Parking marshals put tools down By Xpress Reporter
Disgruntled parking marshals in KwaDukuza marched to KwaDukuza Municipality to deliver their memorandum regarding their salaries. KDM Liaison Officer Sipho Mkhize said, “Parking marshals submitted their memorandum, marshals are against the basic salary of R1000 + commission. We are currently trying to solve this
matter as soon as possible.” The Municipality introduced the pay parking system last year, aiming to eradicate poverty among citizens. Parking marshals were promised to earn a salary of R3 000. Speaking to the Xpress Times, a marshal who wished to remain anonymous, also raised the issue of insufficient uniforms.

R2000 Round Calabash KEYNOTE: The Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality, Cllr N.R Mthembu delivering the keynote address at the Bursary awarding ceremony held at KwaDukuza Town Hall
Continued from page 1 ride and it will get lonely sometimes but keep in mind that short cuts will get you nowhere in life. We want to see you succeed and become better versions of yourselves. Entertainment can take the back seat until you qualify in your respective fields. That's one of the main reason we started this programme of bursaries”, advised the Mayor. “You are the lucky generation, you have a municipality that is always ready to lend a helping hand. We as the municipality strongly believe that through education, we break chains of poverty,” added Mthembu. The Municipality received over 500 applications for bursaries but only 142 students were successful. Manager of Youth Development, Mr W Cele ensured members of the community that they are working hard to provide for more students from disadvantaged

The Mall saga continues: But from within With reference to the above headline and letter marked for the attention of His Worship the Mayor of KwaDukuza, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu, which appeared in the Xpress Times publication dated 24 January 2018 (Pg14); the office of the Mayor had denied
receiving such correspondence from the author of the letter, Mr Brian Mpono, Chief of Staff, Office of the Chairman: Vivian Reddy. A statement issued by the Office of the Mayor reads as follows: “I would like to confirm that
the Office of His Worship the Mayor of KwaDukuza, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu, has not received these two correspondence from Mr. Sanele Mthiyane and Mr. Brian Mpono. We wish to allude to the public that Mayor Mthembu has an open door
policy to those wishing to engage him regardless of the subject matter. This can be achieved by means of setting up an appointment with His office or via email which is RicardoM@kwadukuza.gov.z a and/or via His personal assistant Thabile Zondo on ThabileZ@kwadukuza .gov.za.”
ANC hosts Special Regional Council
The African National Congress (ANC) in the Greater KwaDukuza Region has welcomed the establishment of the Provincial Interim Structure (PIS) during its Special Regional Council at the weekend which follows the suspension of the Provincial Executive Committee in KwaZulu-Natal. “The establishment of the PIS in the province will help forge unity and rebuild our structures in preparation for the Regional Conference which should take place not later than April in the lead up to the Provincial Conference,” said ANC Regional Secretary, Thabani Mdlalose. The region also endorsed the roadmap towards the provincial Conference. Where in principle, branches have been briefed about the timeframes of the Conference and emphasis have been placed on branches that they play by the rules and the Constitution of the
ANC and not otherwise. “Our branches have been appraised by the timelines and expectations into conferences and it is our task now to ensure that all branches are organised. We hope that the interim structure will carry out its work as expected which is fundamentally, to carry out the decisions and instructions of higher structures and conduct the current work of the ANC.” The region also expressed its absolute rejection of those who have been spreading negative statements against the Provincial Task Team. “We condemn these insinuations in the strongest terms and wish to emphasise that we are confident and happy with the current structure.” The regional council also accepted the report back on the 54th National Congress and noted the theme for the year 2018 for the ANC as the year of
Renewal, Unity and Jobs. “We also note that this is a very important year for the ANC as it celebrates one of its remarkable leaders, Nelson Mandela. Mandela would have turned 100 years had he lived therefore, this calls for celebration and we acknowledge that this is being taken seriously by leadership. “We send grand salutes to the matric class of 2017 on the impressive improvement from the 52.42% mark in 2016 to 64.91% in 2017. We appreciate such outcomes and hope that this trend will be a sustained growth pattern of progress. We call on all members and supporters of the ANC to join in the campaign to mobilize ANC supporters to get registered on the roll between the 10th and 11th of March 2018 so that they may be eligible to vote in the 2019 General Elections.”

Most areas in KwaDukuza today are now benefitting from the Thukela Bulk Scheme from our own budget. You go to Darnall today and they are no longer drinking that terrible water they used to drink. You go to Zinkwazi today, go to Zamani and go to Lindelani. Very soon it will be San Souci, Malende and Mgigimbe,” said Mayor Gumede. The pipeline broke twice on Saturday morning in different sections and a contractor along with the District's technical team were on site attending to the repairs. “We would like to plead with the community to be patient with us. We understand their frustrations but we are working around the clock to make sure that we resolve these problems,” said Mayor Gumede.

Addressing the community outrage on social media, Mayor Gumede said he was hurt by the attacks as they were not justified. “We have made great strides in an effort to turn this municipality around. When we got here everything was done by contractors and now it's our own staff. Obviously in a big job like this we will have contractors assisting. In the past we were paying for our workers' salaries and contractors. I'm one of the mayors who is very unpopular with some of these contractors. Some of them were even claiming for jobs not even done,” he said. Cllr Gumede said council had a three-year plan to change the situation so that people will have a reliable water supply. “But we must talk about the

Our dedication to eradicate crime yielded to the arrest of this man. We suspect that there might be more dealers out there,” said KwaDukuza SAPS Spokesperson, Constable Khuzwayo. “We appeal to the community members to work hand in hand with the police, this is a problem for us all. Stanger Hospital. KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson, Constable S Khuzwayo confirmed that Ntleko and four other residents were arrested. “The case was opened at KwaDukuza SAPS

Suspected rock-throwers nabbed By Xpress Reporter
AWARDS: Awards presentation to top achievers
On 26 January 2018 the newly appointed General Manager of Sappi Mr. Christo Willemse met with parents and students. He addressed the learners and complimented them on their achievements in 2017. Comrades Marathon doublegold medalist, trail runner and multi-award winner Prodigal Khumalo, inspired learners with his motivational advice at the Aldinville Senior Primary School in Groutville on Thursday, 18 January 2018. Zimbabwean-born Khumalo addressed the enthusiastic group of learners, emphasising the importance of discipline, work and practice in all aspects of life.
“You must know what you want to achieve in life and focus on getting it. Do whatever you have to do, and give it your very best,” he said. The school is one of five no-fee schools in the KwaDukuza Municipality, and has been a part of the MRP Foundation's schools programme since 2010. The MRP Foundation is a youth development organisation which aims to empower less privileged
South African youth through quality education and skills development. School principal, Thulani Khumalo said, “A healthy mind is important, but having a healthy mind inside a healthy body is even more important.” He expressed his gratitude to MRP Foundation and Prodigal Khumalo for their roles in contributing towards learner development at his school.

MAMA ALISHA THANKS MAMA ALISHA FOR FIXING MY MARRIAGE. I am Sarosh Maharaj from Ballito and I thank Mama Alisha for bringing my husband back to me when I needed him the most. We used fight almost everyday up to when my husband of 7 years & 3 kids left me and I heard that they were planning to get married as he was asking for divorce from me. I confided in Mama Alisha after reading a testimoney in the paper. She told me to go and bath the muti water. She gave me and the rest she was the one to do it for me. After only 3 days my husband called and apologised, he told me everything about the other women and we decided to forgive each other. We are back together and I would love to tell you that she also fixed the financial problems we were having. Life is pretty good thanks to Mama Alisha

MAMA ALISHA THANKS ALOT MAMA ALISHA I am Salashnee from Shakaville Stanger. I’m here to thank Mama Alisha for helping me sell my property at a reasonable price. I was a proud Mother of 3 kids and was happily married. But my life turned upside down in 2014 when I lost all my 3 kids and their father in a road accident. I survived because I was at work that day. Since then I have panic attacks, My families memories were killing me and I decided to sell the house in 2015. Many people used to call come see the house but they don’t come back up to when I went to MAMA ALISHA after reading about her in the newspaper. She came to the house , blessed it and told me she will do the rest at her place of work. I was surprised when just in two weeks a buyer was found and I was given a reasonable amount of money. SARS to probe religious sector
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) will be engaging with religious institutions on its plans to investigate tax noncompliance in the religious sector. This is according to a statement issued by SARS on Friday. SARS reached the decision after a preliminary investigation, as well as taking into account a meeting with the CRL Rights Commission and general reports which suggested certain religious organisations and leaders are not complying with tax laws. However, the tax authority noted that there were religious institutions which are compliant. SARS plans to
raise awareness about the relevant tax obligations of these institutions, the tax authority said. According to the Income TaxAct, religious institutions may apply for an exemption. But once the tax exemption is granted there are requirements that need to be complied with, according to SARS. These include conducting activities in a non-profit manner with an altruistic or philanthropic intent. Additionally, the activity should not directly or indirectly promote “economic s e l f interest” of
a person, other than by a “reasonable remuneration” paid for the services rendered. Religious institutions are prohibited from directly or indirectly distributing funds to any person other than in performing their religious activity, according to SARS. “SARS is also concerned that proper taxes on trading activities that are unrelated to religious activities as well as Pay As You Earn (PAYE) on remuneration and other benefits are not being paid in

MINISTER: Minister of Finance Malusi Gigaba
By Xpress Reporter
There's a high possibility that VAT might be increased by 2% in order to boost South Africa's revenue. Minister of Finance in South Africa Malusi Gigaba said last week some tough decisions lay ahead as his department is on a mission to stabilise the economy of the country. Many economists argue that a valueadded tax (VAT) hike is the most effective way of raising additional
revenue. Increasing VAT might have bad consequences on the economy of the country. At the moment trade unions say increasing VAT will be a huge blow on poor South Africans. Speaking for the South African Federation of Trade Unions Patrick Craven, says tax increases will hit the poor directly through PAYE deductions. "Any increase in VAT, which we all pay every time we buy something, will also indirectly give capitalist businesses a reason for not investing and creating jobs” COSATU argues that VAT increase will empower people, “VAT is a regressive tax that hurts the poor and stifles demand and economic growth. Cosatu will fight any VAT increase, the treasury should increase VAT on luxury goods," said COSATU spokesperson. In February all eyes will be on Gigaba as it seems like increasing VAT is the only option he has at the moment but Economists say it will come with a political backlash.

Cheap Trouble An elderly Lindelani resident is facing the embarrassment of appearing in court for helping out friends. On approaching the house they were met by the elderly owner who provided them with the actives of the two persons who brought the stolen car to his house and whom he allowed to use one of his garages. However when the keys for the vehicle were requested he advised police that the two friends had it with them. Police inspected the vehicle and found a contraption attached to the ignition to assure it starts. The
