KwaDukuza during Saturday and Sunday (23rd and 24th July respectively), but Monday's melee scared many. The irony of some of the community not having water for almost two weeks and praying for the rains to fill up KwaDukuza's lifeblood in the Umvoti River saw the heavens open up and unleash the fury of mega rainfall. So much so that the Ilembe District Municipality, Councillor Welcome Mdabe visited the river on Monday. “Yesterday we were at 12 megalitres so it really is a slight improvement. If it continues like this and it rains for the whole week we are hopeful that the capacity will increase to at least 15 megalitres. At this point we are relying on rainfall only. We hope it will rain for at least the next four to five days,” said the Mayor. “We are not out of the woods just yet so we urge residents to continue to STANGER use water sparingly and to report leaks and burst pipes,” said His Worship. To report leaks and burst pipes or any water and sanitation related issues, please contact our 24hr call centre: 032-437 9379 and like the Wholesale Price DireCt to the Public 'Ilembe District Municipality' 30 Mahatma Gandhi Street (opp. Seraps) ( 032 551 1731 Facebook page for updates.

ADDRESS: From: (L-R): Municipal Speaker, Makhosazana Zungu; Ward 9 Cllr Wiseman Bhekisisa Ngiba; Municipal Manager, Lulamile Mapholoba; Mandeni Municipality Mayor, Cllr Sphesihle Zulu; Deputy Mayor, Cllr Phindile Marry Sishi; Cllr Melody Sherry Mdunge and Cllr Neelavathie Reddy
By Xpress Reporter
The Mandeni local Municipality Mayor, Councillor Sphesihle Zulu officially presented the state of the Municipality address, giving account to the citizens of Mandeni on progress made by the council at Ndondakusuka Sports field on Friday, 22 July 2016. Zulu expressed his gratitude to Council for the “manner in which it has committed itself in ensuring that indeed services are delivered to the people in redressing the challenges facing the community of Mandeni which are high level of unemployment especially amongst young people, high levels of poverty; service delivery backlogs and various social ills.” Speaking about the achievements made in changing the lives of people, Zulu mentioned that over 3 800 local people from both urban and rural areas are now living in decent houses delivered under the Human Settlements RDP Housing Programme. “We did not only provide our people with sustainable shelter but we further ensured their
security of tenure is enhanced where we registered their properties and produced over 550 Title Deeds for the beneficiaries of RDP Houses and further produced over 250 Title Deeds for people living in the R293 Township,” he said. He added that over 35km of internal roads in urban areas were upgraded or rehabilitated. The Mayor also said that the Municipality is continuously maintaining and upgrading over 500km of gravel roads within its jurisdiction. Zulu also addressed the issue of the drought in our region. “We cannot ignore the impact of the drought that has affected most parts of KZN Province and some other parts of the country and we appreciate the efforts by the District Municipality to improvise in ensuring the continued supply of water to our residents but we are aware of the challenges linked to the Interim water provision programme and it is our daily prayer that the drought comes to an end to allow for sustainable supply of water.” Zulu confirmed that over 700 households have been connected
with electricity and more households in areas of Macambini and Ndulinde are still to be connected through the INEP Programme. “The Municipality has further implemented the Electricity Smart Metering System within the Kwatas Area to minimize any electricity loss and for better management of electricity consumption by the households,” he said. According to the Mayor, the Municipality in partnership with the Provincial Department of Arts and Culture managed to establish a Library in Ndulinde. “The Municipality has further renovated the DLTS (Driver's License and Testing Services).” The Mayor said that the municipality has been issuing Bursary Schemes to local youth on an annual basis, and in the last 5 years has supported over 150 local youth. “The Municipality on annual basis has held work-shops and trainings for local young entrepreneurs, and has also started with a Youth Drivers License Programme targeting youth from all wards.”

Boston students embark on collection drive Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormal development or damage to the parts of the brain that control movement, balance, and posture. Often, symptoms include poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak muscles, and tremors. There may be problems with sensation, vision, hearing, swallowing and speaking. Often babies with cerebral palsy do not roll over, sit, crawl, or walk. The children at Inqolobane Home For Children are examples of what the condition is and what it does. The challenges they face every day is evident through their eyes. We at Boston Stanger would like to ask you and your organisation to assist in bringing forth a smile on these children's faces as we embark on a collection drive.
Those wishing to donate towards this worthy cause can do so by dropping off items at the following places: Boston Stanger (situated at Stanger Mall), S3 Auto at Whitehouse Centre or KZN Car Paint Specialists in Cato Street. Alternatively, you can contact 032 551 6374 to arrange for collection. All items must be dropped off by Saturday, 30 July 2016. Kindly join in us making a difference. We humbly appeal to you to help us make this event truly special for these unique children. Should you require any further information please contact Nirvana Naidoo or Prenesh Singh on 032 551 6374 or nirvana@boston.co.za / preneshs@boston.co.za.
We kindly request your sponsorship in making a contribution to the lives of 21 children aged between 2 and 19. Majority of the children have cerebral palsy whilst the others are physically challenged. Many of the youngsters are orphaned and some neglected by families. The children whom wear nappies also do not attend school. We humbly appeal for your kind sponsorship towards any contribution you wish to make towards uplifting the lives of the children. Boston Stanger staff and students will be collecting non-perishable items, utensils, single bed sheets, water proof single mattress, clothes, toys or any item that you wish to donate (except cash).

One person has died and another has been seriously injured in a collision on the N2 near Mvoti on Friday, 22 July 2016. According to Chris Botha of Netcare, reports from the scene indicate that a truck and a car collided. “Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the driver of a Uno had tragically died due to the
extensive injuries that he sustained. The driver of the truck was seriously injured,” said Botha. He added that after medics treated the man at the scene, they transported him to a nearby hospital for the care that he required. “Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events is still speculative and will form part of the South African Police investigation.”

The Sappi KwaDukuza Resource Centre has successfully implemented a tutorial programme in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Technology materials development for Grade 12 learners. This dynamic programme focused on learners from Qoqulwazi Secondary, Shakaskraal Secondary and
Nonhlevu Secondary School. The programme took place during the July vacation. The programme commenced on 4 July and a timetable was implemented covering classes for Maths, Science, Careers and basic computing. Due to the generosity of the programme sponsors, Avon Peaking Power Plant, learner's transport costs as well as
refreshments were taken care of. The education department representative, Mr T Woodraj visited the centre to address learners on the values of a good matric pass as well as sound benefits an excellent tertiary education would bring to their lives. Jabulile Mathlako, a representative of Avon Peaking

Dreaming A young man's dream of tucking into a hearty roast chicken was shattered. Bonginkosi Mbonambi of Nonoti alleges that he was alerted by his nephew that something was amiss in his chicken coop. On inspecting, he noticed a youngster fleeing with a chicken firmly in his grip. After a short chase he caught the culprit who had at this time cut off the head of the chicken. Khuleni Mghabi (24), who was given three warnings previously by Mbonambi for the same crime, was arrested and detained. He was remanded in custody pending a bail consideration and has nothing to cluck about for his behaviour.

Sphamandla Ncube alleges he met an old neighbour at a local tavern who requested R5. 00. After drawing R1000 from an ATM he returned to the tavern. However, the errant neighbour placed his hand into Ncube's trouser pocket, pulled out R5. 00 and noticed the money which fell. He assaulted Ncube and left with R800. Ncube returned to the ATM to draw a further R200 for transport for the week and boarded a taxi. Whilst inside the taxi he was approached by the neighbour who beckoned him outside the vehicle. As he believed he was going to receive his R800 he went out. The neighbour grabbed him and removed a further R180 from his pocket and began assaulting Ncube for a second time. He reported the incident to the police and accompanied them to the house of the culprit. Thembinkosi Sibiya (31) has been charged with two counts of robbery and assault. He will seek bail this week.

Job seekers dilemma A 40-year-old job seeker has leveled claims against a Windy Heights resident. The 5-month pregnant woman alleges that she
was looking for a temporary job last week. Whilst walking through Sunny Park she was approached by a local factory worker who offered her a job. However, once at his house she alleges he sexually violated her, gave her R60 and sent her away. Near the hospital she met a police patrol vehicle and reported the incident to them. Together with the victim they tracked the house and vehicle used to transport her to the house. The culprit was found sleeping and was arrested. He appeared in court on Tuesday and was released on bail. He is expected back at court on 19 August 2016.
Choices Gugu Nxumalo's desire to see her boyfriend at 2am ended in a nightmare. She alleges that she called at his house and received no response. Angered by his silence she threw a stone into the house and he politely asked her to leave as his ex was spending the night with him. He and his ex then followed her and attacked her by assaulting her and cutting her with a cane knife on her finger. Police managed to arrest the ex, Nosipho Bandana (32) who was remanded in custody pending a bail consideration. The man of the moment is still on the run.

Local Government Elections 2016
“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears” - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela
Local Government Elections (LGE) or Municipal elections take place every five years. A mixed or hybrid system, making use of both the ward system and the proportional representation (PR) system, is used for municipal elections. A week from now the citizens of KwaDukuza, who have registered to vote, will cast their ballot papers in their respective wards for their candidate of choice, the proportional representation and candidate of their choice to serve at an Ilembe District Municipality level. In all local municipalities there are 3 types of elections in each ward: Local council ward; Local council proportional representation and District council proportional representation.
Please make sure that you the voter are given THREE BALLOT PAPERS on Wednesday, 3 August 2016 and remember your voting station opens at 7am and closes at 7pm (12 hours). Ward Councillor Ballot paper: White T h e K w a D u k u z a
Nelson Mandela cast his ballot in South Africa's first all-race elections, in April 1994 at Ohlange High School near Durban, South Africa.
Municipality (KDM) now has 29 wards as compared to 2011 which saw 27 ward councillors. This ballot paper requires the voter to place their mark for who they choose. Candidates from many political parties will contest as well as independent councillors. Please note that the candidates surname comes first followed by their first name then middle name example… Obama Barack Hussein. You only place
one mark (a cross or a tick) per ballot paper. PR ballot paper Ballot paper: Yellow The PR allocation takes into account how many ward seats a party has already won to make sure that the final number of seats a party has does not exceed the percentage of the vote which they won. So for example if a party has won 50% of the wards
and 50% of the PR votes then that party will not receive any proportional seats. Look out for political party acronyms and the logo no faces will be present / or independent candidates present

Glenhills gets attention After a long wait by many residents, the potholes in Glenhills are finally being covered. According to DA Councillor Ajay Sahadew, “Roads are a major concern in the entire KwaDukuza area but at least a start has been made in Glenhills and some of the potholes are being covered, after forwarding the community complaints.” A START: Pictured is DA CLLR Ajay Sahadew standing on a huge pothole that has been repaired.

Glenhills pollution, an unsightly blemish “The conservation of our environment has been an issue that is greatly emphasized by the media as well as educational institutions. It is clearly evident that we need to take heed to the need of making conservation a necessity. In my frequent visits to the Glenhills area I have seen numerous instances of eyesore pollution. A popular illegal dumping site that requires attention is the area located alongside Galica Road, Glenhills. While driving pass this vicinity my sight was caught by the dump site which was a rising inferno. This was a foolish act as telephone lines are suspended directly over the illegal dumping site. It is said that little knowledge is dangerous, very true indeed as our environment is in danger because people don't know where to dispose their garbage. With that in mind, I plead and encourage the community to utilise the skip that is situated on the Glenhills grounds, adjacent to the Glenhills Resource Centre. Let us co-operate and together we can ensure a cleaner environment.” Pictured below is DA PR Councillor Ajay Sahadew at the scene of the fire. Also the skip provided for litter disposal.

History of the Mission School
Jonathan Jack (Former pupil of the school: 1951 to 1955)
In the late 1940s there were only two established primary schools in Stanger for Indian children. Stanger Indian High School had a primary section attached to it to cater for primary classes. These classes were held at the Sabha Hall. The other school was the Ashram State-aided Primary School. This school was built next to the temple by the Stanger Temple Society and the Hindu community. The school opened its doors to children of all faiths. The Grantee of the school for many years was Mr N.R. Padayachee who was
Staff of 1954
instrumental in establishing this school. He was a prominent local businessman, religious leader and philanthropist. Both the Sabha Hall and the Ashram School were soon to be over-subscribed and many children of school-going age were denied entry to school. There was a platoon session at the Ashram School in an attempt to solve the crisis. The government of the day did not have the will nor the inclination to provide for the educational needs of the Indian community. The fact that the Indian community built its own schools has been
well documented. In fact, education for the non-white citizens of South Africa was not a priority for successive governments since 1652 both Dutch and British. The Indian community of South Africa had always felt that liberation from the indentured labour system lay in education. That is why the Indian community built its own schools, which were termed 'aided' schools, to solve the school accommodation crisis. The plan to establish the school found favour amongst the community also. Local leaders lent their moral and
financial support. Chief among these were two local doctors, Dr. L.G. Christopher and Dr . Persad and a local businessman, Mr A.G. Bux. What was remarkable about the support of these benefactors was that they hailed from different religious backgrounds and had no qualms about supporting a Christian organisation to open a school for the benefit of the wider community. Although the school was to be housed in a church, it was to be opened to children of all religious persuasions and would have no exclusive Christian ethos. The Mission School opened its doors to its first intake of pupils in January 1949. It was a godsend to many families who had school-going children but could not find places at the two other local primary schools. A great number of the first intake of pupils hailed from Townview, Warrenton and Gledhow. (Unfortunately, the Gledhow Sugar Mill owners did not see it fit to establish a school for children of their employees!) The first principal of the s c h o o l w a s M r V. G. Augustine who lived on the premises of the old maternity clinic that was converted to
two dwellings behind the church. Pastor Manikkam also lived in one of the dwellings. He was the first grantee of the Mission StateAided Primary School. Other members of the first staff contingent were Miss C.V. Naidoo, Mr David Polayya and Mr G. Bissesur. Thereafter, Mr B. Kowlassur and Mr Harold Samuel joined the staff when Mr Polayya and Mr Bissesur were transferred to other schools. Miss Lily Naidoo also taught at the school for a short while before she emigrated to India. My sister, Betty, and I joined the school as pupils in October 1951, in classes i and ii respectively. We were transferred from Kearsney Primary School where we commenced our early schooling. There was a lovely family atmosphere at the Mission School. We had a very small sports field where we played football and the girls played netball and tenniquoit. We had an annual school sports with three houses: Christopher, Persad and Bux named in honour of the three benefactors of the school. The closure of the Mission School in February 1958 brought to an end an important chapter in the
development of education for the Indian community of Stanger. During its existence the school had served a very important educational purpose and its ex-students went on to become useful members of society and still play an important role in their respective careers. Thanks to the efforts and sacrifices of the pioneers and benefactors and the teachers, Mission School has booked its place in the annals of Indian history in South Africa. Written by Jonathan Jack (Former pupil of the school: 1951 to 1955). (Retired Principal and Superintendent of Education; presently an English Teaching Consultant in the UK) If you have further information about the school contact the writer on e-mail: jonathanjack@hotmail.co.u k P.S. Mission School Exstudents Reunion: October 2016. All former pupils who read this article are urged to send their contact details to Mr Jawahir Singh (former pupil) Phone: 032- 551 1318. Mr Singh will thereafter contact you with details about the reunion.

Exit the Guptas, enter the Sing/hs' Most of the political parties in KwaDukuza are duly represented by the Sing/hs' as candidates in the 2016 local government elections. Some are currently serving as councillors and others seem to be wanting to make desperate come backs. The big question is why? We will never know until they get elected! You the ratepayer need to exercise caution when casting your vote as some candidates have made millions out of KDM from grass cutting, printing, travel and leisure etc. Now it is Singh versus Singh (close families representing different political parties), is it for the money? If it has to be a Singh, then why not Baboo Singh, who has a proven track record and served us well for many a year. Who's

“Ilembe has not learnt its lesson” Over the past weeks we have suffered without water, without any warning from Ilembe nor any water tankers supplying us with water. We all understand that we are facing a serious drought but we would not be in such a situation had Ilembe put measures in place has advised by Amarasan Moodley to implement. Why is it that Siza water is not facing the same problem as Ballito residents have not had their water shut off? Ilembe has not learnt its lesson from the previous water shortage and did not heed technical advice. Their total disregard to sound advice has now created havoc on our water supply. In light of this serious situation, Ilembe should write off the outstanding debt for areas such as Glenhills, Happy Valley and Rocky Park . Selvan Naidoo

MY WIFE TOLD ME TO GO TO HELL WHEN I WAS POOR BUT SHE WANTS ME BACK BECAUSE IM RICH I am Cliff from Umhlanga. I came to know about Mama Alisha from Auntie Merina who lives in Stanger and had previously visited her with a financial problem and it had been fixed. I had lost all my money, cars, business some of which was left to me by my late parents. When things went real bad. My wife told me to go to hell and started having affairs looking out for rich men and when I confronted her about it she told me go to hell, left me alone and went. I suffered for almost 2 years but meeting Mama Alisha rose me up again. She gave me a magic wallet with which I could get money daily inside my house. I opened up a new business worth 2 million rands bought 2 new cars and when my wife heard that I am up again she wants me back, thinking of forgiving her but am not sure. Only that she is the mother of my 3 kids. I can forgive her for only that. If Alisha bought my life back to normal, I know she can help you too.

In loving Memory of the late
When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do, You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears, But be thankful we had so many good years. I gave you my love, and you can only guess How much you've given me in happiness. I thank you for the love that you have shown, But now it is time I traveled on alone. So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must Then let your grief be comforted by trust That it is only for a while that we must part, So treasure the memories within your heart. I won't be far away for life goes on. And if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear All my love around you soft and clear And then, when you come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home".
Sadly missed by your Grandchildren Reshmika, Sandhya, Ridhwan, Daksha, Faheem, Saudah, Yasteel, Aidan, Nadia & Raashmi as well as your great grandchildren Aryanna & Azaaria

KDM Chief Albert Luthuli Volleyball Tournament
KwaDukuza Municipality in conjunction with KwaDukuza Volleyball Association celebrated the life of local struggle icon, Inkosi Chief Albert Luthuli with a major volleyball tournament held last Saturday at the Association courts. The tournament catered for primary schools, secondary schools, ladies, KDDA
Division I and Premier League teams. The turnout was phenomenal and impressed the mayor Ricardo Mthembu and his large contingent of councillors and officials. The Mayor also honoured all long standing sports administrators in KwaDukuza. The following are the winners and runners up of the different categories:

Grove are the KDM Mayoral Cup winners
Grove End added yet another accolade to their long list when they defeated arch rivals Randsons in the KwaDukuza Sponsored Mayoral Volleyball Cup final hosted by KwaDukuza Volleyball Association at the Association courts last Thursday. It was really a one sided affair with Vinnie Singh and Niven Baldeo doing the damage up front. Singh used his superior height advantage to tower over the blockers and thunder the ball all over Randsons courts. Grove End raced to 25-18,
25-19 win to be crowned champs. Darnall United beat fellow Division I team Manor Old Boys to claim a podium finish. Darnall easily won the first set 25-19. However, MOB clawed their way back into the game, narrowly winning 25-23. However, Darnall set up the rhythm in the final set to hammer MOB 15-7 to claim third place. In the plate section KSST easily accounted for Cool Leaders 25-17, 25-21. KwaDukuza Volleyball Association Fixtures

Team members of Smurf Hiking Club recently returned from another highly successful adventure from the deep highlands 0f Lesotho. Having braved temperatures of -12 degrees and navigating through off road terrain of the formidable Sani Pass, these determined mountain enthusiasts were pushed to their personal limits. Stark blue sky, and the summit of 'Black Mountain' at an altitude of 3140 metres above sea level, the club's social cause tagged 'Charity in the Sky', the team distributed clothing and stationery to the needy children in remote parts of Lesotho. The club would like to sincerely thank all donors for their contributions. With adrenalin fuelled and hearts contend, this humble hiking

I saw a testimony of this black man called John. And thought he was just joking to people that DR KHALIM use the short boys to put a lot of money in the bank acceptant in 2 hours. But it was like a dream to me since I was just trying to get a help because I also lost a lot of money to many people then I just loose hope that magic can not happen in this world to me. I ask DR KHALIM to help to put money in my house because I don't have the bank account and we were all shocked in the morning with my wife to see R1,000,000 that I request was in my wardrobe, and I payed him 10% from same money into his account. My wife also decided to contact DR KHALIM for lucky numbers for power ball and we were very very happy on the Saturday to see all the 6 lucky numbers were out. We thank this white man for his testimony as well as DR KHALIM. Without you our life was in dark but know I can see some light and I can also see where I am going.
