be on the Rodney Bingenheimer’s 2nd anniversary show on Sirius and I have played major events like the Download Festival. mBut there’s never been a better time, for right Meow! :) I’m trying to center in, rebuild, restructure & focus. One goal I had for myself was when I was modeling full time I was between 100-105 as my “fighting weight.” 3 years ago, I went up to 129 pounds. No one maybe really notices (or says they do ) but u, ish, but I went from a size 0 to a 5. Yesterday I hit 104, just checked, still am. Ok. Goal reached. Next. Tone & Hone in. Put out record. Get back out on tour. ReSee America. I miss my friends in far away places.

nikita

Who is the singer name Nikita. I am Nikita “kitty” La Tijera Meow Lead vocalist & rhythm Jackson guitarist of the band, Hear Kitty Kitty-Which is about having a voice. Speaking out for the people, being true to oneself & your beliefs. Making a difference in the world- starting with yourself. Nikita, as in la femme La tijera as in -from the street.Originally “princess of the street” slash punk rock street urchin The people’s people-was my concept -ish. Looking thru the window while u eat your fancy feast. Staying hungry & driven. But it’s also -not -about never finding fulfillment. Reaching. Aiming. Achieving. Striving. To eventually -claim your golden ring. Whatever the goal. Your goal. Our goal. As a people. As a unified voice We got the chance to catch up with this amazing woman, how have you been Ok, I get a little misty eyed when my long time, partner in crime, Cordell Crockett, is out doing hugely epic festival events, with his other band, Ugly Kid Joe.. I am not sure sometimes if I will ever reach that level of success, like direct support for Guns N’ Roses, chilling in high thread count bath robes in Tel Aviv. I used to be somewhat brazen now I’m somewhat humble. Hollywood can b a hard hustle. We have a great new record with awesome songs. I was honored to recently have HKK

What made you decide to be apart of a Alternative rock band? All I wanted to b growing up was Vince Neil. I would line up all my stuffed animals & sing the whole record of “Shout at the Devil” to them on an ice cream shaped comb which was my impromptu mic with lines on my face with my moms eyeliner like Niki or Tommy (depending on the day) with a red light bulb on (cus I was a Rebel )and Sting said I did not have to put on the red light, but I did. In my pajamas. In Philadelphia. Wanting to try my proverbial hand in the wild Wild West. What keeps you so motivated and driven when it comes to music? To make a difference in the world starting with yourself. To unite people To be like Lenny kravitz “u gotta let love rule”. We all bleed red. Hands across America. One nation. One love. Together we can change the world. What are some of the greatest achievement you have received as a singer? Endorsements by - Jackson guitars, jet city amps, pickworld picks, tres Sietes tequila, playing The Download Festival and the city of Carlisle, and touring the US many times. Hearing myself on the radio and being told I write songs that make a difference. Were can our readers find your music? Cheryl Cooley

We caught up with the Lovely Founder and guitarist Cheryl Cooley from the legendary group Klymaxx.. How you doing today? I am doing well. What age was you when you started the group? (not gonna answer that – a lady never tells her age) What made you get into the music industry? I started playing guitar when I was 11 and the spark of performing as a musician started from there. What was your first single as a solo/band ? “Never Underestimate The Power Of A Woman” – by Klymaxx (1981) How did you come up with a girls band and the name of the band? 1. All the girls in the band have a different life journey story as to how we all met up in the same rehearsal room and started playing together…fate, the Universe, Most High, Divine Order (whatever your belief system)…brought us all together. 2. We wanted a name with excitement, so we kinda played on words and spelling and arrived at: Klymaxx What was your first music video name? “The Men All Pause” How did you get notice by the major labels? We had sent our promo package to a few record labels at the time and were rejected because we were an all-girl band and no label thought it would work. I worked at a bank at the time and was telling my supervisor, Linda Pate, about this all-girl band I was in. She said, “Well, if you give me a demo tape, I’ll give it to my uncle, Johnny Pate, he is the producer for Minnie Riperton, Peabo Bryson… I gave her our demo tape and he asked to have a meeting with the band. At the meeting he expressed that he did not really think it was very good and may be we should try again and do a better recording. Now let me say for your readers, when one door closes that does not mean another door won’t open

to the same idea. Johnny happen to have lunch with an executive at Solar Records, Margret Nash. He gave her the tape and told her that he didn’t think that it was very good but maybe she could do something. When she listened she loved the idea of an all-female band and thought we had good musical potential. She immediately called me to come and see and listen to the band at our next rehearsal. Then she brought in the president of Solar Records, Dick Griffey and we were signed to Solar Records within months. How did you come up with the single “ Meeting in the ladies Room “ “Meeting In The Ladies Room” was written by Midnight Star who was one of our label-mates at Solar Records. Rumor has it that one of the guys from Midnight Start, Reggie Calloway, and his then-girlfriend were at a club and one of the girls in Klymaxx saw him and ran over to him and hugged and kissed him and the girlfriend got upset and jumped up from their table and went to the Ladies Room. He got an idea for a song with that title, “Meeting In The Ladies Room”. What was your first song being played on the radio? “Never Underestimate The Power Of A Woman” How has the music been changed sense then and now ? Back then there were many record companies that kinda acted like the gatekeepers to what music was played and distributed to the masses. Now that the entertainment industry has been de-regulated by President Clinton in 1996: “Telecommunications Act of 1996 deregulation” There are no gatekeepers as before and everyone can create whatever music they want without any higher standard for the masses to be buffered by.

Does it open for more artists, yes; but at what cost to the listeners quality of the arts? Some say back-theday music was better. Some say now-a-day’s music is open to opinion. What your feed back on hiphop and politics? I’m not real savvy on Hip Hop, but if it is a reflection of our now-politics, I fear for the future of young people and their interpretations of normalcy. So who are some of the artist that you listen to today? Me. (Laughing) Bruno Mars, Common, Roots…; I’m sorry I’m still Old School with the music content and lyrical meaning. After all, I have a college degree in music and my standard of music is much different than what’s on the current music radio stations. Being an all female band did you feel it was hard competing will all boy bands? Hum---- no because Klymaxx was/is good at what we do: music. Getting respect is another story. What was the first label that signed you? The only label Klymaxx was signed to was Solar Records for almost 10 years. However, they/Solar changed distributors and created Constellation Records with MCA and we recorded on that label but it was the same personnel. Ms. Cooley how did it feel to know you can play with some of the best guitar players around the world? Honored. And thank you for saying that. I love playing guitar and I hope that that shines through in my playing. Have you done any solo project yet? Well, we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds. Are you ready? (Laughing) I see you’re a minister? Do you feel that being a person of the cloth is a mix of good and bad? Yes I am and Nope! It’s all an

energy from the Creator, Creating, Creation. So being who you are do you feel the music industry has changed for the good or for the bad? Well, as I said before, the gatekeepers (the then-record executives) are not there to protect the higher quality of the music we are subject to and I feel that the buying public is being scammed by what better they could be absorbing from music and lyrics. And in my world, I would say, bad, but in this current world… what is good or bad? What advice can you give up girl band that are trying to come up in the industry as well? Don’t be influenced by people that have ulterior motives or are self-reflecting their own fears onto you desiring a music career; or even wanting to keep you at a controlled position in your/their life. Educate yourself on any and everything you can. Watch your finances. Maintain your health. Mind your mind. There is a big world out there, not just in your hood. The accepted mentality in Alabama is not the same mentality in Colorado or London. Travel, save money, learn, get educated, trust your intuition; and yes your dream is possible. Don’t be discouraged! Do you have any social media site were fans can no more about you? http://www.klymaxx.com/ http://www.myppk.com/get/Klymaxx http://www.facebook.com/klymaxxmusic https://twitter.com/klymaxx http://instagram.com/klymaxxmusic

Los Mocochetes What’s the name of your band? Los Mocochetes

Juan Gabriel, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Dizzy Gillespie and the list goes on and on and on!

Whats the origin of that name? Los Mocochetes, is a made up word that our bassist, Diego Florez created during a trip to New Mexico. It is simply the words, Mocoso (which means “booger kid” or a “little rascal” type kid) and Machete (is a sharp steel object used as a tool or weapon). In our case, our songs and instruments are our machetes and we use them to help build up our community, instead of utilizing them to harm or destroy. Please list the name, age, and respective instrument of each band member? Jose “Jozer” Guerrero: Lead vocals, Guira, and Bongos - age 27 Joshua Randy Abeyta: Guitar, Vocals, and Trumpet - age 35 Diego Florez: Bass and Vocals - age 23 Elias García: Guitar and Vocals - age 25 Eli Montoya: Congas - age 25 Jon Rubio: Drums - age 22

Could you briefly describe the music-making process? Often times one of us will just come in with a song written and will ask the rest of the band to figure out and create parts. Then other times maybe two members will get tougher share an idea and create a song together.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Our music is hard to categorize, we wanted to create a sound that really represent all of the voices that make up our band and country. So we mix Latin and African rhythms, with hip hop, rock, poetry, and so much more! If we had to choose a term we would say Xican@ Funk. Who are your major influences? All of us are musical nerds! We listen to everything we can! Chicano Batman, WAR, Kendrick Lamar, Los Angeles Azules, La Sonora Dinamita, Santana, Daniel Valdez, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chuck Berry,

What are your rehearsals generally like? We run a general set list for whatever show we play that weekend. If we aren’t playing, we work on new music. We discuss logistical details about gigs and potential opportunities near the end, and most importantly we have fun! lol! Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous? We rehearse once a week. How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? We are on every major social Media platform, as well as musical platform, including Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, iTunes, etc. Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD? losmocochetes.com
