MEC condemns taxi killings Continued from page 1
BRUTAL TRAGEDY: The bullet riddled vehicle, Sibusiso Sokhela (42) was travelling in. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics
is now being investigated by the Police Taxi Violence Task team. Commenting on the incident, MEC Mchunu, called for calm and restraint, saying police are working to find the perpetrators of this heinous deed. “We strongly condemn the murder of Mr. Sokhela and any other incidents of violence. At this state it is not clear whether this incident is linked to disputes in the taxi industry or it is an isolated incident of criminality. We appeal for calm and restraint as police are now investigating this murder case. We wish to send our deepest condolences to the Sokhela family and the entire taxi industry fraternity.” said Mchunu. He further urged members of the public who have the information to work with the police and appealed for those concerned to avoid speculating on the possible cause of the killing. Mchunu said it was disturbing that another member of the association was killed within a few months after the killing of KwaMaphumulo taxi association Chairperson, Chris Ngiba, who was ambushed last year at his home in Pinetown.

KDM “on top” of debtors list By Xpress Reporter
The KwaDukuza Municipality's initiative in bending over backwards in its Debtors Incentive Scheme whereby individuals, trusts, government departments and businesses owe in excess of R 1 000 000 in some cases, has raised the ire of the business sector. The Xpress Times were inundated with calls and emails when council released the updated list of “Top 1000 debtors.” The business sector feels that they are subsidising the accrued debt while the indigent and disenfranchised are always getting their electricity and water services
cut immediately. Is it fair when a person who is living from paycheck to paycheck or a senior citizen receiving grant gets cut off when they miss a single payment. KZN's top debtor, an individual, owes KDM in excess of R 5 million with four others trailing by amounts in excess of R 1 million and include a local government department among the top five. We asked the question: “The man on the street is being dealt with IMMEDIATELY for nonpayment as opposed to individuals and businesses owing KDM more than a
million rand. Please allay public fears that nepotism is not the case here…” “In respect of the debt collection procedures that are currently being undertaken, we practice fair treatment to all KwaDukuza customers or consumers at large. In support of this statement, debtors that have been mentioned to be owing the municipality substantial amounts have already been handed over to Council's panel of attorneys for collection,” said KDM Corporate Director of Communications Mr Sifiso Zulu. On whether ratepayers will foot the massive R 44 162 801.02 debt (in excess of R 44
million) Zulu said that the total outstanding debt of R44 162 801.02 being owed by the top 50 consumer debtors will be recovered through section 66 attachment of a debtors immovable property however, it shall be noted that the legal proceedings are very lengthy, therefore KwaDukuza rates payers who are not affected by this debt will not bear the burden of the debt. “Furthermore this will not be recovered from the increase in rates and services charges for the next financial year, 2016/2017. All legal cost incurred are recovered from the respective debtors
49 Mahatma Gandhi Str. Tel : (032) 551 1522
that are handed over for collection,” he said. “The majority of the top 50 consumer debtors are at the legal proceeding, however the legal stage per individual matter varies due to the fact that each matter has its own merits. With regards to Estate late matters, it shall be noted that Council is restricted from pursuing legal action if the executor of the estate has not been appointed, therefore in terms of Council Credit Control and debt collection policy, we currently enforce debt collection mechanisms through disconnection of electricity and blocking of prepaid electricity meter,” said Zulu.

At the outset, CEO of Edison Property Division, Pregan Naicker assured the people that “we are not building a casino.” The issue of the Mall and Civic centre (that the KwaDukuza Municipality) will move into has polarised the community down the middle.
All sorts of ethnic based discrimination has taken place with some attributing the delay of the Ratepayers organisation to the issue as well. The public got to see the development in detail via a projection presentation with commentary by Naicker. He spoke of retail giants, clothing stores, restaurants, a hospital and much more. The opportunity for questions were taken up by many people from the ruling party who asked questions that people only dare mention on social media. The ANC's Sanele Mthiyane had to remind Naicker to speak off the

decentralization of the sporting facilities. Mthiyane relayed the people's concerns about travel and the state of current facilities. Although some questions were not answered, Naicker did hold provide tangible arguments. The people were just happy to hear of the jobs that would be created in the building stages right up until the completion by way of cheering. The argument of bringing in more factories was made before Naicker to which he said that “we looked at this and saw a mixed use development as more feasible.”

Mandeni Mayor uplifts ward 6 residents BRINGING HOPE: Recipients of a blockmaking machine donated by Mandeni Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sphesihle Zulu
INSET: Mandeni Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sphesihle Zulu addressing residents
By Xpress Reporter
The Mandeni Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sphesihle Zulu delivered a message of hope to the community of ward 6 regarding service delivery. This comes after an IDP and 2016\17 Draft budget meeting that was held at Sheshi Sports field in Ndulinde on Wednesday, 20 April 2016. Zulu said that out of 1000 houses registered under the
iSikhonyane Housing Project, there were only 15 houses left to complete phase 1 and that the phase 2 housing profiling was about to begin. He further announced that the Community Works Programme, consisting of 28 workers in ward 6, will recruit another 32 workers. The Mayor also said that Vutha Sports field was being renovated and urged youth to participate in different sports activities.
“The Department of Transport is also striving to ensure that both the renovation of Vutha Bridge and the completion of road construction, which was launched by the Honourable Willies Mchunu (MEC for Transport and Community Safety), is being considered as the first priority.” Zulu also donated sewing machines and a block machine to SMMEs operating in ward 6.
Islam and racism Racism, hate speech and discrimination are the worst societal ills. While racism is condemned worldwide, its existence in South Africa is more appalling given our history of apartheid and our liberation there from. It is regrettable that we find basic humanity lacking in many humans and as a responsible society, we must use all means at our disposal to educate and reform such people. The problem of racism is not something new. It was widespread in the early days of Islam, some 14 centuries back. Islam addressed this problem by holding man to a higher standard, a Divine Standard. The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) in his sermon at the conquest of Makkah, stated, “O Mankind! Indeed God Almighty has done away with the haughtiness of the Days of Ignorance and its vain boasting of one's ancestry. Mankind is of two
types: The moral, upright one, honourable in the sight of God Almighty and the immoral, sinful one, worthless in the sight of God Almighty. All mankind are the children of Adam and God Almighty created Adam from sand. God, the Almighty, states, 'O Mankind! We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes so that you may come to know each other. The noblest among you in sight of God Almighty is the most righteous. God Almighty is AllKnowing, All-Aware.” (Tirmizi) The fight against racism begins with conquering the hatred and racism within ourselves. A better society is made when its people become better. Islam had produced the formula for combating racism 1400 years ago. It thus befits Muslims to be the leading example for the rest of the world.

Groutville poacher sentenced A Groutville man received a 12month sentence after he was found with 21 crayfish - 13 more than the legal limit. Mbongiseni Dube, 58, received the hefty sentence, or a R12 000 fine, at the KwaDukuza Magistrate's Court for contravening the Marine Living Resources Act. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife said
that in terms of the act, a permit was required when fishing for the crayfish. “There is a bag limit of eight per person per day, of which all of the animals in your possession must be of a minimum legal size limit of 65mm. No one may fish for east coast rock lobster during the closed season (November 1 to the last day in February).”
Ezemvelo found Dube in possession of 21 east coast rock lobster (crayfish) on the beach at Chaka's Rock on May 4 last year. He was arrested and charged by their officers for exceeding his daily bag limit of crayfish by 13 and also for possession of one undersized crayfish.

segregation and white minority rule and the establishment of a new democratic government and a new state subject to a new constitution. The elections were the first non-racial national elections where everyone of voting age of over 18 from any race
Freedom Day is observed on 27 April and is an annual celebration of South Africa's first non-racial democratic elections of 1994. It is significant because it marks the end of over three hundred years of colonialism,
group was allowed to vote. Previously, under the apartheid regime, nonwhites had only limited rights to vote. The ANC (African National Congress) was voted into power and Nelson Mandela was elected as the first democratic President of South Africa. On this day people pay tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives in pursuit of liberation for South Africa. Va r i o u s e v e n t s a n d celebrations take place across the country to mark this historic event. Freedom day highlights the struggles and obstacles that South Africans faced in their fight against inequality, and is a celebratory event for all South Africans as we now live in a democratic land. The holiday also pays homage to our unique and remarkably detailed and inclusive constitution including a Bill of Rights. The document is widely recognized and guarantees all those within South African borders the freedom from the oppression that ruled the past.
World Malaria Day observed By Xpress Reporter
ILLS AND ASTHMA: Zamani residents in Darnall have claimed that sewerage leaks are affecting a suburb where mostly senior citizens reside - is affecting their health. Community activist and aspirant candidate, Roy Naidoo said that he has been grappling with authorities for months explaining that mostly Asthma sufferers are feeling the affects
People across the globe took part in a wide range of activities to mark World Malaria Day on 25 April 2016. Malaria continues to claim the lives of millions of people, especially in the poorest parts of the world or third world countries. Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites. The parasites are spread to people through the bites of infected Anopheles mosquitoes, called "malaria vectors", which bite mainly between dusk and dawn. There are four parasite species that cause malaria in humans: Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium ovale. Millions of malaria cases and a vast number of deaths occur every year. World Malaria Day is a day for recognizing the global effort to provide effective control of malaria. It gives people the chance to promote and/or learn about the efforts made to prevent and reduce the disease around the world. This is a chance to highlight the advances that have already been made in malaria prevention and control, and to commit to continued investment and action to accelerate progress against this deadly disease. World Malaria Day was established and approved at the 60th World Health Assembly (WHA) in March 2007. The theme for 2016 is “End Malaria for Good.”

Seen in the dark Three armed robbers who held up a couple at 2am believed no-one would see them. Unfortunately for them they were spotted damaging the lighting of their victims' house by a troubled sleeper. Jeremiah Ndlovu alleges his door was kicked open and he and his wife were threatened with firearms in the dark. The culprits used their cellphone light to remove a cellphone and television set from their victims. With the help of the witness, Siyabonga Dlamini (25) and Bongani Mkhize (26) were arrested. Both will seek bail on 5 May as they have other cases against them.

Fuel Saving Tips
Every time you get behind the wheel, there's an opportunity to save. Improve the fuel economy of your car with these 11 tips. · Check Your Tyre Pressure: Underinflated tyres increase rolling resistance between your vehicle and the road. Inflated tyres decrease rolling resistance between your vehicle and the road. Correctly inflated tyres results increased mileage of approximately 3.3%. Under-inflated tyres are not only dangerous, they increase the rolling resistance between the vehicle's tyres and the road. To overcome the extra drag, the engine will have to work harder and therefore consume more fuel. · Service Your Car Regularly: A badly maintained vehicle is unlikely to perform at it is designed to. Problems such as partially blocked filters, poor oil performance and emissions control
systems defects may occur. These and other factors will prevent your engine from functioning as well the manufacturer intended it to, which can result in increased fuel consumption. · Reduce Your Drag: Any external fixings such as roof boxes, their rails and bike racks should be removed when not in use. They change airflow over the vehicle and increase the aerodynamic draft. Opening sunroofs and windows will also increase air drag over the car. This means a great force is needed to drive the vehicle through the air, requiring extra power from your engine, and increasing fuel consumption and emissions. · Use High Quality Fuels: Using high quality fuels, such as BP Ultimate, will allow the vehicle to run more efficiently, enabling improved combustion quality thus reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions. Independent tests that the fuel economy benefit of BP Ultimate Unleaded can be up to 25km more per tank and up to 36km extra when using BP Ultimate Diesel, compared to ordinary fuels. · Turn Off Your Air-con: The airconditioning unit contains a compressor pump driven by your

Tyres must always be in an overall good condition. It is not just the tread that must be in a good condition but the sidewalls as well. The correct tyre pressures are of the utmost importance to achieve optimum road holding and tyre life. Good tyre tread is important for best road grip in wet weather.

· Check and change the oil. No single step will help an engine last more than regular oil and filter changes will. Conversely, nothing will destroy an engine faster than neglecting oil-level checks or fresh-oil changes. ·Flush the cooling system and change coolant once a year. A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water will keep the cooling system in good shape and prevent corrosion and deposits from building up inside the cooling system. ·Change out transmission and differential oils. While not requiring frequent service, these fluids must be changed according to service intervals. Always use transmission fluid or gear oil of the recommended type and viscosity. · Keep it clean. While washing the outside of the vehicle is obvious, most everything the vehicle ran over can also get stuck to the underside. Hosing off winter salt and road grime is a good idea. · Everything with moving parts needs grease to survive. This ball joint went into early retirement due to poor lubrication. · Nothing keeps paint looking good and protected like a coat of quality wax. Apply wax at least every six months. · Driveline components such as u-joints also require regular lubrication. The driveline may have to be removed to access the zerk grease fitting. · Protect the interior plastic by parking the vehicle in the shade, using a window deflector screen, and applying a UV protectant to prevent the plastic and vinyl from drying out. · Inspect, clean, and repack wheel bearings with wheel bearing grease according to service intervals. Wheel bearings and grease are inexpensive compared to spindle and hub replacement, or liberated wheels rolling down the road ahead of you. · Brake fluid is hygroscopic. This means it is adept at attracting moisture. Moisture causes components to corrode and fail. Replace fluid and bleed system once a year. Brake fluid is cheap. Calipers, hoses, and sensors are expensive.

CAR SALES (PTY) LTD
Seen are some of the proud customers who took delivery of their vehicle from S3 Auto Car Sales
S3 Auto Car Sales is the brainchild of Shrivar Ramayerser, who has 6 years of experience in the motor industry, having worked at many mega franchise dealers in Durban. After doing extensive research in the pre-owned market of motor vehicles, he has decided to venture on his own. At S3 Auto, customers can be sure to find vehicles that are not more than two years old, with low mileage and balance of manufacturer's warranty. Customers can have peace of mind as all vehicles go through a thorough 101 check with AA, and no accident vehicles are sold at S3 Auto. Shrivar would like to thank the following people for his achievement: Mr Farouk Asmal of Sucrose Nissan, who gave him the opportunity to enter the motor industry; Mr Salim Tootla, CEO of Whitehouse, for being his mentor; Mr Ahmed Desai of the Xpress Times for his assistance with advertising; and Mr Imtiaz Suleman of Stanger Car Plates for signage. Last but not least, he would like to thank the most important people in his life his customers. Many customers who are in the market for a vehicle do all their research online. Gone are the days of big, fancy showrooms. S3 Auto prides itself on offering quality service to customers. S3 Auto Car Sales is located at Whitehouse Centre Car Park area (Office G4 Whitehouse Centre, Stanger). Contact: 032 552 1951. Shrivar's 3 simple rules in life are: 1. If you do not go after what you want, you'll never have it. 2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be “no”. 3. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.

Say “NO” to racism (Award winning poem) 1994, The year that we achieved it all, an inspirational year, for ALL, both big and small. Since then a lot has changed. Apartheid fell and freedom reigned. But one destructive relic seems here to stay, It remains like a stubborn stain on a fabric, which won't fade away? Racism, the hateful practice when we judge people only by the colour of their skin, and it does not matter what lies within. Stereotypes and bias make this a despicable act. Some of the nasty words and acts that can't be taken back. It affects us all.Yes, it's true. It leaves us angry, sad and helpless. What do we do? Madiba believed that we are not born racist. We learn racist behaviour through our experiences. Therefore parents, let us be good role models and encourage racial tolerance and integration. These skills will build a better nation. Schools should be institutions that not only teach the three R's and facts from books,

After trying several healers with no success I tried Psychic Sarah as my last hope. I got her information on radio, newspapers about her powerful healing prayers and powers. I called her and booked an appointment with her but before I could tell her anything she checked in her holy pot of water. She showed me a photo of my husband kissing a woman I was so shocked she told me my husband is abusive of which its very true. Psychic Sarah cleansed and made a powerful prayer for. THINGS HAPPEN!! Client: Dr Daudie can you briefly discuss to us how your magic ring works? Daudie: First and foremost, the magic ring was discovered in Egypt around 400 - 800BC by the Pharaoh. When you put the ring on the finger, it produces a fluid which circulates in the blood stream, it recharges the whole system with its powers and diseases are destroyed. Not only that but also it will affect your stay and change your lifestyle. It gives you success in love, boost business, make you attractive i.e. Attractive to the opposite sex for love and protect you in your journey. Furthermore, it will prevent you from being fooled by people and you will be capable of performing miracles. More still, it will protect you from evil powers & witchcraft i.e. Nothing can destroy your life any how and it can make lover faith i.e. Make him/ her love you alone. Gambling, like lotto, casino and machine play, 100% is guaranteed when the magic ring is used properly. Last but not the least, it will give you promotion in any field you want and it can be used to win court cases that is if you have a case to answer. That also apply's to student in an examination, there will be no difficult questions. Briefly that's how a magic ring works. Contact: DR DAUDIE

iLembe hosts successful chess selection This past weekend saw 114 chess players battle it out at the ILembe Youth Trials held at Umhlali Preparatory School. Being selected as part of the team means an opportunity to play at the South African Junior Chess championship in December to be held in Gauteng. The newly elected committee decided to host trials early this year, so that quality coaching could begin to prepare players adequately to face the other eight provinces across the checked board. Included in the team are players who won gold at the Top Schools championships in 2012, 2014, and 2015. These players have brought honour to the iLembe district in the past and are
expected to do the same again this year without a doubt. Many of these players come from disadvantaged communities and funding is what stands between them and victory. The cost of coaching, transport, accommodation, meals, kit and registration are enormous and increasing each year. It is our earnest desire to take every chosen player to the National championships in December. We are appealing to all businesses and private individuals to make the dreams of these enthusiastic and committed chess players a reality. We look forward to a positive response from our community. The iLembe committee can be contacted via email ilembechess@gmail.com.

Team Olympic takes part in Tour Durban cycle race
Olympic car sales sponsors "Team Olympic" Shiraz Tayob, owner of Olympic Cars sponsors new cycle tops to Team Olympic. Olympic Cars will be the main sponsor for the club
KSST's woes continues KSST's woes at the start of the first round of the EZE's Electrical Premier League (played under the KwaDukuza Volleyball Association) continued last Thursday at the association courts when they went down in straight sets to Manor Volleyball Club. KSST, once a power house in volleyball in KwaDukuza and KwaZulu Natal seem to have lost their sting after losing key players. They went down 2-0 to Randsons a fortnight ago and this will be their second straight loss in as many weeks. Manor, also a powerhouse in yesterday years are quite the opposite and have regained their hunger and have and composure and have turned the league into a three way race between themselves, Randsons and 2015 champions, Grove End. There will be some interesting times ahead and enthusiasts are bracing their breath to see who will emerge at the top of the summit after round one. Manor recorded a fluent 25-20, 25-18 victory over the hapless KSST squad.
Grove End Meanwhile ensured they stay with the leading pack in order to defend their league title when they easily crushed Warrior Sports 25-16, 25-21. Darnall United stamped their authority in the Natdale Insulation Division I league with a straight set victory over Cool Leaders. After beating reigning champions Sunbrook a fortnight ago, they registered a hard fought 25-20, 25-21 win over a resilient and unpredictable Cool Leaders. Sunbrook bounced back from their defeat at the hands of Darnall with a hard fought victory over a resurgent Manor Old Boys to keep pace with early log leaders Darnall. Sunbrook easily won the first set 25-11. However, MOB shocked Sunbrook in the second set winning 25-18 to force the game into the third and decisive set. The third set was evenly poised bu Sunbrook kept their cool to win 1510.
