Our environmental cycle – or why sustainability is more than just a word for us.

Wood-based material production and further processing To continually improve our environmental performance in the production process, we are opting for internationally certified energy and environmental management systems in accordance with ISO 50001, ISO 14001 and EMAS.

Consumer / Product EPDs We provide full transparency with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). They provide professionals with important information on environmental and health aspects, and are also available to interested end-users – for each of our base products.

Wood-based materials contribute to climate protection ... ...and you can now get an idea of how exactly they do it. Because for selected products in this brochure, we disclose information on their environmental performance:

Recycling Recycled wood, consisting of waste wood from disposed goods and those not fit for sale, is prepared and used for chipboard production.

Product structure (Example: Eurodekor melamine-resin-coated chipboard)

– 13.3 kg CO₂ / m2

Sawmill 800,000 cubic metres of spruce and pine logs from sustainable forests are felled every year at our sawmill in Brilon. Sawmill byproducts are directly processed further in the wood-based materials production.

85 % materials from renewable resources 15 % materials from fossil resources 27 % recycled material 32 % by-products from the sawmill industry 41 % Fresh resources

*) externally verified calculation according to EN 15804, see EPD

Sustainable forestry We deal responsibly with forests and the environment and are PEFC™ and FSC® certified. Depending on availability, certified sales according to the respective standards are possible. In accordance with the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR), we only procure wood for the respective plant from controlled or certified suppliers in the region.

**) unverified calculation according to own method,

Carbon footprint* The CO₂ footprint can be used to measure the size of the impact a product has on the climate. For coated chipboard it is small, even below zero. Why? Wood has absorbed more CO₂ during its growth than is emitted during transport and the manufacturing processes. Contribution to the bioeconomy** Resources need different amounts of time to regenerate. Wood grows in a few decades, while fossil fuels need millions of years to form. Within this indicator, the product components are compared with: How much material was obtained from renewable raw materials and, how much from fossil fuels? Contribution to the recycling economy** In order to conserve natural resources, we need to make the best use of existing materials. This indicator shows how well this can be done in practice. The coated chipboard is made up of more than 50 % recycled material or recycled byproducts from other industries.

Renewable energy We turn biogenic fuels, which can no longer be used, into heat and green electricity in our own biomass power plants.

structure and may vary slightly depending on the thickness and the chosen coating

Raw thin boards Thin boards are pressed from 2.1 to 8.0 mm raw, 3-layer fine chipboard with a high content of fresh wood at a normal or high density. They have an even, light and fine surface. Thin boards are very good for extra thin and light constructions and are ideal for coating with a wide range of surface finish materials like paint, finish foils, melamine, micro-laminates or veneer.

Thin technical and customised products Thin technical products are produced and packed for special product or individual customer requirements. Customised products, such as products with aluminium-coated functional cover layers, are optimally manufactured and packaged along the full value-added process. In this case, particular emphasis is placed on process-related waste minimisation, maximum utilisation of the customer’s production capacities and packaging and freight space-optimised dispatch.

Special coating vapour barrier aluminium – MetPET The wide range of finishing options at the Wörgl plant provide the ideal basis for customised and highly technically orientated special coatings based on numerous rawboard formulas.

Good to know:   Thin-plate composite elements can be developed and industrially manufactured according to defined requirements  Examples: Thin chipboards with vapour barrier aluminium coating and up to 20 µ thick aluminium Thin chipboards with special metallised polyethylene films (MetPET) with favourable thermal insulation value effects

3.5

Thin MDF HD support edging On honeycomb or worktops, the Thin MDF E1E05 TSCA SE support edging serves as technical edging for problem- free decor edging, especially with thin cover layers. This forms a similarly stable edging base at the cutting edge the same as conventional wood-based materials and creates a homogeneous surface on the gable-end for optimum edging quality. This detailed solution creates a significant difference in edge quality and allows the use of lightweight and thus resource-saving core materials.

Support edging technology in lightweight construction Simple edging of lightweight boards The support edging is sanded on both sides and therefore has excellent gluing properties to the element. When processing lightweight boards, this property is what makes optimum decorative edging possible in the first place. The support edging is applied into the rebated cover layers or bluntly or directly, like decorative edging. In this way, it strengthens the surface layers of the lightweight boards in the margin area and creates an all-round even surface. This ensures smooth machine processing, even for frameless lightweight boards with

Postforming worktops

surface layers of less than 8.0 mm, and also increases process efficiency. The support edging serves as technical decorative edging, especially for thin cover layers. Advantages:   Homogeneous surface on the gable-end for optimum edging quality   Higher impact resistance at the edging  Technical edge closure made of wood-based material

Eurolight lightweight board with support edging

High-quality profiling for worktops The Thin MDF E1E05 TSCA SE support edging offers the perfect solution for high-quality profiling on all worktops or wrapped shelves with standard coating profiles:

The support edging is applied like decorative edging as a base on the front of the worktops or shelves to be wrapped. This optimises the surface smoothness during coating and the impact resistance at the edging.
