Gilder Boathouse
The Gilder Boathouse was dedicated on Oct. 20, 2000 in honor of Richard Gilder ’25, Richard Gilder ’54 and Virginia A. Gilder ’79. The project marked the culmination of a $10 million fundraising effort by the Yale rowing alumni. It is a six-bay, 22,400 square foot building that has the capacity to store 56 eights, 7 fours, 14 pairs and 7 singles. The 11,000 square foot (1/4 acre) ramp and dock can accommodate up to five eights when launching or landing. The upper level includes team lockers, a visiting team room, coach’s offices, laundry and a large viewing room with a fireplace and kitchen. The viewing room sits directly on the finish line of Yale’s 2,000-meter race course. This entire level is also wired for audio and video, which allows both athletes and spectators to take full advantage of the unique location by providing live race broadcasting at home regattas.
