Joe Hyrkin Bio, September, 2012 Joe has more than 20 years of experience in start up and growth technology leadership from early stage through to IPO. He has been the CEO, led sales, BD and Product for some of the leading and most innovative companies in Silicon Valley, backed by the likes of Benchmark, Redpoint, Trinity, Floodgate, True, Baseline, MDV, DAG, among others. Joe served as CEO of Wordnik, a leading automated meaning discovery engine and discovery app. While at Wordnik, Joe led the creation and execution of a content discovery and recommendation product plan and strategy and raised over $11.5 million in 2 rounds of funding for from top tier VCs, including MDV, Floodgate, Baseline among others. He also reorganized company, recruiting top tier back-end, front-end and NLP engineering, product, design/UI, BD, and marketing talent and management from some of the best companies across Silicon Valley. The innovations pioneered by Wordnik led to Hyrkin being quoted and interviewed extensively in such publications as Inc., AllThingsD, AdWeek, The New York Times, Business Insider, Venture Beat, Xconomy Prior to Wordnik, Joe served as interim CEO of SingleFeed, a profitable leading ecommerce feed optimization service with over 400 paying e-tailers as clients. SingleFeed was funded by True Ventures, who asked Joe to step in as CEO to help oversee the company. This resulted in a successful sale of the company to Ali Baba. In 2010, Joe completed a role as an Entrepreneur in Residence with Trinity Ventures. While at Trinity, Joe spent six months focused on next generation social commerce, community, crowdsourcing and social media and evaluated over 150 companies in the space, ultimately acting as an advisor to a number of them. Prior to joining Trinity as an EIR, Joe was the Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Gaia Interactive. While there, Joe oversaw all revenue including virtual goods, advertising/sponsorship and merchandize as well as all Business Development efforts including fund raising, strategic partnerships, content acquisition and distribution. He has pioneered business models that have created some of the best brand and consumer engagement on the web. Prior to Gaia Online, Joe headed up the business side of Multimedia Search at Yahoo!, where he also served as head of Business Development and Sales for Flickr. Before his time at Yahoo, Joe served as Vice President of Strategic Accounts and Asia Pacific Operations at publicly listed company, Virage Inc, a provider of video search and publishing services and software. While at Virage, Joe and his team pioneered some of the first business relationships in the broadband entertainment space, working with some of the world's leading media companies. Prior to Virage, he headed sales for Sina.com, the top Chinese language web portal, and before that Joe ran The Economist Group's business in China for 4.5 years establishing the company's presence in the country and overseeing offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Joe has served on the Board Of Directos of Viximo, Inc., prior to its acquisition by TapJoy and serves on the advisory boards of Bunndle, Inc., RadiumOne, Inc., TaskRabbit, Singly, Inc. and Zoodles Inc, prior to its acquisition by HTC.
