protestant, and most Orthodox churches, is a public holiday in South Africa. On this day Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. The date is traditional and is not considered to be the actual date of his birth. The story of Christ's birth has been handed down for centuries, based primarily on the Christian Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Historians differ about when Christians first began celebrating the Nativity of Christ. Most scholars, however, believe that Christmas originated in the 4th century as a Christian substitute for the pagan Festival of Saturn celebrations of the winter

solstice. Christmas is the only remaining Christian event which virtually the whole world acknowledges. Albeit it is celebrated worldwide, it has largely lost its Christian character and is now often focused on goodwill and celebration with friends and family. Giftgiving is a near-universal part of Christmas celebrations. The giving of presents was used by Christians around the world to proclaim the Good News of the real Gift, the Christ Child, who was born to die and give us the gift of pardon from sin and eternal life. Presently, it is typically the largest annual economic stimulus in South Africa and other countries. According to Sainfo's latest article on South Africa's demographics, in terms of

religious affiliation, about two-thirds of South Africans are Christian, mainly Protestant. They belong to a variety of churches, including many that combine Christian and traditional African beliefs. Many nonChristians espouse these traditional beliefs. Other significant religions are Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. There are increasing attempts to 'deChrist' Christmas. Many companies do their best to avoid the word Christmas and will rather refer to Season's Greetings. This is a controversial topic as 'deChristing' Christmas will aggravate many Christians and open up debates about other religious holidays. Source: South African History Online

It is important to be aware about safety and protection measures whilst on the beach. The following tips are essential to all people visiting the beach: · Read and obey the beach regulations and follow instructions from lifeguards. · Report hazardous conditions or incidents to lifeguards or other beach personnel. · Make sure you know how to swim if entering the sea. · Swim in areas supervised by a lifeguard usually in a zone between two red and yellow flags. · Never swim alone. · Swim parallel to the shore if you wish to swim a long distance. · Supervise children closely, even when lifeguards are present. A personal floatation device is recommended for children. · If caught in a rip current, swim sideways until free and

don't swim against the current's pull. · Don't dive into unfamiliar waters what may seem deep could be very shallow. Feetfirst is safer. · Avoid swimming near rocks, piers, jetties and breakwaters. · If you are in trouble in the sea, shout or wave for help. · Scuba dive only if trained and certified. · Do not drink alcohol before or during swimming, diving or boating. Alcohol impairs your judgment, balance, coordination and reduces your body's ability to stay warm. · Do not take drink glasses, glass bottles or glass containers to the beach as they can break and pose a threat to bare feet. · Wear foot protection on unclean, rocky or hot sand beaches. · Do not light fires on the beach except in designated areas. · Stay clear of coastal dune

cliffs as they can collapse suddenly. · Protect your skin from over exposure to UVA and UVB rays by wearing waterproof sunscreen with a high protection factor of 20+. Avoid the sun between the hottest times of the day: 11am to 3pm. · Wear eye protection, good quality sunglasses protect against UV rays. · Drink plenty of water regularly to avoid dehydration even if you don't feel thirsty. Your body needs water to keep cool and to replace lost salts through sweating. · Watch for signs of heat stroke which is lifethreatening. The body's temperature can rise too high due to poor sweating. Signs include hot, red and dry skin; rapid and weak pulse and rapid, shallow breathing. Move to a cooler place, cool the body down and seek medical help.

Minister Mbalula urges caution on the roads

With increased traffic on the roads during the festive season, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has called on motorists to be vigilant and obey the rules of the road at all times. This plea comes after 14

people lost their lives, while three sustained serious injuries and one sustained minor injuries on Saturday. The accident occurred between Reitz and Petrus Steyn in the Free State when a Quantum kombi was

overtaking another vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with a Crafter kombi. The Minister has expressed sadness at the tragic crash and conveyed condolences to the families of those who lost

loved ones. “Loss of life on our roads is a tragedy that we must all work towards curtailing. It is only through collective effort that includes responsible behaviour by motorists, effective law enforcement

and innovative engineering solutions in road design by government that will arrest the carnage on our roads and reverse the tide. We must all be vigilant and obey the rules of the road at all times,”

Mbalula said. “Law enforcement authorities will maximise visibility on the roads and will deal with those who violate the law severely,” added Mbalula

Harmful effects of on-the-road littering

One of our vigilant readers has brought to our attention a most worrying, and growing, trend that has the potential to result in nasty road accidents. Our reader was talking about the practice of throwing unwanted items through the windows of moving vehicles, commonly referred to as “on the road littering. South Africa is a beautiful country and one of the best places for a road trip. Sadly, too many road users are guilty of spoiling its beauty when they litter from their vehicles. Litter does not only reflect badly on our community but comes at a terrible cost with a far-reaching impact

environmentally, economically or socially. It presents a very real danger to drivers, workers, cyclists and other road users and animals. With increased car usage and our hectic modern lifestyles, we find more and more people consuming food and drink 'on the go' and in transit. This includes a sandwich, crisps or a snack bar and a bottle to drink as many people's lunch. They are consumed in transit as we travel from one place to another for work or when

Building a positive mindset

There are certain things in life which are beyond our control that is the external factors. We cannot control what the world is doing, what's going on in the country, or certain situations that occur in our lives, but we can control our reaction to it and how we respond to these situations. You are human, and it is normal to experience negative emotions at times. It can be difficult to remain positive with all of the depressing news in the media. Many of us amongst society are so absorbed and focused on the bad things that are happening, that we forget to pay attention to the good stuff. Due to this, it seems as if the world is relapsing after years of progression. The future looks pretty bleak with the way that we are responding, and we are sacrificing longer term interests and goals for short term benefits or satisfactions, which is manifesting in a worse quality of life for future generations. It isn't easy with Covid being present, I understand that people have lost their jobs and loved ones. I'm aware that some businesses had to close down after the looting that occurred in the month of July. I agree that it isn't fair that a life is being ended every day in Palestine. I also know that it isn't easy getting up every day, going to work and doing the same routine on a daily basis. Negativity is the greatest threat of all problems. If we let negative emotions get the better of us, we will never be able to make a change for the future of our community and country, or even more so, a better change for our individual selves. If we are constantly clouded by fear, we won't ever get to a place that we possibly could be at. It is medically and scientifically proven that holding onto anger, depression, and anxiety just causes unnecessary stress, health issues, and lack of attraction. As a society, we must remain in a positive state of mind. Many people take it for granted when being told 'just remain positive' but don't fully understand the power behind it. When this time passes by, and turns into history, the future generations will look upon these times to see how we have responded as a human race, as a community, and as people of this world. Let's not make it only about the progression of the medical field and increase in masks supply, or the statistics of how many people have lost their lives. We must be an example to the future generations by focusing on the good, on the positive. Don't hold yourself down from achieving your goals just because of the current situations or because of an unhealthy mindset. Remember, what you do today will definitely have an impact on tomorrow. Create, build, advise so that the future generations can have something good to look back upon. Every moment in life is passing by and this isn't going to last forever. Don't disturb your mind by looking so far ahead and predicting the worst, bring your mind back to the present, and make the most of the moment, because this moment isn't going to last forever and neither are the external nor internal struggles we are facing. Nazmira Sheik

transporting the kids to and from school. [Which could be a dangerous driver distraction as well] It is important to recognise that roadside litter is an avoidable problem and education, enforcement, engagement and policy and

legislation all have a role to play. Litter can be defined as consisting of waste products that have been disposed improperly, without consent, at an inappropriate location. Roadside litter is taken to mean any unwanted items which are disposed of which ends up on and next to our roadsides. More commonly, this comes from vehicles but it may come from any road user. · Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world and are toxic to the environment. · Often found during litter

clean-ups are fast-food wrappers/ packaging. · Plastic and paper bags. · Aluminium beer cans and soda cans. · Takeaway cups. · Soiled nappies Littering is not a “victimless crime”. It also does not only degrade our road environment but is a threat to those using our roads and living alongside our roads. The hazards presented by this thoughtless conduct include: · Road crashes when drivers swerve to avoid debris. · Collisions caused by items in the road or items that land on windscreens.

· Flat tyres from punctures caused by sharp items thrown from vehicles. · Vehicle and windscreen damage from debris/ litter left on the roads. · Road workers putting their lives at risk when picking up litter from the roadside. · Collisions with animals attracted to the road by litter. · Flood risks to drivers and pedestrians when litter blocks drains along our roads. · Risks to grass cutters and their equipment from the litter at the side of the road. [Including risk to bee attacks near litter next to the road]
