DISCOVER Next Horizon The Ténéré can trace its roots back to the launch of XT500 enduro-adventure bike in 1976. With its strong torque and compact chassis, this versatile single cylinder 4-stroke became an instant success. In many countries throughout Europe the XT500 was Yamaha’s best-selling model during the late 1970s – with over 60,000 sold in France alone during its 14-year production run. Its go-anywhere ability, rugged design and outstanding reliability opened up a new

world of adventure to many motorcycle riders – and these same qualities made it the ideal choice for competitors in the first Paris-Dakar Rally, which was won by Frenchman Cyril Neveu on a Yamaha XT500. Quickly establishing a reputation as the toughest desert rally bike, the XT500 became the default model for adventure seeking riders and rally racers alike, and today it is considered to be one of the most significant and iconic motorcycles of the

late 20th century, with active owners clubs throughout the world. By the end of the 1970s the XT had achieved legendary status amongst Europe’s riders, and in 1983 Yamaha introduced the XT600Z, which became the company’s first Adventure bike to carry the Ténéré name – a Tuareg word meaning “desert” or “wilderness”.

Its large capacity 23-litre dual fuel tanks give a range of up to 500 kilometres – making it possible to cross huge areas of wilderness without worrying about running dry. To keep you informed there’s a new 5” TFT colour display with text and incoming phone alerts so you can always stay in touch wherever you go. Exclusive features include an Öhlins steering damper as well as fully adjustable long-travel front and rear suspension that’s designed to handle tough off-road terrain – and the 3-mode ABS gives confidence in all conditions. The Ténéré 700 World Raid is equipped with dual side-mounted 23-litre fuel tanks that give a potential range of up to 500 km. Located low on the chassis, this large capacity design centralises the mass for agile handling. The highest part of the tank sits much lower than on the Ténéré 700 to give a smooth transition between the front of the seat and the tank for easy rider mobility.

This design enables the rider to move backwards and forwards with minimal effort when shifting their body weight to maintain control on rough terrain, and the new ergonomics are suited to both sit down and stand up riding positions. The new seat’s 2-piece design allows for the easy removal of the rear section to enable the fitment of accessories such as a rack or luggage, and the dual material construction is designed to offer a firm but comfortable ride.

The 5” colour TFT display offers you three different screen displays – from a contemporary digital design to a more traditional analogue look and there’s also a roadbook style screen with countdown tripmeters. The bike’s CCU communicates with the MyRide app so that text messages and incoming call alerts are displayed on the screen, keeping you connected at all times.

3-mode switchable ABS gives you the option to decide exactly how you want your bike to behave on different surfaces. Mode 1 is fully on, with ABS working on both wheels – a legal requirement on public roads. Mode 2 is front wheel on rear wheel off, giving added confidence on loose gravel tracks and Mode 3 is fully off, giving you ultimate controllability when riding in the dirt.

For predictable off-road handling and easy steering the Ténéré 700 World Raid is fitted with 43mm KYB front forks with extended 230mm travel that offers full adjustability for spring preload, as well as compression and rebound damping – enabling you to set them up to match different loads, terrain and speeds. A dark bronze coloured Kashima coating on the outer tubes gives reduced stiction for smoother action, and also offers improved durability and corrosion resistance.

Mounted close behind the upper triple clamp, the compact and lightweight Öhlins steering damper provides added chassis controllability – particularly in challenging off road terrain. Its 18 different damping settings allow you to select your preferred level of feel and feedback.

The rear suspension system uses a redesigned linkage as well as a new rear shock equipped with a piggyback reservoir and an aluminium body that ensures consistent damping. A larger bump stop is used to handle rough terrain, and the World Raid’s new shock gives 220mm rear wheel travel, 20mm more that the Ténéré 700.

When you’ve experienced the EU5 CP2 2-cylinder 689cc engine with its 270° crank you’ll understand why it’s one if Yamaha’s most successful units. There’s strong linear torque throughout making it an effective and controllable performer off road and its excellent fuel economy together with compact dimensions and a low weight make it the ideal adventure powerplant.

When the first Dakar Rally took place back in 1979 it gave the Yamaha XT a chance to prove itself in the world’s toughest race. XT riders won this legendary event in ’79 and ’80, and inspired the development of the original Ténéré in 1983 – Yamaha’s iconic adventure bike that changed the world of motorcycling.

Featuring a modern translation of the legendary and striking white and red combination that was used for early Ténéré models racing the Dakar. Based on these early Dakar colours the very first production XT600 Ténéré of 1983 also proudly featured this colour combination: White-red contrast, gold rims and speedblock design (also inspired by Dakar heritage). Details in finishing such as the black handlebars complement the overall design.

The dedicated one-piece Rally seat offers a slightly higher and straighter riding position for easier body movement and more comfort for those long expeditions. At 895mm, the Rally seat is 20mm higher than the standard seat. Dual material finish and white printed YAMAHA logo give enhanced Rally image.

Sporty and lightweight slip-on muffler by Akrapovič combines performance with rally looks and a beautiful throaty-rich sound, without being loud. Fully street legal, includes carbon heat shield and silencer clamp and non-removable Db killer.

Heavy duty 4mm thick aluminium skid plate, offering extra protection for engine and frame during challenging off-road trips. Convenient toolbox can be added optionally using the mounting points on this skid plate.
