Possible Ideas Xuxa Kidd
Ed Ruscha in this picture shows himself holding out the front cover of a book. In the photograph we can see both the hand and the object being shown. He has portrayed this image so that it is just one big image in the centre of a page. I liked this as I felt that it makes the composition seem much more powerful and drives the audience into searching into the depths of the photograph. In my own photograph, I have shown my own hand holding a phone, which shows the scene in-front of the phone. There is a symbolic idea behind this photograph as I am trying to portray the idea that social media is seen as just as important as human existence. To do this I have shown a smart phone showing the human existence, as I felt that this was a great way in which I could portray the message of the stereotypical dependence on smart phones in our modern world. I feel that by using just one big image on a plain white background, I can emphasize the message behind the photograph and make the audience look into more depth of the photograph. Although I may incorporate different possible ideas together in order to create a new one. Below I have shown another example of how I could lay out my work. By placing two images together, it may entice the audience more as they will have more to look at and so more to think about. It creates a more detailed composition and creates more meaning.
this possible idea layout has been inspired from Michael Snow’s ‘Press’. i liked this layout as i felt that it was a good way in which to portray my images. it can easily show all of the images that link together and allows me to show a narrative between each different set of photographs. this layout allows me to show a variety of photographs from my different photoshoots and allows me to convey different messages through each photograph, or each set of photographs. i have shown a variety between colour photographs and black and white photographs as i wanted to show differentiation and i wanted to be able to show the idea of how colour and the absence of colour can create such a strong composition when placed next to each other.

This idea has been inspired from Michael Heizer. I liked this layout as it allows me to show continuity and shows a cycle in human existence. I have chosen to show just 3 images throughout this idea as I felt that this creates a stronger message as the audience would not get confused when looking at each individual photograph. I would have to be careful with this idea as I would have to make sure that it looks aesthetically pleasing for the audience.

This possible idea has been inspired from Alighiero Boetti. I liked his simple layout idea and thought that having a small series of photographs really worked well. To make mine slightly different from his one, I have decided to show an array of words across my piece. I felt that this would help me to create a stronger message and would make it much easier for the audience to be able to link their thoughts and ideas to the photographs. The use of black and white images allows me to create a more emotional composition by representing an absence in the photograph, through the absence of colour.
This possible idea has been inspired from Dennis Oppenheim. The piece displayed stage one and stage two of a movement. I was inspired by this piece as I felt that this was a great simple way to portray human existence. I can show the stages between different events involving human existence which can help me to convey different ideas in which to portray different aspects of human existence.
i have shown a model reaching out to take a spoonful of a yoghurt, while showing them in the naturalistic setting of their kitchen. this photograph has been outlines by a black boarder, which i thought helped to show differentiation between the photographs so that they werent seen as too similar. the black boarder attracts attention to the photograph and makes it clear that the photograph is the first photograph that the audience should be looking at, as the composition is part of a sequence.
The second photograph shows the next step. We can see the model with the spoonful of yoghurt in her mouth. I have done this to show a clear follow on from the previous photograph shown. This photograph has been zoomed in so that the only aspect that we can focus on is the literal;l meaning behind the photograph, that the model is eating. The difference between the two photographs shows the simplicity and detail. The first photograph has props placed around the model to suggest a natural environment, whereas the second photograph shows a simple white background. This creates an equal importance of the photographs as the first stands out with the black border, whereas the second stands out as there is a plain background to emphasize the existence of the model.
This idea is following on from the previous page. I have shown the same layout with different photographs and have experimented with the layout by using different colours to see if colour works best with the layout, or whether a black and white theme works better. I have concluded that both work very well in being powerful for the audience and they both show two stages of a sequence. The black and white effect has worked really well as the photographs compliment the background of the layout.
This composition idea shows to be slightly different from the previous page as the stages shown is just one simple movement. There is little change between the photographs, other than the movement of the head. This shows a simplicity in the photograph and creates a familiar atmosphere towards the composition. The idea of creating a coloured border to emphasise the first image does not work as well on this idea as the white does not stand out as much against the black and white image. However, having the whole composition in black and white does prove to be very effective and powerful, even with the absence of colour.
By showing a composition portraying two stages to an event, Dennis Oppenheim can portray the idea of a process and show how events happen. He is a good example to use when studying human existence as he shows the events that happen due to human existence and shows how different events affects human existence. I like how his work can portray a message of process and outcome which can show an idea of existence through different aspects, such as how we exist and how the world exists around us.
