Siba Haykal, MD, PhD, FRCSC, FACS, is Section Chief of Reconstructive Oncology for the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Department of Surgery. She cares for patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven. Dr. Haykal is an acclaimed specialist in microsurgical reconstruction and has research interests in breast reconstructive surgery and vascularized composite allotransplantation. She received her medical degree from the University of Ottawa, did residency training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto, and a microsurgery fellowship at the Albany Medical Centre in New York. During her residency, she completed a PhD in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. She worked at the Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network and Sinai Health in Toronto for several years prior to being recruited to Yale as an Associate Professor.

Dr. Haykal has years of experience delivering care for patients with breast cancer. She specializes in autologousbased reconstruction (DIEP, PAP, SGAP, TUG) and o ers immediate lymphatic reconstruction following lymph node dissection. She has extensive experience in treating lymphedema and performs lymphovenous bypass and lymph node transplantation. She also o ers microsurgical treatment for skin cancers, head & neck cancers, and sarcomas.
Dr. Haykal is the recipient of many awards for her leadership including the American Society for Reconstruction Microsurgery – Women in Microsurgery Travel Scholarship and the Hugh G. omson Humanitarian Award. She is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications focusing on breast reconstruction, cancer reconstruction, microsurgery, tissue engineering, and tissue repair.
