Cosmic Creations| S/S 14| Reflection
Reflection: By completing this project I learned a lot about the thought process of design. When I came into this class, my design process focused solely on the end result: how can I produce something pretty. I know now, the extensive and involved steps that make up good design. We began by looking at trends for our targeted consumers. After thoroughly researching these trends and sub trends we began to add our own unique touches to them. After deciding this direction there was still lots of research to be done. Because this was a print collection, our main focus was on specific objects that could be turned into an interesting print. My personal trend dealt with space. I began by first starting with the knowledge I already know about space. I chose images of objects that I thought of when I imagined space. I then went into more research about each of these objects. For example, I researched different components to a space shuttle, or what astronauts eat when they are in space. This object research, along with trend research lead me to my final project. The most important thing I will take away with this process is learning the design process.
Cosmic Creations| S/S 14| Market Research
Market Research: The fun and quirky prints that are featured in this collection crave a unique company to call there home. Topshop would be the shinning star to this print collection. Topshop offers customers idiosyncratic clothing that is of exceptional quality. Customers can rely on Topshop to constantly surprise them with clothes that are trendy but also introduce a new side of these trends. This print collection follows current trends but is also eccentric and interesting to view.
Cosmic Creations| S/S 14| Target Market
Target Market: Aster has always been a unique girl. At the age of 20, she is still trying to find herself and her place in life. She always seems to find herself in a bit of trouble with everyone from teachers to authorities. She finds herself most nights climbing out her window and onto the roof where she lays awake for hours wondering what more there is to life. It is here, on the roof, looking at the stars where she feels safe and at home. As the bugs swirl around her head she notices how small they are. She knows that she is but a speck of dust in the vastness of everything. She is comforted by the thought. No matter what she does, really no one will ever know.
Cosmic Creations| S/S 14| Trend Research
Creed: As we navigate through the noise of the digital age, we seek a level of clarity, where silence will transcend the noise. We move from augmented realities to augmented spirituality, where we crave contemplative spaces that make us feel, not think.
Cosmic Creations| S/S 14| Trend Research
New Frontiers: Curiosity and wonder are driving people to discover a hidden world, above and beyond planet Earth. With the discovery of Kepler-22b, we are considering what life would be like if we were to inhabit an unfamiliar world 600 light years away. Intense blues and burning reds reflect these galactic discoveries with softened touches of coral and pale mauve.
Altra Terra With talks of life on other planets, designers are looking towards the possibility of this. Not only have other planets been found that could potentially support life but there has also been developments on building stations on the moon. As we learn more about the universe our fashion is following. Whether unearthly prints or suitcases designed for space-travel, this planet hopping trend is closer than some may think.
