PRE-MEDICAL PROGRAM

This rewarding program provides 4 trimesters of focused pre-medical studies to fully prepare students for their medical studies at Xavier University School of Medicine. High school graduates enrolled in this program will be prepared for residency by age 23. Most of our 5 ½ year program students save time by not having to secure their position as a medical student with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

PRE-MEDICAL PROGRAM

DURATION: 60 WEEKS

CREDIT HOURS: 90

All students successfully completing the XUSOM Pre-Med program automatically progress into the 4-year M.D. program.

4-YEAR M.D. PROGRAM

Xavier University School of Medicine’s accelerated program is comprised of four academic years of medical education, without compromising the total number of credited hours or clinical exposure. The curriculum has sufficient flexibility for students to do extensive research, pursue advanced degrees, and explore other avenues of professional growth.

MD/MSc DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM

All students accepted to the Medical Doctor (MD) program at Xavier will also be accepted into our optional Master of Medical Science-Biotechnology (MD/MSc). Our dual degree program was designed with our students in mind to earn a Masters degree alongside their MD degree. Students will complete their 2 years of Basic Science curriculum in Aruba (20 credits will count towards the MSc Degree), optional 1 year of research and thesis at the Blumberg Institute in Pennsylvania (14 credits towards MSc degree), and 2 years of Clinical Medicine at our hospitals throughout the United States. Students who do not complete the 1 year of research at the Blumberg Institute will not be eligible for an MSc degree.

POST DOCTORATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

This is a joint program for all graduates of Xavier, with the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) and the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute. This one year program allows graduates a unique opportunity to complete the majority of the classroom hours at Xavier while obtaining hands on research experience at the Blumberg Institute, which is the nation’s leading nonprofit research organization dedicated to hepatitis B and liver cancer. This program provides a supervised mentored research environment, and hands on training in state-of-the-art molecular, genomic, proteomic, cellular and imaging techniques. This rigorous education program trains future laboratory professionals to undertake biomedical research in academic research laboratories or biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
