wendy sharp violin
Wendy Sharp, violin and chamber music, performs frequently as a recitalist and a chamber musician. In demand as a teacher and chamber music coach, she is on the faculties of the Yale School of Music and California Summer Music. For nearly a decade, Ms. Sharp was the first violinist of the Franciscan String Quartet. As a member of the quartet, she toured the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan, and was honored with many awards including first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Press and City of Evian Prizes at the Evian International String Quartet Competition.
A native of the San Francisco Bay area, she attended Yale University, graduating summa cum laude with distinction in music, and received her Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Ms. Sharp has served on the faculties of Mannes College, Dartmouth College, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Choate Rosemary Hall, and has participated in the Aspen, Tanglewood, Chamber Music West, Norfolk, Aldeburgh, and Music Academy of the West festivals. Currently serving as the director of chamber music and a member of the violin faculty, Ms. Sharp has been a member of the Yale School of Music faculty since 1995. Ms. Sharp lives with her husband and their two children in North Haven, Connecticut.

Pianist Julie Nishimura celebrates 21 years at the University of Delaware as faculty accompanist for the Department of Music, where she also teaches the accompanying/ chamber music and sight-reading classes. A much sought-after collaborative artist, she has performed on the chamber music series of Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Delaware Symphony, and has been a guest artist at over 30 college campuses. Julie is a perennial favorite at the Delaware Chamber Music Festival, California Summer Music, and Strings International Music Festival, where she has given recitals with Hai-Ye Ni, Carrie Dennis, Harold Robinson, Choong-Jin Chang, Rachel Ku, and John Koen. As co-artistic directors of Wilmington-based Distant Voices Touring Theatre, she and her husband, writer/ director/acting teacher Danny Peak, are currently touring two documentary theatrical pieces with piano: Distant Voices (based on her father’s WWII Japanese American internment camp diary) and September Echoes, chronicling the events of and following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Highlights of the 2009-10 season include recording solo piano works by Stephen Holochwost for Albany Records, vocal music of African-American women composers with soprano Marie Robinson, horn and piano works by Paul Basler with hornist Cynthia Carr, and performing as guest artist on several college campuses including Yale University, Ball State University, and New York University. A native of San Francisco, Julie began her piano studies at the age of seven with Alla Sviridoff. Subsequent studies were at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Paul Hersh, the New England Conservatory of Music with Leonard Shure, and the Longy School of Music with Victor Rosenbaum.

November 18 baroque chamber orchestra 8 pm, Morse Recital Hall, Free Baroque dance suites by Bach, Rameau, and others, performed by the students in Robert Mealy’s class in period performance using Yale’s own set of baroque bows.
November 19 new music new haven 8 pm, Morse Recital Hall, Free Featuring faculty composer Jack Vees and his piece Party Talk. The program also includes music by Chris Cerrone, Jordan Kuspa, Adrian Knight, and Feinan Wang.
November 20 yale-harvard glee club concert 8 pm, Woolsey Hall, Free The 110th Annual Joint Glee Club Concert. Featuring choral works by Victoria, Sweelinck, Barber, Thompson, and two world premieres, along with ever-popular folk songs, spirituals, and college songs.
