50 YEARS OF YAMAHA SNOWMOBILES
1968 SL350 1976 SRX440
Yamaha’s original entry into the market. The SL350 was a limited build ‘pilot run’ that announced Yamaha’s entry into Snowmobile manufacturing. The next year, the SL351 was released, the first to use autolube direct injection for optimal fuel/oil mixture ratio, laying the basis for a reputation built on reliability and innovation.
The SRX showcased Yamaha engine prowess with a lightweight liquid-cooled twin cylinder, proven on the race track in a true underdog fashion taking on much larger displacement engines with authority.
1982
BRAVO 250
The Bravo 250 was developed to deliver Yamaha quality at a budget price point. It featured a small single-cylinder engine with a one-piece jug and head. Available with three different track lengths, the Bravo persevered to be Yamaha’s longest running model and an over-achiever in every aspect.
The Enticer 340 offered iconic reliability in a lightweight chassis. The durable fan-cooled engine delivered smooth power in a wellbalanced chassis and soon became the class leader. As testimony, there are still many Enticer’s in service today.
1978 ENTICER 340 1984 PHAZER
1992 VMAX4
The Vmax®4 marked Yamaha’s entry in the muscle sled category of the 90’s. Not content to build another ‘me too’ triple, Yamaha set out to build a reliable motor using two twin-cylinder engines with a conjoined crank shaft. This would eliminate the torsional vibration and distortion inherent in a 4-cylinder 2-stroke. A new all aluminum chassis featured wide TSS with futuristic styling that shocked the Snowmobile industry.
The Phazer was a complete departure from traditional snowmobiles at the time. Its 488cc engine delivered gobs of torque at low RPM. This, combined with its lightweight chassis and unique ‘tipped out’ strut front suspension gave it a unique handling character. It soon became the world’s best-selling Snowmobile, an honor it still holds today.
Last year, Yamaha shocked the industry with the release of the Sidewinder®, one of the most powerful and dominant snowmobiles the industry has ever seen. So what’s next? Not content to rest on our big HP laurels, 2018 sees the release of the all-new Snoscoot™. The Snoscoot is opening up the market from its roots, sure to bring big smiles to the faces of a new generation of snowmobilers. Sidewinder and Snoscoot are the latest in a long line of industry shaking releases from Yamaha over the course of our fifty years in the snowmobile industry. Fifty years of culture and tradition in the past, fifty more years of innovation, performance and excitement in the future. The time to get on board is now.
1997 VMAX700SX 2000 SRX700
The 1997 model year saw Yamaha release 14 new models in an all-new trailing arm chassis. The crown jewel of the new Pro Action line-up was the lightweight triple cylinder engine featured in the SX700. This quick revving power plant was soon adopted into many models to become the mainstay of Yamaha’s fleet.
2011APEX
Yamaha made the decision to abandon 2-stroke in favour of more efficient 4-stroke technology in the spring of 2001. The RX-1 changed the face of snowmobiling with the entry of the first performance sport 4-stroke powered sled. The high-tech 4-cylinder engine was largely based on Yamaha motorcycle road racing technologies and featured several new features with its reverse engine mounting and rear exiting exhaust.
Yamaha’s Apex® had been undergoing constant refinement since its launch in 2006, but in 2011 it received Electric Power Steering and EXUP® Technology. EPS was another industry first and further cemented the Apex’s status as a dominant high horsepower trail snowmobile.
The SRX700 was Yamaha’s answer to the call for a triple/triple. Not content to simply pipe the existing 3-cylinder, Yamaha designed an all-new engine with electronic power valves and 33mm flat slide carburetors. A new digital ignition was incorporated and the end result was one of the smoothest pulling 2-strokes ever built.
2003 RX-1 2014 SRVIPER
The SRViper® floored the industry upon its release for the 2014 model year. What was originally thought as inconceivable actually worked into a very nice agreement between Yamaha and one of their major competitors by marrying the high performing and reliable Genesis® triple with a race-proven chassis.
2018 SNOSCOOT
2017SIDEWINDER
Yamaha is known as an engine company, and when the Sidewinder was released across nearly all riding categories in 2017, it galvanized Yamaha’s reputation for providing innovative engines with unparalleled performance and durability. The Sidewinder, with Genesis 998 Turbo engine and triple throttle body intake, has set a new standard in Turbo development for all others to aspire to.
After releasing the dominating Sidewinder the year before, Yamaha set its focus on resurrecting the growth of the sport with the launch of the all-new Snoscoot. Yamaha recognized the high demand and resale value of the previous incarnation of the Snoscoot and felt the time was right to release an affordable, easy-to-ride and fun entry-level snowmobile. Snoscoot is targeted at new, inexperienced – and maybe a few heavily experienced – riders. Take one ride and you will see, the Snoscoot, is a keeper.

YAMAHA REACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM (YRSS™)
This exclusive Yamaha technology connects the two front shock absorber bodies hydraulically. Oil flows between the shocks through a control unit that affects damping and volume transfer based on the movement and forces generated at each ski. In short, pressure and force on the front end is spread more evenly throughout the shock system for flatter handling and an overall improvement in ride quality.
YAMAHA PERFORMANCE DAMPER
Exclusive Yamaha technology, the Performance Damper is designed to improve overall chassis performance by reducing unwanted chassis vibration and distortion. Mounted directly to the chassis at the front and rear of the machine, the Performance Damper harnesses unwanted chassis energy resulting in improved control and comfort with increased high-speed stability and better tracking through rutted and chatter bump filled corners.
50 th ANNIVERSARY STYLING
The brilliant red and white paint scheme is accented by the slick black ‘eye liner’ wind deflector and hi-impact graphics. This limited model is sure to become a collector’s item for longtime Yamaha fans.

Remember your first pull on the throttle? The excitement, the exhilaration, the independence. Yamaha has expanded its youth category this year with the all-new Snoscoot, the perfect way to get started in snowmobiling. The overall ergonomics of Snoscoot are slimmed and manageable, allowing room for growing riders while giving smaller rider’s the confidence they need to enjoy a day of snowmobiling with the 2.2-gallon / 8.2-litre gas tank.
