Colonel Naicker said that the suspects forced the five people out of their vehicle and opened fire on them. “The taxi owner (48) and his driver (25) died instantly at the scene whilst other three victims managed to flee the scene unharmed,” he said. The taxi owner is identified as Mkhwenyana Ndodi Mhlongo according to a source. The suspects aged between 27 and 50 were found in possession of two R5 rifles (standard issue rifle of the South African National Defence Force or SANDF) and one revolver. Naicker also said that the three suspects will be charged for two murders, three attempted murders and for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Schools to benefit from Welfare Raffle Competition

“After receiving many complaints the Democratic Alliance (DA) held a meeting in Darnall on Sunday. The residents complained bitterly about the shoddy Reconstruction and Development Program (RDP) and houses not being plastered, having wide cracks. Some are staying there because they got nowhere else to go, and live in constant fear. The Housing authorities cannot turn a blind eye when people are suffering yet consultants and contractors are paid for their services to ensure proper houses are built. This must be investigated!” Councillor Madhun Sobram Sing DA constituency chairperson

The Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza is holding a raffle competition to raise funds for the society. According to Senior Social Work Manager, Penny Dhaver, the welfare society is extending an invitation to schools and business houses to participate in the raffle competition by selling raffle tickets for the society. “The raffle booklet will have 40 tickets with each ticket costing R5.00 each. The participating schools will retain 50% of income generated from ticket sales,” said Dhaver. The raffle competition will raise funds for the Society and simultaneously generate funds for schools. The draw will take place on Thursday, 31 January 2014. “We urge all schools to participate in this fundraising drive. The first, second and third prizes are beautiful lounge suites,” added Dhaver.

An 11-year-old Glenhills Primary School learner, Kiara Phekua, has been diagnosed with a very rare condition that requires special therapy which her family's medical aid is refusing to pay for this treatment. According to her doctor, Professor Rajendra Bhimma; who is a specialist paediatrician and paediatric nephrologist; Kiara is diagnosed with an Autoimmune Vasculitis Secondary to Henoch Schoenien Purpura and Secondary Nephrotic Syndrome. “In simple words it means that if Kiara has any further inflammation in her body, the small blood vessels begin to rupture and can prove life threatening,” says Bhimma. Straight TALK ISMAIL ASMAL Cell: 0832558337 Email: iasmal687@gmail.com

This time round… vote INTELLIGENTLY!! In a few weeks' time millions of billboards, pamphlets, posters, adverts, inbox spam messages and other forms of communication will attempt to penetrate your conscience and influence your perception as South Africa gears itself for the 2014 National/Provincial General Elections, which will take place between April and June 2014.The country will elect a new National Assembly which will govern the country for the next 5 years. This is the 5th general elections, since 1994, which signalled the end of apartheid. In the last elections in 2009, of the 400 seats, the ruling ANC took 264 and the DA took 67 seats, with the remainder being shared among the minority parties. The period 9-10 November has been set aside for voter registration of SA's 25 million voters. (You will need your ID for this purpose). Besides the ANC and DA, the usual parties will contest the elections (IFP, COPE, MF and newcomers, NFP, AGANG (Ramphele) EFF(Julius Malema), which may draw some votes away from the ANC. Indeed there will be lots of bluster from political leaders, doing their best to discredit other parties, who will all make many election promises, most of which will fall through cracks after the elections. Mr Jacob Zuma is very confident that he will remain in power, despite repeated corruption scandals, the unacceptably high crime level, poverty, political infighting, public riots, delivery backlogs, disgruntled shanty town dwellers, HIV/Aids, poorfunctioning municipalities (water, lights, sanitation), unemployment (1 in 4 are presently unemployed!), cracks in COSATU and the list goes on. Other facets that have tarnished Zuma's image are the huge scandals, multi-million rands Nkandla renovations to his private residence (PP's report still pending!), the Gupthagate saga, the death of SA soldiers in the Central African Republic, the non-delivery of textbooks in Limpopo and the biggest shame of all, the murder of 34 miners in the Marikana mines, which is the worst case of police brutality since the fall of the apartheid regime. This is an inflammable cocktail for the ANC, and what makes it worse is the total denial by Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa of the last incident. The ANC did little to firefight the problems and actually downplayed these crises. The ANC relies heavily for its support on its liberation legacy from white minority rule, but 2014 will be the first elections for young adults born after the end of apartheid in 1994. We will vote, and indeed we should! But this time round we have the ammunition, astuteness and evidence to show that 'something is rotten in the state of Denmark'. Actually it is very, very rotten indeed, with daily reported cases of corruption and nepotism. So the appeal is that you should vote for clean governance and not one where jobs are dished out to uneducated, blundering cronies because they were stalwarts of the struggle or served time on the 'island' because of their political affiliation. All that is over…the race card cannot be waved now that we are almost 20 years into democracy (?).We must vote with our heads and with all the available acumen, so that we don't repeat these bloopers and gaffes made by illiterates who parade as the epitome of proficient governance. Study the party policies, credentials and the manifestoes behind the faces. Do not appoint people who can neither read nor understand, and are only in office to collect the huge salary and perks. Psss…You may have noticed the flurry of activity in towns and cities with the tarring of roads, opening of new railway links, improved infrastructure, upgrading of facilities et al. Yes, this is a brilliant move to gain voter confidence in the ruling party. Vote wisely! Vote for a fair and progressive administration. Vote neither for the popularity of a person nor for his party. Do not simply throw away your vote. Appoint those who can work hard to solve your problems. Remember it's all about power. These sinister, baleful people will come to you with broad smiles and actually greet and shake hands, but all they want is to occupy those cushy seats without any meaningful work for the next 5 years. The taxpayer will have to sustain thousands of councilors, mayors, bodyguards and their extended families from the ever-dwindling treasury. I'll be monitoring the election campaigns and would like feedback from readers and candidates. Let's be proactive and ask them what they did in the past 5 years, and what they can do once voted into office for the next 5 years. Keep your thoughts flowing and the letters rolling.

Nevada student shoots teacher dead, wounds two before killing self (Reuters) - A student armed with a semi-automatic handgun killed a math teacher and critically wounded two classmates before killing himself at his Nevada middle school on Monday, law enforcement officials said. Witnesses described a chaotic scene at the school in the Northwestern Nevada town of Sparks, just east of Reno near the California border, after the gunfire erupted outside classrooms as students were arriving for the school day. The incident was the latest in a string of shooting rampages

Writing in Third Person Can Spark Recovery

(Scientific American Mind.com) - If a past ordeal continues to trouble you, try writing about it as if it happened to somebody else: “She crashed the car,” rather than “I crashed the car.” In a study that appeared in February in Stress and Health, doing so led to greater health gains for participants who struggled with trauma-related intrusive thinking, as measured by the number of days their normal activities were restricted by any kind of illness. “Thirdperson expressive writing might provide a constructive opportunity to make sense of what happened but from a safe distance that feels less immediate and threatening,” says Matthew Andersson, a graduate student in social psychology at the University of Iowa and a co-author on the study.

BABA ZAIN I USED MAGIC RING TO PAY MY DEBTS

The sheriff’s department and debt collectors have been harassing me for three years due to debts that have been lingering with me. Other events have happened including the department cutting off my electricity, cutting my telephone line and eventually my water supply was cut off. My son who was an alcoholic and was not employed. My sons depression led him to taking drugs. This was getting too much and in the end i ended up borrowing money from my friends because the banks did not want to loan me money because I was unemployed. As a pensioner I relied on the small income I got but was not enough also. Things got worse when some of my friends wanted their money back. One day I got home I see the local community paper in my post box. The first thing that captured my attention was a testimony by a women who had been saved from her debts by a Godly man called Baba Zain. I could not believe this and for a few hours I thought if I should consult Baba Zain. When I called him first thing that he had said that he knows I am in debt and should not stress. I felt relieved after that I decided to see Zain the following morning when I booked my appointment. During our consultation the man gave me a Magic Ring and told me that things were going to get better and that I would be able to get through my debts. Eventually after sometime I am debt free with Baba Zain miraculous help and his Magic Ring. I assisted my son to also get a good job at Toyota. This have been better for my family and we are growing stronger thanks to Baba Zain.

Telkom Knock out quarter final round up This weekend saw three of the four Telkom Knockout quarter finals been played. Supersport United became the first team to secure a place in the semi final by beating Moroka Swallows 3-1 at the Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon. Bradley Grobler broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. But, The Birds quickly replied as Edward Manqele took advantage of the sloppy United defence. It took extra time to decide the winner after the match had ended 1-all during regulation

time. On the stroke of half-time in extratime, Thuso Phala's shot beat Graig Etafia at Swallows' goal hands-down. He took advantage of the tiring Swallows back four, making it 3-1 to United which secured Supersport United a place in the Semifinals. While a slick, never-say-die Platinum Stars stunned Mamelodi Sundowns to secure a creditable 2-1 win in the Telkom Knockout cup quarter-final at the Moruleng Stadium on Saturday night. It was Sundowns who started with a flourish and opened the score in the 13th minute through a deflected ground shot sizzler from Togolese international Dove Specialist work on appointment Wome. scoring the winning goal from close-range in the 70th minute after a shot from Mthembu was deflected into his path by a Sundowns defender. Then on Sunday Kaizer Chiefs beat Free State Stars 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals at the Charles Mopeli stadium, after a one-all draw. Chiefs were given a lifeline to go one up with a penalty but Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker's effort was saved by Daniel Agyei. Stars were awarded their own penalty, which Sadate Ouko Akorike converted. The Glamour boys equalised courtesy of Knowledge Musona on the stroke of fulltime. The two teams huffed and puffed in extra time, and it boiled down to the lottery of a penalty shootout. Itumeleng Khune was the hero in the spot kicks after he saved two penalties to send Chiefs to the next round. The final quarter final match will be played today Wednesday, 23 October, when Orlando Pirates host Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium.

Pirates road to Champions League Final UP THE BUCS: Rooi Mahamutsa celebrates his crucial away goal that saw Pirates clinch a place in the CAF Champions League final

Orlando Pirates booked their spot in the African Champions League Final after drawing 1-1 with Esperance in the second leg of their last-four tussle on Saturday night. The Bucs will face Al Ahly in next month's showpiece decider, advanced via the away goals rule, with Rooi Mahamutsa netting a crucial 51st minute opener at the Olympic Stadium of Rades. Iheb Msakni equalised four minutes later but it was not enough for the Tunisian giants following the goalless stalemate in the first leg at Orlando Stadium. Esperance dictated the pace of the game early on, and thrice, around the half-hour mark, triggered unconvincing stops from Senzo Meyiwa, who needed the woodwork to assist at one stage. Earlier, Pirates winger Tlou Segolela had a great chance to score in the 18th minute when put through one-on-one with the keeper but opted to cross to Lennox Bacela, with his delivery easily intercepted. The Sea Robbers showed

intent straight after the break, with Bacela squeezing a shot wide before Daine Klate's close range header was brilliantly foiled by Moez Ben Cherifa in the 49th minute. Mahamutsa broke the deadlock soon after as he headed in a Segolela corner from the right at the near post. The lead was short-lived, though, as Msakni swept in a right-wing cross in the 55th minute. Stand-in captain Happy Jele headed a Segolela cross from the right on to the upright, with Bacela blasting over on the rebound. However, Roger de Sa's men, who were playing their 13th game of the competition, ultimately held their nerve to thwart the two-time continental champions, despite some tense moments in the closing stages. The Final will take place across two legs, with the opening duel scheduled for the first weekend of November. Pirates are the only South African side to have won CAF's premier club tournament, achieving the feat in 1995.

Mama Rashim

Sometimes God tests us to see what we can do. It wasn’t easy for me for the past 6 years. My name is Mohammed Bawn from Hutten Heights. Like I said above, my wife left me for another man with my children. She left me with nothing. As a man without a family, you’re nothing. I tried to buy expensive cars and gifts but nothing changed. That's when I saw Mama Rashim advert in the newspapers and heard people talking about him. I decided to go to him. When I went to see him, he was so friendly and he gave me hope that one day i would get my family back. Although I couldn't believe he prayed because I had no faith. Things started tto change when I started having faith in him. Now I am with my lovely wife and children. He only charged me R200

The Smurfs do it again Nine brave hikers from the Smurfs Hiking Club took on the rugged mountains of Southern Drakensberg on the South African/Lesotho border. Gruelling sandstorms and ferocious wind speeds could not damper the spirits of theses hardcore mountain adventurers. The club successfully summited Sani Pass at an altitude of 8600 feet. A special mention must go out to the youngest member of the club, Ruwaal Lutchman of Tugela who inspired and displayed enormous strength during this challenging adventure. Known for their determined spirit of adventure, the Smurfs Hiking Club once again proved that there is more to experience in life outside your comfort zone. Till the next adventure….Don't talk the talk, but walk the walk.
