Joining the King to celebrate the life and legacy of the founder of the Great Zulu Nation was the Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, KwaZuluNatal Acting Premier Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, the Chairperson of the KZN House of Traditional Leaders Inkosi RS Shinga, MECs Sihle Zikalala and Amanda Bani, iLembe District Mayor Thobani Shandu, KwaDukuza Mayor Lindile Nhaca, Mandeni Mayor Thabani Mdlalose, Maphumulo Mayor Siboniso Nyatikazi and many other dignitaries.

nation continues to battle a variety of challenges.
King Misuzulu used the platform to pay great homage to his great grandfather, King Shaka KaSenzangakhona, for his role in the formation and moulding of the Zulu Nation into one of the greatest Kingdoms known to humankind.

KwaDukuza Municipality has officially opened a new Combo Court in Doringkop, Ward 01. The sports complex was opened at the weekend by the Chairperson of Municipal Services, Cllr Nkanyiso Mdletshe.
The refurbishment of the combo court in Ward 01 was estimated at approximately R900 000. This was not a new facility as the first
one was vandalised. Various speakers at the ceremony, which included the ward councillor, a ward committee member and the Sports Confederation Chairperson urged young people to safeguard this facility, as it is meant to help keep them away from the streets, thereby minimizing chances for them to engage in drug and substance abuse that lead to crime and
teenage pregnancy.
The opening also marked the start of the ward selection games, which will culminate in the 2022 SALGA Games.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lindile Nhaca presided over the handing over of another sporting facility in Ward 26, as part of the municipality's robust drive to get the youth involved in sport and other healthy activities.

On the 04th of August 2022, SAHPRA issued a media statement relating to the first fatal case of GBS following vaccination with COVID19 Vaccine Janssen. Recently, SAHPRA has reported a second fatal case of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) following vaccination with the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen.
Causality assessment of the reported case was conducted by the National Immunisation Safety Expert Committee (NISEC) using the World Health Organization's (WHO) methodology. The case was classified as a vaccine product-related event following investigations conducted and causality assessment. The events reported in the vaccine recipient were consistent with the case definition of GBS and no other likely cause of GBS was identified at the time of illness.
As previously communicated, GBS is a very rare but potentially severe neurological adverse event that is associated with the administration of various vaccines and other medicines and can also be triggered by some bacterial or viral infections, including SARS-CoV-2. Symptoms of GBS range from mild to severe, and may include muscle weakness, muscle pain, numbness, and tingling. In many cases, GBS resolves with no serious after-effects, but in some cases GBS can cause serious or life-threatening
problems.
Regulatory authorities have previously investigated reports of GBS associated with COVID-19 vaccines. They concluded that COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen may increase the risk of GBS. GBS is therefore listed as a rare adverse event in the professional information (PI) for COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen.
Investigations and causality assessment of all reported severe AEFI with the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen and other COVID-19 vaccines are ongoing. The outcomes of these investigations and causality assessments will be shared with the public as soon as they are completed.
Important points to note
• COVID-19 vaccines have consistently been shown to prevent severe forms of disease, hospitalisation and death. Based on the currently available evidence, SAHPRA has determined that the benefits of COVID- 19 vaccination far outweigh the very low risk of severe adverse events, including GBS. The public are strongly advised not to delay COVID-19 vaccination if eligible in terms of the national vaccination programme.
• SAHPRA urges the public to report any suspected adverse events following the use of all medicines and vaccines.

The small town of Maphumulo is on a growth trajectory, with new efforts being made to transform the areas' economic landscape.
Last week Maphumulo Mayor Siboniso Nyatikazi, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Sinenhlanhla Chili and Council Speaker Musawenkosi Ngidi, officiated over the opening of the first phase of the new Maphumulo Spar Shopping Complex.
The new shopping complex presents a great opportunity for sustainable livelihoods in the local community. It aims to make notable headway in addressing unemployment as well as respond to government's clarion call for businesses to spearhead rural economic strategies.
Mayor Nyatikazi extended words of appreciation to the Renckens Brothers Group for transforming rural communities over the years as well as for their entrepreneurial love of infrastructure investment and development.
Renckens Group spearheaded the building of the shopping complex that consist of various shops such as Spar, PEP Store and Ackermans, and is on track to thrive and ultimately deliver rural communities from the chains of poverty. Construction of the second phase of the complex is expected to start soon, and it is envisaged that this will attract more stores into the complex.
Mayor Nyatikazi urged the community to work together with government and complex management to take good care of the buildings.
“We need to protect and jealously safeguard this infrastructure for the benefit of everyone. This investment will surely stimulate and enhance employment and attract more investment in our municipality so that our people can now have something to put on the table and sustain their socio-economic status,” said Mayor Nyatikazi.
A 37-year-old man from Ndwedwe, Emona area, killed himself in front of his girlfriend on Tuesday last week.
Reports by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) suggest that the man arrived at his girlfriend's home in the morning, and pleaded with the woman to allow him inside. RUSA further states that when the man's efforts to be admitted proved futile, he allegedly
broke a window to gain entry, before he was confronted by his girlfriend in the living room. Reports further claim that was when the woman realised that the man was armed with a firearm.
The man allegedly shot himself in the head, and died instantly.
At the time of going to press, it was not clear why the man killed himself. An investigation is underway.

The African National Congress in the General Gizenga Mpanza Region recently embarked on a programme to meet and interact with different stakeholders. These engagements included the Troikas from the municipalities, which were designed as a platform to report on the progress that has been made thus far regarding assistance that has been made towards the residents that were affected by the devastating floods that took place earlier this year.
Another meeting was between the members of the Regional Working Committee and the religious sector. The religious sector was represented by its
Executive Committee from Ilembe District.
In his opening remarks, ANC Regional Treasurer Thulani Ntuli spoke about the ANC being a broad church, which provided the basis for the meeting with the various sectors. Ntuli indicated that the ruling party had already engaged with the business sector, while plans were afoot to meet with traditional leaders.
Amongst other issues that were raised by the religious bodies were that of being able to meet with the politicians deployed in governance e.g. troikas etc, a need to be consulted as a structure when it comes to protocol regarding the
deployment of religious leaders at various government programmes and events, to revive the programme of deploying a Chaplain in the district, as was done before. The religious leaders also sought clarity on the issue of a budge being allocated towards religious programmes in terms of the IDP.
The meeting was a tremendous success and both parties agreed on a need to work together as government continues with efforts to improve the lives the people.
The ANC has meanwhile made an undertaking to ensure the inclusion of the religious sector in its Regional Religious Subcommittee.
President Cyril Ramaphosa says there is no quick fix solution to the country's battle with loadshedding. The President was writing in his weekly newsletter to the nation.
Ramaphosa conceded that the widespread public anger over continuing, high stages blackouts was wholly “justifiable”. The country has been experiencing higher stages of loadshedding, viz 6, 5, 4 and 3.
Ramaphosa admits that businesses are losing m9ney because of loadshedding and the country's persistent energy crisis, while investment and economic recovery were threatened.
The President said the unfortunate reality of the whole situation was the fact that the country could no9t eliminate loadshedding in the short term.
“Given the unpredictable performance of Eskom's fleet of coalfired power stations, we will not be able to eliminate loadshedding in the short term. This is the unfortunate reality of our situation, which has had a long history.
breakdowns that plague Eskom and leads to the need to implement loadshedding.
“Government is giving close attention to the skills, experience and capabilities of the Eskom leadership to ensure that the company has the best people at all levels of the organisation. “These interventions will help to reduce the severity and frequency of load shedding as we are bringing new power onto the grid over the medium term to increase energy supply.
“Last week, government signed power purchase agreements for 420 MW with the first three preferred bidders under Bid Window 5 of the renewable energy programme. The three projects are expected to connect to the grid in October 2024, and preparations are underway to sign with the remaining 22 preferred bidders.
“The amount of generation capacity to be procured from Bid Window 6 will increase 2,600 MW to 4,200 MW.

“Our goal in the immediate term however is to reduce the frequency and severity of load shedding by addressing power station breakdowns.
“This is a significant challenge given the average age of power stations, and that in the past critical maintenance was not undertaken at the necessary intervals.
“Eskom is urgently implementing measures to improve plant performance, which is a priority until new generation power projects are brought online,” Ramaphosa said.
He added that Eskom was in the process of addressing the challenge of coal quality. The quality of the coal being supplied, Ramaphosa stated, was one of the main causes of plant
“The National Electricity Crisis Committee I appointed in July is attending to the legislative and policy reforms that will establish a more efficient, competitive electricity sector,” Ramaphosa said.
The President went on to urge South Africans to demonstrate resilience in the face of prolonged blackouts. South Africans, Ramaphosa added, could also play their role by reducing electricity demand especially during peak times.
“As we continue to experience load shedding, there is a great temptation to give up hope that we will ever solve this problem. As we work with greater urgency to fix the immediate problem of an unreliable power system, we are also busy laying the groundwork for a sustainable, lasting solution to the country's electricity woes,” the President stated.

After making a return to the Bafana squad for the first time in a year, Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane repaid the faith
goals.
"I'm feeling happy, we did well as a team and we done what we were supposed to do on the field," said Zwane. "It's been a long time since I scored goals for the national team and it makes me happy."
With Broos calling Zwane up to the national team for the first time under his tenure, it could have been seen as a gamble by Broos to throw him back in the starting line-up. However, Zwane produced an inspired performance and was described as the 'missing link' by his coach.
Playing with a point to prove or not, the 33-year-old's performance ensured that he reminded his coach of his abilities and that age is nothing but a number.
"Age is nothing but a number, it's all about how you carry yourself. I'm still going to push myself as long as my legs allow me to go on," concluded Zwane.
iLembe Cricket after mixed start to season
iLembe Cricket squad, plying their trade in the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Premier league got their T20 campaign underway recording a victory and loss in their opening double header played at the Kingsmead Oval this pasted weekend.
iLembe got off to a winning start when they played African Warriors in the First KZNCU Premier League T20.
iLembe won the toss and elected to bat first posting a formidable 136/10 after 19.5 overs. The best included top scoring A. Saeed (Bullet) 36, A. Nadasen 33 and S. Logenathan 26. The destroyer-in-chief for Warriors was M. Gcado who returned with figures of 5/27 in 3.5 Overs.
In reply, African Warriors failed to make the target and were 92 all out in 17.3 overs. The best bowler for iLembe on his debut was G. Bishop who claimed 5/15 in 3.3 overs.
iLembe got off to a winning start by 44 runs.
In the second T20 against KCCD iLembe's hope of a double victory was dented when they posted a moderate 112/8. Middle order batsmen S. Logenathan (39) and G. Bishop (35) put some respectability into the iLembe total.
The KCCD batsmen showed scant respect for the iLembe bowlers and raced to victory in 9 overs, winning by 8 wickets. N. Jordan hit a blistering 40 not out.
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi regretted how they didn't take the momentum from the first All Black win forward into the Rugby Championship. After beating the All Blacks in Mbombela on 6 August, the Springboks then proceeded to lose two matches on the bounce. Kolisi added that their last three wins have given them momentum for the end-of-year tour.
The Boks' inaccuracy post that 2610 win on 6 August came back to haunt them in the Rugby Championship as they were pipped to the post by the All Blacks at Ellis Park the following weekend and then the Wallabies in round three.
The Springboks may have won 38-
21 against the Pumas at Kings Park on Saturday, but they needed to win by 39 points to wrest the Championship from the All Blacks. That didn't happen as the Boks failed to convert their dominance into points.
Kolisi was happy, however, with the way the Boks played.
Kolisi admitted that their Rugby Championship campaign should have been better than what it turned out to be. A positive he took from the tournament was the fact they've made huge strides from a momentum perspective ahead of the end-of-year tour.
They'll be facing Ireland, England, Italy and France on four consecutive weekends, alongside SA A midweek games.
