Sonny Digital | hip hop producer

Hip-Hop Producer Sonny Digital Joins Generation Now to Further Fulfill His Dreams as a Rapper Sonny Digital discusses his signing with Generation Now, his journey to garner respect as a recording artist, and more. By Ahmad Davis

Atlantic Records Rap producer Sonny Digital is yearning for more. After having his handprints on some of the genre’s biggest records of the 2010s, including ILoveMakonnen’s “Tuesday” and Travis Scott’s “Stargazing,” Digital looks to take his career a step further after signing with Atlanta-based label Generation Now as a recording artist. Sonny Digital SEE LATEST VIDEOS, CHARTS AND NEWS “It feels great. I have genuine support,” Digital tells Billboard. “Not to say I needed any help, but everyone has to have some help. It is dope to have someone from home rocking out and helping me push the music.” Under the leadership of Generation Now co-founders Leighton “Lake” Morrison, Don Cannon, and DJ Drama, who have cultivated young rap superstars like Lil Uzi Vert and Jack Harlow, the sky’s the limit for Sonny’s ascension as a recording act. Cannon tells Billboard, “Sonny Digital has been on the forefront of rising new talent for a little over a decade,” while Drama considers the premier producer a “living legend in his own right.” Since 2010, Sonny Digital cemented himself behind the boards on RIAA-certified hits like YC’s “Racks” featuring Future, 2 Chainz & Kanye West’s double-platinum-certified anthem “Birthday Song,” Future’s classic shout-along “Same Damn Time,” and many more. Like Ye and Pharrell, Sonny hopes to assert his dominance as a recording artist after serving as a proven force on the production side over the last decade. Trending on Billboard Below, Billboard chatted with Sonny Digital to discuss his signing with Generation Now, his journey to garner respect as a recording artist, and his forthcoming full-length debut album, Mr. Digital. Why do you feel like now is the perfect time to drop a project? It’s a good time because I am going through a change. I am even changing my hair right now, so it feels like a new start. I have been ready to drop music, but it is happening like this; you feel me?

Like Kanye West & Pharrell, you are a star on both sides of the board. Talk to us about your mindset when you are in rapper mode. It’s usually more fun. I can go in with a completely open mind. I never go in with previous ideas, and I always start from scratch. I like letting the vibes flow. You are now signing with Generation Now, home to Jack Harlow & Lil Uzi Vert. What made Gen Now attractive to you? This is family. I have been rocking with their whole team doing business with Jack and Uzi for a while now. Even someone like Seddy Hendrix, we have been cool for years. He is in my studio more than Generation Now. My relationship with Don [Cannon] is what made me want to do it. He has been around since Metro Boomin came into the game. He was always there for us, and helped us as if he had some financial interest in it, even when he didn’t. It feels good to bring it all together and start doing business together. Generation Now is like a team with multiple coaches. Explain what Lake, DJ Drama, and Don Cannon bring to the table that differs from the other? Sonny: I will start with Lake. Lake handles all of the business for the whole team. Drama is a solidified, well-respected brand, like a walking billboard for Generation Now. He’s solidified so he can go in certain rooms that not everyone can. Cannon is in tune with everything. He might be a bit older, but he is in tune with everything popping up in the streets. He makes everyone feel important, and I think he has the most crucial role. After landing success on the Billboard charts as a producer, which record from your forthcoming LP, Mr. Digital do you believe in its potential to reach the same heights for you as a performing artist?

I am not sure, I just make the music. The people have the choice of what hits the charts. Also, there is some politics in it. If it were up to me, everything would be on there! It just takes specific steps to get there. Sonny Digital Sonny Digital - Guess What (feat. SSGKobe) [Official Music Video] Your newest record, “Guess What,” featuring SSG Kobe, is great. Is the rest of the project in this same lane, or can fans expect different vibes throughout the project? With Mr. Digital, I am just having fun! So this project will most definitely be aligned with that sound. It is me just connecting with the younger acts and rocking out. I did not even think I could rap on those types of beats at first. To me, it was something that did not feel too young or too old. It just further shows my versatility as a creator. You cannot put two of my beats together and tell that they came from the same person. Whether making a beat or rapping, I am just Atlanta has been leading the charge in hiphop for years now, and you are a big part of the city’s sound. What are some of your proudest contributions to Atlanta’s music culture? I feel like everything I did in the last ten years. Being here in Atlanta, I am reminded all the time — the people here always show love, especially if they know what’s happening. It doesn’t matter if it is only one or two records. It all contributes to how people look at me and respect me. Club Digital was a phenomenon on Clubhouse and in real life. Explain what that is for people who do not know, and why it is important to you?

It came together on Clubhouse. We were some of the first people on the app. Therefore, we were the main ones hosting conversations and inviting many people in there. After a while, I decided to invite everyone from the app to a party I had at my studio and just called it Club Digital. Over the past years, I have taken it more seriously. It became a staple in the city, and it has gotten to the point where I cannot even promote it, or it will be too many people here. I cannot believe what it has become. I am just living it, though. It is funny when I sit back and think about it. Now back to playing both sides of the board: Is it safe to say you are the happiest when you are rapping? What about rapping makes you feel good? I am having way more fun when rapping, because I have not reached a certain level when it comes to rapping. Production-wise, people expect a hit from me every single time, because I have done that before. I am still having fun whenever I create, but there is less to worry about when I am rapping. What do you think it will take for fans to truly respect your transition as a rapper? You know, I do not know. I always wonder if I should cut out being so humble and start flexing my accomplishments. I don’t know; I am still trying to figure that part out. I do know it takes music. I need to drop more content, and people need to see me being an artist more. I do not want to stop being a producer, but I do not want it at the forefront anymore. There are a lot of factors that make this wheel turn. We are working on everything to figure it out. There is a community of people who do this, and I might need to be the one who jumps out for everyone, besides Kanye, and let them know that this is possible.

We caught up with the lovely Linda Ngo and we spoke with her concerning her being a motivational speaker ...

linda Ngo

What made you want to become a motivational speaker? Honestly, for me, it’s a Simply About Empowering and Helping Others. With all the trials and tribulations I’ve been thru, I feel that sharing my Stories, my Vulnerabilities, my Victories and my Perspectives will be better used to Serve rather than to allow them to be wasted in vain… How long have you been a motivational speaker? Oooweeeeee, so I would honestly have to say since 2007, (15 years) even though im still 21ishhhh lol. What systems do you use when researching motivational topics? To be honest, no real system. I truly believe that everyone has a unique story and no one can tell Your story, so, Meditation and Manifestation is my system, then execute within the network that You attract and gravitate to. How would you ensure your speeches are captivating and informative? To ensure my speeches are captivating and informative, I’d study my audience, agree to stages that align with my story and be Authentic. What would you say is the most difficult part of being a motivational speaker? Hmm… that’s a tough one.. no matter how much I know Me and My story, the “Disease to Please” is heavy for me, so, hoping everyone who gave me their time felt that it was worth it, is probably what makes me feel anxious or nervous at times lol. And I know, I know, we can’t Please everyone, But still lol. . Can you tell me about a motivational talk where you felt the audience really connected with the subject matter? That’s a Great Question…hmm.. I think when I get the audience’s participation in one of my Topics of “Assumptions..” and Me sharing that my Dad shot and Killed My Mother when I was 3, along with a few more snippets of my life, they deemed me as Relatable, Transparent and Real… What are you most proud of? Oh that’s Easyyyyyy…My 3 Heartbeats!!! As a single mother, they made my life worth living. Their Hearts, Their high academic achievements, Their Perseverance, Their Love for Each other and friends.. just everything lol.. I’m just a Proud Mom Which one thing do you wish you’d done differently? Learn how to put me first some and understand that’s not being selfish. What’s the best book you’ve read this year? Don’t judge me, but I’ve been reading through Bruce Lee’s book. I found our philosophy is quite similar. Who are your role models or mentors? My kids, my friends, my circle… When you’re considering partnering with another person or business, what factors are deal-breakers for you? Arrogance, Greed, Vision, Energy…a whole lot, yet so little lol…

How do you keep your employees (or team members) keen and motivated? By Trusting them, Empowering them and letting them lead! What’s the most important factor you consider when hiring someone? Their work ethics, demeanor and customer service skills What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Does taking on Motherhood count? I was so nervous being a mother when I never had one to mimic or learn from.. man…the fears that came thru that first time I saw a Pregnancy Test…yet, my biggest risks, Yielded The Best Blessings.. What are your current goals? *Making sure all the businesses and projects in involved in are EXTREMELY successful *Continuing to be My Boys’ best friend *Picking up more Speaking Engagements to Empower more *Creating a Successful Coaching Class Do you have a website where people can reach you: I have ngolimitproductions.com, but honestly, everything is social media now. Chris “The Glove” Taylor

Chris “The Glove” Taylor: Former Death Row Producer Signs With NFT Drop The illustrious former Death Row Records producer Chris “The Glove” Taylor has recently signed a deal with NFT DROP LLC, whose focus is on tangible NFT memorabilia. The pioneering multi-platinum producer is joining top creators including Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records in leveraging Block chain technology to build NFT collections, and digital wearables to help drive new revenue streams with fans. Chris “The Glove” is well known in the industry for producing music including “Reckless” (Ice T), “Stranded on Death Row” (Dr. Dre), “Doggy Dogg World” (Snoop Dogg), “Phone Tap” (Nas, AZ and Nature), and a huge list of others. Taylor has also served as music coordinator, programmer, and assistant composer for the series “American Soul.” Played by fame, Tiny & Toya, The Parker’s, Frankie & Neffie, and Monica’s Still Standing, with song placements on NCIS Los Angeles, Empire, America’s Next Top Model, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Lost, King of Queens, and an array of others. It was an honor to have a conversation with “The Glove” regarding his NFT deal with NFT DROP, LLC, his newest release the Pimp Chronicles Experiment Soundtrack produced with Kmack On the Beat, and Sigueme with Tony Hasbun, and his career…. How and why did you become involved with NFTs? I started dealing with Web 3 stuff a few years back. I got involved with NFTs … it’s not even a short story… It’s just kind of a wandering trail. But the cool thing is I started with crypto in 2011. I was one of the first guys that was doing that. I got a coin for $92 and now it’s $41 in dollars. The whole thing with crypto, it’s burned on this collecting thing five years ago where people use the tokens to hold value without having actual money to be taxed. So I got into the actual performance part of it with Art. At first it was mostly visual art, like the Beatles selling an NFT for $68 million. Then it started to fall into learning about organizations, decentralized organizations and stuff. I’ve been like an underground builder of that so when I do release my NFT it will take off and no one will understand why. Why NFT DROP? Actually I do it myself but I went with NFT DROP because Rod is a friend of mine, we did some music work together. He said he wanted to do my NFT and I told him that I would allow him to do some and see what those guys could do. What secrets will your NFT hold? What is the plan for your NFT? What I’m going to release with NFT Drop is a song I released with Ice-T years ago from the movie “Breaking.” Reckless?

Right… that thing sold like 4 million copies. Actually I did the music and Ice-T did the vocals even though I was the artist. I’m going to re-release the Reckless song with me as the vocalist and the music. I became a rapper, I’ve been a singer, over the past year. I’m starting a lot of projects because of it. I was known as a producer but people seem to like my talking. It was surprising to me that I didn’t know. The reason I really wanted to get into the NFT part because it’s an ownership. So I was with Dr. Dre and Suge Knight with Death Row Records from the beginning… before Suge was even there. I watched that whole label get taken away from the artists. It was an artist’s label, and then it got taken away. It was Dre and DOC and the next thing you know it was Suge. So it was no longer an artist label, it was a dude trying to get money. It flipped over to the worst kind of label. So my thing with the NFT is that it brings back ownership. I talked with Snoop a lot. A lot of these guys hear you talking and they go and do things. So Snoop kind of took over the label recently? No, I went to Aftermath after Death Row. Snoop bought the name which was a very good move because he can remove all the streams from the streaming outlets. So all the guys can’t release under Death Row Records, they have to be something else unless he decides. Other than that the new music they have isn’t exciting. It’s almost like if somebody doesn’t come with a hit in a second it’s going to flounder. It needs something. Even Snoop doesn’t have a big hit record right now. He’s just hot, super hot, after and before the Super Bowl. He’s just hot. So what about you? What are you working on? I have a few releases slated. I’m doing my life story as an alternate reality graphic novel. A lot of my music is uncredited. The bigger records. So I decided to come up with my own version of Earth where I am credited. I can say anything I want because it’s all fake, or so they think. You know it’s a true fake story based in another place. But that was the graphic novel which was going to be my first NFT and I was going to couple it with utilities but I decided to do this Reckless one to go in historical order. I’ll drop that and then, I have new music. This thing I’m doing now is called Cahuenga Boulevard. It’s a documentary about my days with the most treacherous part of Death Row. That’s all it’s about. It’s not about me and my life story, none of that. It’s just about that. I’m telling the story of all of the ass whooping that happened in my songs. Very tastefully. I have some people interested in actually shooting it now. I’m going to turn this thing over in the next couple of weeks and push forward. I feel like a lot of artists got hurt during that time. Absolutely. Worse now. Also with NFTs it’s more about community than your music. They don’t care if it’s good. They like you and they want to support you so they buy. I decided to go where they have wallets and hang with them. That’s how you sell out in like 30 seconds. I’m not really looking for sales, I’m looking for interest. As the interest goes up so does my value. I’ve been devalued over 75 years and it’s time to turn it around.

valerie the librarian Since the first issue of The Amazing Spider-Man in 1962, Marvel Comics have published many iterations of the hero, both male and female, and even spanning over different species. From pigs and monkeys to aliens and humans, the spider based heroes have covered a lot of races and genera. Spider-Man began with Peter Parker and has seen many other versions since, with some being long-standing, such as Spider-Woman. Before the famous Jessica Drew, however, a black woman named Valerie the librarian adopted the mantle, and she made quite the impact. Marvel’s Original Spider-Woman Is a Forgotten POC - What Happened? © Provided by CBR Marvel’s Original Spider-Woman Is a Forgotten POC -

Valerie’s first appearance was in 1974 in issue #6 of Spidey Super Stories, a promotional comic produced by Marvel and the PBS TV series, The Electric Company, where she helped Spider-Man defeat a literal bookworm who was destroying books. Following this experience and witnessing Spider-Man take on higher caliber villains, Valerie wanted to become a hero herself. The opportunity literally fell into her lap in issue #11 in the form of a spider suit, which had been hanging from a web above where she was pondering. Related: Marvel Celebrates Spider-Man’s 60th Anniversary with Gaiman, Hickman, Cheung, Cho and More

Knowing she didn’t possess superpowers, Valerie attached suction cups to the hands and feet of the suit to allow her to climb walls. Spider-Man came across the newly self-appointed Spider-Woman practicing her wall crawling while he was searching for his missing suit. Eager to be a hero, Valerie convinces Peter that two Spider-People are better than one, which he accepts and offers his help should she need it. Immediately thereafter, the original Spider-Woman gets her taste of action. Spider-Man is snared by the Vulture but is saved by the new hero, who swings into action with her web shooters. Then she frees Peter and the two take the Vulture down with ease. In her first and last outing as Spider-Woman she helps to defeat one of the most formidable villains that Peter Parker has ever faced with a double web take down from the duo. Valerie the librarian had a short stint as Spider-Woman, but she was the first black, female hero in Marvel Comics. Black Panther made his debut in 1966 and only a few black superheroes were introduced between then and Valerie’s heroine debut. Because of the civil rights movement, Stan Lee was reportedly hesitant to publish black superheroes during the 1960s, though he did want to create characters with different backgrounds. When they did create Black Panther, his character leaned heavily on stereotypes of African culture as seen by Western people at that time. Subsequent heroes such as Luke Cage also began with these regressive stereotypes. What makes Valerie different from these examples is that her character doesn’t rely on stereotypes; she is simply an educated woman who wants to be a hero. Related: Marvel’s Mister Fantastic Wants to Develop a New Way to Use Vibranium With the expansion and increasing popularity of the Spider-Verse thanks to the graphic novel and movies, there is space for the first Spider-Woman to exist in the spotlight. Her story took place outside the main continuity of Spider-Man, but the Spider-Verse has given way to the possibility of bringing the other worlds together. Although it is a good thing to see Miles Morales gain popularity as a representation of the black/Peurto Rican, there is room for more heroes from different backgrounds. If Peter Parker is the most well known Spider-Man for being the first one, Valerie the librarian should be in the spotlight for being the first Spider-Woman.

Dionne Warwick: “Power In The Name” – First Female Recording Artist To Receive A 5 Million Contract by Eileen Shapiro Grammy Life- Time Achievement Award Winner and “Twitter Goddess” Dionne Warwick has just released an exhilarating and inspiring new song and video entitled “Power In The Name” along with two other powerful names in the music industry Krayzie Bone (Bones Thugs-n-Harmony) and NomaD (aka Damon Elliot, music producer). The song comes to us via the “Kind Music Group” label, and the proceeds of the song will be benefitting charities that provide shelter and clothing. “Power In The Name” comes at a time when the planet is mending and adjusting to a time where Heaven had been engulfed in flames and frost found and its way under all of our doorsteps. The song is uplifting and powerful...a spiritual quest where God himself propels the chariot. Ms. Warwick has recently come off of her last hit single “Nothings Impossible” featuring Chance the Rapper which was a result of a Twitter collaboration. She has recently appeared on “Good Morning America”, “Seth Myers” and “Saturday Night Live.” She has also performed in Vegas during the holidays at the Raiders/Colts game and had a seat on the “Masked Singer” Rose Parade float. Ms. Warwick continues to reinvent herself as well as her future. I love your new song so much! Wonderful, that’s good to hear. Thank you I have a feeling Damon wrote it? Yes, he did. He and Krazie wrote it, many years ago. I think it’s needed for one thing. As it turns out Krazie and Damon reconnected after many years of knowing each other and Damon called me and said he’d just spoken with Krazie and that Krazie reminded him of that song. He felt that it really, really needed to be done now. It’s so perfect for now. No doubt. These are words that need to be heard and felt, and I’m so proud of those two young boys. I really am. Damon has a really beautiful voice. Yeah he does. I’m discovering that both of them are able to sing. It was an epiphany. Where did all of this come from? Damon’s voice and your outfit in the video surprised me most of all. Aside from the uplifting and inspirational vibes, what are you hoping that the listener takes with them after hearing the song? That they’ll practice what is being said. Getting back to being like human beings and caring about each other. Doing for and with each other, these are the things that we have to do. We

are people. All of a sudden it becomes complete chaos, and it can be turned around. It can with positive words, prayer, praise, it’s necessary. I certainly hope that it touches people in that fashion. There is power in the name of Jesus...there is! Fortunately, I feel that this is a song whose words are far beyond race, color, religion, creed. I think it has the ability to sing to people generally. Wouldn’t that be nice. Yeah, it really would. I am so hopeful that is the case with this particular song. When are you running for President? ...not a bad idea. Yeah, the Queen of twitter announces she’s going to run for President ...why not? You are always reinventing yourself and your future, And that’s so great. So first of all where is all the inspiration coming from in doing all of these songs lately with these really cool rappers? You know I was the one, and I singularly say I. First time I look at myself it’s only me. I decided to give spankings to all these little rappers, with this so called “gangster rap”, and let them know how I felt personally and how it’s permeating the entire world. All of these things they were saying about people, it just was not nice. I thought “no”, we have to do something about this. Let us talk. So I was the one, and everyone thought I lost my mind, who went up against these rappers. But it wasn’t a case of where I was talking against them. I had several meetings with a lot of them over the years. I told them “If I didn’t care about you I wouldn’t even take time to talk with you.” “But there are some changes that you need to make on your own or with a little bit of guidance, and I think I’m old enough to give you just a little bit of that.“ And they started listening to me. They finally understood that I was not dissing them. I wanted to know what dissing meant, finally either Snoop or Krazie told me that it meant disrespect. I said to them “so then why not say that?” That’s when they understood that a grown-up was in their presence, and that I had something to say to them, and I wanted them to speak to me. It finally got to the point where there came a mutual respect understanding of each other. It seemed like a natural evolution that I would open myself to them. In fact, I did that long before my association with these kids today. We re-recorded “What The World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love”, it was wonderful. Both the East Coast and the West Coast were all in the same room with us doing “What The World Needs Now”, and it was a magical, magical moment. It just let you know how things could be and should be. So my relationship with these babies today only is the extension of what I started many years ago. Good for you...I’m liking this running for President thing more and more.... Secondly all of a sudden you became a Twitter superstar, and I think that you take Twitter more seriously than most. How did that come about? I do take it very seriously. Had my nieces and nephews over one afternoon. They were in my living room giggling away. They were just laughing and having the best time. I came out of the bedroom and said “what’s all the laughing about.” Brittany the eldest of the nieces at that time told me they were on Twitter. So I asked her where Twitter was. She explained it to me and she

showed me what they were laughing about. I looked at it and I was not that pleased with what I was seeing, what was being said on this thing called Twitter. I said “show me how to do it, I want to laugh too.” She said “you really want to know?” I said “yeah I do.” So she showed me how to do it and I finally decided on my first one to just make my presence known. I kind of put it out there that there’s a grown-up in the room now and what I’m seeing put out there I’m not pleased with, I’m going to start asking questions, and I expect to get answers. I want you to also know that you can ask me questions and you will get answers. That really was the genesis of it. I started getting responses from these kids asking all kinds of questions, having basically to do with the business. Then there were some serious questions regarding their parents and what their parents thought, and I would respond to them. I would let them know that their parents were exactly that, their parents! So that respect should be given. I just wanted to give you that ounce of knowledge so that hopefully you would use it. That started the ball rolling. I would always end whatever I do, and I do this in general life, in conversations, in meetings or anything of that nature, with a smile. I wanted them to understand that. You can say what you gotta say however, remember to end it with a smile. Knowing everything that you know now, what advice would you give to baby Dionne? Exactly the advice that she was given as a baby. I practiced that too. I was always told “you be who you are, you can’t be anyone other than who you are.” I truly believe that. That’s actually true and really good advice. So how did you wind up on “Saturday Night Live?” Well they decided that they wanted to do a parody on Dionne Warwick with the Dionne Warwick show. It really came as a surprise to me that they wanted me to come on as a guest. It was a bunch of fun. One of my friend called me and was watching “Saturday Night Live.” She told me to turn it on. I told her it was so late and I’m going to sleep. She insisted that I turn it on. I turned it on in there I was. I think I laughed louder than the audience did. It was just so much fun and it was a wonderful thank you to me. It just kept Dionne Warwick in people’s faces. That was wonderful. They did it in such a wonderful and classy way. It was fun and it was easy and there was nothing for me not to like. You are an idol to so many people. There is no one on the planet who doesn’t know your name or at least one of your songs. So I was wondering, do you have an idol? Oh my goodness. Do you know somebody asked me that a long, long, long time ago? The first word out of my mouth was yes, my mother. She was and still is my idol. She is the lady I was around 24/7. She is the one who gave me the reason for being, for doing what I do. She spoke to me in a fashion as a parent but also as a loving friend. She played both parts. I revered her. That’s the truth. What projects do have for 2022 and beyond.? I’m going to do a gospel cd and the genesis of that is “Power In The Name.” I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to call upon esteemed gospel friends to be a part of it. I’ve already spoken to Kirk Franklin and we’re speaking to Don McClurkin, and I think it’s going to be a very powerful project. Again, that is necessary. People need to hear some positive words coming out of music today. Photo Credit: David Vance

Sayonne

Sayonne: “Hot Sauce” Rising R&B artist Sayonne proudly announces the release of her saucy new single sensation entitled “Hot Sauce.” This is a prelude to her new album soon to be released. No stranger to the live stage, Sayonne has a history of performing on stage and Off-Broadway musicals. She has also launched and produced her very own record label called 5 Bars Records. Courageously the actor, producer has now become a musical artist eager to fulfill her creative dream. Sayonne and I shared questions and answers regarding her career, her new projects, and her recent participation in the Ali Forney fund raiser for homeless LGBTQ youths. What inspired your new song “Hot Sauce”, and is there a message that comes along with it? The inspiration behind my song “Hot Sauce” is my forever desire to uplift the hearts of not only my fans, but also my family through song. “Hot Sauce” was a song that my music team and I creatively stumbled across. My team and I were vibing in the studio conversing and I was expressing to my co-producer [Faraoh Black] and co-writer [Jackie’s Boy] that I wanted something fresh, new, bouncy and up-tempo to contrast the previous works I recorded and have released. At that particular time, I had recorded about 11 new songs in which I shared with my loving brother to see if I could satisfy his musical taste palette and I finally succeed with “Hot Sauce.” You are currently in the process of creating a new album, what can your fans expect? Yes, a new album is on the way. I am extremely excited to release fresh material for my fans who have been patiently waiting for the musical continuation after my previous release, 2 Worlds EP. I believe this new album is just the right amount of ear candy that the music scene has long been craving. Due to the pandemic, music is in a little drought, but I am hopeful that my lyrical vulnerability and relative music will make a difference. You’ve done stage work and off-Broadway projects, what made you decide to go full force into the music industry? Being in the theatrical world has helped me grow and discover my authentic self within my artistry. My experience in various stage works has greatly influenced my drive to go full force into the music industry. I got so use to the routine of living in someone else’s shoes, stretching my character range, fulfilling someone else’s dreams on stage that one day I mustered up the courage to step out on my own and be creatively free. There is creative freedom when you leap beyond your comfort zone, push through the fears and leave your present security. That is the very reason why I sing, write, record and still perform today. You’ve also launched your own record label, what motivated you to take on that endeavor?

I launched my own record label [5 Bars Records] because it was time for me to learn the business side of the music industry. It was time for me [Sayonne] to expand beyond my artistry and make sure that my musical works are protected and released without limitation. As the CEO of an independent record label, I have total control over my music releases and whatever other projects I decide to take on. I do not have to answer to anyone, nor do I have to fit the typical musical mold of an executive. Again, it’s all about creative freedom. As an artist we have to be able to express ourselves freely and for me that’s what allows me to create my musical masterpieces. Was there a moment that you can recall that changed the trajectory of your life, or are you still waiting for that moment? There have been many minor moments that have changed the trajectory of my life, some for the better and some for the worse. I do not hold any regrets about the ones that led to setbacks. Those setbacks have helped me to refocus my mind as well as learning how to recharge my spirit and talents. It has helped me to be more clear about the decisions I make today while trying to build towards my future endeavors. If you could collaborate with anyone on the planet who would you pick and why? This is truly a tough question. There are so many great artists that inspire me and I would love to work with each and every one of them. I would collaborate with Sam Smith because I love his music, his vocal sound/styling and his song writing. He is bringing back music in a different light and we are similar in that way. I love R&B/Pop and soul music and I think we would make musical magic together. You have just finished participating in a benefit for the Ali Forney Center for homeless LGBTQ youth, what was your inspiration for partaking in that? Yes, It was an honor to participate in the benefit for the Ali Forney Center for homeless LGBTQ youth. I consider myself to be an ally of the LGBTQ community and was so happy to lend my voice and music to spread awareness for this cause. Life is all about love, unity and care. Due to the global pandemic the world has been forcefully pushed into a stagnant phase and some have it worse than others. I know sometimes, especially now, we complain about the minor things like toilet paper, paper towel and delayed shipments to our respective living quarters. Imagine having nothing to complain about because you don’t have the bare essentials to survive. There’s no running water, no shelter, no food, just nothing. That breaks my heart and when I got the call about this benefit there was no question about if I would participate, I knew that I had to help out and support. Aside from all of these things that you were busy doing are you working on any new projects that you would like to discuss? Yes, I am working on getting my upcoming album together and lined up for its release, hopefully, later this year. You will have to tune into my website, www.iamsayonne.com for the official album release date. I am also working on my music video for “Hot Sauce,” so I have a lot in store and I can’t wait to share my upcoming projects. My musical journey continues and you can follow along on my website [www.iamsayonne.com], instagram, facebook and twitter @iamsayonne and of course keep your eyes locked on my youtube channel @Sayonne for the amazing visuals.

The Chateau’s Isibella Karnstein “The Hourglass With Isibella” Isibella Karnstein is an amazing woman….Founder of The Chateau - Cat Girl Manor and The Chateau Magazine, Isibella now hosts an amazing new show called “The Hourglass with Isibella” available worldwide on Spotify. TheChateau.org is the first ever online magazine dedicated to catgirls and the kittenplay lifestyle. It was founded by our Chateau Madam Isibella Karnstein in 2015. Each month The Chateau brings the crème de la crème of kitten girls with photosets, reviews and lifestyle articles. Each of The Chateau’s gorgeous models has their own unique profile and photosets, and is ranked by gems that are proudly displayed on their profiles. Models can obtain gems after completing photoshoots or writing articles. The higher the gem, the more precious the model becomes. All models above Amethyst are exclusive to The Chateau, the “Precious level kittens” represent the face of The Chateau’s brand both online and at public events and The Chateau is very proud of them. The vision of The Chateau is to be a safe playground where women would be able to feel empowered, confidently express their kitten selves and lifestyles, and to be the top representation of kitten models around the world. What you have created is different from anything on the planet.... what inspired you and what drives you forward? I think ultimately it is the notion that we can try to make a difference, no matter how small. The world has been in a state of chaos since the pandemic, I see so much unhappiness within society and I think the one place I can make a difference is in trying to bring back a sense of joy and wonder to others during a difficult time. Regardless, if that is through costumes or just dressing up just to forget the world for a while. I know so many women who want to have the excuse to wear a beautiful long gown and drink tea with their friends because it makes them feel good. We all want to indulge ourselves sometimes and have different outlets for that, for some it is sports or writing, for others it is expression of self. I think I provide an outlet for women to do photography and practice their art while providing a magazine within which to showcase it. Briefly explain exactly what it is you have accomplished? I created the first online magazine dedicated to kittenplay, as well being one of the first magazines to feature women of all shapes, sizes, ages and diversity under one umbrella of glamor. This was before Victoria’s Secret was doing it (albeit under pressure), and before the amazing Savage X Fenty came on the scene with their beautiful face of representation, and even before Playboy became more inclusive (featuring their first trans model etc). I did it because I wanted to provide a space for everyone who relates to the femme aesthetic. I am happy that so many other brands have taken up that torch and are moving forwards with it. What is your ultimate goal? My goal is just to keep doing what I am doing, to push forwards as always to give others inspiration.

As a woman of substance how do you believe you empower other woman to follow their dream? I believe I empower women by just letting them be themselves. It’s literally that simple, I just provide an outlet for them to pursue their own dreams and goals, whether it is through the expression of photography, events or writing. I like that we offer multiple avenues for different women’s interests and explorations. Where do you hope to see yourself and your business in five years? Hopefully in a happier pandemic free world. Who are your greatest life influences and why? Tesla! He was the inventor of Alternating current electricity. (AC) I know it is a strange answer, but you have to understand this guy spent his entire life inventing and dreaming up creations, some people feel his life was unfulfilled as he never really succeeded publicly in his lifetime, he had many enemies and only recently has gained the recognition he deserves over 100 years later. But the important part of this story is that he never gave up. During his life he consistently kept trying which is what matters, and as a result we have so many beautiful things today thanks to him! Did I mention he also loved birds! As some of you reading will know I do too. Currently what projects are you working on for 2022 and beyond? The current (haha that’s a synchronicity from the question above) plans we are focusing on right now is predominantly the podcast. You can find it under “The Hourglass With Isibella” on Spotify. We discuss a variety of topics, everything from the Titanic, to the universe and popular streaming shows! Whatever your tastes are I’d highly recommend checking it out as I think there is something for everyone in there. We also have our annual Masquerade party in New Orleans this coming October. I think with Anne Rice’s recent departure it will be a nice way to pay homage to her memory as a writer as well as giving people a place to showcase their creativity and costumes. If you had to choose a New Year’s resolution what would it be and why? That I am going to strive to be a better person and do better for others around me. I think we have all gotten a crash course on life this year the hard way and I am going to personally dedicate a lot of time to exploration and growth. Most of all I hope I can bring unique opportunities and amazing experiences to others this coming New Year! Paradise Kitty: Visits India via State Department Request for “Let Women Do the Talking” Paradise Kitty the only recognized, all girl Guns N’ Roses tribute band per special request will be going to Indiafor “Let Women Do the Talking”, A collaboration between the embassy of the United States of America, New Delhi, Bangalore open air festival and the Wacken foundation empowering women in rock ‘n’ roll since 1990.

92

The festival features panels and performances from top women artists hailing from India, Germany and the USA. Paradise Kitty-was specially chosen by the State Department to take part in the festival. Drummer Rachael Rine and Jenna Syde lead a revolving cast of others in this wild women rocker chick band raised on the music of Guns N Roses. We shared questions and answers with Jen and Rachael regarding India and their career.

How did you come to get selected to represent in India? RACHAEL: In an effort to bring more US bands to India, The US Embassy Delhi joined forces with Bangalore Open Air Festival and The Wacken Foundation on the “Let Women Do The Talking” conference (www.LWDTT. com). This is aimed at supporting and connecting women in India who want to be in the music business. They wanted to hire a band that represents American Music and female empowerment. Apparently, our name was thrown in the hat by one of the US Music Industry veterans speaking on their panels at LWDTT. Not knowing the full scope of the conference etc., we initially declined the offer for a few months. Luckily the Embassy wouldn’t take “No” for an answer. They thought Paradise Kitty was the perfect fit and stayed on us about it. After they explained the situation, we couldn’t agree more. This is an amazing opportunity for an even more amazing cause. This is a very prestigious project and event, what can you picture this experience leaving you with? JENNA: I feel a sense of pride and empowerment in our gender and hope for the future of women in music. Rachael and I cut our teeth in a world where women in rock were few and far between. Events like this are really paving the way for a new generation of female ass kickers in a male dominated world. RACHAEL: I agree with Jenna completely. Our network of amazing women and friends around the globe is definitely going to expand from this. I am sure the experience will be as inspiring for us as it is for them. I have spent many years of my corporate career working on initiatives to empower women in the entertainment industry. The years I’ve spent playing in female bands taught me a lot about unity and common vision. I’ve said many times: “Women are so strong that when we work apart, we are destructive. When we work together, we

are absolutely unstoppable. We can change the world or at least write a few hit songs”. I am excited to bring that spirit to India and learn from the women there about their experiences and challenges so we can all grow together. After originally declining to travel to India during Covid, what made you change your mind? RACHAEL: We initially declined because we were offered a few shows in India without any context as to who or what it was about. Once we were told The US Embassy was the host and they seriously wanted us to reconsider, we knew there was more to this than just a few random shows. We all got on a call and they told us about the conference and all the amazing people involved. At that point, there was no way you could stop us from going! What are you most looking forward to? JENNA: I’m really looking forward to getting to know the other women that will be traveling with us and speaking at the conference (all of whom are power forces in the music business themselves). I’m also really looking forward to being surrounded by another culture and savoring every bit of art, music and flavor they have to offer. RACHAEL: After being cooped up for so long, this is really swinging the pendulum in the opposite direction. The entire experience is really exciting. I have never been to India and look forward to immersing in a different culture. Music is really a conduit that brings people together and I am honored to be a part of that experience What is your vision for this event, what do you hope to leave the women of India with? RACHAEL: You know that feeling of those little butterflies in your stomach when you are

really excited? I believe that dreams do come true as long as we work hard, believe in ourselves, support each other, and nurture those butterflies. I want every woman around the world to know that they are talented, loved, supported and able to make their dreams come true.

drums to veracious vocal runs and booty shaking basslines. We’re going to give them something that they’ve never seen before.

JENNA: I hope the women of India will be inspired by us to not feel intimidated picking up an instrument or microphone and let their inner musical warrior rage. This conference is such an amazing idea and I pray it will give them a way to find their footing in this business through knowledge and connections and let them know there is a plethora of other women out there that want to see them rise up and soar!

RACHAEL: For how far the world has come, we still have a long way to go for equality and creating a safe environment where everyone can thrive regardless of sex, race, religion, political affiliation, or favorite ice cream flavor etc. I think it takes a lot of small steps to close what is still a very large gap. Hopefully we can be a part of one of those small steps. Sometimes just hearing “Yes, you CAN” is enough to cause a ripple in the pond. If our time there inspires even one person (however they identify) to make a small change in the right direction, the butterfly effect begins and we did our job.

Do you think the women in India are well versed with the music of Guns N Roses? JENNA: To be honest I don’t know. I would imagine the women there that are rock fans would at least know songs like Sweet Child O’ Mine and Paradise City. I have heard India does love rock n roll so, I guess we will wait and see. RACHAEL: Guns N’ Roses has a global presence and as far as I know, India is no exception. If there are any people in the crowd not too familiar with Guns N’ Roses, I can guarantee they will still have a kick ass rock n’ roll good time either way. How do you plan to energize the fans? RACHAEL: Every night we get on stage, we give it our all and have a blast doing it. We really enjoy what we do. That energy is infectious. If you come to a Paradise Kitty show, it’s our job to make sure you leave with a huge smile and the good “feels”. JENNA: We plan to get those fans moving by putting on a show they will never forget. From back-bending guitar solos and thunderous kick

How do you feel about empowering the women of India?

JENNA: Honored! If this boisterous little band of ours can convince them and their daughters that women can do anything then we did what we went there to do. Women are strong! Women are powerful! Women are taking over!

How did you prepare for your role in “Orange is the New Black? I researched what it means to be an oxy addict as well as what it means to be in prison. I read, watched videos- anything I could get my hands on. And of course caught myself up on the show! How would you describe Tina Swope? Evil minion that you still love. Are there similarities between you and Tina? We are both tough women! She has a bit of an attitude and knows what she wants. I am not nearly as aggressive or violent as she is but I relate to her drive. What experiences where challenging, fun, and memorable while doing OITNB? Working with live rats and learning how to shiv someone (stunt coordination) in season 6 and doing a pat-down on Laura Pepron in season 7. Do you feel that that fact that you speak several languages helps you with your acting career? 100% the fact that I am bilingual has definitely opened up audition opportunities. People wouldn’t guess that I am half Latinx and speak fluent spanish- but it definitely is a plus.People are pleasantly surprised! Taking strong female roles seems to follow you around, is that on purpose? Well not really. I am a strong woman, so I think it also happens that those are the roles I am called in for. That doesn’t mean I won’t want to step into many other shoes other than “tough girl”, but hey, being type cast is not a bad thing in my opinion. What inspired you to become an actor? It was a gut instinct. I’ve always loved watching movies, and the feelings I would get. I always gravitated towards more devastating dramatic movies and the actors who inhabited those roles. Performances done by Charlize Theron in ‘Monster’ and Cate Blanchett in ‘Blue Jasmine’ are just two examples of the kind of work I fully admire and wish to portray as an actor. How do you feel about the fact that there will not be another season of “Orange is the New Black”, and do you have another project to focus on? All good things come to an end. But I am excited for what the future holds! I plan to write more of my own material. I am developing a short film I made last year into a feature. I just started my own production company called Jet Boy. I also directed my first music video for the ‘The Black Lips’ to be released in January before their album comes out. I am psyched. What do you concentrate on when your not involved with an acting project? I continue my studies- and for me that means watching as many films as I can, catching up on shows, going to see live theatre, reading plays, taking classes, reading and writing screenplays. There is always more to be done!

I understand you are involved with a screenplay that you’ve created, can you tell us the premise? It is a story about a young woman living in New York struggling with addiction and abuse. It’s a dark piece inspired by experiences I have had in my life. I am hoping to make a feature length and get it shot in a year or two. These things take time! The soundtrack of your life has just been recorded, what songs re included on it and why? I’m only gonna put one song here- and that’s because I love so many different kinds of music and would never be able to make the “right” playlist (I’m somewhat of a perfectionist). So this is the one song for now-(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction- The Rolling Stones (because in life, I don’t know if I ever will) If you could star with any actor on the planet, who would it be and why? This answer changes constantly. As of now I would say, Adam Driver or Willem Dafoe.
