Yaiza festeja el título de ‘Ciudad Histórica’

Con cierto retraso debido a la pandemia, ya que en el momento en que se otorgó el título de ‘Ciudad Histórica’ a Yaiza (2 de abril de 2020) estábamos en pleno confinamiento, este pasado 11 de septiembre se iniciaron los actos conmemorativos organizados por el Ayuntamiento sureño para festejar este destacado y merecido título.

Un acto solemne y cultural, poniendo en valor sus tesoros patrimoniales y aderezado con la actuación musical de Los Gofiones, dio el pistoletazo de salida a las celebraciones. Desde entonces, los actos se han sucedido con destacados homenajes a personas o colectivos que han contribuido a la historia del municipio, como la figura del camello y el sector camellar de Uga, por su papel trascendental; la Agrupación de Protección Civil Yaiza, condecorada con la Medalla de Oro por su trabajo antes y durante la pandemia; y la empresa Naviera Armas, que ha sido distinguida por sus 80 años de actividad rotulando con su nombre la plazoleta de El Rincón de Yaiza, situada en las proximidades de la casa familiar de su fundador, Antonio Armas Curbelo, nacido en Yaiza en 1899.

Además, con motivo del Día Mundial del Turismo y su destacado papel en el municipio, Playa Blanca acogió una preciosa actuación musical a orillas del mar de la mano de la Orquesta Clásica de Lanzarote y la soprano Judith Pezoa.

Yaiza celebrates its title of ‘Historic City’

With some delay due to the pandemic –since Yaiza was granted the title of ‘Historic City’ (April 2, 2020) in the midst of lockdown– on September 11, the celebration of this outstanding and deserved title began with commemorative events held by the southern Council.

A commemorative and cultural ceremony, highlighting its patrimonial treasures and embellished with the musical performance of the Gofiones, kicked off the celebrations. Since then, events have taken place including outstanding tributes to people or collectives who have contributed to the history of the municipality, such as the figure of the camel and Uga’s camel sector, for their inspirational role; the Yaiza Civil Protection Group, awarded the Gold Medal for its work before and during the pandemic; and the company Naviera Armas, which has been acknowledged for its 80 years of activity by giving its name to the square El Rincón de Yaiza, located in the vicinity of the family house of its founder, Antonio Armas Curbelo, born in Yaiza in 1899.

On the occasion of World Tourism Day and for its outstanding role in the municipality, Playa Blanca hosted a beautiful musical performance on the seashore by the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote and the soprano Judith Pezoa.

Yaiza se vuelca con La Palma

Al igual que otros municipios o islas, Yaiza también ha salido al rescate de los vecinos y vecinas de La Palma tras la erupción volcánica que lleva ya más de una semana activa en la isla y que mantiene a canarios y no canarios con el corazón en un puño.

Con el inicio del nuevo curso escolar, abría por primera vez sus puertas el Centro de Educación Obligatoria de Playa Blanca, una histórica demanda de la comunidad educativa sureña que al fin ha visto la luz. El nuevo centro, que acoge actualmente a cerca de 430 estudiantes aunque tiene capacidad para unos 700, cuenta con 25 aulas y

The Playa Blanca Compulsory Education Centre was inaugurated at the start of the new school year, after historic demand from the southern educational community that has finally come to fruition.

The new centre, which currently holds around 430 students but has a capacity for about 700, hosts 25 classrooms and is equipped with the likes of a laboratory, music room, library, sports centre, changing rooms, gym, cafeteria, recreation areas and está dotado de laboratorio, aula de música, biblioteca, polideportivo, vestuarios, gimnasio, cafetería, zonas de recreo y área administrativa, entre otros espacios.
