The guest list was made up of educators, former educators, doctors, lawyers, business persons and law abiding citizens, entry to the event was strictly upon purchasing a ticket. According to reports making rounds in the media, the protestors were angered by the presence of former finance minister Pravin Gordhan at this event. The demonstrators held placards against Gordhan. Earlier in the day, two men had dumped two buckets of faeces at the entrance to the hall before Gordhan's arrival. The African National Congress Youth League under Greater KwaDukuza Region has since distanced itself from the incident with the Regional Secretary, Musa Zondi saying, “The ANCYL in the Greater KwaDukuza Region distance itself on what occurred at Siva Sungum Hall. ANCYL condemn that barbaric act with contempt it deserves. The Youth League has not been aware of such events. The fact that people were wearing ANCYL regalia does not qualify them to be members of the Youth League. We always ensuring that programs of the ANCYL in the region are known by its members and the

Mr Pravin Gordhan was invited in his personal capacity as a Guest Speaker. The so-called 'poo' was thrown by an unknown i n d i v i d u a l . T h e protesters/demonstrators had gathered about 100 metres

from the Hall before making their way towards the venue. While Mr H R Mohammedy the Chairperson of the CCG was addressing the audience, the protesters made their first attempt to forcibly enter the hall. This was approximately 15 minutes into the programme. When Mr Gordhan was on the podium, a more violent attempt to enter the premises was made by the protesters. They broke down the roll-up shutter door and gained access into the kitchen. They vandalized the area and stole refreshments. They hurled 2 litre cold drinks at the volunteers, causing injury to a few women. They also overturned pots of food that

were prepared in the cooking area in another part of the hall. They also intimidated staff of the catering company and stole some of their personal effects. Mr Gordhan had to curtail his speech as he had an early flight to Johannesburg at 18h40. As there was concern about his and his wife's safety, his bodyguard whisked them away. The CCG is indebted to the younger male guests who formed a barrier in front of the entrance to the hall thus preventing the protesters from gaining entry. Were it not for their intervention, greater damage to person and property would have been caused. The CCG is disappointed at the lack of co-operation by SAPS. Inspite of many calls made by guests and officials,

SAPS did not respond timeously. They came much later after the damage was done. A request for police protection was made about a fortnight ago. A letter was addressed to the cluster commander, General Chirwa for his attention. This matter will be taken up with a higher authority. Placards carried by the protesters read: 'PG a sell-out of the struggle'; 'ANC is better off without traitors'; 'PG is the co-author of The President's Keepers'. Protesters were seen wearing T-shirts of the ANC, some bearing the face of ANC Presidential hopeful Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma. It is quite clear from this who these protestors were representing. It is expected that leaders of represented organisations would discipline their members. The CCG is in consultation with its legal team and will open criminal charges. We expect the authorities to discharge their obligations in respect of this. Despite the disruptions, the function continued as planned and concluded successfully. The CCG wishes to apologise to our guests, especially Mr Gordhan for the unruly behaviour of the protesters and the interruption caused.

Maphumulo receives first ever Library By Xpress Reporter

Maphumulo Local Municipality Mayor Zibuyisile KhuzwayoDlamini in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture oversaw the official opening of Maphumulo Public Library on Tuesday, 21 November 2017. The state of the art facility sits at close proximity to schools around this area. Prior to this handover, Maphumulo was the only

local municipality that did not have a library under iLembe District. The facility has been equipped with free internet and other modern technologies designed to assist young people from all walks of life. It is also one of the three libraries benefitting from the Mzansi Libraries online project. Speaking at this event, Khuzwayo-Dlamini said, “I am certain that the resources you will find in this library

will help many of you in your path of progression. Books on business development, health, philosophy, science and technology, parenting and many others will also be stocked as time goes on. I urge you to use this valuable tool.” The Mayor also acknowledged the Department of Arts and Culture on the sterling work that they are doing and the government on remaining

The festive season is all but upon us, this is the time of the year where people get their well-deserved breaks and celebrate everything they have achieved in the year. In trying to ensure that safety, peace and order is maintained during this period of the year, KwaDukuza Municipality has offered pointers on how people can go about having fun while ensuring that they arrive alive wherever they go, especially those who are driving. Drunk Driving is one of the biggest threats to Road Safety in South Africa. Research indicates that 50% of people who die on the roads have a blood alcohol concentration above 0.05 gram per 100 millilitres. The Municipality through its communications office has assured all thrill seekers that they will be protected but they should also abide by the regulations. “As the KwaDukuza Municipality, we wish to state that a zero tolerance approach will be exercised on individuals driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drug having narcotic effect, or with excessive amount of alcohol in blood or breath on our roads, as provided for by Section 65 of

XPress The opening prayer for the Memorial at the Shakaskraal Heritage Site was conducted on Sunday, 19 November 2017. Deputy Mayor of KwaDukuza, Councillor Dolly Govender graced the event. From 1860, indentured Indians were brought to the then Natal to work on the sugar cane plantations. The Chakaskraal Sugar Estate also received many of these emigrants who worked on the sugar estate or in the Chakaskraal Sugar Mill. A genealogy search by Tholsi Mudly assisted by Late N.P Moodley, Absolam Dube, Billy Govender, late Bobby Govender, Bobby Padayachee, Sam Moodley and Krish Moodley led to the re discovery of this site in 2011. Amafa (the heritage agency of KZN) and the property owner Mr Alberto Mattioda were informed. Negotiations began and finally in November 2015 the site was declared a Heritage Site. Amafa has erected an impressive memorial. Descendants, family members and friends are urged to visit this site to pay homage to the pioneers of Shakaskraal.

Notice is hereby given that the Development Planning Sub-Directorate will be closed for submission of all Building Plans and Development Planning Applications from the 8th of December 2017 to the 15th of January 2018. The aforementioned period is perceived as not effective in terms of full participation by relevant stakeholders due to its “Holiday Season” nature. During this period she and her son stayed with her sonin law, Sunesh Makraj next door to her former house. The Gobardan family places on record their sincere thanks and gratitude to all those that rallied around to assist. KDDA Awards Presentation KwaDukuza Darts Association, celebrating 25 years, held a glittering awards presentation at the Quartz Sports Bar this past Saturday. Players and teams were honoured for their exemplary play during the 2017 season. Len Naidoo, who was ultra-consistent throughout the season was honoured with the Peoples' Player

of the year. President of the association, Sharm Padayachee mentioned in his address that the league started off as a 6-a-side league but later changed to a 4-a-side league which proved to be very successful. However, spirits dampened when one of the teams pulled out. He said that he hopes

to see all teams' progress in the New Year. He thanked all sponsors who have attributed towards a successful season.
