El municipio de Yaiza celebra con ilusión y devoción sus fiestas patronales

Vecinos de las localidades de Playa Blanca, Femés y Las Breñas celebraron durante los meses de junio y julio sus fiestas patronales con gran ilusión y devoción, dejando patente con la alta participación que había muchas ganas de reencontrarse para disfrutar en comunidad tras los dos años en blanco por la pandemia del covid y honrar a sus santos como merece la ocasión, peregrinando por las calles, e incluso por el mar en el caso de la Virgen del Carmen, en Playa Blanca, y regalándoles sentidas ofrendas en forma de música y baile por parrandas y agrupaciones del municipio.

Las Breñas fue la primera en venerar a San Luis Gonzaga, a finales del mes de junio, y lo hizo también con el encuentro de música tradicional dedicado a ‘Víctor Fernández Gopar’, participado por las agrupaciones folklóricas Rubicón y Gaida, con otro de pop-rock y orquestas, además de la concurrida y aplaudida actuación del El Junco & Alcalá, entre otras actividades.

Femés por su parte estrenó el mes de julio honrando a San Marcial de Rubicón, patrono también de Lanzarote y Canarias, demostrando su grandeza con la visita del representante de la Santa Sede en España, Monseñor

The municipality of Yaiza celebrates its patron saint celebrations with enthusiasm and devotion

Residents of the towns of Playa Blanca, Femés and Las Breñas celebrated their patron saint festivities in June and July with great enthusiasm and devotion, with the high turnout making it clear that people were eager to meet up again to enjoy their community after the two years chalked off due to the COVID pandemic. Thus, they honoured their saints as best fits the occasion, making a pilgrimage through the streets, and even in the sea in the case of the Virgen del Carmen (Our lady of Mount Carmel), and bestowing heartfelt offerings upon them in the form of music and dance by bands and groups from the municipality.

Las Breñas was the first to venerate San Luis Gonzaga, at the end of June, and it also celebrated with the traditional music meet dedicated to Víctor Fernández Gopar. This featured the folk groups Rubicón and Gaida, along with a pop-rock band and orchestras, as well as the popular and lauded performance by El Junco & Alcalá, besides other activities.

Femés opened the month of July by honouring San Marcial de Rubicón, the patron saint of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, showcasing its magnanimity with the visit of the representative of the Holy See in Spain, The Most Reverend Bernardi-

La música también fue protagonista con el Encuentro de Solistas, en el que la Parranda Janubio acompañó las voces de Araceli, Nayara, Abenaguara, Izan y Diego, el encuentro de pop-rock y orquestas o el aclamado concierto de Café Quijano, encargado de cerrar los festejos.

En Playa Blanca los actos religiosos en honor a la Virgen del Carmen fueron protagonistas indiscutibles, pero vecinos y visitantes disfrutaron también de destacadas actuaciones de música popular o tributos a El Canto del Loco y Selena o con eventos deportivos como la Regata de barquillos, el Encuentro de Baloncesto 3x3 del Club Tinyala, la Travesía a Nado Playas de Papagayo o el Fajín de Lucha Canaria de Lanzarote.

Además, diferentes Dj y bandas de las islas amenizaron las noches de verbena en las tres localidades para el goce de los más jóvenes, y el humor corrió a cargo de los Mayores de Yaiza y su siempre aclamado Play Back. to Cleopas Auza, who presided over the solemn mass and subsequent procession. To top it off, various DJs and bands from the islands entertained the youngsters at the three placed, and there was a touch of humour from the Mayores de Yaiza (seniors) and their always acclaimed song miming.

Playa Blanca honours the town’s seafaring tradition through art

Pescadores sureños y familiares vivieron con emoción el acto de descubrimiento de la escultura de homenaje a la tradición marinera de Playa Blanca, el pasado domingo 17 de julio, organizado por el Ayuntamiento de Yaiza y materializado en la obra de la artista local Cintia Machín. Instalada en el centro del pueblo, es la expresión más visible del reconocimiento y gratitud de una sociedad que valora todo el sacrificio y esfuerzo que permitió el desarrollo de Playa Blanca preservando su identidad. Al acto asistieron veteranos pescadores sureños como Blas Francisco Martín y Benigno Caraballo, que participaron del momento de revelación del conjunto escultórico formado por la figura modelada por Cintia Machín y un viejo barquillo restaurado por el carpintero Luis Quintana.

El presidente de la Cofradía de Pescadores de Playa Blanca, Cristo Caraballo, exteriorizó su emoción y felicidad diciendo que “es un homenaje que se merece Playa Blanca y todos los marineros y sus familias que hoy ven reconocido su trabajo”.

La actividad pesquera es la supervivencia directa para unas treinta familias de Playa Blanca y un valor añadido para el sector de la restauración y el turismo.

Fishermen from the south of the island and their families passionately enjoyed the unveiling of the sculpture in tribute to Playa Blanca’s seafaring tradition on Sunday 17 July, held by the Yaiza Council and materialised in the work of the local artist Cintia Machín. This work, installed in the centre of the town, is the most visible expression of the acknowledgement and gratitude of a society that values all the sacrifice and effort that enable the development of Playa Blanca while preserving its identity.

The event was attended by veteran fishermen from the south of the island such as Blas Francisco Martín and Benigno Caraballo, who participated in the unveiling of the sculptural work made up of the figure modelled by Cintia Machín and an old boat restored by carpenter Luis Quintana.

The president of the Playa Blanca Fishing Guild, Cristo Caraballo, expressed his emotion and happiness, stating that “it is an honour that Playa Blanca and all the sailors and their families deserve, who today see their work acknowledged.”

Fishing activity directly provides a living for around thirty families in Playa Blanca and brings added value for the restaurant and tourism sector.
