Cameron was addressing delegates during the first Climate Action Coordination Workshop at the Ocean Reef Hotel in Zinkwazi which looked at climate change mitigation strategies and how the municipality will be dealing with the effects of carbon emissions across mainstream service departments under the theme, “Mainstreaming Climate Change in the IDP”. governments dedicated to sustainable development. ICLEI is a powerful movement of 12 megacities, 100 super-cities and urban regions, 450 large cities as well as 450 small and medium-sized cities and towns in 84 countries. KwaDukuza is one of the few South African municipalities to have signed the Compact of Mayors and we continue to report globally on our efforts on promoting climate change and energy efficiency. This approach fulfils its vision of being a competitive and global player as it progresses towards becoming a sustainable city by 2030. While KwaDukuza Municipality continues to promote and position itself as a green economy investor destination, the focus on green jobs is being promoted by ensuring that our economic infrastructure is energy efficient and works to ensure that its environmental assets

and natural resources are well protected and continually enhanced. KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu has made enormous progress in accelerating sustainable socio-economic development together with leading cities within the African continent and abroad, drawing from his contributions to the knowledge economy for affordable access to broadband and usage of Information Communication Technologies (ICT). In February, Mthembu signed the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy together with international cities and local governments who share long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to combat climate change and move towards a low emission, resilient society. In 2015, Mayor Mthembu signed the largest coalition of city leaders in dealing with climate change challenges. He is amongst thirtysix leading mayors who have declared to comply with the new international Compact of Mayors. This is a global coalition of mayors and city leaders who have pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions, track progress on Continued on Page 4

The South African Police Service has been working tirelessly to curb the high rate of crime as indicated by recent statistics. On 19 September 2018, heavily armed Zimbabwean men were gunned down after allegedly robbing a bank. It is alleged that suspects fleeing in a BMW were intercepted by SAPS near Mandeni. In a separate incident on the N2 freeway near Nyoni, a joint

operation by various police units was conducted along the N2. Police spotted the vehicle used by the suspects travelling on the north bound lane. As police officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, the two occupants allegedly opened fire at police, damaging a police vehicle in the process. The two suspects were fatally wounded during the shootout with police officers. The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi

has commended the swift response of law enforcement. “Despite being attacked by these armed suspects our police officers fought back. Criminals must know that police officers will always defend themselves and members of the community when they are attacked. We will not be intimidated by these criminals and we will continue with our plans aimed at reining in wanted armed robbers in this province,” he said.

CCG back in court over mall opening By Xpress Reporter

The feud between Concerned Citizens Group (CCG) and Vivian Reddy of Double Ring Trading is fuelling up as the CCG has applied to the Durban High Court to interdict this week's planned opening of the multimillion-rand KwaDukuza Mall. It is alleged that the developer of the mall is yet to secure the occupation certificate from KwaDukuza Municipality. Banks and stores have already moved to the new mall awaiting the opening day scheduled for 27 September 2018. KwaDukuza Municipality confirmed that it has received an application for Temporary Occupation from the developer of the KwaDukuza Mall. “KwaDukuza Municipality would like to confirm that it has received an application for the Temporary Occupation Certificate from the Developer. The affecting municipality business units and ILembe District Municipality environmental health unit officials will conduct a joint inspection on the 25th of September 2018. This process will allow the officials to provide comments to the Building Control Officer, who have to make a recommendation to the authorised officer or EXCO to approve or

decline this application. The municipality will follow the National Building Regulations to consider this application, which should be done within the period of 14 days. The municipality expects the developer and their tenants to comply with all laws and regulations before they operate their business and this include the Business Act and Liquor Act,” said the statement issued by KwaDukuza Municipality. The Municipality shed some light on the issue that plans to widen a road leading to the mall were yet to be approved. They confirmed that on the 30th of August 2018, a stop work notice to the developer was issued, which the developer complied and stopped their road upgrade works pending the approval of both TIA and Wayleaves applied from various entities. “The Developer has complied with the stop work of widening the road leading to the mall. The project steering committee to oversee the upgrade has been formed and met on the 17th of September 2018. It shall be noted, that KwaDukuza Municipality is working closely with the developer to ensure that it complies with its conditions and ensure that the interest of pedestrian and public in general is taken care off.

Major victory for CCG By Xpress Reporter

The Concerned Citizens Group (CCG) launched an urgent interdict in the Durban High Court against the KwaDukuza Municipality for the developer Double Ring Trading to stop the mall from opening for business without a lawful certificate of occupancy. In court yesterday, the senior advocates representing the

KwaDukuza Municipality and Double Ring Trading gave the court an undertaking that the mall would not be open without the relevant Certificate of Occupancy being issued. According to Haroon Mahommedy (CCG Chairperson) this is a major victory for citizens who are concerned about safety and other issues for pedestrians and

motorists who will be negotiating the dangerous intersection on Chief Albert Luthuli Street. “If the occupation certificate is not lawfully issued we reserve the right to make a fresh application to court to continue the interdict proceedings and to review the decision to grant such occupation even if such certificate is temporary,” said Mahommedy.

Around 100 Etete residents barricaded King Shaka Street on 21 September 2018, demanding charges of trespassing to be withdrawn. It is alleged that in March, a large number of residents from Etete invaded and demarcated plots with shacks in an undeveloped land in Etete. The land is allegedly owned by a family from Tongaat. The alleged owner of the land accompanied by Umhlali SAPS allegedly demolished the shacks, stating that residents wrongfully Redisson 1,7 litre Kettle

built them. On 09 July 2018, Umhlali SAPS arrested 17 Etete residents and charged them for trespassing. Last Friday, the accused appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court for the third time after their case had been postponed twice before. Khulekani Mkhize from Etete, who is among the accused, said that the land they invaded had become a hotspot for criminal activities in the area. “As residents of Etete we strongly believe we were wrongfully arrested. we demand charges of trespassing to be withdrawn. The land we are also accused of invading belongs to Chief Magwaza,” said Mkhize. The KwaDukuza Magistrates court postponed the case to 26 October 2018, and will be now be handled by the Regional court. Vinny Pillay, spokesperson of Umhlali SAPS confirmed that residents were arrested and charged for trespassing. “The accused were arrested for trespassing the land which does not belong to them,” confirmed Pillay.

KwaDukuza SAPS under fire By Xpress Reporter

An increase in serious violent crime such as murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery are of particular concern to all KwaDukuza residents and the KwaDukuza SAPS has come under criticism especially from the Democratic Alliance. In June 2018, DA, accompanied by Deputy Shadow Minister of Police Dianne Kohler-Barnard MP had an oversight inspection at KwaDukuza SAPS, the inspection came after a meeting where concerned KwaDukuza

residents voiced their concerns that the spate of crime and drugs has overtaken this community. On 20 September 2018 Minister of Police Bheki Cele added salt to the wound when he replied to parliamentary questions from the DA. In a written reply, Cele articulated some disturbing facts that only 42 of the murders reported in the region even made it to court. “Out of 151 cases of rape recorded, just 80 made it to court, with a mere five convictions. Housebreakings recorded in the town were at a whopping 828. However, just 87 made it to court

and, of those, only five convictions were successful. Hijacking statistics also left much to be desired. In 27 reported cases, just five made it to court, with no convictions making hijackings a consequence-free crime in KwaDukuza over the last year. There were also zero convictions for theft of motor vehicles, even though 106 cases were reported. Of those, only three made it to court,” revealed Cele. Attempts to reach KwaDukuza SAPS for a comment were unsuccessful at the time of going to press.

KDM to launch 'Youth in Business Forum’ By Xpress Reporter

The KwaDukuza Municipality's Youth, Sports and Gender portfolio committee held a meeting on 07 September 2018 at the KwaDukuza Council Chamber to discuss recommendations that require council approval. KwaDukuza Municipality will launch the KwaDukuza Youth in Business Forum which sets out to encourage young entrepreneurs, by providing them the place to exchange ideas and discuss issues of their interest or public interest. “This forum is set to bring unity amongst young business people in KwaDukuza, promote the spirit of sharing no matter how small the slice is, it may identify business opportunities in favour of local businesses operating in KwaDukuza

and owned by young people. “The young entrepreneurs will get an opportunity to be educated about growing their businesses to contribute to the local economy. The KwaDukuza Youth In Business Forum will be held on the 26th October 2018 at the KwaDukuza Town Hall from 08h00 to 16h00.” A Disability Sports Day is scheduled for this year. “The Disability sports day is an initiative of ILembe and King Cetshwayo District Department of Sports and Recreation, working closely with disability forums. ILembe District Selections are on 05 October 2018, Stanger High School Grounds at 09h00. Provincial Disability Festival is on the 09-11 November 2018, Stanger High School Grounds at 08h00.”

Celebrating Heritage Month By Xpress Reporter

Heritage Month is celebrated annually in September. It recognises aspects of South African culture which are both tangible and intangible: creative expression such as music and performances, our historical inheritance, language, the food we eat as well as the popular memory. Heritage Day was observed on 24 September, and recognises and celebrates the cultural wealth of our nation. South Africans celebrate the day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa. Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day. South Africa celebrated Heritage Day under the theme: “The Year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: Advancing transformation of South Africa's heritage landscape.” Communities are encouraged to safeguard and protect our cultural heritage and institutions for future generations. We must work to ensure that our diverse cultures and heritage reflect all our identities without any distortions. South Africans should take pride by living in a country with the following eight declared World Heritage sites: Fossil Hominid Sites of South Africa, iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Robben Island, Maluti-Drakensberg Park, Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape, Cape Floral Region Protected Areas,

Vredefort Dome, Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape, Khomani Cultural Landscape. These sites are of great significance to all South Africans and should be preserved for the future generations. The Xpress Times engaged with the residents of KwaDukuza regarding the importance of Heritage Day and what it means to them as citizens of this beautiful rainbow nation. Here's what they had to say:

Sibongamandla Dlomo “I think heritage is amongst the very important aspects that remind us of our beings as to who we really are and where we come from and what are our values because somehow we have forgotten and have adapted to all the principalities of this world. Culturally we were all raised well.”

Educators, Miss Brenda Charmaine Kallu and Miss Sthembile Thusi “Heritage Day is all about embracing cultural diversity and that can only be defined by how you love and respect each other's cultures and come together as a nation.”

Shanil Singh “Heritage Day unites and enables all South Africans to reflect on their true origins. Celebrating this day also signifies how insignificant racism is in our society. We are all one.”

Preshana Lutchminarain “People from all walks of life come as one to celebrate different cultures and beliefs of the diverse South Africa.”

KwaDukuza celebrates its diverse heritage By Xpress Reporter

In September, South Africans come together to commemorate their diverse cultures. On 22 September in an event held at ILembe Auditorium, KwaDukuza Municipality gave a platform to upcoming artists who are doing traditional music to showcase what it means to be truly African. Artists from Maskandi, Imfene, Isigeke and Indlamu graced the event and showcased their magnificent talent in a packed house. Speaking at the event Cllr

A. Ngidi urged South Africans to embrace and tolerate diversity. “September marks a month where we reflect on our diverse cultures as a rainbow nation which make us unique from other nations. As KwaDukuza Municipality we are committed to uplift young people from KwaDukuza to reach their full potential,” said Cllr Ngidi. The flying unicorn Sara was a unicorn. She was a very special unicorn, and her tribe considered her one of the greatest creatures in the world, for Sara had wings, and she could fly. Great big gossamer wings the

colour of moonlight, could take her soaring into the air above, her white body gleaming in the sun at day, and sparkling in the moon-and star-light at night. She was a happy and goodnatured animal and made friends with everyone, even humans. She liked little children, who always stared at her in wonder and delight. One little girl was her special friend.

back, Sara flew off into the air, climbing higher and higher, with the little girl screaming in delight. She held on tightly to Sara and looked down at the ground that seemed so very far away. The houses and trees looked like toys. The river looked like a blue line drawn on one of her drawing pages. Birds flew past her chirping a friendly greeting and she waved at them in return. Soon it was time to return to the ground, and when she landed she hugged Sara tightly and said, “Thank you so much, dear friend. That was lovely.”

One day when they were walking in the forest, Minnie asked Sara, “Dear Sara, would you please, please, take me up with you into the great big sky? I want to see the world from up there. Please, Sara?” “Of course, I will, my little friend. Would you like to go now?” Sara asked, looking down at Minnie. “Yes please,” Minnie shouted, jumping up and down in excitement. Keeping children safe from kidnapping

The tragedy of Miguel Louw, may his soul rest in peace, has left families and parents (especially) across the country; in a vexing state of anxiety and helplessness as it relates to their children. In KwaDukuza, our citizens have taken to social media (Facebook in particular) engaging and talking about ideas to safeguard against this heinous trend of child kidnapping especially with regard to schoolchildren. All law enforcement agencies public and private are crucial to protecting our children, really… our children, during these alarming times. Through Whatsapp our local Crime Alert Groups, with security companies and citizens also on there, are foiling and thwarting crimes in real time. You guys are the innovators and you would have stellar ideas on smashing child kidnapping. A plea also to our Community Policing Forums (CPF) across our municipality to do what you do best and innovate with a sustained plan to safeguard against possible kidnappings. One of the challenges of being a parent is teaching your children to be cautious without filling them with fear or anxiety. Talk to your kids often about safety, and give them the basics on how to avoid and escape potentially dangerous situations. *Teach children to: · Never accept sweets, chocolates or gifts from a stranger. · Never go anywhere with a stranger, even if it sounds like fun. (Predators can lure kids with questions like "Can you help me find my lost puppy?" or "Do you want to see some cute

Reassure kids that it's OK to tell you even if the person made them promise not to or threatened them in some way. · Always ask permission from a parent to leave the house, yard, or play area or to go into someone's home. Be aware of your children's internet activities and chat room "friends," and remind them never to give out personal information. · Avoid posting identifying information or photos of your kids online. Advice to parents to impart: · Set boundaries about the places your kids go. Supervise them in places like malls, movie theaters, parks, public bathrooms, or while fundraising door to door. · Never leave kids alone in a car or stroller, even for a minute. · Choose caregivers babysitters, childcare providers, and

Modric breaks Ronaldo-Messi dominance Croatia to reach the World Cup final for the first time. He beat Ronaldo and Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah to the prize. Modric's success means Ronaldo remains tied with Messi having won FIFA's award in different guises five times each. Luka Modric broke a decade of award dominance by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi after being crowned world footballer of the year by FIFA on Monday (24th September). At 33, Croatia's run to the final was the culmination of a brilliant career for Modric that had often been overshadowed by Ronaldo's goalscoring in their time together in the Spanish capital, before the Portuguese left for Juventus in July. Modric scored twice and also

Councillor’s Corner

netted in penalty shootout wins over Denmark and Russia, but it was his playmaking ability that caught the eye in winning the Golden Ball for the best player at the World Cup. "It was an unbelievable season, the best season in my life," said Modric. "I'm still not realising how good a year I had collectively, individually, and I'm very proud for everything I achieved this year and it will be remembered forever." For a sixth straight season, Ronaldo was the Champions League's top scorer with 15 goals and also scored four times at the World Cup, including a hat-trick against Spain in a thrilling 3-3 draw to open Portugal's campaign. However, Portugal's last 16 exit to Uruguay in Russia and Ronaldo's failure to score in the semi-finals or final of the

Champions League opened the door for Modric. Neither Ronaldo or Messi attended the glitzy ceremony in London with both in action for Juventus and Barcelona respectively on Wednesday. For the first time in 12 years, Messi was not among the finalists with third place going to Salah for his incredible 44goal debut season with Liverpool that carried the Reds to the Champions League final. However, a shoulder injury suffered early on in the final robbed Salah of the chance to help Liverpool lift the trophy and also meant he was far from peak condition as he led Egypt's World Cup bid. Salah did not go away empty handed, however, as he picked up the Puskas award for best goal for his strike against Everton in the Merseyside derby last December.

Despatched A despatcher at a liquor store has lost his job after he allegedly stole 21 bottles of Smirnoff 750ml valued at R2600. According to staff members the despatcher checked a customer's purchases and took two cases of Smirnoff claiming that it was bought by the customer. The second despatcher also checked the invoice but no purchase was done for the Smirnoff. The tellers became suspicious as they too had no knowledge of the purchases. The culprit advised his co- despatcher that he was going to the toilet and he never returned. Presen Naidoo (25) of Sunny Park was arrested two days after the incident. He is due back at court on the 11 October 2018.

Ungrateful builders Xolani Bondo of Groutville alleges he was returning home when he met two local youths. They requested a beer and he purchased it for them. On his way home he noticed they were following him, one drew a knife and threatened him. They searched him and found R1500 cash which they took and fled

with. He was accompanied by police and identified his two attackers. Wonderboy Mthembu (30) a bricklayer and his foreman Msakayise Mthembu (25) are due back at court on the 6 November 2018.

Abandoned hope All hope is not lost for those who strongly want to mend their ways. However the will to change must come from within. Last week Nadine Lucas of Warrenton returned home and found her house broken into. Clothing, sugar and other groceries were missing. Locals advised her that they saw a known female with the items. Lucas went to the clinic with a vender who returned the items, she went to the culprit's house with the police and the culprit took them to a lady in the CBD who purchased two 10kg bags of sugar for R35. Andrea Lee Lalsingh (20) who has a history of drug abuse is due back at court on the 31 October. Bail was set at R2000.

Calm victim A 30 year old woman alleges she was raped by a stranger on 1 September. She was contacted

by her sister to come with them for a braai at her boyfriend's place. On her way to meet them an unknown man approached her and dragged her into the sugarcane field. Realising he was going to injure she played along with him, allowed the rape and even asked him to accompany her to her sister's place. Upon arriving at her sister's place the sister's boyfriend knew the man and she reported what transpired. The man insisted that she was his girlfriend but did not know her name. Judging by the injuries they realised she was telling the truth and contacted the police. The culprit fled and was arrested two days later with the help of the sister's boyfriend at his workplace. A 34 year old man is due at court this week to seek bail.

Local students at dance show

Injustice One man appeared in court on Friday on a charge of murder. According to a witness the deceased who has been identified as Thulani Junior Zwane (29) was picked up by a local contractor who assaulted him for stealing a battery from a vehicle belonging to his company. Zwane was later picked up by another group of males who also accused him of stealing from them. His beaten body was found a short while later. Molem Class Kolater (35) has been granted bail whilst the second group who assaulted the deceased remain at large.

Thank you DR RASHID for changing my life. I am Bandile Mkhize from Ballito and I wish I knew DR RASHID long time before I wasted a lot of money to many herbalists and doctors. At first I did not trust Dr RASHID because other doctors used to take my money without giving results. MAMA ALISHA

SISTER SHAMMY

THANKS ALOT MAMA ALISHA I am Salashnee from Shakaville Stanger. I’m here to thank Mama Alisha for helping me sell my property at a reasonable price. I was a proud Mother of 3 kids and was happily married. But my life turned upside down in 2014 when I lost all my 3 kids and their father in a road accident. I survived because I was at work that day. Since then I have panic attacks, My families memories were killing me and I decided to sell the house in 2015. Many people used to call come see the house but they don’t come back up to when I went to MAMA ALISHA after reading about her in the newspaper. She came to the house , blessed it and told me she will do the rest at her place of work. I was surprised when just in two weeks a buyer was found and I was given a reasonable amount of money. For more help to sell or buy a property quickly and at a good price call or whatsapp

BEYOND THE TOUCHLINE Our pessimism of the recent past was removed beyond our realistic belief when the Springboks lifted our spirits by defeating the invincible All Blacks in Wellington by the narrow margin of 36 34. If the kicking boots of fly-half Beauden Barrett were in their usual top form, the result would definitely have gone the other way. He uncharacteristically missed 4 conversions and hit the upright twice while the SA kicker, Handre Pollard, was on target with 4 conversions and a penalty. This win brought to an end a string of defeats at the hands of NZ, the last being under coach, Peter de Villiers. This performance was a turn-up for the books as Springbok fans were contemplating another heavy loss after consecutive defeats to Argentina and Australia. But this time round all those involved in the Springbok set-up, coaches, backroom staff and players, threw their bodies "on the line" and their combined efforts bore the desired result. The confidence of the supporters has been restored and they look optimistically at the home encounters against the Wallabies and the All Blacks. Who knows? The Springboks may even win the Rugby Championship as there is a mathematical chance for such an outcome. In such a win there has to be heroes in a virtual team display. After going down 12-0 in their perennial fashion within a few minutes of the start, they re-grouped rather than imploding and hit back through a magnificent try by the rising star of SA rugby, Aphiwe Dyanti, another Bryan Habana in the making. He scored another later in the match and this, together with resolute defence by the pack who were able to repel the All Blacks in the last minute, ensured a Springbok victory. Captain Siya Kolisi and coach, Rassie Erasmus was full of praise for the whole squad who defended resolutely when the All Blacks could have stolen the match at the death. A thoroughly satisfying weekend for SA rugby that has lifted the mood of its fanatical supporters. We can now look forward with a semblance of confidence to the home encounters in the knowledge that the All Blacks will come back with a vengeance. Springboks beware!

To HELP us make a difference

The cricket series between India and England ended in a Jayce Singh is a former 4-1 win for the home country sports administrator and Patron of the KZNCU after they won the 5th and last test by 118 runs. Good batting performances by opener KL Rahul (149) and new find wicket-keeper, Rishal Pant (114) enabled India to get reasonably close to a virtual impossible target of 463 runs. The series score is not a true reflection of the closeness as some of the matches could have gone either way. Perhaps a 3-2 result in favour of England would have been more realistic since only the 2nd and 3rd tests were conclusive victories for either side. With the retirement of Allister Cook, England is left with an opening pair problem. Keaton Jennings has not proved to be a consistent opener and is in danger of losing his place for the tour to Sri Lanka. For India, Pant is an exciting prospect and should develop to be an exciting replacement for the iconic MS Dhoni after the 2019 World Cup. He has made an impressive debut. The last word. SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) is the premier sports body in the country and, as such, the citizens of the country expect administration of the highest order and ethical conduct beyond reproach. But the shenanigans that occur in this august body defiles the esteem that this organisation should uphold. Unauthorised expenditure, exorbitant amounts spent for air travels and daily transport and other anomalies around finance have led to a ministerial committee of enquiry into the umbrella body's governance issues. This does not speak well of a body whose officials are accountable for the control of millions of rands of public funds. It is hoped that when this saga is over, a clean sweep will be affected and those who are responsible for illegally spending money that does not belong to them must face the full might of the law. Until the next time, have a happy sporting weekend

The third prize went to Grade 5 learner, Thandolwethu Gumbi, who won a microwave oven, courtesy of Selogen Govender of Dubai, for his contribution of R1103. Singh, Principal of Amatikulu was elated with the outcome of the fundraising effort and attributed its success to the continued support of parents, learners and broader school community. Said Singh: “Our fundraisers are getting better each year, thanks to our hard working band of educators, SGB members, parents and learners. We also remain indebted to the many sponsors who supported us diligently over the years and through whose efforts the school is able to continuously provide quality teaching and learning to the learners of this vibrant community.” The funds raised will be used for school projects.

Manor clinch Shivendra Velan sixes title Manor Primary School clinched the Shivendra Velan memorial sixa-side cricket title after beating KwaDukuza Primary by 4-wickets in the final played at the Manor Ground on yesterday. Manor booked their place in the final after beating Beaches in the semi's by 4-wickets and KwaDukuza Primary scraped a place in the final after beating hosts Dawnview with the last ball (thanks to a wide bowled by Ashram) of the match on Thursday. In the playoffs for 3rd spot, Ashram batted first and were bundled out for 25 runs in their allotted 5-overs with Curtis Mbathwe (10) the only batsman to register double digits. In reply, Beaches cantered to a comfortable 5-wickets with man-of-the match Hansie Dippener top scoring with 12-runs.

In the final, KwaDukuza Primary batted first but were dismissed for a paltry 19 runs in their allotted 5overs with Kieran Subrayan (6) and Leon Dalliah (5) the only batsmen to offer any resistance. Sujayan Moonie (12) and Samir Kolia (9 not out) guided Manor to a comfortable 4-wickets victory with more than three overs to spare. Hansie Dippener, who excelled with the bat and ball was voted batsman and bowler of the tournament. Sujayan Moonie scooped the fielding accolade. Principal of Manor Primary, Isaac Abraham thanked all schools for participating in the tournament and was indebted to the Ravi Velan family for sponsoring the tournament for the l0th year in succession in memory of his late son, Shivendra who passed away as a learner at Manor Primary in 2008.

winning the next doubles before entering the crucial singles (501) stage. Leon Moonsamy gave Quartz glimmer of hope beating the formidable inform Vinesh Geanballey. With the scores poised for a thriller, Jerry Govender restored Darnall's nerves by securing a game victory against Julian Munisamy. However, Quartz did not sit backon their laurels as both Kyle and Rowan Pillay defeated Nine Pillay and Jerry Arunachellum in final two singles adding respectability to the score. Darnall won 5-4. In the other game played, Singh's Fireworks produced their own fireworks cruising to a comfortable 6-3 win over Red Bold. Singh's were in the team events winning 3-0 but shared the spoils in the doubles and singles.
