The spaces and passageway in the design capture the daylight and shadows through the day at different time with various sun angles result distinct light conditions of the space. The design focused on creating spaces which required dynamic movement while creating a variety of narratives as the participant journey from the dark lower level to the light.

The popularity of the Gas Works Park in different groups The Stone Arches are the remain of past industrial complex, and these "leftovers" interestingly became a set of public art since its perspective form that communicated with visitors. People enjoy playing, drawing or photographing on this spot.

The south side of The Kite Hill provides a interactive area for visitors to enjoy the panoramic view of downtown, the surrounding residential areas and the activities of Lake Union in one instant combines so much of the essence of Seattle.

With a span of 28 feet and a weight near seven tons, the specifics of The Sundial are as monumental as the park itself. More than that, the Sundial acts as an innovative public art on the top of Kite Hill that contributes to the interaction between visitors and the park.

Outline of the City Bingjing Yang/ Gundula Proksch/Doug Smith/ Spring 2014/ARCH211

The design of the structure is main focus on the interactivity and vista of the Gas Works Park. The location of Gas Works Park is considerably important and unique since it is located in the center of city of Seattle, which is surrounded by five major parts of Sveattle (Queen Ann, Capitol Hill, Ballard, University district, downtown Seattle). With the design, Gas Works Park is not only act a park, but also has the potential to become a turiststation for the visitor who is interested in knowing more about the city of Seattle. While functioned as a turist site and a park, the structure can also provide the view of the wide vista from downtown Seattle and monument (majestic) aspect of Gas Works Park from a side angle, the artificial beach that embed in the design is for people to enjoy the sunlight. The Deck is for small boat or canoe to stop by so the people on the boat or canoe can also participate in the interactivity.
