Uga vive con entusiasmo sus fiestas de San Isidro

Tradición, ambiente festivo y mucha devoción por San Isidro fueron los ingredientes de las fiestas celebradas en Uga a mediados del pasado mayo en honor a su patrón, festividades que arranca- ron con un emotivo pregón a cargo del sector camellar en el recién estrenado Centro de Interpretación del Camello que exaltó la figura de este noble animal y su destacado papel en el pasado y presente de la Isla. Vecinos y vecinas disfrutaron de una semana cargada de actividad y diversión con talleres, juegos, concursos, playbacks y mucha música, recorriendo sus calles empapados del ambiente festivo en la romería y con mayor sobriedad en la procesión, ambas muy participadas.

Carlos Baute puso el broche llenando la carpa de sabor latino, en un concierto que contó también con los artistas locales Alexia, Elieser y Verónica Lucía.

Enthusiastic celebrations in Uga for the San Isidro festivities

The festivities celebrated in Uga last May in honour of its patron saint were all about tradition, festive atmosphere and plenty of devotion to San Isidro. The festivities kicked off with a moving proclamation by the camel sector in the recently opened Camel Visitor Centre, which extolled the figure of this noble animal and its important role in the past and present of the island. Residents were able to enjoy a week packed with activity and fun with workshops, games, competitions, song miming and plenty of music, walking through the streets, soaking up the festive atmosphere in the pilgrimage and with greater sobriety in the procession, both of which attracted a large number of people.

Carlos Baute brought the event to a close by filling the marquee with Latin flavour, in a concert that also featured local artists Alexia, Elieser and Verónica Lucía.

Muestra de Ganado de Uga

Gran ambiente en la XIV Muestra de Ganado de Uga celebrada del 21 al 23 de abril con la exhibición de 400 animales, con premios a los mejores ejemplares, además de un Encuentro de Ganaderos de Lanzarote y Fuerteventura, un coloquio, talleres lúdicos, catas de quesos, muestras de ordeño tradicional y un sinfín de actividades paralelas.

Uga Cattle Show

It was a very lively atmosphere at the 14th Uga Cattle Show held from 21 to 23 April and featuring an exhibition of 400 animals. There were prizes for the best specimens, as well as a gathering of farmers from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, a seminar, fun workshops, cheese tastings, traditional milking demonstrations and a whole host of other accompanying activities.

Abre la Escuela Infantil en Playa Blanca

Tras la cesión a la Consejería de Educación del Gobierno de Canarias de la guardería de Playa Blanca, las instalaciones abrirán el próximo curso como Escuela Infantil, ofertando plazas a niños y niñas de 2 a 3 años de edad. El Ayuntamiento de Yaiza aboga por dar cobertura también a corto plazo a recién nacidos.

Playa Blanca Nursery School opens

Following the transfer of the Playa Blanca nursery to the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Education, the facilities will open for the upcoming school year as a nursery school, offering places for children from 2 to 3 years of age. The municipality of Yaiza is also planning to provide coverage for new-borns in the short term.

Residents and lawyers gathered on 13 May in Playa Blanca to hear presentations by six experts on banking products, mortgages and evictions on the occasion of the 2nd Housing Conference organised by the Plataforma Afectados por la Hipoteca (AHINOR), which is available in Yaiza by appointment on 648 088 751.

Vecinos y abogados se reunieron el pasado 13 de mayo en Playa Blanca para atender las exposiciones de seis expertos sobre productos bancarios, hipotecas y desahucios con motivo de la II Jornada de Viviendas organizada por la Plataforma Afectados por la Hipoteca (AHINOR), que atiende en Yaiza con cita previa en el 648 088 751.

I Lanzarote Esports Competition

Los mejores ‘gamers’ de la isla se dieron cita el 22 y 23 de abril en la I Lanzarote Esports Competition, celebrada en Arrecife y en la que el dúo sureño ‘Los Magio’ se proclamó vencedor del torneo de League of Legends. También de Yaiza destacaron Inar Silva en Super Smash Bros Ultimate y Erick Tamallo en Clash Royale, que llegaron a la final y semifinal, respectivamente.

1st Lanzarote Esports Competition

The island’s best gamers came together on 22 and 23 April at the 1st Lanzarote Esports Competition, held in Arrecife, where the southern duo ‘Los Magio’ emerged as winners of the League of Legends tournament. Other competitors from Yaiza included Inar Silva in Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Erick Tamallo in Clash Royale, who reached the final and semi-final, respectively.

Espacio Participativo Joven

Ciento cincuenta estudiantes de 3º de la ESO del IES Yaiza y del CEO Playa Blanca disfrutaron de talleres de fotografía, rap, percusión, grafiti y skate en la Plaza de la Alameda de Yaiza y su entorno como colofón a un nuevo ciclo del Espacio Participativo Joven, iniciativa a través de la cual exponen inquietudes o reivindican y proponen iniciativas como herramienta de ayuda a la convivencia y mejoras de su municipio.

Limpieza con voluntarios

Un grupo de 42 voluntarios liberaron de plásticos y otros residuos Playa Flamingo y su fondo marino en la jornada medioambiental celebrada el pasado 15 de abril como parte de las acciones periódicas organizadas en distintos puntos del litoral sureño por Pura Vida y Kayak Lanzarote con el apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Yaiza.

Young People’s Participatory Space

One hundred and fifty students in the 3rd year of secondary education at IES Yaiza and CEO Playa Blanca took part in photography, rap, percussion, graffiti and skateboarding workshops in the Plaza de la Alameda in Yaiza and its surroundings to round off a new cycle of the Espacio Participativo Joven. This represents an initiative through which they express their concerns and propose initiatives as a tool to help them get along with others and improve their municipality.

Reconocimiento a Protección Civil Yaiza

El Ayuntamiento de Yaiza hizo entrega a cada miembro de Protección Civil de un recordatorio de la distinción ‘Medalla de Oro’ del municipio otorgada en 2021 a la Agrupación con motivo del excepcional comportamiento y la labor desinteresada realizada durante la emergencia sanitaria provocada por el covid.

Cleaning with volunteers

A group of 42 volunteers cleared Playa Flamingo and its seabed of plastics and other waste during the environmental day held on 15 April as part of the programme of regular actions organised by Pura Vida and Kayak Lanzarote with the support of Yaiza Council at different points along the southern coastline.

La playa del pueblo de Playa Blanca y la Marina de Puerto Calero podrán seguir luciendo sus banderas azules este 2023 al revalidar estos galardones que acreditan la excelencia en la calidad de sus aguas y de los servicios complementarios que ofrecen, además de su compromiso ambiental.

Blue Flag

The Playa Blanca town beach and the Puerto Calero Marina will be able to continue to display their blue flags in 2023, after having retained these awards which accredit the excellence in the quality of their waters and the complementary services they offer, as well as their environmental commitment.

Recognition of Yaiza Civil Protection

Yaiza Council presented each member of the Civil Protection with a reminder of the municipality’s ‘Gold Medal’ distinction awarded in 2021 to the group for the exceptional behaviour and selfless work undertaken during the health emergency caused by COVID.
