a bully. It may take a variety of different responses to find the strategy that works best for your situation. To defeat a bully, you need to retain your self-control and preserve your sense of self. Walk away from the bully. Bullies want to know that they have control over your emo tions, so do not react with anger or retaliate with physical force. If you
walk away, ignore them or calmly and assertively tell them that you are not interested in what they have to say. Report the bullying to a trusted adult. If you do not report threats and assaults, a bully will often become more and more aggressive,” added Nunkumar. KwaDukuza SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier SF
Mhlongo strictly condemned the high number of bullying incidents that has recently been reported within the KwaDukuza area. “We urge learners who are victims of bullying to report these incidents to somebody they can confide in, and in serious cases of assault, we urge the learners to open a case at their local Police Station”, she said.

Fibre installation workers down tools over salaries
MANOR: Workers employed to install fibre in ward 17 downed tools on Thursday over salaries
Fibre Installation workers under KZN Fibre downed tools on Thursday, 18 June 2021. This came after workers were allegedly not paid for over two months. On Thursday workers barricaded roads with dirt, stones and burning tyres in ward 16 and ward 17 in KwaDukuza. According to the workers who asked to remain anonymous, they haven't received their salaries in a span of two months by the subcontractor, contracted by
KZN Fibre. Following the protest, ward 17 Cllr Madhum Singh called for an urgent meeting and met with the main contractor and subcontractor of the fibre installation project. According to Cllr Singh the main purpose of the meeting was to find an amicable solution to the grievances of the workers. Cllr Singh told Xpress Times that it was a complicated problem between the sub-contractor and workers but on Friday an
agreement was reached to pay out the workers. “It was unfair to make people work and not pay despite whatever the circumstances. Workers pulled out fibre cables blocked corner of Manor Drive and rose road and burnt tyres to highlight their plight. I am glad having met the contractors and workers we resolved the non-payment to workers amicably,” said Singh. “Work entailed laying of fibre cables underground. Lessons learnt while there
KWADUKUZA: Residents in Ocean View are up in arms over fibre installation in the area.
are policies to support emerging contractors in most cases they are not ready or do not have the capacity to complete the project even to the extent of not having cash flow resulting in frustration with workers when they are not paid for work done. Through my intervention I adopted a no nonsense approach with the contractors and got them to pay the workers the very next day after workers protested citing nonpayment of wages,” added
Singh. Following last week's protests rage has erupted in Ocean View, Stanger Manor and surrounding areas, residents have called on the project to be halted. Residents said the protest highlighted an issue that many more areas around KwaDukuza would face in the coming weeks, “The workers employed have damaged water pipes, drive ways and electricity cables. The installations started a few months ago and almost
every day we receive reports about water pipes that have burst and about electricity cables being cut,” alleged the concerned resident. “No matter which angle you look at it, the residents always suffer, Fibre Company made a total mess digging along boundary walls, now the workers throwing rocks and burning fires on the road, KDM should cancel the contract immediately,” added another resident.

KwaDukuza Mall responds KwaDukuza Mall Management has voiced its disappointment over claims that two of its tenants are trading without necessary approvals. Earlier this month KwaDukuza Municipality said it conducted an inspection at certain shops at the Mall and two shops were reportedly identified to be non-compliant with the business act and regulations. However Siyabonga Tembe, Manager at KwaDukuza Mall has stated that there are some inaccuracies in the report by KDM. “The newly revamped Quality Shwarmas store has been operational in KwaDukuza Mall since the
opening of the Mall in September 2018. The tenant has been issued their business licence since opening. They submitted their business licence renewal application on the 08 June 2021. They are in possession of approved building plans and temporary occupation certificate. Copies of these documents can be sourced from the KwaDukuza Municipality's Building Control department. This means that the tenant is fully compliant with KwaDukuza municipal bylaws and the National Building Regulation and Business Act,” said Siyabonga Tembe. Tembe further added that
Swaddisht Foods is trading legally. “We advise that Swaddisht Foods has submitted the Business License Application and building plans for approval. The tenant is in possession of health and safety approvals and compliance certificates. The Fire Chief of KwaDukuza Municipality also commended the tenant for their emergency compliance. It is to be noted that the tenant is trading legally. It's unfortunate that misinformation is sent to your respected publication in an attempt to score cheap political points,” concluded Siyabonga Tembe

Government intends to increase the number of people being vaccinated for Covid19 in South Africa on a daily basis from 80 000 to 250 000. President Cyril Ramaphosa says the number of vaccination sites will also be increased at a rapid pace. Ramaphosa admits that the country's vaccination programme has encountered some unexpected setbacks, forcing government to review its vaccination targets. He says the first setback came when the AstraZeneca vaccine doses were found to have a very low efficacy against the variant of the disease that is dominant in South Africa. “We have also been adversely affected by shortages in the global supply of vaccines, which has hampered vaccination programmes across Africa and in many other low- and middle-income countries. “After the AstraZeneca setback, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine appeared to be the best option for our country as it protects against
the variant, because it requires only a single dose and is easier to store and transport. “However, the supply of Johnson & Johnson vaccines was held up by an investigation into contamination of ingredients at a supplier factory in Baltimore in the United States. Until now, our mass vaccination programme has therefore had to rely on the Pfizer vaccine, which requires two doses,” stated Ramaphosa. The president says despite these setbacks, 480 000 health workers were given the Johnson &Johnson single dose vaccine as part of Phase One of the programme. A further 1.5 million health workers and people aged 60 and above have so far been injected with the first jab of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine. “The pace of vaccinations has steadily picked up, and we are now vaccinating around 80,000 people a day at over 570 sites in the public and private sector. This number will grow rapidly in the weeks to come, as we aim to protect as many vulnerable
people as possible. ”The problems with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have now been resolved. As a result of these problems, two million doses that had already been produced are unusable. The Aspen plant in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape is now able to go ahead and produce new doses. “We have to date received nearly 2.4 million Pfizer vaccine doses. By the end of June, we expect to have received a total of 3.1 million Pfizer doses. We have received an indication from Johnson & Johnson that it expects to deliver around 2 million vaccines to South Africa by the end of the month,” stated Ramaphosa. The president urged South Africans aged 60 and above to register for vaccination, or to visit their nearest vaccination sites for same day registration and vaccination. “I call on everyone else, if you know someone over 60 years of age who has not been vaccinated, please help them to register and get vaccinated,” he concluded.
IFP calls for election postponement By Xpress Reporter
Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has once again repeated its call for the upcoming local government elections to be postponed. This comes after Cabinet moved the country to Lockdown Alert Level 3 last week, which move came with further restriction on gatherings. IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa says the move by Cabinet has vindicated the party, since it has been calling for elections to be postponed, all along. “The IFP is calling for an urgent meeting of the National Party Liaison Committee of the IEC, to discuss the implications and
subsequent ramifications of President Ramaphosa's announcement this in so far as the election timeline is concerned. “We fully understand that the upcoming election is not a single event but a process, and Alert Level 3 may have a severe impact on political parties' ability to fairly contest the Local Government Election. This announcement by the president further vindicates the IFP's long-held call and position that the 2021 Local Government Election must be postponed due to health considerations, to next year, May 2022,” Hlengwa stated. Hlengwa further urged
POSTPONE: IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa
South Africans to comply with the Covid regulations and thereby disrupt the transmission chain of the virus. “Our country has come a long way and has (shown) with steely resolve and determination that we can beat the community transmission of Covid-19 if we work together, remain at home and limit our movements to essential needs and seeking essential services only,” he said.

MANDENI: On the 16 June 2021 Cllr Kathleen Naidoo together with aspirant candidates and the youth embarked on a beach clean-up at the Tugela South Bank, “It is sad to note that we have one of the best beaches on the North Coast yet the litter is strewn all over. Papers, plastic, bottles all strewn across the shore. When will patrons and fishermen alike understand that the beach is there for everyone to enjoy and so too each one should take the responsibility of ensuring that your garbage be taken home with you. There is a 'no littering' signage in place but this seems to be blatantly ignored. Let's all work collectively in ensuring that we leave only our footprints behind,” said DA Cllr Kathleen Naidoo.
