RTI officers protest By Xpress Reporter

T

he Groutville Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) staged protests on the mornings of Thursday and Friday at their headquarters last week with regards to long standing water issues. According to the Public Servants Association of South Africa (PSA) liaison officer, Claude Naiker, the union addressed the issue of shortage of water in June 2015 with the Department of Transport KwaZulu-Natal. The department then took steps to send out the installation and repairs of the water tanks to tender.

“In the interim the PSA arranged with the department to issue bottled water until fresh water was available,” said Naiker. The Xpress Times also learned that officers were given a 500ml bottle for each officer to use for a whole working day. “The PSA does not have a problem with the installation of security cameras but however wish to stress that it is only logical to prioritise the water problem than the installation of cameras,” said Naiker. The R250 000 camera installation crew from Mzansi Fire and Security were present on Thursday laying down installation in a trench

Multi-million rand road upgrades By Xpress Reporter

KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu launched the first phase of the Rehabilitation of Urban Roads project on Thursday, 17 March 2016. The R16.5 million project is an initiative established by the Mayor, and will see the rehabilitation of Manor Drive, Clover, Everest, Thucker, Centenary and Azalea roads. According to Director of Civils, Fiso Mhlongo, this is the first phase of a three-year project. “We are starting with the roads that are in the worst condition. We will look into storm water, and the roads will be resurfaced,” he said. Mayor Mthembu said that residents raised the issue of the poor condition of the roads at a meeting with the community. “I have been inundated with complaints from

ROADS 2.0: KDM Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu (fourth from right) with officials at a sod-turning ceremony in Ward 16

ordinary citizens, who have expressed to me, their displeasure on the state of public roads. My office then

initiated this project working together with the affected communities. It is with great satisfaction that we are

finally delivering this project to the community in the knowledge and expectation that activities taking place

within these roads will be more economical and more vibrant, in favour of roadusers and residents.

“This is long overdue. I believe that this project will also assist with job creation, as 100% of labour will come from the area,” said Mthembu. He added that residents s h o u l d n o t b e inconvenienced by the construction work being done. “People must be informed about when the roads will be blocked, and signs must be put up so that residents will not be inconvenienced. Residents must also be tolerant,” he said. Community members have expressed their support of the project. “I am very pleased that KwaDukuza Municipality has responded to our call of concern as this area has been neglected for quite some time. This really shows that KwaDukuza is serious about delivering on our needs,” said local resident, Lucky Narayan.

No water versus ¼ million CCTV cameras Continued from page 1 found them taped shut. The officers told us that in spite of having multiple 2000 litre JoJo tanks, Ilembe failed to top them up regularly and was not drinkable. “When I have to relieve myself I realise I have to come outside to fill water from the tank to take to the toilet and then to I am already thinking twice,” said a male officer. A female officer said that she “hold herself for the

whole day” sometimes. On Friday, officers blockaded the entrance to the Groutville licensing and testing station with vehicles; whilst the Station Commander: Ms PN Ximba, looked on from her vehicle as her officers were chanting in protest. When asked for comment Ms Ximba referred us to Kwanele Ncalane. Mr Ncalane was unavailable for comment. The other issue which another traffic officer

pointed out was the rusty infrastructure claiming that it could fall on him. Officers in unison agreed that a borehole was needed urgently as well. At the time of going to press, Naicker said: “Our members demands have been met and c a m e r a installation will be suspended until they sort

water and toilet problems.” He added that each officer would get a 1.5 litre bottled water and water will be

available at the office. In addition VIP toilets will be in place until the water system is connected. “A forum will

be formed to keep the process on going for repairs,” said the PSA.

He alleges that he was out drinking at the infamous Dicks Tavern with friends. At about 8:30pm he was approached by a local youth who questioned him about his missing cellphone. When Mbonambi refused to be drawn into the issue, his assailant drew a knife and stabbed him beneath the arm pit. Sifiso Sibiya (21) was remanded in custody pending the providing of an

It is alleged that a semi naked youth displaying his unskilled driving to friends lost control of the vehicle he was driving, injuring the three children. Local traffic officials and police were summoned to the scene to find the vehicle embedded in a tree and the three children were rushed to Stanger Hospital. Ernest

cocktail of tablets and was rushed to Stanger Hospital. A letter outlying her reasons was found in her room. A case was reported and a 28year-old carpenter has been arrested and charged with the incident. He is due back at court this week to seek bail. Celebrating Easter Easter is a holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by Romans at Calvary. The crucifixion of Christ is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. On Good Friday, Christians commemorate the passion, suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ. The day is spent in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the suffering of Christ on the cross. The resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ, is celebrated on

Easter Sunday. Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. It is believed by Christians that through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus assuring all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus. The meaning of Easter, for million of Christians, is that of honoring and recognizing Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead and His glorious promise of eternal life.

Blue light brigade accident…

Possible ban on its way By Xpress Reporter

Friends Buyi Hadebe and Nonto Xulu were driving a Toyota Yaris from Empangeni to Durban with three passengers on Friday night for a conference at Christ Embassy Church. The Democratic Alliance (DA) expressed shock and called for a ban on blue light brigades. Mchunu has assigned a special advisor to work with the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) because he said the route had many anomalies yet to be solved.

Premier Senzo Mchunu's “blue light” VIP protection support vehicles are still in the dark about the events leading to the collision near KwaDukuza on Friday night. Mchunu's bodyguards allegedly lost control of their Ford Ranger on the N2 in Zinkwazi about 8pm on Friday. The bodyguards were slightly injured. On Sunday Mchunu visited the two families in KwaMbonambi and Mhlathuze in Empangeni to pay his respects.

MAMA ALISHA THANKS MAMA ALISHA ITS REALLY HAPPENING NOW WITH YOU I am Carl from Ballito and am here to testify to my fellow South Africans about a miracle I encountered when I visited MAMA ALISHA to help me fix my financial situation. I was almost left me homeless as I had lost my home and car to fake traditional healers. On my visit she gave different ways of helping me and chose the magic wallet that brings 25000 everyday and paid her 70 000 every week from the money I made from the magic wallet. I told my cousin Petros about it and he too chose the rats that bring money in the house after which he got 40 000 and paid 9000. Mama Alisha. I know it's the same way you can be helped you have to see to believe so visit her or call her 0710223640

THIS 1 DAY SPECIAL PRAYER FIXED ALL MY MARRIAGE AND MY FINANCIAL PROBLEMS IN 1 DAY I am Trishni from Ballito, 6 years before I met this powerful spiritual healer, I was unhappy because my husband was cheating on me, our kids were always sickly and I had no money, I tried everything from healers, priests and gurus but nothing seemed to work for me. I wasted a lot of money, luckily I saw two testimony; in the local papers by an old man whose draught had been saved from drugs and alcohol abuse and a divorced lady had re-united with her exhusband after 9 years. I made a call to her and booked an appointment to meet her. I paid a R100 consultation and accurately read my fortune and told me all my problems before I spoke a word to her, she used a mirror to show face of people were trying to pull me down. She performed a 1 day special prayer to clean me from bad - luck and also gave me very powerful love crystals for indian and plus a special ring to fix my financial problems. Within 3 days of prayers. My husband confessed everything and asked for forgiveness. My kids are now healthy and I recently got a senior job promotion. Are you feeling totally helpless, heart broken and financially miserable? Is the situation getting worse? Don't loose hope! I have referred many people and she has delivered

Letters to the Editor

Stalwarts' letter to the ANC NEC

Their vision of freedom, social justice, and democracy was embraced by millions of South Africans. It was based on and driven by strong moral authority and principled engagement. Their leadership and that of the ANC were admired the world over. It inspired other people in their own struggles. In 1994, the humanity and dignity of our people were restored, and the new state, a constitutional democracy, began to support that humanity and dignity with varied institutions it created and which were dedicated to achieving a better quality of life for all its citizens. In its leadership of this new democracy the government of the African National Congress enjoyed overwhelming support across the nation: the youth, religious communities, civil society, and South Africans of all persuasions. The worldwide solidarity in support of a cause that was as universal as it was humanistic, showed the extent to which South Africa had inspired the world. Sadly, by the day we witness the steady erosion of something very rare in human history: a near universal admiration of

This week sees Quotable Quotes evolve into bringing you thought provoking and life inspiring statements from many spheres of subjects. This week we cover the topic of GRATITUDE or being thankful…

Corruption is a misery to South Africans Righteousness and its synonyms goodness, virtue, decency, integrity, worthiness, rectitude, probity, morality, justice, honesty, honour, promises are fast disappearing from the vocabulary of politicians as the public purse is rapidly converted into personal troughs. As public resources are squandered, the ultimate losers are the urban poor. This is because corruption perpetuates and widens inequalities as it diverts resources away from the poor and undermines good governance, constitutional democracy, human rights and the rule of law. I believe when public money is stolen for private gain, it means fewer resources to build schools, hospitals, roads, water treatment facilities and also the fight to crime. The vulnerable suffer first and worst. There were great expectations that South Africa, the world's youngest democracy, would be different, with its constitutional

commitments to equality, transparency, apartheid, redress and improving the lot of the poor and disadvantaged. But 22 years into democracy, corruption has become endemic, with government officials estimating that R30 billion of public funds are lost annually to graft. Nelson Mandela said “We need a collective sense of mission to change mindsets; and to steer the nation away from dangerous course. Democracy has taken root in our country and with it have come peace and political stability. But all this will be little more than the shifting sands of illusion, if we do not take decisive measures to strengthen the moral fibre of our nation.” As he retreated from public life, Mandela lamented: “Little did we suspect that our own people, when they got a chance, would be as corrupt as the apartheid regime. That is one of the things that has really hurt us.” South Africa is at a tipping point, where delivery of basic services to the poor communities is threatened by corrupt politicians, public service officials and individuals while the rest of society is left to struggle. Mahatma Gandhi argued: “ I would go to the length of giving the whole congress a decent burial, rather than put up with the corruption that is rampant.” (May 1939). Remember, righteousness must be practiced by all politicians then only we the people can live a better life. God bless South Africa. Political and Community Activist Roy Naidoo Darnall

Every drop counts? I took it upon myself to measure the loss of water at a leaking tap. This tap is situated at

the Town Hall. After learning about our drought situation, I expected those in charge to lead by example. Lo and behold, they merely provide a lip service as usual. Nevertheless, I placed a cup below the leak and it took approximately 10 minutes to fill up 250ml. this means in total the loss of water is 1 litre in 40 minutes. In a 24 hour period, how much water have we lost. You do the math. The second concern is the constant dripping of water outside the tote Woolworths area which I have not measured. Oh and most amazingly, did anyone notice the contraption placed in the centre of the pavement of that same spot? Thirdly, has anyone seen the water discharge outside the local court. I am told that there are pumps beneath the court building which throws out hundreds of litres of water every time the levels reach a certain height. Now, if this water which is obviously coming from some source beneath the court was sourced, it would add relief to many affected areas. Lastly, did someone touch a raw nerve when they raised the issue of Hullett Street being renamed and got authorities to decide to tar other roads in the CBD. If they did, well done, as we will now have some relief from the poor roads. But I am quiet sure this renaming will take place close to election time to swing votes in favour of the selfproclaimed saviours who have clearly lost the plot. Allow me to remind you councillors you are our servants who have been elected to serve us and not some authority who knows it all as you want to believe. Shame on you for believing that you are some sort of angelic being. You are ordinary people whom we expect to do ordinary things. The man in the shadows

COUNCILLOR'S CORNER The water pipeline replacement in Stanger Manor and Highridge hopefully will be completed by end of April 2016. The project is at its tail end. There were some serious challenges, by engaging Ilembe council and an amicable solution was agreed upon to complete the project. While the issues of unnecessary delays must be attended to immediately through intervention, it must be noted that the community and motorists have to endure with this endless state of poor road conditions. If all went well according to plan and co-operation the anticipated completion was March 2016. The municipality, consultants and contractors must find each

other in addressing the challenges and shortcoming currently experienced with the project. The frustration of the community has reached boiling point. Close monitoring and evaluation on weekly basis will lead to speedy completion of the project. Your cooperation and patience during this construction phase is appreciated. The prompt response and co-operation of the Ilembe Municipal Manager is appreciated in finding a win-win solution and continuing with the project. Any complaints must be lodged at the offices of SBT contractors opposite Engen Garage. Cllr Madhun Sobram Sing Ward 17

DR MAMA LATIFAH THANKS TO MAMA LATIFAH

THINGS HAPPEN!!

FOR BRINGING BACK MY WIFE.

CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to Warona Khazi and Liarah Mariemuthu for winning the “spot the difference” competition!

Professor Anguye

My name is Nathi aged 37 years living in Mandeni. If it wasn’t Mama Latifah I don’t know how could live my life without my wife. Am sorry to say so but I used to beat her everyday, I could come home drunk, I never knew why I was beating her and why I couldn’t stop drinking It used to hurt me whenever I saw her crying and wounded but still I continued doing the same thing, Which led her to leave my home and she went to her aunties place. I begged her to forgive me and come back home she refused my life became a real mess because she left me with a kid who had to be taken to school every morning but sometimes I couldn’t take him because of my too much drinking. Really I had confused life until when I saw Mama Latifah’s advert and I went to her she is so nice because the first thing she did was to give me muti that stopped me from drinking. Now am drinking no more. I went for my wife but she still couldn’t believe me still she refused to come home. So Mama gave me a muti which I used and it made come back home now we are a happy family again thanks to Mama Latifah. Call or Whatsapp :

Client: Dr Daudie can you briefly discuss to us how your magic ring works? Daudie: First and foremost, the magic ring was discovered in Egypt around 400 - 800BC by the Pharaoh. When you put the ring on the finger, it produces a fluid which circulates in the blood stream, it recharges the whole system with its powers and diseases are destroyed. Not only that but also it will affect your stay and change your lifestyle. It gives you success in love, boost business, make you attractive i.e. Attractive to the opposite sex for love and protect you in your journey. Furthermore, it will prevent you from being fooled by people and you will be capable of performing miracles. More still, it will protect you from evil powers & witchcraft i.e. Nothing can destroy your life any how and it can make lover faith i.e. Make him/ her love you alone. Gambling, like lotto, casino and machine play, 100% is guaranteed when the magic ring is used properly. Last but not the least, it will give you promotion in any field you want and it can be used to win court cases that is if you have a case to answer. That also apply's to student in an examination, there will be no difficult questions. Briefly that's how a magic ring works. Contact: DR DAUDIE

Randsons through to final of Xpress Times Easter tourney Randsons Volleyball Club are through to the finals of the K w a D u k u z a Vo l l e y b a l l Association Easter Tournament sponsored by Xpress Times as they beat Darnall Sporting 2-0 in an enthralling semi-final played last Thursday. Darnall gave their more experienced Randsons a run for their money in the first set, keeping them on their toes throughout matching them in every department. The difference between the two sides was the ever fresh Sandhir 'Tin Boy' Jugmohan who played his heart out to secure the first set 25-22 for Randsons. The second set was also evenly poised but man-of-the- match, Jugmohan assured Randsons a place for the second time this year after Randsons cruised to a 25-17

victory in the second set. Randsons had earlier secured their semi-final place after a convincing 25-19, 25-20 win over Cool Leaders. The shock of the evening was the upset caused by 2015 Division I winners, Sunbrook over 2015 runner up in the Premier League, KSST. This ought to be the hugest upset in volleyball history in KwaDukuza. Sunbrook were easily defeated 25-17 in the opening set. They stunned KSST in the second set beating them 25-21 to level matters and send the game into the final third set. The crowds expected a backlash from KSST but it was not to be. Sunbrook proved their mettle whilst the wheels of the KSST bus came off. Sunbrook cruised to a

The semi-final is poised for a humdinger when Sunbrook come up against their more illustrious counter parts Grove End in the semi-final schedule for tonight

(Wednesday) commencing at 7pm. Pundits have already predicted a Grove End/Randsons final, a repeat of the 2016 Top 8 final. Randsons' manager, Aslam Randeree is upbeat about tonight as he feels confident that his team will eventually bring the curtains down on Grove End's dominance of volleyball for the past four years.

Govender/Shanmagum lift Sham Padayachee mixed doubles KO

KwaDukuza Darts Association hosted the Sham Padayachee and family mixed doubles knockout tournament at the Quartz Conference in Stanger Manor last Wednesday and the duo of Jerry Govender and Darryl Shanmagum were in prolific form lifting the cup after defeating Vinesh Geanballey and Meersingh Sobram (making a dynamic comeback) in the final. Govender and Shanmagum started off their campaign with a hard fought victory over the experienced Paddy Padayachee and Sashen Naidoo. The duo came from a game down to beat the Padayachee/Naidoo duo 2-1 to book their place in the semi-final. Meanwhile, rookies Ashley Haripersadh and Ravolin Kaniappa added woes to Jason Moodley and Logan Moonsamy campaign beating them 2-0 to secure a place against Govender and Shanmagum in the semis. In the bottom half of the draw Geanballey and Sobram had a night to remember when they came up against Neeran Somnath and Preollen Muthoosamy. Finding themselves 1-0 down after the first game, they rallied around to corner their opponents and beat them in the final game to secure a 2-1 victory to secure their semi-final berth. Pravesh Ramdial and Preston Nadasen stunned the more illustrious Kevin Naidoo and Nine Pillay beating them 2-1 to

secure their place in the semi-final. In the first semi-final Govender and Shanmagum had a comfortable first game victory against Haripersadh and Kanniappa. Haripersadh and Kaniappa bounced back to level the score. However they lost steam in the final game allowing Govender and Shanmagum victory a a place in the final. The second semi-final between the combination of Geanballey and Sobram against Ramdial and Nadasen was also intriguing. Geanballey and Sobram were the first off the mark but Ramdial and Nadasen bounced back into contention to level the scores. However, the experienced pair of Geanballey and Sobram proved their mettle winning the final game to set up a mouth-watering final. Govender and Shanmagum were in no mood for defeat as they scantered to a 2-0 victory in the final. Ashley Haripersadh top scored in an astounding night of darts, scoring 171 (three triple 19). T o n i g h t (Wednesday) KDDA will host a team doubles tournament scheduled to ADVERTORIAL commence at 7pm at Cybertrade Paints was the Quartz.

The Smurfs Hiking Club was back in action in the D r a k e n s b e r g M o u n t a i n s . Demanding treks into the remote mountain cliffs made for a rewarding and spectacular adventure with cascading waterfalls, unusual rock formations and most impressively of all, the Bushman rock art paintings. These paintings date back as far as 5000 years old. The Drakensberg is known as the largest outdoor gallery in the world. The paintings represent important stages in life: birth, adulthood, marriage, hunting and traditional practices. However, at all times, these paintings depicts the immense respect these people of the mountains had for the natural and spiritual world. Today, 5000 years later, this sentiment is ever more relevant in our modern society that is rapidly decaying.
