Washington University Medical Center Vision In the fall of 2010, the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis engaged Rafael Viùoly Architects PC for the conceptual planning of the Center for Biological Imaging (CBI) and Pre-Clinical Laboratories (PCL), and the master planning of the research component of the medical school. The master plan will represent a 30 to 50 year vision for research facilities on the Washington University Medical Center campus. Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology and the New Center for Biological Imaging The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology is the clinical radiology department at the Washington University School of Medicine, and is considered to be among the very best in the world. It has one of the most outstanding basic imaging science programs in the United States. Currently, the Institute is ranked first among radiology departments in the United States in total research funding received from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and in 2007, the department garnered 9% of all NIH funding awarded to radiology departments in the United States. The CBI will be a new extension of the Mallinckrodt Institute on campus. The building will showcase Washington University School of Medicine’s achievements in imaging and biomedical research as well as display a high level of sustainability, and provide spaces and adjacencies that foster collaboration and interaction.
