KwaDukuza's school from hell (Glenhills Secondary School) is back in the news again this week….again for wrong reasons! Following last week's explosion about a learners boozing party that turned sour at the school, a deeply concerned parent has approached Xpress Times to relate a story about an incident that took place outside the school gate last week Tuesday morning. Reports in the media suggested that a scuffle had broken out outside the school that had resulted in someone being “stabbed” and “pushed in front of an oncoming vehicle”. According to the concerned parent, Mr Dean Naidoo, whose younger son is in Grade

School brawl leaves parent and son traumatized
Continued from page 1 8 at the school, the alleged stabbing victim was his elder son, who is not a learner at the school, but was present when the scuffle broke out. Naidoo claims that his younger son, who is in Grade 8 at the school, has been a victim of bullying for quite some time. He further alleges that he himself has been t the school on numerous occasions to alert the authorities about this situation, but getting very little joy from the school management. “Things came to a head when on Friday (16/09/2016) my son and another learner were grabbed and thrown into a locker room at the school by a group of bullies, who then proceeded to harass them, demanding money from them. You see, they (the group of bullies) always demand money from learners who are smaller and weaker physically, just so they can support their drug habit and gambling problems,” claims Mr Naidoo. He said on Monday morning he again visited the school and had a meeting with a senior member of the school management team, but later that day, his son was again allegedly assaulted by the bullies, while inside the classroom. On Monday afternoon Mr Naidoo went to KwaDukuza police station to lay charges, and police reportedly advised him that he could only lay a
charge of common assault, as his son had not sustained any visible injuries. This case has since been confirmed by KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Thulani Zwane, who said, “On 19 September 2016 at about 12:00, a 13-year-old pupil was allegedly assaulted by other pupils inside the classroom. A case of assault was opened at KwaDukuza police and no arrests have been made”. But Mr Naidoo's woes were not over. He claims that on the same day (Monday) he also confronted two of the alleged bullies about their tendencies, and was himself allegedly threatened by a huge mob. Fearing for his son's safety, Mr Naidoo says he decided to drop him off at school the following day (Tuesday), accompanied by his elder son. He claims that as his son was about to enter the school, he was accosted by a group of boys and as he and his elder son went to separate them, being assisted by another black male friend, the four of them were allegedly attacked, and a full blown scuffle broke out. He says his elder son was forced to block off a plunge from one of the boys, who was wielding a sharp object, which could have been a knife, and his hand suffered some serious cuts. Naidoo's vehicle was also allegedly damaged by the mob. Naidoo believes that one of the gang also sustained injuries in the scuffle. He

SCHOOL BRAWL: Dean Naidoo's vehicle was damaged and his son's hand cut during a scuffle outside Glenhills Secondary School
further claims that he was forced to abandon his vehicle, which had already been damaged by the attackers, and which was later retrieved by a friend. That same day Naidoo went back to the police station to lay a charge of malicious damage t property. His case has also been confirmed by Lieutenant Zwane, who stated that, “On 20 September 2016 at about 07:30, a 44-year-old male was dropping off his son at the school in Mars Drive when a group of about 10 scholars allegedly damaged his vehicle. The motive is unknown. A case of malicious damage to property was opened at KwaDukuza police
station and no arrest has been made at this stage”. Mr Naidoo further accuses the school of “not working on our favour to resolve the situation”. His says his family now lives in fear as the gang of learners are rumoured to be carrying out a “gangster type search” for them. Mr Naidoo is now in the process of seeking further recourse from the Department of Education, as his son's and his daughter's schooling has been disrupted. H's expressed satisfaction with the assistance he's been getting from Mr MAM Ngubande from the Department.

The legitimacy of car guards is once again being questioned by citizens who frequently witness their misconduct in the KwaDukuza CBD. There have been numerous complaints from motorists about their unpleasant encounters with car guards, with some residents alleging that they are “nothing but a nuisance and a hazard to motorists.” “Whilst some of them are courteous, others are downright rude and irritating. The two guards in King Shaka Street are permanently under the influence of alcohol and nobody from law enforcement agencies have taken any steps to even arrest them,” complained an irate community member.
PAGE 5
Unruly car guards a concern Another motorist expressed her frustration with the issue and argued that “this scourge is just another form of begging.” “They are unkempt and sometimes evidently intoxicated, which adds to the frustration of drivers whom they harass for payment. Their demanding manner is unacceptable and they seek payment despite not even knowing which vehicle we parked,” she said. A source who worked closely with car guards spoke on condition of anonymity. He states that the car guard system was a structure of the Community
Policing Forum, and oversight by the SAPS ensured that the system functioned smoothly and effectively. “Sadly, the system has been neglected and now there is no oversight body and nobody is accountable for the actions and behaviour of the car guards. Now the entire CBD is flooded with car guards, many who have had several brushes with the law for theft and drug related matters. “They are untrained, do not have any means to contact police for support, and cannot even take down details of a vehicle involved in an accident,” he said.

Crucial Safety Tips With the current spate of crime in and around KwaDukuza, it is important to stay alert and be prepared for unforeseen circumstances. Crime prevention means being aware of your environment and remaining alert to situations that could make you vulnerable to crime. Here are some safety tips that may save your life or the life of a loved one: General safety tips: · If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. · Once you get into your car after shopping, working, etc., do not wait. Lock the doors and leave.
About Us
Burglary Prevention Tips: · The average burglary happens in under 10 minutes, make your home difficult to break into. · Keep all doors and windows locked. · Keep garage doors closed. · Make your home look occupied, lights on. · Keep valuable items out of sight and well hidden. · Keep trees and shrubs around doors and windows trimmed. · Use outside lights around potential points of entry. · Report suspicious persons or vehicles, record license plate numbers. · If you come home to find a burglary, do not enter. When arriving and leaving home:
· If possible, try to drive out forward instead of reversing. That way it's easier to check the · road and surrounding area before having to fully exit the safety of your property. · Try not to be predictable by always leaving or arriving at the same time everyday, it makes it · easier for criminals to plan you as a target. · It also helps to approach from different directions or routes. · Take note of your surroundings, see who is normally there and be careful of strange people and suspicious or unknown vehicles.

Miss Pageant SA, Yolanda Mthiyane
By Xpress Reporter
A 9-year-old girl whose family originally hails from KwaDukuza has been crowned the Miss Pageant SA, in a glittering beauty pageant that was held in Ballito recently. Yolanda Mthiyane, a Grade 4 learner at Kloof Primary School,
outshone other radiant girls to take the crown, and is now looking forward to competing internationally. Her excited mother Mrs Sarah Mthiyane said her started modeling at the tender age of four, when she did some modeling for well known fashion retailers, including Fashion Fusion
and Cutie and Cuties. In 2015 Yolanda won Miss Little Upper Highway, and in March 2016 she scooped the Miss Little KZN, before topping it all off with the national crown, Miss Pageant SA. “Yolanda is very talented. She also does gymnastics at provincial level, ballet dancing as well as horse riding. She is also a volunteer at Sibusisiwe Orphanage. In 2017 she will be competing for Miss World,” enthused Mrs Mthiyane. Yolanda's aunt, Councillor Sdudla Mhlongo of iLembe District Municipality said she was initially not supportive of her niece immersing herself in modeling at such a young age, fearing this would affect her performance in school. “But after assessing for myself her results at school, I'm happy that she has been able to find the perfect balance between her studies and her career. As a family we are all very proud of her,” stated Cllr Mhlongo.

Council, Principals and Educators from various nearby schools were also in attendance. Addressing the demographically diverse audience the Deputy Mayor Cllr Phindile Sishi stressed the importance of education in a person's life. “For the person to prosper in life education is the most fundamental equipment” she said. The Deputy Mayor also warned the computer certificate graduates and the entire audience who came in large numbers to refrain from what she called unwanted and teenage pregnancy as this hinders one's progress. On behalf of the Education Department Dr Thobile Sithole said, “Some of us had lost their lives, loved ones, joy and families fighting for liberty, but today gates are open, we can become anything we want, we can be educators, doctors, nurses, lawyers only if we strive for the betterment of our lives and this can be achieved through education”. The Department Social Development delegate Mr Mxolisi Biyela said as the Department they had initiated what he called behavioural change programmes where they allow youth to have dialogues to discuss about issues affecting them. “We also have youth camps where youth debates about social ills like rape, drug-abuse and unemployment to mention just a few,” he said. Dr Nakanjani Sibiya also stressed the importance of education in people's life, reminding the attendees that former President Dr Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful tool that you can use to change the world”.

No way out An employee at the Department of Tourism in KwaDukuza was surprised when colleagues informed her that her vehicle was stolen at her workplace. She alerted car track and a short while later, a signal was picked up and the vehicle was found near the Blythedale area. Four occupants were arrested inside the vehicle. Bonga Mhlongo (42), Phumlani Khuluse (35), Xolani Nkabinde (23), all of Kwamashu, and Velethubeni Sikhakane (27) of Shakaville have a lot of explaining to do. They will seek bail this week which will likely be refused. Nowhere to stay In what appears to be a blatant attempt to find a roof over his head, a 20-year-old vagabond is not protesting his innocence. It is alleged that Luyanda Dlamini (20) broke into a house at Darnall and stole clothing, jewellery and electrical appliances. The earrings and a ring valued at R4800 were sold for a paltry R90. He was arrested at the taxi rank and handed over most of the stolen property. In court, he refused to apply for bail and told the magistrate that his parents had passed away and so too did his grandmother with whom he was staying. He intends to plead guilty next week to ensure he has somewhere to
go to. Stop the rot Another case of “township justice” reared its ugly head at court this week. Sphelele Ngwenya of Melville alleges that he was approached by a taxi driver who questioned him about missing items from his house. Upon denying knowledge of the items he was bundled into the boot of a vehicle and taken to a house belonging to the sister of the driver. He took him out of the vehicle and began assaulting him. Ngwenya was rescued by another taxi driver. Malibongwe Gumede (24) was charged with kidnapping and assault. He will seek bail this week. Vengeance Whether one has committed a crime or not, noone has the right to be the judge, jury or executioner. Sithembiso Shandu of Glenhills alleges he was approached at his house at about 6:30pm. He was approached by four men who dragged him out a n d b e g a n assaulting him. They accused him of stealing. He recognized one of his assailants and reported the
incident. Erick Mzobe (27), Sabelo Mzobe (29) and Wiseman Nzama (27) have a completely different version of events. Nevertheless, they have all been charged with assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and will appear in court on 13 October.

Man in hospital after vigilante attack By Xpress Reporter
A 33-year-old man is in critical condition in hospital following an alleged vigilante attack. According to sources, Thokozani Njovu Mashaya from Zakheni in Mandeni (Ward 12) was attacked by a group of men on Friday night, who accused him of being involved in criminal activities in the area. An eyewitness has alleged that Njovu was struck several times on the head with a car jack. Police have opened an investigation but at the time of going to press, no arrest had been made. Relatives say Njovu now fears for his life as he believes his attackers could attack him again when he comes out of hospital.
Stepfather woes A 17-year-old High School learner has had to endure being raped by her stepfather to keep the peace at home. She alleges that during July 2016, the stepfather allegedly raped her and threatened to kill the family if she spoke about the incident. During August he was touching her y o u n g e r s i s t e r inappropriately and she questioned him about his behaviour. When the sister left he allegedly raped her and threatened to burn the house if she spoke out. On another occasion, the 17-year-old found her stepfather in bed with her 12-year-old sister. She eventually spoke out and the 48-year-old stepfather was arrested. He will seek bail this week.

KwaDukuza Diwali Celebration At a recent meeting convened by interested members of the community, it was decided to form a new organisation to promote the celebration of Diwali which is probably one of the most auspicious functions in the Hindu religion. It was a practice in the past but this, however, sadly came to an end. Our intention is to revive this function and to promote peace and unity amongst all. Interested persons, religious sectors and others attended the meeting. The tentative date for the celebration is 29 October 2016 at the Stanger Manor Grounds. The day's events will include: Performance by various artistes,
including songs, dances, sketches, comedy, live bands and other performances; stalls; feeding; car show & shine; bike show & shine; car sound off; official opening and speech by the Honourable Mayor of KwaDukuza; radio broadcast. You are kindly invited to attend a planning session to prepare for this event. DATE: 29 September 2016 TIME: 6pm VENUE: Quartz Conference Centre Your presence is of vital importance to the success of this event. The Gift of Education
Why are so many parents neglecting their children so badly when it concerns their education. You give them all the privileges in the world but don't teach them that with these privileges there are responsibilities. Mind you it is not all parents who do this. A select few invest their time in their child's education and this does wonders for how their child performs in the classroom. Do you not ask to see your child's books after school? Do you not ask him or her if they have any homework, assessments or projects? Do you just blindly accept their response to you when they say no? Do you do this because you do not want to invest your time and energy helping them? All government schools adhere to a standardised system of education a system of education that expects learners to complete certain assigned tasks in the form of homework, assignments and projects at home. Hence taking it for granted that your child does all their learning in school and there is no learning that is expected to take place at home is ridiculously insane. Parents you are not teaching your children to value education.... they come into the classroom with a lazy don't care attitude and this is starting from a very young age. You need to start showing greater initiative regarding your child's attitude towards school. Teachers are not miracle workers we cannot force your child to learn if you as a parent are not instilling a culture of learning in them. Instead there is a growing culture of hate towards being educated which a real shame is considering how much past generations fought for and stressed upon the importance of education. Admittedly not all learners are academically inclined and they are not expected to be but not being able to read and not having basic mathematical skills is a grave cause for concern. How are they going to function within a society as independent adults without these skills? The answer is that they will not. Do this now while they are still young. It will save you a lot of heartache in the near future when you realise that your grown adult child cannot fend for themselves or much worse has turned to a life of crime…a reality in present day South Africa. Always remember that the material gifts you give your child will soon fade away after you are gone... the gift of education is the only gift that will remain with them forever. Yours sincerely A very disappointed and disillusioned teacher

I thought of you with love. Today but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.

I think of you in silence, I often speak your name. All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part. God has you in his keeping. I have you in my heart

A Mother’s love, is sure to find A way to comfort, ease your mind. She knows just how to build you up. When you’re so down and can’t look up. You love the way she makes you feel, like you’re so special, her ideal, her thought must start with GOD above to bring such caring with such love and as it flows, like gentle rain. It surely helps when troubles pain. The love from mine is oh so clear. I only wish she was still here. Her warming glow is missed each day. Even though, I seldom say but she did leave her gift behind to help me through when I may pine. And thats the feel known deep inside. Her faith and love, I still confide

MY WIFE TOLD ME TO GO TO HELL WHEN I WAS POOR BUT SHE WANTS ME BACK BECAUSE IM RICH I am Cliff from Umhlanga. I came to know about Mama Alisha from Auntie Merina who lives in Stanger and had previously visited her with a financial problem and it had been fixed. I had lost all my money, cars, business some of which was left to me by my late parents. When things went real bad. My wife told me to go to hell and started having affairs looking out for rich men and when I confronted her about it she told me go to hell, left me alone and went. I suffered for almost 2 years but meeting Mama Alisha rose me up again. She gave me a magic wallet with which I could get money daily inside my house. I opened up a new business worth 2 million rands bought 2 new cars and when my wife heard that I am up again she wants me back, thinking of forgiving her but am not sure. Only that she is the mother of my 3 kids. I can forgive her for only that. If Alisha bought my life back to normal, I know she can help you too.

2016 THE BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE- ALL THANKS TO MAMA ALISHA I am Mr Vijay Tinnet from Stanger Manor. I was a security guard for 15 years but had nothing to show as my salary too was small. I had fear to marry becuase I had fear that I couldn’t support a big family. One day I was chatting with Jan Corbus my previous work mate who had become rich so fast and he told me to go to Mama Alisha because she had helped him to get rich. He called her and told her he was sending me to her. The next day I went, she started with a prayer, then she told me to use a magic wallet. I took the magic wallet home, after only 3 days she had told me I woke up checked the wallet and here was a lot of money. I went back to her she said it will bring more. I bought myself a brand new range rover & A home in Umhlanga and also got married. I opened my own business thanks too Mama Alisha

And thought he was just joking to people that BAABA MUGO use the short boys to put a lot of money in the bank acceptant in 2 hours. But it was like a dream to me since I was just trying to get a help because I also lost a lot of money to many people then I just loose hope that magic can not happen in this world to me. I ask BAABA MUGO to help to put money in my house because I don't have the bank account and we were all shocked in the morning with my wife to see R1,000,000 that I request was in my wardrobe, and I payed him 10% from same money into his account. My wife also decided to contact BAABA MUGO for lucky numbers for power ball and we were very very happy on the Saturday to see all the 6 lucky numbers were out. We thank this white man for his testimony as well as BAABA MUGO. Without you our life was in dark but know I can see some light and I can also see where I am going. KDVA to host the Moon & sons KO Moon & Sons have come on board once again when they injected R2500 into the coffers of KwaDukuza Volleyball Association for a knock out tournament that gets underway tomorrow at the association courts commencing at 7pm. An ecstatic president of KDVA, Isaac Abraham thanked Devan Moonsamy of Moon & Sons for coming on board once again with the generous sponsorship. He said that Moonsamy has a long association with volleyball having formed, then played and skippered and now is the manager of Stanger Heights based Sunbrook Volleyball Club who dominated the social ranks for a number of years. The tournament caters only for Division I teams and will be contest by 6 teams. Moonsamy, hoping for the cup to remain in Stanger Heights was given a rude awakening at the draws held at the Quarts Conference Center this past Monday. Sunbrook were drawn against undefeated Darnall United in the bottom half quarter finals. However, Moonsamy is confident of causing an upset. The winner will take on Preston in the semi-final. The top half of the draw saw Frendz get a bye into semi-final
and will meet the winners of the quarter final clash between Cool Leaders and Manor Old Boys. On paper, volleyball fundi's are predicting a Cool Leaders/Darnall final but tournaments are known to be unpredictable. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers at the Awards presentation later this year. The two semi-finals are scheduled for next Thursday, 6 October whilst the play-off and final will take place on 13 October. Manor Primary and KwaDukuza to contest cricket final Manor Primary School and KwaDukuza Primary will contest the final of the Shivendra Velan memorial sixa-side cricket tournament at the Manor Ground on Wednesday, September 28 at 12 noon. The 2016 final is a repeat of last year's final and hosts Manor will be hoping to reclaim the title after going down to KwaDukuza Primary. It promises to be a real humdinger and definitely not for the fainthearted. On Friday, Ashram booked their place in the semi's with an emphatic 5-wickets victory against the more fancied Dawnview lads. Dawnview batted first after winning the toss and were skittled out for a paltry 11 runs in the 3rd over after some fiery bowling from Thokoza Mdlalose, who claimed four wickets from four overs. Msizi Sibiya (9) scored the bulk of the 12-runs needed for victory to guide them into the semi's. In an earlier quarter-final clash, KwaDukuza Primary batted first against rookies Harry Bodasingh and posted a whopping 64/3 in their allotted 5-overs (thanks mainly to the wides and byes conceded by
their rivals). In reply Harry Bodasingh were restricted to 19/4 in their allotted 5 overs. In the semi's, KwaDukuza Primary notched up 30/4 in their allotted 5-overs with Rohan (9) the top scorer. Ashram were well within the run chase, needing five runs from the last over to book their place in the final. But, they were utterly disappointed after finishing on 29/3 (just one run short of sending the defending champions crashing out of the tournament) in their allotted 5overs despite a brilliant knock of 19 from Msizi Sibiya. At the Manor Ground, the hosts Manor Primary got off to a flying start after trouncing Glenhills Primary by 23-runs. Manor batted first and posted 48/2 before restricting their rivals to 25/0 to advance to the semi-final. In the semi's Manor batted first and put on a phenomenal 51/0 in their allotted 5 overs thanks to a brilliant 31 not out notched up by man-of-thematch Nceba Hoto. Chasing 52 runs for victory Stanger Heights could only muster 13 all out in four overs to bow out of the tournament.
with 1379m climbing and the riding time being 6hrs with sunny and warm weather conditions.

Stanger teams fare poorly in Champions Cup The 2016 Champions Cup hosted by Volleyball South Africa at UKZN's Westville Campus Sports Centre was a baptism of fire for the Stanger teams as none of them proceeded past the group stage. Winning only one of their four matches in their respective groups automatically pushed both teams out of the top two placing. Winning two of their four matches gave KSST a glimmer of hope of making it into the quarter finals. However on a points difference they had to settle for a 3rd
place in their group. For the Stanger lads its back to the drawing boards with a sense of urgency as the outgoing President of VSA, Tubby Reddy, announced that he would sponsor a national inter club championship to the tune of R50 000 for each gender must spur them on to get a slice of the staggering prize money. The tournament will be staged in Durban over a three year period. Meanwhile the men's final between Tongaat's Liberte and Johannesburg based Quantum was a mouthwatering encounter with Liberte edging out the visitors by 3 sets to 2 (21-25; 2515; 25-23; 24-26; 15-11 to lift the Champions Cup silverware. Liberte were the inaugural PR No. 1478311 MB ChB (Natal) winners of the Champions Cup in 18 Lindley Street, Lindley Court 2000. between the Western Cape and Gauteng. Liberte are the only KZN team, to date, to have their names engraved onto the Champions Cup. Unfazed by losing the opening set 21-25 to Quantum, Liberte bounced back to thrash their opponents by a 25-15 score line. They went on to narrowly win the 3rd set by 25-23 margin. The 'do or die'4th set was an explosive affair with both teams thrilling the very vocal crowd with hard hitting spikes and long rallies. The set could have gone either way had it not been for the tournament's best attacker, Jamine Naidoo who went on to close proceedings for Quantum and level matters 2-2.With Liberte's play maker, Kiresh Harilal creating numerous attacking opportunities the Tongaat lads marched to the podium as gold medallists by posting a final set score of 15-11. In the women's final defending champions the University of Western Cape (UWC) beat the Vaal University of Technology(VUT) in straight sets, 25-16; 25-20; 25-22.
The special awards for women all went to UWC with Bejanke Della wing the best setter award, Martina Bonorova the best attacker award, Tasneem Claasens was adjudged the best blocker and Bonorova scooped the most valuable player award.
The mens award was dominated by Liberte with Kiresh Pillay scooping the setter and most valuable player award, Loueshan Gangarajh the blocker award with the best attacker award going to Jamine Naidoo from Quantum.
