RAVISHANKAR BHOOPLAPUR Chairman Gift of Life India Past Rotary District Governor 7255

Greetings General J.J. Singh. Welcome to New York! We are all very pleased you could join us. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of my fellow Rotarians, Donors, and most importantly the Volunteers for their continued dedication and service to the Gift of Life, India. You are responsible for saving the lives of the children. To Dr. Eileen Gentlecore, PDG Anthony Massineo, PDG Sammy Hsiao thank you for all that you do. I am very grateful. Happy Holidays!

Ravishankar Bhooplapur

Every big idea has a small beginning. In 1974, Rotary District 7250 brought a little 5-year old named Grace Agwaru on an intercontinental voyage from Uganda to New York. Grace suffered from a hole between the two lower chambers of her young but strong heart. On November 15, 1974 surgeons at Saint Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York successfully operated on little Grace. A big idea was born that day. The Gift of Life now includes Rotarians from all over the world, with independent chapters in countries as far away as Korea and India. Today, the Gift of Life is a worldwide Rotary International Service Program responsible for approximately 5000 heart surgeries for children from over 30 countries. The Gift of Life has gone global. Every good idea grows exponentially. In 2001, PDG of District 7255 Eileen Gentlecore had a simple conversation with a friend of hers and related the altruistic vision of the Gift of Life. Her friend, Past District Governor Ravishankar Bhooplapur, with the assistance of Past RI Director Sushil Gupta – Trustee of Rotary Foundation , Dr. Rajan Deshpande and many other devoted Rotarians, AC Peter, PDG Rajendra Rai, Rtn OP Khanna, DGE Kamlesh Raheja, PDG Sam Movva, Rtn Kamlesh Mehta took up the challenge to provide critical heart surgeries for the children of India. PDG Ravishankar Bhooplapur still serves as Honorary Chairman of Gift of Life, India today. Is it not amazing what can come of a conversation? The sole purpose of the Gift of Life, India is to secure life saving heart surgery for children in desperate need regardless of race, creed, color or country of origin. The Gift of Life, India is a not-for-profit, taxexempt corporation with no administrative costs. All of our team members work voluntarily; all of the monies are generously donated by caring donors and through the numerous matching grants disbursed by the Rotary Foundation. Gift of Life program in New York has the unique distinction of bringing children from all over the world to the New York Metro Area and providing free heart Surgeries to them. These children are housed in Ronald McDonald house which is specifically given to us for this purpose. Rotarians have significantly contributed to build the Ronald McDonald house and continue to give financial support on the local level in exchange our children are accommodated pre & post-operative their surgeries. This project is run and managed by Gift of Life 7250 Inc for accommodating all international children in NY metro area. The Gift of Life is still growing. We are reaching more children in more countries than ever before. We would like to reach still more. There is no limit to this idea as long as we remain committed to saving children’s lives.

Gary C.K. Huang President, 2014-15 T +1.847.866.3467 F +1.847.866.3390 gary.huang@rotary.org

November 2013 Dear fellow Rotarians, I am pleased to welcome you to this fundraising dinner being held in Woodbury, New York. This is a wonderful opportunity for Rotarians and friends of Rotary to come together for fellowship and inspiration. I was introduced to Rotary as a high school student. Right away, I saw it was something I wanted to be a part of. Rotary was a prestigious organization in Taiwan when I was growing up, and at first, I mostly wanted the status of being a Rotarian. But it didn’t take long for me to realize that Rotary was about much more than having lunch with important people. Through Rotary, I have made my community and the world a better place. I have been touched by the stories of those we’ve helped in countries far from my own. Rotary is something special and it is something I am proud to be a part of—not for what it gives me, but for what it lets me give to others. By putting Service Above Self, we set an example that cannot help but inspire those around us. My motto is always “be positive, be active, be a friend,” and Rotary embodies these values. In Rotary we set high goals, we work hard, and we care. In Rotary we find solutions, not excuses. Rotary is a light in our communities and a light in our hearts. It creates hope in our world and gives meaning to our lives. It fulfills a basic human desire to reach out a hand to others, to know we have made a difference. I send my best wishes for a successful year to come, and I look forward to working together as we Light Up Rotary. Yours,

Gary C.K. Huang 2014-15 President, Rotary International

Dear Fellow Rotarians, It is my pleasure to send my best wishes to you for the Fund Raiser Event for our “Gift of Life” Program to be held on 9th November 2014. I thank you for bringing me in this program “Gift of Life” which has saved many children suffering from heart ailments in all parts of the world. Thanks to your continuous support to this program.

This project is classic example how Rotary can promote peace and understanding between nations through international community service. These children cannot afford high cost of surgery and have no access to quality medical care. I compliment the Rotary Club of Gold Coast Lake Success, Rotary Club of Jericho Sunrise and Rotary Club of Hicksville South for continuously supporting this program and having taken the initiative to organize this event. I also wish to congratulate Rtn. Ravishankar Bhooplapur, the founder of “Gift of Life India” Project as with his support we have been able to save over 5000 children so far who are suffering from this congenital heart diseases.

Best wishes, Sushil Gupta, Padma Shri Trustee, The Rotary Foundation (2014-18) Director, Rotary International (2003-05) Vice Chair, Joint Committee of Partnerships (2014-15) Member, Audit Committee (2014-15) Adviser, International Assembly Committee (2014-15)

M.N VENKATACHALIAH Chief Justice of India (Retd.)

6th November, 2014

The Rotary movement amongst the finest products of the collective Conscience end imaginative concern of mankind for a better world. Of the countless significant humanitarian programs the Rotary has supported the world over for a just and caring lnternational society, the GIFT OF LIFE was a most touching gesture and an expression of an impersonal love for mankind. As witness to the emotionally elevating experience I felt proud of my own Paul Harris Fellowship. Mr. Ravi Bhooplapur and his team which nurtured this beautiful expression of the universal man’s concern for humanity have indeed, grown two blades of grass where one grew and deserve the better of mankind.
