Assassination attempt O.R Tambo memorial on KZN whistle-blower lecture held

WHISTLE-BLOWER: Whistle-Blower Thabiso Zulu is fighting for his life after an assassination attempt over the weekend

The whistle blower especially on political

killings in KwaZulu Natal, Thabiso Zulu is fighting for his life in an undisclosed

hospital after an alleged assassination attempt on Sunday. It's reported Zulu was shot by three armed men, he sustained an injury on his arm. The African National Congress chairperson in the province Sihle Zikalala announced that the ANC is shocked by the attempt on Thabiso Zulu's life. “We're very concerned about this situation because we thought that we had now stabilised as a province. We thought we had reached a point where issues of this nature are no longer there,” said ANC chairperson Sihle Zikalala. The provincial ANC chairman has promised an urgent intervention to deal with this matter and that support and protection will be provided to Zulu. He said the ANC in the province will be engaging with the relevant authorities to process such an intervention. In addition Zikalala said the attack on Zulu undermines the ANC's efforts to bring about stability in the province.

Missing child reunited with family

On Friday, 25 October 2019 at approximately 10:52 KwaDukuza SAPS Detectives, together with Umhlali K9 Search and Rescue, Ilembe Task team and Hawks Security successfully nabbed two suspects wanted for kidnapping 8-year-old Amahle Mthimkhulu. It is alleged that Amahle Mthimkhulu was taken o n W e d n e s d a y, 2 3 October 2019, outside Dawnview Primary School. In a bid to ensure that all businesses within KwaDukuza Municipality comply with legislation and the business act, KDM hosted a business licensing function with business owners in KwaDukuza to give an insight on the application process and the importance of having a business license. The meeting was held at KwaDukuza Municipality supper room on 22 October 2019. According to the Municipality, having a business license permits the Municipality to ensure that it's

aware of legal and illegal business trading. Business license is valid for as long as the business is in operation and it is still compliant with relevant legislation and ByLaws. It is renewable once a year. Ms Nonhlanhla Khumalo who chaired the meeting outlined that they face a lot of challenges when people are submitting their application for business licenses. “Applicants from shopping malls and other areas are submitting applications for business license however this being declined due to non-

On 21 October 2019, Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba announced that he would resign from his position. The announcement came after the election of Helen Zille as the Democratic Alliance's Federal Council chair. Two days after Mashaba's announcement, DA Leader Mmusi Maimane proclaimed that he has resigned from the

party and parliament but said he will continue his role as parliamentary leader if the party makes that decision until the end of the year. EFF praised Mashaba in a media statement. “Off all mayors who presided over opposition coalition governments in hung municipalities, following the outcome of the 2016 local elections, Herman Mashaba is the only one who never arrogated himself into

leadership style as if the DA had won an outright majority. He was always humble, consultative and willing to concede to superior logic” said the EFF in a statement. The Xpress Times spoke to DA spokesperson on community safety in KwaZulu Natal, Sharon Hoosen. She said that both performed their mandate with conviction and will be sorely missed in the DA. “We have seen many changes for

the positive in terms of service delivery for the residents in Gauteng. Although they have chosen to exit the party, that does not change the mandate of the Democratic Alliance. We are still dedicated as ever to ensure that we continue to grow our support and continue to fight for a One South Africa for All and hold the ruling party to account,” said Hoosen. In conclusion, Hoosen

further assured DA members in ILembe District that they are geared up for the 2021 local elections. “ILembe has 14 Councillors and we are still committed to serve the community of ILembe and look forward to growing our support. On Thursday, 24 October 2019, a fight broke out at Stanger High School where one pupil was stabbed and rushed to hospital. According to K9 Security, the suspect was arrested and detained at KwaDukuza SAPS. All hell broke loose on Friday when friends of the victim allegedly came to the school to avenge him. “One guy pulled out a knife on a security guard but we managed to arrest that person and the other guys fled,” stated K9 Security. According to KwaDukuza SAPS Communications officer Priya Nunkumar, 5 people have been arrested in relation to the incident.

He was the first captain of a unified Natal Cricket Board side that participated in the inaugural Dadabhai Cup tournament in Johannesburg in 1961-62. His leadership of a diversified team selected only after 3 months of competition amongst the Black races reveals statesmanship of the highest degree. His captaincy was foremost in the team just failing to lift the trophy by one point. He captained Orientals of Pietermaritzburg in the Super League in the early 60s. After his retirement, he served as Administrative Secretary of the NCB under Abdulla Khan. He was then appointed Manager of the Board team for the 1974-75 season that was successful in lifting the Stellenbosch Farmers' Wineries KO Cup. He was an allround sportsmen who also played football, rugby and hockey at a very high level. Furthermore, he was an administrator of great ability who was the head of many sports clubs and associations throughout the province. Recently, he was honoured as a cricket legend by CSA and presented with a blazer signifying that he had been denied SA colours owing to the racist policies of the past regime. He was an educationist as well, retiring as Principal of the Briardene Primary School. The community has indeed lost a stalwart. May his soul rest in peace. Hamba Kahle, Solly Kirsten!

Darnall: The kings of KwaDukuza Darnall United are the kings of volleyball in KwaDukuza after they fellow title contenders Shakas Sporting in a pulsating game that brought the curtains down in the 2019 KwaDukuza Volleyball Association league last Thursday. Darnall were in a non comprising mood as they chased their quest for the title. Three teams were given the title of favourites at the start of the season, namely Darnall, Shakas and Bethel CC with the latter falling down the wayside during the course of the season with only Shakas the only threat to Darnall's ominous season. In Pool A, Darnall are favourites to qualify for the knockout stages. However the battle for the second spot will be closely contested between Bethel and Sunbrook. Pool B seems an easy passage with Shakas and MOB tipped to proceed into the next round. Will Darnall add the year end trophy to their bulging cabinet and is there upsets on the cards?
