offences also shot up from 33 in the preceding year, to 63 last year, a worrying trend particularly for women and children. In the 2019/20 fiscal year this figure came in at 47. at 225, a staggering increase of 25 cases from the 200 cases reported a year earlier. Two years earlier this figure came in at 182. Cases of common assault stood at 198, up from 176 for the corresponding period a year earlier. Robbery with aggravating circumstances is another type of crime that should keep the residents of KwaDukuza awake at night. Reported cases in respect of this type of crime were a whopping 213 during the period under review, an increase of 39 cases from the previous year. In total, contact crimes reported in KwaDukuza in the three months up to December last year were 807 cases, up from 668 cases for the 2020/21 corresponding period. Carjacking cases are also refusing to come to an end in KwaDukuza, with 8 cases being reported in the three months to December. Robbery at residential premises, a type of crime that invariably sends a shiver down many people's spine, is also on the increase, with 66 cases reported in the
most recent quarterly period. A year earlier this figure came in at 55. Other crime categories that are showing an upward trend in KwaDukuza include drug-related crimes, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, shoplifting, theft out of motor vehicle and burglary at residential premises. Meanwhile, the IFP has described the latest crime statistics as “a reflection of ongoing crisis of leadership within our police service”. IFP spokesperson on police, Member of Parliament Zandile Majozi said South Africans were getting tired of the relentless public spat between Minister Cele and the National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole. “We therefore urge the Minister to take the country and the SAPS into his confidence and request that President Cyril Ramaphosa finalise his decision on the Commissioner's fitness to hold office, following the inquiry into his leadership capabilities,” Majozi stated.

Deteriorating academic outputs at several Mandeni schools have prompted the Mandeni Parliamentary Constituency Office, led by Member of the KZN Provincial Legislature Makhosazane Zungu, to request immediate intervention by the provincial Department of Education.

Holy pilgrimage to the Drakensburg DEVOTION: Devotees from KwaDukuza escaped to the divinity of Drakensburg to worship Lord Shiva
Typhoid outbreak confirmed in the Western Cape Cases of typhoid fever have been confirmed in Gauteng, the Western Cape and the North West. At least seven cases of typhoid fever have been confirmed in Gauteng between December 2021 and February. Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection that can spread throughout the body, affecting many organs.
Without prompt treatment, it can cause serious complications and can be fatal. It's caused by a bacterium called Salmonella typhi, which is related to the bacteria that cause salmonella food poisoning. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says investigations of
typhoid outbreaks are ongoing in at least two provinces the Western Cape and North West after a spike of cases in these two regions this year. While the country generally saw less than 150 cases of typhoid fever a year in the last few years, there was a steady increase of typhoid cases, particularly in the two provinces.
Last Saturday saw almost 100 devotees from KwaDukuza escaping on a “pilgrimage” to the divine landscapes of the Drakensberg peaks to worship Lord Shiva in his various forms. The serene atmosphere was filled with
melodious bhajans and kirthans and offerings to the various deities. All were treated to a cultural lunch. “As we made our way back to home, we could strongly feel the presence of the supreme being upon each and every devotee.
Cod's grace saw us safely back to our various destinations. The next “Ritz Pilgrimage Tour” is planned for the 12th of March 2011, at Golden Horse Casino. For more information, please contact (072) 712-7617.
When men fall victim to toxic femininity By Musa Mnyandu
Whenever incidents of gender based violence happen, society gets horrified. And correctly so. Domestic violence, in all its forms, is a scourge that has no place in our communities. Being a community journalist, I often come across such cases, and my reaction is always the same: Aghast! The undeniable truth is that men are almost always the perpetrators. Indeed, toxic masculinity is endemic in our society, which renders our women and children extremely vulnerable. Hundreds of women fall victim to domestic violence, with many of them losing their precious lives in the process. And sometimes children get caught in the crossfire. Undoubtedly, it's the ugliest face of South African society. Well, men too do get abused. And yes, sometimes by women! So I guess there also exists toxic femininity. And sadly, violent women tend to get away with their vile acts. Society prefers to turn a blind eye to domestic abuse if the victim is male. That kind of phenomenon just doesn't fit the preferred narrative. I received this baptism of fire this week when a woman (name withheld) tried to rape me. Yes, you heard right. A woman tried to rape me. That, in addition to a multitude of other violent, vile acts that were perpetrated against me, by the same culprit. I shall not get into details, as I need to reserve my right to press criminal charges. However I will mention this: I felt absolutely powerless
lying there, with my feminine attacker sitting on top of me, waving two large pieces of broken bottles around my neck, threatening to “cut me up” if I didn't allow her to satiate her sexual desire on me. I resisted fiercely. However due to the very real threat of physical harm that I was facing, I couldn't stop her committing other acts on me that can only be described as sexual assault. It's rare for a man to let tears roll down his face, and beg for his life, but that's exactly what I was reduced to doing. I suppose I should be thankful that, in the end, she did not actually “cut me up” as she had threatened. However I feel extremely traumatized. And the worst thing is that I am reluctant to open a case in this respect. You see, there is no evidence. It will just be my word against hers. I can also mention that I actually called the police, twice. In the first instance the person who took my call decided not to send officers, but he elected to appoint himself as a “relationship counsellor”, with disastrous consequences, before he rudely hung up the phone. I have consequently taken up that particular issue with the KwaDukuza SAPS management. But, society needs to be sensitized to this kind of crime. Men suffer in silence. It is incumbent upon each and everyone of us, as law abiding citizens, to rid our communities of all forms of gender based violence. No human being deserves to be a sacrificial lamb, or an experiment for somebody else's perverted desires. Violence is violence, no matter the gender of the victim.

Knife wielding suspect arrested
“Personal growth can be painful because it can make us feel ashamed and humiliated to face our own darkness. But our spiritual goal is the journey out of fear based, painful mental habit patterns, to those of love and peace,” Marianne Williamson “Don't take insults personally, sidestep negative energy and look for the good in others. You can utilize that good-as different as it may be- to improve your point of view and enlarge your perspective,” Stephen Covey.

KwaDukuza resident excels at Cookware Consultant Competition Morgie Pam Naidoo
KwaDukuza's resurgent entrepreneur Morgie 'Pam' Naidoo from ward 19, made the whole of ILembe District proud when she claimed position three on AMC Cookware Consultant Competition held this past weekend. The aim of the competition is to recognize AMC consultants who excelled in sales in the previous year. Naidoo says AMC Cookware journey hasn't been an easy one especially in the past year where she lost some of her products due to lootings that plagued the country in July 2021. Naidoo started from humble beginnings, started selling AMC cookware in 2004 and when sales started to increase in 2016, Morgie decided to attend leadership programmes to gain more knowledge. “Due to circumstances I did not complete my schooling. AMC Cookware made me realize that your level of education, sex, race or age does not matter, you can be successful. You determine your own paycheque, build your own dreams and be your own boss,” said Morgie Naidoo.

Arsenal moved into pole position for the fourth and final Champions League place as Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka struck to see off Brentford 2-1. The Gunners' need for a goalscorer was shown up again as Mikel Arteta's men penned the Bees back from the first whistle but had to wait until Smith Rowe fired into the far corner two minutes into the second half to break the deadlock. Saka then rifled in a brilliant effort in off the post 11 minutes from time before Christian Norgaard registered a consolation deep into stoppage time. Liverpool survive Norwich scare, Chelsea strike late to down Palace Mohamed Salah's 150th Liverpool goal and Luis Diaz's first kept the Reds in the hunt for the Premier League title as they came from behind to beat Norwich 3-1, while Chelsea snatched a late win at Crystal Palace on Saturday. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made seven changes from the side that won 2-0 at Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek and nearly paid a heavy price when the Canaries took a shock lead at Anfield. Milot Rashica's shot deflected in off Joel Matip three minutes into the second half. But Liverpool's deadly duo of Sadio Mane and Salah turned the game around with two goals in the space of three minutes. Salah then raced onto goalkeeper Alisson Becker's brilliant long ball, rounded Angus Gunn and left two Norwich defenders on the floor to become the second quickest player to 150 Liverpool goals behind Roger Hunt. Diaz then produced a deft finish either of his two strike partners would be proud of to lift the ball over Gunn from Jordan Henderson's defence splitting pass. Victory takes Klopp's men to

Justin Rathanum entered and wasted no time hitting the ball all over the park making 19 runs before being bowled by veteran Suveer Maharaj. Nishen Singh (10 not out) and opener Brian (16 not out) sealed the win in the final over with 5 balls to spare. Club Chairman Mukesh Maharaj was full praise with the outstanding performance from the boys. He also thanked the Darnall community for coming in numbers to support the team.
In a T20 B league iLembe District Cricket union match played at Gledhow grounds this past Saturday, Darnall beat Dawnheights B by 6 wickets. Darnall won the toss and elected to bowl first. Openers Zain Hoosen and youngster Luvuyoheto made an opening stand of 13 runs before Hoosen was trapped LBW for 7 runs by Klyton Kisten. Avishkar Ramduth steadied the ship, batting cautiously on S. took another hit as they were held 1-1 at home by Newcastle. Hammers boss David Moyes again selected Kurt Zouma despite the controversy over the Frenchman physically abusing his cat. Craig Dawson headed Moyes' men in front, but Joe Willock secured another vital point in Newcastle's battle to avoid relegation. Norwich slip to the bottom of the table as Burnley secured just a second win of the season and in some style with a 3-0 win at Brighton. January signing Wout Weghorst netted his first goal for the Clarets before he then teed up Josh Brownhill to make it 2-0 before half-time. Jay Rodriguez added a third after the break to move Burnley to within five points of safety with two games in hand on Newcastle.
