Help SAPS and your community stay ahead of crime In keeping with the current crime trends, the KwaDukuza SAPS appeals to the community at large to be on the lookout for the following aspects contributing to crime: ILLEGAL FIREARMS: There are currently many illegal firearms in circulation and are utilised to commit serious crime. Always be alert concerning unknown or suspicious persons in your vicinity as they may be in possession of concealed, illegal firearms and looking for opportunity to commit serious crime. WOMEN AND CHILDREN are generally viewed as soft targets by criminals in general and more prone to become victims of serious, contact crime including sexual offences, domestic abuse, assaults, robberies and murders. Any

known cases of abusive and criminal behaviour directed at women or children should be immediately reported to the police (SAPS). Very often these victims are afraid or unable to help themselves. HUMAN TRAFFICKING is currently a scourge worldwide and the community must report any known incident of persons or syndicates involved in human trafficking. Missing persons are often reported and nothing further is known about victims who are often never seen again. It is a harsh reality that exists in our society today and we must aim to put an end to it. The police look forward to working closer with our communities and therefore persons are requested to enroll as registered informers, whose identities will be kept

confidential at all times. Informer fees are paid out to informers for successful information in respect of serious crime. AV O I D B E C O M I N G A VICTIM of crime by always being alert, and observant of your immediate vicinity. Criminal attacks are unannounced and amount to surprise attacks. Do not expose your valuables either on your person, in your vehicle or around your residence. *All information in light of the above will be treated in the strictest of confidence and can be channelled telephonically or personally at SAPS KWA DUKUZA on 10111 or 0325518206, or the cluster office at 032-5518223. Together, we are doing it! We aim to do even better!

Child Protection Week Child Protection Week is held from 27 May to 2 June 2016. The theme is: “Let's all protect children to move South Africa Forward.” Child protection is everyone's responsibility and we are inviting the community of KwaDukuza to join hands with us to be part of the solution in combating child abuse. Today's world can be a cruel and unsafe place for many children. Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza is a child protection organization whose mission is the optimum care and protection of our children in our community. As a non- profit organization that depends on community support, we would like you to partner with us during child protection week to help us continue to fulfill our mission. We encourage the community to wear green to show their support this cause. Since 2004, the color green was associated with child protection as it symbolizes conservation, self respect, hope and growth of life. The society's inaugural fundraiser, Project L³ Live, Love and Learn depicts the child protection theme.

These items must be worn during child protection week to show your support towards victims of child abuse. Schools, service providers, business houses and the community are urged to support this worthy cause. Call the Society on 032 551 2129 to place your order for badges at R10 and

wristbands at R15 respectively. By wearing green, people are saying that children matter and they are committing to the protection of children. You will also be promoting the rights, care and protection of children. Child Welfare will be conducting awareness

programmes on child abuse, neglect, children's rights, child trafficking and child labor at selected primary and secondary schools. The programme will be conducted by a team of five Social Workers and two community workers. Reducing the high levels of violence against children is

one of South Africa's most overwhelming tasks. Despite the country's progressive child protection laws, policies and programmes preventing and addressing violence against children, it still remains a major challenge. We are looking forward to joining hands with the

EMPOWERING: Annet Sewraj inspired female police officers at the Umhlali Police Station recently

By Xpress Reporter

The female police officers of Umhlali Police Station got the chance to kick off their boots and slip into their heels on Wednesday, 18 May 2016, as they celebrated their womanhood with Nation Builders (NGO focused on the development of women and children and community upliftment). Nation Builders conducted an empowering talk on self-development for the women police officers who were treated to a delicious high tea held at the Umhlali Police Station. They were also entertained with a dance performance and a poetry recital. Present at the event was Dr Poobalan Pillay who gave an informative health talk pertaining to woman's health issues. Motivational speaker and founder of Nation Builders, Annet Michelle Sewraj also inspired and

Roguish habits Employees earning too little do not appreciate their jobs and resort to acts which cost them that proverbial “half a loaf”. Yellamah Arumugam of Glenhills alleges that she returned home and noticed that a grille and angle grinder was missing from the premises, together with a tool box. According to a worker, Siya Ntuli, a co-worker took the items, swore him and walked off with them. Eugene Naidoo (27) was arrested in connection with the matter and was released on bail. He is expected

back at court on 28 June. Mob injustice rules The Groutville area is fast becoming a no-go zone for criminals. According to Njabulo Mthembu, he was approached by two youths accusing him of stealing taps in the area. He requested to question the so-called witness and accompanied them to a nearby house. The so-called witness could not be found and both youths began assaulting him with sticks, sjamboks and an iron rod. Police have managed to arrest Bongamusa

Party blues Last week, a 25-year-old Zamani resident appeared in court for the rape of a 30-yearold woman from the same area. She alleges that at 01:00am, she was at a party and was requested to bring liquor from a nearby house. On her way back she was held up at gunpoint, taken into a nearby sugarcane field and repeatedly raped and sexually abused. She managed to escape after telling her attacker that she had dropped a sum of money nearby. As he searched, she fled naked and reported to her family. The culprit will seek bail this week.

XPress Idiotic stepson Wheelchair bound Moses Mhlongo (66) has become a victim of his stepson's arrogance. According to Mhlongo, the stepson was dishing up a large quantity of food. When asked to consider others in the household, he became aggressive and picked up the wheelchair, as Mhlongo sat on the bed, to assault him. His wife stepped in to prevent the matter getting out of hand. However, the stepson grabbed a cane-knife and struck the old man on the head causing an open injury. Musa Mthembu (33) has been remanded in custody pending a bail decision this week.

Glenhills Women's Circle HEARTWARMING: The Glenhills Women's Circle (GWC) visited the Velamehtlo Hospice on Thursday, 19 May 2016. Together with the ladies of the Tinley Manor Beach Social Club, they handed out a 100 gifts and served a signature style mutton breyani

balance to pay the municipal increase of 17% + Vat. You will realize the present economic situation. There has been massive price increases in the basic food stuff (including milk and bread) fuel, toll fees and repo rate. Ilembe must reduce the increase from 17 to 6.7%. The Municipaliies should realize that many people live on fixed incomes and also have various other commitments (bond, grocery bills, clothing, children's education). In the real world, money does not stretch and wages do not go up in notches plus inflation. Remember the ratepayer toils hard for their money and expect reasonable or no increases at all. I hope the municipalities consider the plight of its ratepayers and heed their call. Mr PH Maharaj

“Sir, you are the weakest link” If a picture paints a thousand words, then we are in serious trouble. That a group of Protection Service officers together with SAPS on an operation makes the news is that either a). you have no stories to write about, or b). when these officers do any meaningful tasks it is something to crow about. To say that I was shocked or surprised to see this picture with very little results to chirp about is expected. They say the strength of a chain is judged

Press by its weakest link perhaps sums up the sorry state of affairs of our town. Perhaps I should not be too critical of these officers actually doing work but rather focus on those who are not and allow this picture to inspire them into getting their pictures into the local, or perhaps national newspapers, for actually doing something. I mean, how did the Shoprite Checkers parking area get so many containers for businesses placed without any control? How did the “tin CBD” alongside the railway fencing adjacent to the taxi rank mushroom without being noticed? How do businesses operate in the arcade leading from King Shaka Street into Hullett Street without any visits from authorities? How do buildings occupied by mostly foreigners exist in such pig sty conditions? I understand that the current Mayor's term of office is up for grabs soon, however, as the first citizen of this town, Sir, you are the weakest link hence the situation we find ourselves in. In fact, even the rot that has set in is beginning to decay. Was this a strategy of your ilk to purposely allow this town to get to this stage so that a mall would be seen as the solution to this mess? Makes me wonder and this fear is supported by the picture in question. Simply put, if everyone did their fair share on a daily basis, this town would have been a candidate for your pipedream “city status.” Most concerned

For almost a week, residents in Stanger Manor and surrounding areas had to endure with inconsistent water supply for multiple of reasons, repairs to pump, low levels of water at Umvoti and the list continues. Request for water tankers during this period was met with no success citing lack of funds. However Ilembe have to step up with political leadership at provincial and national level if they are to get any funding, like yesterday, to deal with the current situation. The Tugela Bulk Water Scheme should have been connected to the system by now but for some reason it is delayed, which leaves residents in limbo. Ilembe at least should have installed boreholes in wards at strategic points taking a lesson from the last water crisis. All attempts to get water tankers failed citing lack of funds. All this points to one thing - we have to equip ourselves with tanks, containers with at least several weeks of stored water. The reality is the problem is unlikely to disappear. I have taken up this issue with Ilembe without grant funding the situation is going to get worse. Those that can afford installing boreholes go for it as you could also be a helping hand in the community in time of crisis. Be pro-active, I understand the frustration and it affects the quality of life. Take heed of my repeated advise over the years to equip yourself in times of crisis. Of course people have rights to protest to highlight issues directed to councillors and council. The ruling party on council, the ANC should take notice of the g r o w i n g unhappiness of communities. Cllr Madhun Sobram Sing Ward 17

KZN Leader visits Mandeni As part of the DA's Leadership Tour to unpack our manifesto across the province, I

visited the area of Mandeni on Friday where I saw for myself the plight of the elderly living in this community. One family, consisting of three elderly women, live alone in a deserted, deteriorating house with no proper sanitation and no water infrastructure. These women, who have lived under these circumstances for decades, have been overlooked for years in the housing projects. The ANC led government has broken all moral codes when it comes to allocation of houses. The most vulnerable of our society is suffering and have been forgotten by the government the government they helped put in power. Youth unemployment rate is at its highest. During a separate house visit, we were greeted by a family of a disabled woman who does not receive a disability grant. The sight of poverty, hopelessness was not easy to ignore. Where the DA governs, the most vulnerable are prioritized on housing allocation we ensure that their welfare is secured. A vote for the DA will bring change that will move Mandeni and South Africa forward again. People of Mandeni need to vote for change that will stop corruption, create jobs and deliver better services for all. The Councillors, aspirant candidates and activists joined DA councillor Kathleen Naidoo in the leadership tour of Mandeni and would like to sincerely thank the Leader Zwakele Mncwango, MPL Hlanganeni Gumbi, DA staff and all councillors for participating in this eventful day. Cllr Kathleen Naidoo Mandeni

Client: Dr Daudie can you briefly discuss to us how your magic ring works? Daudie: First and foremost, the magic ring was discovered in Egypt around 400 - 800BC by the Pharaoh. When you put the ring on the finger, it produces a fluid which circulates in the blood stream, it recharges the whole system with its powers and diseases are destroyed. Not only that but also it will affect your stay and change your lifestyle. It gives you success in love, boost business, make you attractive i.e. Attractive to the opposite sex for love and protect you in your journey. Furthermore, it will prevent you from being fooled by people and you will be capable of performing miracles. More still, it will protect you from evil powers & witchcraft i.e. Nothing can destroy your life any how and it can make lover faith i.e. Make him/ her love you alone. Gambling, like lotto, casino and machine play, 100% is guaranteed when the magic ring is used properly. Last but not the least, it will give you promotion in any field you want and it can be used to win court cases that is if you have a case to answer. That also apply's to student in an examination, there will be no difficult questions. Briefly that's how a magic ring works. Contact: DR DAUDIE

United to defend Warriors Sport T20 crown United Cricket Club are looking to defend their Warriors Sport T20 crown (under the iLembe District Cricket Union) when they secured a berth in the final that will be played at the Country Club Grounds. The final between United and Morningside is predicted to be a humdinger with both teams raring to go and with good weather predicted. In the first semi-final match played on Sunday, Manor A took on defending champions United. Manor A won the toss and elected to bat first. Saeshan Loganathan (23), Steven Jacobs (14) and Aaron Pillay (12) were the only batsmen with double digits in a lack-lustre performance from Manor. Manor ended their innings on 105/7. Mohamed Desai was the destroyer in chief claiming 3/27. United easily made the target in the 16th over.

Grove End Volleyball Club remain unbeaten in the EZE's Electrical Premier league (hosted by KwaDukuza Volleyball Association) after defeating arch rivals Randsons in a round two league match played at the association courts last Thursday. Grove End have remained unbeaten in the league since last year winning all competitions except the 2016 Xpress Times Easter tournament losing to the same opponents. The game however was a humdinger with Randsons out to extract revenge for their first round loss. However, Grove End

Saeed Ali top scored with 35 that included 2 sixes. S Desai 30, Z. Ali 14 (including a six) and Umar Hoosen 10 were the other batsmen to

contribute. United are now eagerly awaiting to face Morningside A in the finals scheduled for 29 May at the Country Club grounds. Saeed Ali

won the FNB Man of the match award presented by Rishen Mathapershad of Warriors Sport. In the other semi-final,

Grove End remain unbeaten

maintained their stranglehold over Randsons in the league beating them 25-21, 25-22. Meanwhile, KSST woes continued when Warriors Sports gained sweet revenge for their first round loss. KSST drew first blood winning the first set 25-17. The writing was on the wall for Warriors but some harsh words from team manager at the break saw Warriors come out with vengeance.
