masks at all times when in public, keep our distance from others and always ensure that windows are open and that there is a flow of f r e s h a i r . “The overall decline in new infections means that it is possible to gradually ease some of the restrictions on gatherings, movement and the sale of alcohol. “Based on the recommendations of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Covid-19, and inputs from the President's Coordinating Council, Cabinet this afternoon decided that the country should be moved from Adjusted Alert Level 4 and be placed on Adjusted Alert Level 3,” Ramaphosa stated. The hours of the curfew now begin at 22:00 to 04:00. Interprovincial travel for leisure purposes is now permitted. The president added that non-essential establishments, which include restaurants, taverns and fitness centres, are now permitted to trade, but must close by 21:00 to enable their employees and patrons to get home before the start of the curfew. Ramaphosa also announced that gatherings were now permitted, with a maximum of 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. “Attendance at funerals and cremations may not exceed 50 people and all social distancing and health protocols must be observed. Night vigils and after-funeral gatherings are still not allowed. “The sale of alcohol from retail outlets for off-site consumption
will be permitted between 10am and 6pm from Monday to Thursday. Alcohol sales for on-site consumption will be permitted as per licence conditions up to 8pm,” Ramaphosa indicated.
Relief packages Of utmost importance, continued the president, was the reinstatement of the social relief of distress (SRD) grant of R350, which has now been extended to include caregivers who are receiving the child support grant. The SRD grant will be paid until the end of March 2022. “This will build on the strength of our existing social protection system, which is one of the greatest achievements of our democracy. In addition to the food relief being provided by the Department of Social Development, government is contributing R400 million to the Humanitarian Crisis Relief Fund established by the Solidarity Fund, to assist with the immediate needs of affected communities,” Ramaphosa said. Ramaphosa reminded South Africans of the importance of wearing a face mask at all times when they are in public. “The owners and managers of public buildings, centres, shops, restaurants, taxis and buses all have a responsibility to ensure that people on their premises or in their vehicles wear masks. They must also ensure that the appropriate social distancing measures are in place and are adhered to,” he cautioned.

According to Acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni the recovered goods would be destroyed as their resale value will have a negative impact on the economy, “Those goods if they circulate in the market, they will depreciate the value of other goods. We cannot afford to collapse the economy by allowing stolen goods to be circulated,” said Ntshavheni.

KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Ms Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu has re-iterated the need for communities to take full ownership of health facilities in their communities, adding that when such facilities get vandalized, it is ordinary people including the poor who suffer the most, and may end up losing their lives. Simelane-Zulu has meanwhile welcomed the return to operations of most of the province's health facilities, following the violent social unrests two weeks ago. A number of health facilities
were vandalized during the riots. “We'd like to emphasise that communities need to protect health facilities from acts of vandalism and protect them. They also need to protect our staff, and not block them from going to work, because lives get lost that way. “We are quite satisfied with the gradual return to normal working conditions at health facilities throughout the province. We are still calculating the real costs of the damage, but we are pleased that most staff have returned to
work. Yes, the queues are a bit longer than usual, but they will become shorter as more people get seen. “The supply of auxiliary services such as food, oxygen and fuel continues to run smoothly, and our Emergency Medical Services are up and running. So are our Forensic Pathology Services,” the MEC stated. The MEC added that the province's vaccination sites have also returned to service. Currently the province operates just over 190 Covid-19 vaccination sites.
South Africa's official Covid-19 death toll surpassed 70 000 on Monday, this was revealed by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD). The country has also recorded 243 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 70 018. According to the Department of Health as of Monday the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases identified in SA is 2 383 490 with 5 683 new cases reported. “Today 243 deaths have been reported bringing the total to 70 018 deaths. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 2 169 452 with a recovery rate of 91, 0%,”said the Department of Health in a statement. On 25 July 2021, KwaZulu-Natal Province recorded 1 330 new cases. The province continues to rank the second highest in terms of the number of laboratory- confirmed cases countrywide, Contributing 16% (n= 385 385) cases.

The staggering Vaccination for 18 to 34 age group cost of looting and wanton destruction By Xpress Reporter
It has cost the country's economy an estimated R50 b i l l i o n ! Ye s , t h i s t h e shocking estimate of the cost to the economy of last week's mayhem in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, the country's two of the three economic hubs. The South African Property Association (SAPOA), in its report released this week, estimates that the KZN's GDP alone has suffered a huge dent of an estimated R20 billion. SAPOA estimates that 150 000 jobs are on the line, as a direct result of widespread vandalism and destruction. In addition, 50 000 informal traders, and a further 40 000 formal businesses, have been adversely affected. SAPOA adds that 200 shopping centres have been affected, with the majority of
them looted and damaged. Approximately 3000 shops were looted. 1400 ATMs and 300 bank and post office outlets were vandalised. Economist Kenneth Creamer was quoted in media reports saying last week's crisis had a compound effect on the country's economy. Creamer said the advent of democracy in 1994 had seen some major strides being made, with the number of people living in abject poverty declining steadily, and employment levels rising. There was an accompanying economic growth and sustained investment, Creamer said. “Now layers of crisis are compounding the country's problems rising national debt, state incapacity, falling confidence, the Covid-19 pandemic and most recently looting and wanton destruction,” Creamer said.
MOMENTUM: President Cyril Ramaphosa says the country's vaccination programme is gaining momentum
By Xpress Reporter
Government is ready to extend vaccination programme to people aged 18 up to 34. This follows the opening of vaccine registration for the 35 to 49 age group, which is still ongoing, with actual vaccinations expected to commence on the 1st of August 2021.

Addressing the nation on Sunday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the country was now administering on average 240 000 a day. A month ago, this figure stood at 100 000. Ramaphosa said South Africa had so far vaccinated over 6 million people. “As we have always said, our most effective weapon in
the fight against Covid-19 is an effective and comprehensive vaccination programme. In the coming weeks, we will substantially increase the rate of vaccination. We are increasing the number of vaccination sites and improving the vaccination registration system. We will also increase our vaccination

capacity on weekends. We will now allow people between the ages of 18 and 34 to be vaccinated from the 1st of September 2021. This will be in addition to the age groups that are currently eligible, which is everyone over 35 years of age,” Ramaphosa stated. The president added that it was now possible for those who seek vaccination without first registering to visit their nearest vaccination site and be assisted. Furthermore, Ramaphosa expounded, the country was scheduled to receive more than 30 million vaccine doses from Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson before the end of the year. “While there is ample supply of vaccines for the short term, we must ensure that this supply is delivered on time and without disruption. It is also important to monitor the emergence of new variants and to secure access to future vaccines that are adapted to these variants. “I urge all South Africans to register for vaccination as soon as they are eligible, whether online, via WhatsApp or USSD, or by calling the toll-free number on 0800 029 999,” stated Ramaphosa.

Sabian Singh (drummer) and Christian Linderboom (vocalist) continue to flourish as two of the most talented musicians in South Africa. Out of all the musicians in the country,
only eight are selected for this festival. This essentially means that Sebian is rated as the best drummer in South Africa, with Christian being rated as the most talented vocalist.

These past few months - and particularly the last few weeks - have taken their toll on the wallets of ordinary South Africans. We've seen a third wave and a highly contagious new Covid-19 variant; the tightening of restrictions with the return to level 4 lockdown; and blazing riots rage across Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, which have threatened food security, slowed the vaccine roll-out, and crippled many small businesses. It has, as they say, been a lot. However, while it is understandable that when times are difficult, we might not prioritize saving, Abulela Gazi, Head of Client and Business Solutions at Metropolitan says that these are the times when it is actually most important. “Consistently putting aside a little every month - come rain or shine - gives your money a chance to work for you. It will not only mean that you have a little extra padding to protect you should an emergency arise, it will also give you a better chance of reaching your future financial goals, allowing you to build a legacy for your family.” Gazi shares why he believes it is so important to save for that RAIN-y day. R is for Recession It is a sad fact of life that those who have the least are always the hardest hit by a recession, says Gazi. This is for two reasons; firstly, low-income families have the tightest budgets, and secondly, they are more likely to lose their income during an economic crisis. “So while we might argue that we don't have the money available to save”, says
Gazi, “as we enter a recession in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic - and as the full impact of the recent riots start to become more visible - now is exactly when we need to start saving, if we haven't already.” A is for Access Having access to funds will not only give you a buffer in emergencies, it also means that you are better prepared for life's more favourable events, such as a wedding or a pregnancy, explains Gazi. “While the idea is to avoid dipping into your funds unless absolutely necessary, you also need a degree of flexibility that allows you to access your money when needed, without excessive penalty fees.” I is for Inflation - and Interest! “The real savings superhero”, says Gazi, “is compound interest - which is when the interest you earn on the original amount invested, earns interest.” To benefit from the effect of compound interest, he says, look for a savings plan that offers low fees and good potential for future growth, and leave your money alone for as long as possible, to give it the necessary runway to grow. N is for Nest egg We all want our children to have the best in life. To be able to give them this, we need to ensure that we have a nest egg for when the time comes for them to leave our homes. “Through putting a little away every month, from the time they are in nappies until the time that they finish Matric, we can help give them the best possible education, which will help set them up for a brighter future,” says Gazi. PARCELS: Mission KwaSizabantu delivering donations of maize meals and aQuelle in Groutville, KwaDukuza.
In an effort to help families that were affected by the recent civil unrests that occurred in the province of KwaZuluNatal two weeks ago, KwaSizabantu Mission has once again stepped up and donated much needed food parcels to the needy communities. Rev. Stegen of KwaSizabantu Mission said the escalating Covid-19 pandemic, the unrest and large-scale looting have compounded the suffering of people. “Our country is burning, and many have lost their livelihoods, businesses, and property. Emseni Saverite is open so that local communities can continue buying food supplies. In a co-operative effort with several farmers and donors, the Mission is distributing water and food to affected areas and will continue for as long as is necessary. Providing teaching, healing, assistance are fundamental principles of the work of the Mission. Emseni Farming and
aQuellé contribute to the community at large, with these and other projects ensuring an income that directly benefits our communities. These projects provide sustainability for the numerous outreach and upliftment programmes as well as the missionary work that is accomplished,” said Stegen. The leadership at KwaSizabantu further expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community for their continued support. “Thank you for the donations that have been received which have enabled the Mission to support the affected areas. Additional supplies have also been purchased to boost donations. KwaSizabantu is especially thankful to the Lord for His grace and protection during the recent unrest. Together, we can rebuild our country and we are committed to actively engaging in this effort,” said KwaSizabantu Mission in a statement.

RED LABEL THE SAME TRUSTED QUALITY TASTE EVERY TIME Just enjoy the difference Manchester United signed Jadon Sancho on a five-year deal
Manchester United have signed England winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, the Premier League club announced Friday. No fee for the five-year contract was disclosed but British media reports said Sancho had moved from Germany in a deal worth £73 million - which would make him the second-most expensive English player of all time behind new United team-mate Harry Maguire."I'll always be grateful to Dortmund for giving me the opportunity to play first team football, although I always knew that I would return to England one day," Sancho told manutd.com. "The chance to join Manchester United is a dream come true and I just cannot wait to perform in the Premier League," the 21-yearold added. "This is a young and exciting squad and I know, together, we can develop into something special to bring the success that the fans deserve." His move to Old Trafford follows a yearlong pursuit by United, who were reportedly put off at first by Dortmund's 100m valuation of Sancho, a former Manchester City youth team player. The deal was also announced just weeks after Sancho, together with new United team-mate Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka, received racist abuse following their
penalty shoot-out misses in England's Euro 2020 final defeat by Italy at Wembley. United finished second, 12 points behind local rivals Manchester City, in last season's Premier League but Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects his side to benefit from Sancho's "untapped" talent - even though the player scored 50 goals and recorded 57 assists in 137 appearances for Bundesliga club Dortmund. "Jadon epitomises the type of player I want to bring to the club, he is a forward player in the best traditions of Manchester United," said Solskjaer. "He will form an integral part of my squad for years to come and we look forward to seeing him blossom," the United manager added. "His goals and assists records speak for themselves and he will also bring tremendous pace, flair and creativity to the team. "Old Trafford will give him the platform he needs to release his untapped talent and perform at the highest level. "For a player of his age, Jadon has already achieved a great deal and showed the courage to go and prove himself abroad." Sancho is United's second pre-season signing after reserve goalkeeper Tom Heaton joined on a two-year contract earlier this month.

Naomi Osaka lights the Tokyo Olympics cauldron
Osaka lifted the torch to the gleaming cauldron, which had unfurled at the top of a ramp representing Mount Fuji, in the highlight of a ceremony that was stripped back over virus fears. Japan's Emperor Naruhito officially opened the Games in an eerily empty Olympic Stadium, after Covid-19 forced organisers to ban spectators at all but a handful of venues. "I declare open the Games of Tokyo," said the monarch, wearing a white surgical mask, in the 68,000-capacity stadium. Osaka, whose identity had been kept secret ahead of the ceremony, was handed the torch by a group of children from the region around Fukushima which was devastated by a tsunami and a nuclear disaster in 2011. She tweeted that lighting the cauldron was "undoubtedly the greatest athletic achievement and honour I will ever have in my life". The lighting of the futuristic cauldron was an uplifting moment in a low-key ceremony that unfolded in front of fewer than 1,000 VIPs and several thousand athletes. In another high point, nearly 2,000 synchronised drones formed a revolving globe over the stadium, to a
cover version of John Lennon's "Imagine". A reduced parade of about 5,700 athletes, far lower than the usual numbers, filled into the stadium, not all of them socially distanced but all wearing masks. International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach acknowledged the Games would be "very different from what all of us had imagined". But "today is a moment of hope", he said in an address. The 16-day event, with 339 gold medals across 33 sports, has a surreal air after the pandemic compelled organisers to make this the first Games with virtually no spectators. Athletes are tested daily but they are performing on the biggest stage knowing that a positive test could wreck their Olympic dreams. Fears that the global gathering of 11,000 athletes could become a superspreader event have made the Games deeply unpopular in Japan, where polls have shown opposition for months. But hundreds of people gathered outside the stadium cheered and applauded as the fireworks exploded overhead.
Tatjana Schoenmaker storms to silver Tatjana Schoenmaker claims South Africa's first medal
Star swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker claimed South Africa's first Olympic medal in Tokyo as she took silver in the women's 100m breaststroke final on Tuesday. Swimming in lane four, Schoenmaker got off to a hot start, as she was the first swimmer to turn at the half-way point. However, 17-year-old American Lydia Jacoby soared to take the gold in a time of 1:04.95. Schoenmaker touched the wall 0.27
seconds later as the South African clinched silver in 1:05.22. Favourite and world record holder Lily King rounded up the podium with a bronze medal (1:05.54). Schoenmaker made history on Tuesday by becoming the first South African female swimmer to win an Olympic medal since Penny Heyns' bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Earlier, Schoenmaker had set a new Olympic record.
