Mock Ups
Mock up 3 In this mock up, I have shown a layout of 4 photographs that all show a narrative in a zig zag order. I have then written over the photograph with timings and phrases that link to the idea of time and hurrying to get somewhere due to a specific time. I have written over the work to make it seem more personal towards me so that the audience can find links between myself and the work that I have produced.
I also found that I wanted to use different manual edits than writing as the writing proved to be messy and was hard to show as some of the words would not show up against the dark backgrounds. I am going to change my manual edits and make them so that the manual edits are done on each individual photograph, so that the individual photographs have a clearer link to the whole composition.
I felt that the writing did not work as it made the composition seem messy and was too much for the audience to look at, so they may find it difficult to focus onto the main aspect of the composition. The layout I felt also needed to be changed as I was showing a narrative, but I didn’t want it to be clear, so I showed it in a zig zag formation. I am going to change this as this was not clear to the audience, which I found out when I asked some of my friends what they thought about my ideas.
In this first mock up shown above, I have layed out 5 photographs on black card in a way that shows a narrative of a journey on how the model has gone somewhere. I have layed out the photographs landscape, even though some of the photographs are portrait as I felt that this made the composition more aesthetically pleasing and causes the audience to look more into the photograph as the portrait shown as landscape acts as an obscure aspect to the photograph.
I have used black card as a base as I felt that it created a stronger piece. However, I felt that this mock up did not work as the photographs looked as if they had been placed wrong and the black card dulled down the photograph. I felt that the piece was not interesting to look at and did not show human existence in a strong way.
Mock Up 1 and 2 In my second mock up, I have changed the background so that there is white writing that links to my idea of showing time in a composition. I have written numbers around the black card which all link to the idea of showing time through my composition. In the black space at the end, I have written about the photographs and shown the details of the photographs to give the audience more of an insight to the composition. I decided that this idea did not work as the white did not stand out enough against the black and the piece looked too basic. I want to create a piece that stands out to the audience and that creates a clear idea of human existence and how time is involved in our existence.
In this mock up I have decided to show a series of photographs that show the day in the life of human existence. i have shown a naturalistic setting to link back to the idea that this happens in every day life and that this is a normal event in human existence. i have developed my idea from using a black backboard to using small black pieces of card over the bottom of a photograph. across these i am going to write the estimated time to do somethinjg and the actual time to do something, so that i can link my work back to vito acconci the photographer who has inspired me to use this layout. i am going to present the piece in a frame with a white background so that the photographs become more visible and so that the audiences focus is not taken towards the dark back setting. i am going to use each of these black boxes to help express the narrative of the composition, so that the audience are not completely lost when they look at the composition.

I have purposefully made the black boxes uneven to represent the idea of a homely environment and the naturalistic setting. I felt that this would create a better atmosphere to the composition and make the piece look more personal. The manual edits I am hoping to use will be stitching, cutting out pieces of newspaper, writing on tea bags, writing with bleach and cutting out digital clock times to link with the modern use of technology. To write over the black boxes, I found that white pens were too risky and would often pour out too much ink, which ruined my work. To fix this, I have written on tracing paper and stuck it over the black paper, this gives an interesting aspect to the composition and is easily read by the audience.
I have chosen to use this layout for my final piece as I feel it works really well and allows me to show each entire individual photographs. I feel that this layout will enable me to express the idea of time through my work and allows me to show human existence as well. I am going to show 5 different pieces in this layout, however will show 5 different settings, so that I can vary my work and show how there are different forms of human existence and how time affects us differently.
In this mock up, i have developed the layout of my piece onto a white background to look more aesthetically pleasing to the audience. I have taken away the idea of having the black box including text at the bottom of each photograph as i found that parts of the photograph which i deemed to be very important would be cut off by the black text box. to develop this idea i have placed the black text box’s in the white space next to the photographs. so that i can still link time to the individual photographs, i am going to manually edit each individual photograph with the time over a particular area of the picture. this is so that it is still clear that the images link to time and so that i can express the significance behind time and human existnce.
