Staying true to the rally heritage, Ténéré 700 World Raid factory riders Pol Tarrés and Alessandro Botturi are showing what can be done with this incredible machine. Using GYTR components, the team bikes are serious contenders in the world’s most extreme rally events, with Pol taking 3rd overall at the Morocco Desert Challenge, the first rally of the 2023 season.

Since its introduction the Ténéré 700 has become Yamaha’s best-selling Adventure bike. Its acclaimed high-torque 690cc CP2 engine produces the most exhilarating riding feeling at all speeds and the slim body and rugged chassis give you genuine all-terrain ability. Ténéré 700 World Rally

In 1983 Yamaha’s first ever Ténéré model changed everything. With its big tank and rugged go-anywhere versatility, this best-selling motorcycle opened up an exciting new age of Adventure riding. 40 years later the exclusive long-distance Ténéré 700 World Rally pays tribute to Yamaha’s winning Dakar bikes and gives you the freedom to go wherever you want to go.

Inspired by the machines that took six Dakar victories in the hands of legendary French rider Stéphane Peterhansel, the Ténéré 700 World Rally features exclusive factory racing colours and its high specification includes a lightweight Akrapovič slip-on muffler, as well as special long-travel forks, wheels and flat rally seat finished in black.

This premium adventure bike is the most sophisticated model in the Yamaha Adventure range. With its 23-litre dual fuel tanks and its famous big-torque 690cc CP2 engine, as well as best-in-class KYB suspension and connected TFT meter, the Ténéré 700 World Rally is ready for any adventure.

Heritage Yamaha Rally Racing colours

To celebrate 40 years since the very first Ténéré opened up a new world of adventure for every rider, the World Rally features a historic Yamaha racing colour scheme inspired by Stéphane Peterhansel’s factory race bikes. With silver speedblocks and a pink fluo pinstripe on a solid blue base, the Ténéré 700 World Rally pays homage to Yamaha’s multiple victories in the world’s toughest race. The front mudguard is also painted blue to match the body and for added exclusivity the fork outer tubes, seat and wheel rims are finished in black.

Lightweight Akrapovič slip-on muffler

This premium adventure bike has been constructed to a very high specification and features top of the range components throughout. With its deep and evocative exhaust note, the slip-on Akrapovič muffler accentuates the very special character of the 270-degree crank CP2 engine and highlights this exclusive machine’s best-in-class equipment.

23-litre dual side-mounted fuel tanks

The dual side-mounted 23-litre fuel tanks are located low on the chassis, centralising the mass for agile handling. The top of the tanks sits much lower than on the Ténéré 700 to give easy rider mobility.

Flat rally inspired 2-piece seat

The seat’s 2-piece design allows for the easy removal of the rear section to enable the fitment of accessories such as a rack or luggage. The dual black-grey material construction is designed to offer a firm but comfortable ride. Its flat profile enables you to move backwards and forwards with minimal effort when shifting your body weight to maintain control on rough terrain and the Ténéré 700 World Rally’s ergonomics are suited to both sit down and stand-up riding positions.

5-inch colour TFT with smartphone connectivity

The 5-inch colour TFT display offers you three different screen displays from a contemporary digital design to a more traditional analogue look and there’s also a roadbook style screen with trip meters. The bike’s CCU communicates with the MyRide app so that text messages and incoming call alerts are displayed on the screen, keeping you connected at all times.

3-mode switchable ABS

3-mode switchable ABS gives you the option to decide exactly how you want your bike to behave on different surfaces. Mode 1 is fully on, with ABS working on both wheels, a legal requirement on public roads. Mode 2 is front wheel on and rear wheel off, giving added confidence on loose gravel tracks. Mode 3 is fully off, giving you ultimate controllability when riding in the dirt.

For predictable off-road handling and easy steering, the Ténéré 700 World Rally features 43mm KYB front forks offering full adjustability for spring preload, as well as compression and rebound damping enabling you to set them up to match different loads, terrain and speeds. The black anodisation of the outer tubes gives a distinct look and with 230mm of front wheel travel, this quality front suspension is built to handle extreme off-road rides.

Öhlins adjustable steering damper

Mounted close behind the upper triple clamp, the compact and lightweight Öhlins steering damper provides added chassis controllability particularly in challenging off road terrain. Its 18 different damping settings allow you to select your preferred level of feel and feedback.

The Ténéré 700 World Raid is equipped with dual side-mounted 23-litre fuel tanks that give a potential range of up to 500 km. Located low on the chassis, this large capacity design centralises the mass for agile handling. The highest part of the tank sits much lower than on the Ténéré 700 to give a smooth transition between the front of the seat and the tank for easy rider mobility.

Aluminium piggyback rear shock, long 220mm travel

The rear suspension system uses a redesigned linkage as well as a rear shock equipped with a piggyback reservoir and an aluminium body that ensures consistent damping. A large bump stop is used to handle rough terrain, and the World Raid’s shock gives 220mm rear wheel travel, 20mm more that the Ténéré 700.

High-torque EU5 CP2 engine

When you’ve experienced the EU5 CP2 2-cylinder 690cc engine with its 270° crank you’ll understand why it’s one of Yamaha’s most successful units. There’s strong linear torque throughout making it an effective and controllable performer off-road and its excellent fuel economy together with compact dimensions and a low weight make it the ideal adventure powerplant.

When the first Dakar Rally took place back in 1979 it gave the Yamaha XT a chance to prove itself in the world’s toughest race. XT riders won this legendary event in ’79 and ’80 and inspired the development of the original Ténéré in 1983, Yamaha’s iconic adventure bike that changed the world of motorcycling.

40 years on, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is capturing the imagination of a new generation of riders who want to discover what’s over the next horizon. For 2023 the exclusive Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Edition comes with heritage rally colours, 3-mode switchable ABS and a refreshed TFT meter with smartphone connectivity.

Featuring white and red racing livery, speedblock graphics and gold rims, the Ténéré 700 Rally Edition pays tribute to the factory bikes raced in Dakar. With its premium components and pure Ténéré DNA, this is Yamaha’s ultimate heritage adventure bike.

Heritage White colours

Featuring a modern translation of the legendary and striking white and red combination that was used for early Ténéré models racing the Dakar. Based on these early Dakar colours the very first production XT600 Ténéré of 1983 also proudly featured this colour combination: White-red contrast, gold rims and speedblock design (also inspired by Dakar heritage). Details in finishing such as the black handlebars complement the overall design.

Dedicated Rally seat

The dedicated one-piece Rally seat offers a slightly higher and straighter riding position for easier body movement and more comfort for those long expeditions. At 895mm, the Rally seat is 20mm higher than the standard seat. Dual material finish and white printed YAMAHA logo give enhanced Rally image.

Akrapovič slip-on muffler

Sporty and lightweight slip-on muffler by Akrapovič combines performance with rally looks and a beautiful throaty-rich sound, without being loud. Fully street legal, includes carbon heat shield and silencer clamp and non-removable Db killer.

The heavy duty 4mm thick skid plate offers extra protection for the engine and frame. A convenient toolbox can be optionally added using the mounting points on this skid plate. Compact, lightweight and finished with a special coating for durability, the radiator cover protects against small stones and twigs. For complete protection, the bike also comes with a stylish laser cut chain guard.

World Raid Team Rewrite the Record Books at the Africa Eco Race

The Yamaha Ténéré World Raid Team arrived at the end of the Africa Eco Race with riders Pol Tarrés and Alessandro Botturi finishing in 5th and 24th, respectively. They also achieved the feat of becoming the first twin-cylinder adventure bike to complete the entire rally, plus recorded a 1-2 in the +700 class.

The epic Africa Eco Race has involved 12 stages, covering over 6000 km from the start in Monaco, all the way down the West Coast of Africa, through Morocco, Mauritania and then finishes in Senegal. Stirring the memories of Cyril Neveu’s victory for Yamaha in the maiden Paris-Dakar rally in 1979, Tarrés and Botturi brought their Ténéré 700 World Raid bikes back to their spiritual Dakar home in the Africa Eco Race in an emotional moment for both the riders and team.

Tarrés has been flying through the African desert all rally, showing incredible speed and consistency, only finishing outside of the top 7 once, securing his maiden rally podium on Stage 9 and besting everything the rally could throw at him. Despite temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius, extreme humidity, the cancelled Stage 6 and the infamous dunes of Mauritania, nothing could stop his charge. The 29-year-old duelled with the 450cc bikes on several stages and came out on top, which shows just how capable the combination of the Spaniard and his GYTR-kitted Ténéré 700 World Raid bike is.

After reaching the finish line at Lac Rose, in just his second rally, Tarrés secured 5th in the general classification with a combined time of 50 hours, 16 minutes and 42 seconds. In doing so, he became the first person to complete the Africa Eco Race on a twincylinder adventure bike by winning the +700 class in some style, with his teammate Botturi making it a 1-2 for the Ténéré World Raid Team. In fact, Yamaha completed a lockout of the podium with Malles Moto rider Wolfang Piccardo on his standard Ténéré 700 finishing 3rd in class.

Botturi, who won the team’s first race in April, the Tunisia Desert Challenge, and was chasing a hat-trick of victories at the Africa Eco Race, experienced contrasting fortunes during the rally. The Italian showed his class by storming to victory on Stage 2 but then experienced a technical issue on the third stage that meant he lost time.

He bounced back with a podium on Stage 4 and was fighting his way back up the general classification before a broken chain on Stage 8 saw him stuck overnight in the searing heat of the dunes in Akjout, awaiting the rescue truck. Over 24 hours later, and having been forced to miss Stage 9, the 47-year-old returned to the bivouac exhausted and dehydrated from the experience, but after his team worked through the night to strip and rebuild the bike, “Bottu” showed his legendary determination to take to the start of Stage 10 and finish the rally.

His overall classification of 24th with a penalty-effected time of 96 hours, 55 minutes and 21 seconds was not representative of his pace, but the Italian and his team’s inspiring never-give-up attitude ensured he joined Tarrés on the +700-class podium. Plus, achieve the aim of both riders reaching the end of the rally on their Ténéré 700 World Raid GYTRkitted bikes.
