Where does the buck stop? Police investigating a case of robbery on Youth Day were rewarded with a bonus for their efforts. Following up on information provided to them they visited the “house of sin” in Balcomb Street. As police approached they spotted one of the henchmen behaving suspiciously. Their attention diverted from the robbers to the henchman and on searching him, found 41 pieces of cocaine and 6 mandrax tablets as well as a substantial sum of cash. Vusimuzi Mghobozi (42) was granted bail and is due back in court on 18 September. Same company When taxi driver Thulani Gumede returned home he was shocked to find his house broken into and his set of AMC pots and a radiator for his mini-bus missing. He made enquiries and found out who the culprit was. He then reported the matter to police and a month later, police together with Gumede, arrested one culprit and found the set of pots as well as the radiator. A message was left for his accomplice to call in at the police station and the accomplice handed himself over. Sandile Gumede (25), a taxi conductor, and Nhlanhla Myeza (21),

unemployed, have been remanded in custody and will seek bail at their next appearance this week.

buyer, a vendor, explained that she had purchased the clothing from a person known to her. Gedebo's patience paid dividends when the seller was spotted. He arrested Minesh Pillay (25) of Sunny Park and took him to the station. Pillay is due back at court on 16 July. It appears that the Ethiopians do not only beat us in soccer but can outwit our criminals too.

Bread basket of Groutville A standing arrangement between Sasko and William Dladla had been under scrutiny by opportunistic entrepreneurs in the Groutville area. Dladla had arranged for his delivery to be made daily at his premises and had given a key to the driver of the delivery truck. However, during May he found no bread as arranged and reported to Sasko. The following day, one of his employees received information that two youths were selling bread in the area. Dladla lost 60 loaves to the entrepreneurs who had stolen his delivery. Last week police arrested the salesman, Lindokuhle Ndlanzi (21) and he pointed out his employer, Moses Ntuli (25). Both are due back at court on 18 September.

Exchange system A woman who tried to outfox staff at Edgars with an age old trick has fallen short in her effort. Security Officer Herbert Nkabinde alleges that he spotted the female take two pairs of jeans into the change rooms. An hour later she emerged from the change rooms and on investigating he found two pairs of old jeans on the floor. He managed to have her stopped and it was established that she had changed into a pair of ladies jeans and a pair of Levi's. Rose Ngema (22) pleaded guilty and was fined R2000 or 2 months imprisonment.

Ethiopia all the way An Ethiopian man has learnt about the South African crime trends very quickly. Habte Gedebo states that on Friday, his wife alerted him about missing clothes from their home. Knowing the taxi rank to be the hub of all activity, he went there and found his jacket and blouse belonging to his wife. The

Greed kills A cocky whoonga dealer, greedy on getting rich, threw caution to the wind when he sold whoonga to a police officer. The officer alleges that he received a tip off and went to the house of the dealer. The man handed him a straw of the drug after accepting R30 from the policeman. On searching

the house of the culprit, police found 123 straws of the drug as well as the policeman's money inside the bag. S i y a b o n g a Khumalo (25) was granted bail and is due back in court on 18 October. Police also pulled the same stunt on a 17-year-old student who sold them two straws. He had a stash of 64 straws

hidden under his mattress. The youth is due back at court on 28 August.

CUBED STEAK YOURS IN PEACE: The enlightened beings of the Brahma Kumaris together with Rhamba Hira and residents of KwaDukuza at Ayer Rock

By Xpress Reporter

The Bramha Kumaris from t h e Wo r l d S p i r i t u a l University based in Effingham, Durban held an introductory course to their revolutionary meditation technique and wellness program at Ayer Rock on Saturday, 22 June 2013 (the day of the supermoon or a full moon that is the closest and largest full moon of the year and start of the astrological influence of Cancer). With the energies aligned in

the heavens, residents of KwaDukuza and the Xpress Reporter learned about the nature of the soul and its inter-relationship between God, spirit and the material world. Speaking to Ms Usha Jevan, our reporter experienced a 'paradigm shift' in that they found that its not that I am a body and the soul belongs to a body, but the reality is that I am living being, I am the soul and the body belongs to me. Jevan spoke about the Raja Yoga meditation technique

that is proving revolutionary in relieving stress, depression, anxiety and reviving 'latent spirituality' that brings inner calm. The team of 20, including males and females, visited KwaDukuza to whet the appetite for the FREE of charge comprehensive workshop that will take place at Ayer Rock on Saturday, 6 July 2013 from 9:30 to 4pm. RSVP: Rhamba Hira on 032 552 7864 / 032 551 4666 / 083 2426 142 and Kamla on 032 941 6031 / 083 2294 581

The KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) ward 19 Councillor Sandeep Oudhram with the help of well wishers and his ward committee members have drawn the line against youth and substance abuse. Councillor Oudhram procured a sponsorship of R2000 towards the Rocky Park Football Club (RPFC) from K9 Security Services as part of a drive to

RA Moodley Homes to discuss other codes of sport on any Tuesday at 5:30pm. In an effort to raise funds in promoting sport among the ward 19 youth, a Dinner and Dance will be held at the KwaDukuza Town Hall on Thursday, 27 July 2013 with tickets at R60 per person. Contact the coordinators: Alex September on 083 6345 207 and / or Randolf Swaartbooi on 072 678 1475.

He makes a plea to youth from ward 19 ((CBD, Erasmus Dam, Larkfield, Newtown, Rocky Park, Townview, Gledhow Farm, Thornhill and the RA Moodley Homes) to meet with him at the

AIM Well known for its wide range of school wear, AIM Fashions, now known as AIM was established by Mr Ismail Hafejee in 1984. “Originally I ran a shop in Thringspost from 1972 to 1982. Then in 1984, I opened up AIM,” said Mr Hafejee. The name AIM is an acronym that stands for the Hafejee family: Amina, Ismail and Mariam. When AIM began 29 years ago, they carried a wide range of clothing and as the years passed, the store became a household name, specializing in school clothing. “Five years ago, my son took over. Although we are now a DIY store, we still specialize in school clothing,” said Mr Ismail Hafejee.

KDM Culture of NonPayment Challenge?

different from rural living and one must change. You expect services you never had before and once we have solved the “culture of non-payment” services will improve and communities can unite for the betterment of all. Don`t look for what you can take. Look for what you can give. Frank du Toit - NCKDRPA

KDM produced an Employment Equity Plan for 2011-2016 to comply with the law. The broad objective is to have an equity representation of the designated groups in all occupation categories and levels of staff in the KDM. However, I would like to focus on the payment of Municipal services ie. rates, electricity, water, sewerage etc in the same manner as with labour above, once we have the percentages in the categories: African, Coloured, Indian and White, we should be able to plan a more equitable payment for Municipal services. At present, the payment of Municipal services is dividing us on racial grounds. The payment of Municipal services by so few for so many is not sustainable. The culture of non-payment has to be addressed. Labour is demanding a “decent” wage and therefore must take over their responsibilities as owners of land and pay their way. Where does the money come from for the government and municipality? It doesn`t grow on trees but comes from the people you and me! If you don`t pay for the services they render, that means you expect somebody else to pay for you. The million dollar question “Will you pay for somebody else?” If one collects a little from everybody, you end up with plenty of money, like SARS does, to be used for the benefit of the people. To quote the SABC: “do the right thing and pay your TV license.” Living in a Municipality is

Unite to build a better life for all I truly believe that there are two majority political parties for many years.ie. the ANC ruling party and the DA opposition party. Following South African politics, I see there are more new political parties formed to fight the ANC. To my knowledge, there were many parties who took part in our elections since we got our democracy but it's sad to see that some parties are no more in politics and some have little support. Working together, politicians across the political spectrum developed a constitution that has been lauded the world. Nearly 20 years into our democracy, the graciousness and magnanimity that characterized our political firmament have to great extent been surrendered at the altar of power and wealth. We read compelling stories of corruption and misspending in our newspapers every day, not that we can ever be sure they are true because nobody ever seems to appear in court. We fought for the right to protest, but we abuse the right by damaging property, looting and terrorizing others. We laid the foundation upon which to restore the dignity of our poorest and most marginalized people but

we are “struggling to build the house”. For all these reasons, I believe all small and new political parties who think that they can change the existing political landscape come the 2014 National Elections, should join coalition with the DA. Togetherness and unity, is the fact that there is no doubt that a strong constitutional democracy is strengthened by all the presence of vibrant and credible opposition. If we indeed become a nation that fears the consequences of not knowing what's happening in government then we have clearly taken a wrong turn somewhere. As a Community Activist, I am saying we should never have to fear constructively criticizing and engaging that which is wrong. (and equally praising that which is right). We have earned the right to be critics. We have earned the right to hold our leaders to account, to hold them to the highest standards. Is that not what a constitutional democracy such as ours is all about? Our country has immense potential and talented politicians who have many years of experience and who are faithful people's servants who are just side-lined or just used for bringing votes and then thrown into the dustbin. Is that fair? I believe a faithful people's servant has the guts to lead Africa and the world in showing the way to a modern, participatory democracy in which the voices of citizens are supreme and many of these people servants are not seen by political parties. I pray unity prevails in the 2014 National Elections so we can build a better life for all. I wish all political parties all the best of luck for the 2014 elections. God bless South Africa. It is disappointing that both Municipalities did not support this event in any way,” said Khan. Shain Manjoo, PRO of the SMA thanked all sponsors, donors, healthcare practitioners and their assistants, well wishers and SMA officials and volunteers for their unwavering commitment and dedication towards the free medical event.

“I congratulate the SMA on a successfully hosted health and wellness day. To see the medical fraternity out in full force offering their assistance at every turn was heartwarming. The professional advice offered, friendly disposition, well stocked pharmacy and the canteen were definitely worth the wait. Winter Fair 2013 set to dazzle KwaDukuza By Xpress Reporter

Residents of KwaDukuza can expect an exciting line up of fun and entertainment at the much anticipated Winter Fair 2013 which takes place from Thursday, 27 June to Sunday, 30 June. With top quality entertainment, informative stalls, good food and a spectacular fireworks display, this year's Fair promises to enthrall people of all ages over the four day period. The Miss Winter Fair pageant takes place on Friday night as a curtain raiser to DJ Oskido. Nando's introduces a Burger eating competition on Saturday and most of KwaDukuza's Eastern Dance schools / academies will entertain fairgoers on Thursday and Saturday. Thufaylali Quawalli, billed as South Africa's youngest Sufi artist, is set to mesmerize audiences on Sunday evening. The kids can look forward to Barney, Ben 10, Winnie the Pooh, clowns, a magic show with cool illusions and much more. According to the President of Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza, Praveen Sham, the Winter Fair Committee has been hard at work for many months to bring to the public an exciting and entertaining Fair. “Without the Winter Fair, Child Welfare SA: KwaDukuza will cease to exist. The income from the fair is essential for the Society to maintain its services to the community. The residents of KwaDukuza can look forward to four days of fantastic entertainment whilst, at the same time, ensuring that Child Welfare is able to continue serving the community,” said Sham. Locals have the opportunity to showcase their talent as the Winter Fair presents the “KwaDukuza Got Talent” show. Ed's note: We at Xpress Time wish the organizers well in their annual venture, which is held for the sole purpose of raising much- needed funds for the indigent people of our country. Invariably a few gremlins and glitches may emerge in the programme, but we should gloss over all that and focus on the REAL objective of raising funds. Have a fabulous time! Ismail Asmal

MANOR

President of Child Welfare: KwaDukuza, Mr Praveen Sham

Child Welfare SAKwaDukuza has been in existence for the past 74 years, which is a milestone for the organisation. However, one cannt forget the hardships faced by those who initiated the society. Their ambitions to ensure the society serves the needs of the underprvilidged must be greatly admired. AP Naidoo was the first president. He served for more than 8 years. Over the years, the society grew to be the largest welfare organisations in the Lower Tugela District.

Today, the society has several dedicated social and community workers providing a wide range of services with a large number of foster care and statutory services. they also offer counselling services, as well as several projects to empower the underprivileged and disadvantaged children and residents in the community. The community developments projects extend over a wide area and have brought relief to more than 7 000 beneficiaries thus far. I would like to pay tribute to all those who have served the society during its seven glorious decades. Many have put in hundreds if hours of work to make Winter fair 2013 an even better one than last year. Funds raised will be used by the society for various projects they have embarked on to assist the community.

Fair Director of Child Welfare: KwaDukuza, Mr. Dave Frank The year 2013 h a s b e e n punctured by a severe decline in the economy of our country. The services the Child Welfare SAKwaDukuza renders to the less fortunate are r e a c h i n g astronomical proportions. As a matter of fact the provincial welfare department has increased our social task tea. We have also established more than 60 garden and poultry projects and women's groups to help the underprivileged to help themselves. The society also provides a wide range of services with a large number of foster care and statutory services as well as counselling. In order for us to be financially sustainable to meet these challenges, the Winter fair is the biggest fundraising project on the society's calendar. Over the years the business, professional and corporate sector have formed a partnership with Child Welfare SA-KwaDukuza and their generous donations spells out the genuine concern for the plight of the disadvantaged. It is all systems go for Winter fair 2013.

He Showed Me My Enemies

A few days back, Naicker testified about the wonderful Maama Salmah not to just sit but also tell the whole world about her. I was referred to her by a friend called Andria who booked an appointment. He charged me R100 to read my fortune. He told me my names and showed me almost everything going on in my life LIVE IN THE MIRROR. I was showed that my business had fallen and my wife had left for another man in German for 12 years. Maama Salmah cast a spell for me & later made arrangements & she came back. We are so happy together now and my business grew after I was helped by Maama Salmah. She is accurate, down to earth & a honest person to deal with. I had tried many but none could help and I must say Maama Salmah the grace of God. Maama Salmah who assisted my husband after 18 years, whose penis wasn’t working with a small size, poor erection, one minute ejaculations and not strong. She discovered a lot of witchcraft and cleansed him in 30 minutes and with in 2 hours the penis was perfectly enlarged and up to now there is no change it is permanent. I Sandile from Matatiele now based in phoenix recommended Maama Salmah as nice, safe and saves money with time. “ I still believe Maama Salmah is the only one who assisted my wife Lorah to decrease her breasts and increase her hips and bums in the last 4 years ” Kingsley S. From Musgrave

Nelson Mandela in critical condition Al Jazeera - South African President Jacob Zuma has said that the health of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela “remains in a critical condition.” Speaking to journalists in Johannesburg on Monday, Zuma said that doctors were “doing everything possible” to ensure the 94-year-old's well-being and comfort on his 17th day in a hospital in capital Pretoria. A statement by the presidency following the hospital visit said: “President Jacob Zuma, accompanied by ANC Deputy President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, visited the former President this evening, 23 June in hospital. They were briefed by the medical team who informed them that the former President's condition had become critical over the past 24 hours.”

India floods: Rescuers race to save survivors BBC News - Rescuers in northern India are making a concerted push to reach 7,000 people still stranded in the mountains after flash floods and landslides. Air force officials say they need to get to the affected areas urgently as time is running out for survivors. In Uttarakhand state, where the death toll is expected to pass 1,000, there was more rain on Monday with further downpours predicted. More than 600 people are confirmed dead while 80,000 have been rescued. Snowden, U.S. engaged in intercontinental game of cat-and-mouse CNN - The United States is caught up in an intercontinental game of cat-and-mouse with Edward Snowden, the computer contractor who exposed details of secret US surveillance programs. As Snowden tries to hop from country to country, with help from the anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks, the United States has resorted to issuing stern words calling for his return. Hong Kong, where Snowden had been holed up for weeks, allowed him to leave for Moscow on Sunday, despite a US extradition request. Arming rebels is dangerous decision Associated Press (AP) - The decision by the United States and its allies to arm rebel groups in Syria is “very dangerous” and will prolong the violence and killing on the ground, Syria's foreign minister said Monday. Walid al-Moallem said sending more weapons to the opposition will also hinder efforts to bring both sides to the table in a planned peace conference in Geneva. He said his country remains ready and willing to take part but added President Bashar Assad will not step down. Al-Moallem's comments came two days after an 11-nation group that includes the U.S. met in the Qatari capital of Doha and agreed to step up military and other assistance to the Syrian rebels. He said all those who met in Doha “have Syrian blood on their hands.” Campaign Replaces Black Immigrants with White Actors Huffington Post - A new video produced by Amnesty International sparked a fierce debate on immigration and race after pointedly reversing traditional racial roles. The clip envisions a hypothetical scenario in which white European immigrants are harassed after seeking asylum in a generically African nation. The “immigrants” are fleeing conflict in their home of London, according to the video, which Amnesty notes portrays a fictional refugee situation. “It was bad at home; we had to leave,” a young refugee says. “Dad couldn't come; I don't know where he is now.”

Neville's Auto snatch darts league undefeated After conceding the darts throne to Darnall Action Sporting in the Action Builders and Civils Darts league, Neville's Auto I seemed to regain their form that they displayed in the 2012 season when they clinched the Isithebe Paints and Signs league hosted by the Dolphin Coast Darts Union at the Action Sports Bar Darnall last Wednesday. Neville's Auto thrashed Gledhow United 24-12 to lift the crown undefeated. Sanjay Singh, Paddy Padayachee and Pragasen Naidoo were in prolific form for Neville's Auto as they won a phenomenal 5 out of 6 games to lead Neville's Auto to victory. They were well supported by Kuben Naidoo and Wenley Venketas who won 4 and 3 games respectively. The only resistance from Gledhow came in the form of Charlie and Yogan Pillay who won 3 games apiece. Gledhow stunned Neville's Auto in the first frame when they beat them 4-2 to take the lead. However, Neville's Auto regrouped and too the next three frames by the same margin for an overall lead of 14-10. All eyes will be on the finals of the Ralph Reuben Memorial KO Cup that will be hosted by the Stanger and District Volleyball Association at the association courts tonight (Wednesday) when the giants of volleyball in KwaDukuza, KSST and Randsons clash at 8:00pm to see who will be crowned the Ralph Reuben Memorial Knock Out Cup Champions. This is going to prove to be a titanic battle as KSST will be seeking to avenge their two league defeats to Randsons this year. The big question on everyone's lips will be: Can Randsons maintain their stranglehold over KSST in 2013 or do they have BMT (big match temperament) to overcome the youthful KSST squad? Both teams boast a wealth of talented

players. Randsons will be relying heavily on inform Sandhir 'Tin Boy' Jugmohan, Cassim Mohammed and the rejuvenated Vinod 'Dogg' Pillay and their inspirational skipper, Neren 'Bob' Reddy. Victory for KSST will certainly rest on the shoulders of big hitting Cameron Singh, centre attacker and blocker, Damien 'Shrek' Peters and playmaker, Sherwin Daniels. KSST came through the finals unscathered as they hardly worked up a sweat when they defeated social league outfit in straight sets (2-0) in the semi final. In the early quarter final matches, Randsons overcame a

rampant S&S 2-0 whilst Grove End accounted for Teachers Style by the same margin. In the 2nd semi final Randsons were in fiery mood as they stunned Grove End (the only team to have beaten them in the league) with a hard fought 2-0 victory to set up the mouth watering final against KSST. All roads will lead to the association courts tonight as a real explosive and humdinger of a match is expected. Please note that the finals will be played tonight (Wednesday) due to the Winter Fair starting on Thursday.

XPress The ASP Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito kicks off from July 1- 7, 2013 and South Africa's finest are looking forward to capitalising on the significant rankings points and prize-money on offer at this prestigious event. One of just eight Prime Events on the ASP World Tour, the event offers the most rankings points outside of a World Championship Tour (WCT) event and has seen all 12 out of its previous 13 event winners, go on to qualify for the elite WCT the following year. South Africa's highest seeded surfer in the event, current ASP World No. 3, Jordy Smith (Cape Town), is looking forward to performing in front of a home crowd. ”It's an awesome time of year to be in South Africa and the North Coast really delivers,” Smith said. “To be doing the contest at home for once is great and it gets me really excited.” Winning the Mr Price Pro in 2010, Smith went on to win the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay that same year, rocketing to World No. 2 on the ASP World Rankings. With extensive experience at both Prime and WCT level, Smith knows only too well how important a Prime event on home soil is for South Africa's WCT campaigners. “The South Africans are going to be the toughest competitors of the lot because they have experience at their home break. It's going to be interesting to see how they go and it's a great opportunity for them to be able to compete in this calibre of event, at a break they are familiar with and have had time to practice at.” The most local of the South Africans in this year's event is last year's wildcard, and this year's

South Africans Set to Take on World’s Best at Mr Price Pro Ballito highest seeded non-WCT surfer, Beyrick De Vries (Umhlanga), who has gone from strength to strength on the international stage thanks to his wildcard entry into last year's Mr Price Pro Ballito. “Without my wildcard into the Mr Price Pro last year I would not be in the Primes this year and would not have qualified for his year's event,” said De Vries. “This year my spot will be on merit and it will be because I got two results, which like I said, was thanks to my points earned at last year's Mr Price Pro.” Fresh off a runner-up finish at the 6 Star Los Cabos Pro in Mexico last week, De Vries has jumped to No. 41 on the ASP Men's World Rankings - qualifying for the Primes for the remainder of 2013 where he will be aiming to climb the rankings ladder. “I was fresh off injury coming into the Mexico event and was just hoping to make it to the midyear cut-off so I could be in the Primes for the second half of the year. I'm overwhelmed with my result and will try to carry my momentum into the Mr Price Pro Ballito.” Born and raised on the raw power and shark-infested waters of the Southern Cape, Shaun Joubert (Mossel Bay) is South Africa's second highest non-WCT seeded surfer in the event and is currently rated 99th on the World Rankings. With an equal 9th at the Mr Price Pro Ballito in 2011 - not to mention an affinity for powerful, hollow waves, such as Willard's Beach -

Joubert has long been touted as a local favourite at this event. “The Mr Price Pro Ballito is crucial for my campaign this year,” Joubert said. “It's one of the best waves on tour, and one of the events I enjoy most. I'm hoping that I can do well in front of my home crowd and get my foot in the door for the rest of the year.” Similarly well versed in larger surf, wildcard surfer Chad Du Toit (Durban) has an aerial game to boot. Living not 30-minutes South of Ballito, Du Toit's experience in the powerful North Coast surf could make him a dangerous competitor in next week's event. “Last year I got a wildcard and surfed good in my first heat and was really well prepared but the wheels fell off in my second heat and I was just not myself," Du Toit said. "This year I hope to get some solid points and cash to put myself back on tour for the European leg. So this event is huge for me.” Fellow wildcard surfer, Steven Sawyer (Jeffreys Bay), is similarly hoping for a fairytale finish. Completing his studies in 2012, Sawyer can now focus his attention on competitive surfing, and couldn't ask for a better launching pad than his wildcard entry into this year's Pro. “The Mr Price Pro is definitely a huge bonus to get into, being a 6 Star Prime means no heat will be easy,” Sawyer said. “I had some decent points after Jeffreys Bay last year but wasn't able to do the

European leg because I had my matric exams which was a major setback. My approach this season is to find my feet in some comps, gain a better rating and then do it full time next year. ” Eleven South African are confirmed into this year's event including ASP World No. 20 Travis Logie (Durban) and Dale Staples (Cape St Francis) as well as wildcard surfers David Van Zyl (Durban), Micheal February (CT), Matthew Bromley (CT) and Greg Emslie (EL). Two additional South African surfers will earn places into the event through the trials to be held prior to the event. The Mr Price Pro Ballito will include the ever-popular Beach Festival, which will boast an array of impressive entertainment. This entertainment will include the popular Free Music Concerts taking place at Salt Rock featuring twenty bands over three days from July 4- 6, 2013. With numerous beach sports, soccer leagues, fun days and extreme sports demonstrations including wake skate, breakdance, parkour and BMX all on offer, this year's festival offers something for the whole family.
